Ok thanks, so a little bit like glass?

if we are spending 500 euro on a device, what we are going to lose in spending 10-15 more? prevention is better.always.
BTW, I have ordered a screen protector along with my HD2 preorder

For that kind of dough they should have included one, they do with most all their other lines currently.

Feels solid like glass. The only bad thing about it, its a fingerprint magnet, and reflects light a lot.

Nothing is scratch proof, except for the hardest material (= very expensive ). One tiny sand particle can mess up an entire iphone screen within seconds.
Edit: I should add that of course a glass screen would be "less prone" to scratches in general than some form of polymer. So if you do not want to worry about scratching the screen, get a screen protector. If not, you'll probably be fine, but it's not guaranteed.

according to a review, the screen is made of special material, put screen protector will slow down the response. but it is still a good idea to protect it.

The term "special material" has a broad meaning. But yes, a screenprotector can interfere with the response, though I'm sure a screenprotector of a special material can be made as well, so it will have an insignificant influence on the response of the screen (see what I did there? ).

I'm surprised no one has pointed out the capacitive screen responds only to fingers.....well maybe a special stylus, but I think you'll agree most of us will be using our fingers......
So in that event, what's the purpose of a screen protector?

True, your finger won't scratch the screen, however when you have your phone in your pocket and say with some coins or keys or in your bag a screen protector will be very handy to protect your expensive gadget.

uh - yeah
I'm a girl and I do carry a small purse. I think I will have to investigate screen protectors. Don't want one that will interrupt the touch capabilities but I'm sure someone makes them. Better to be safe than sorry. I keep my phones for a couple of years. Not much worse than a scratched screen.

I will definitely put one on, not because I'm worried about the glass being scratched but I want an anti-glare protector which should help with fingerprints, smudges, glare and help a teeny weeny bit with sunlight legibility.

This may be so for resistive screens, but for the HD2 which uses a capacitive screen I think a screen protector would make no difference.
And about a response, either its there or its not I don't think it would be slowed down lol.
I am considering purchasing a 'BodyGuardz' screen protector which is meant to be really good. Maybe anyone else who is going to by a screen protector should take a look. Its basically a cheaper version of InvisibleShield

I would definitely put on a screen protector the moment I unbox it.
Not just the screen protector, but also a case (I prefer a silicon soft case) for the side and back of the phone.

It does have a glass screen, and it's VERY resistant, so lots of people haven't bothered with screen protectors.
There are, however, a small number of people that have reported scratches, so yeah, it can happen.
Get a screen protector if you're even slightly concerned. A few quid now could save a lot of upset later.
the HD2 has a glass screen.
there are several threads about that here en the general section or in the accessories section.
the screen is much more scratch resistant then the other touch screens but it does scratch with hard things like keys or so in a pocket. that is why a lot of people still use screen protectors. also HTC has one on the list.

Nothing is 100% scratch proof. If you keep it in your pocket without a pouch I'd definitely get a screen protector. Already got a small scratch on mine even though I use a pouch all the time. Ordered an InvisibleShield today.

I keep mine in a case, but I have no screen protector, so far, no scratches, the screen is glass and is very scratch resistant although I still would not put my HD2 fully unprotected in the same pocket as my keys.

I did this with a bottle top one night when I was drunk. The kind that comes on beer, with a ridged and quite sharp and nasty edge. I put as much effort into it as I could, and got nothing.
I would like to add that I only did this on a part of the glass that is not over the display, so even if I gouged a chunk out, it wouldn't have spoiled my favourite part of the screen.
Try it yourself when you get one. Get a bottle of vodka and a knife. Let us know how you get on

General Screen durability (W/O) screen protector

just curious becuase I've had a screen protector on my N1 since second 1 of having the thing how durable the screen is.
some phones scratch to slight finger usage and others are indistructable it seems, I'm wanting to take my screen protector off my phone because its over sensitive but do not want to risk scratching it like crazy all the time ( even micro scratchs.
Or if I have missed it searching is there a topic on this already?

This has been cover already.
The screen is made from Gorilla glass and is quite durable.
Check youtube for videos.
I personally have taken keys/razor blades to the screen and there are no discernable scratches.
I've also whacked it against metal stuff and the screen holds up pretty well.

Also, I don't have any lawyers.
I agree with melter that a screen protector isn't necessary, per se. However, a screen protector does prevent fingerprints and smudges, which is really the only reason I use one.
thanks for the info beers

Really man? What screen protector are you using? With no screen protector, my screen was an oil magnet. With a PhantomSkinz, it's much better. I imagine that with a very clear protector, it will still attract smudges, but with something like PS, invisibleSHIELD, Clear Protector, etc., it will be less prone to smudges.

Scratched Screen!

Somehow i have managed to get a scratch of prob 8mm tall x 1mm wide x 1mm
deep. is the front protected by something or is that the screen?
its hasnt gone all the way through what ever it is. but i can tell its scratched due to
the light when moving the phone about.
Anyway to fix this ie a new front?
screen works as normal.
Cheers Rob.
why would you want to fix? it seems like a minuscule scratch.
Its near the middle of the screen. There must have been some grit on it when i put it in the
pouch :?

I doubt it. It's hardened glass. It must have been something heavy or very sharp. The only fix i know of is a new glass cover or may be a very good screen protector
My N1 got a bunch of hairline scratches from my the old ladies earring, I put a name brand name screen protector on it and they're not visible anymore. So that is an option for you if it really bothers you that much, my N1's scratches drove me nuts because they were right at the top.
I have a scratch on my screen too...It was bothering me at first, but quickly forgot about it.

I agree and would try a screen protector. I found a Fellowes generic protector was best at hiding a big scratch on an old iPAQ I have. The screen on that is quite different but I don't see why it wouldn't work on the HD2.
Cheers people, I think I have a few protectors at work. only cheap ones. Will let you know if this helps.

I, too, have a nice scratch in the screen. Can't remember what happened, or what would have caused it. When I realized it was there I immediately shopped for screen protectors, and used member reccomendations from XDA forums. I purchased a recommended protector based on those recommendations and some further research elsewhere online. My results? DO NOT purchase the HD2 product from Gadget Shieldz dot com. It will somehow magnify the resolution refresh and create a rainbow pattern on the nice, hi-rez screen. Aarrgh! Does someone have a better product suggestion??

I'm pretty keen on Skinomi protectors, they have a Lifetime Warranty.
http://www.skinomi.com/
The only thing is that the HD2 protector doesn't protect the bottom part below the buttons. Wasn't an issue for me but if you want all over protection go with BestSkinsEver.
Thanks for the suggestion, IC. Both products look the same as others, but if the pattern isn't there (and sensitivity isn't compromised) I will be a happy camper. I'll update on this forum with the results!
anyone tried the ZAGG Invisible Shield? It looks nice on the ads but i'd like to listen from a owner...
I have used the Zagg shield for about 3 months then happily removed it from my HD2, After a while the protector started to get an 'orange peel' effect to it and as a whole it was very reflective. I also didnt like the tactile feel to it, it felt quite rubbery and so when draging your finger across the screen sometimes it would feel choppy in a sense.
I am now using the wrapsol HD2 protector (am currently writing a full review for it so check back soon) but just quickly i love it and alreayd am more than happy with it i dont even know it is on the phone it feels like glass to the touch.

Screen polishing on X10 ?

Ok, does this phone have screen protector that is glued on the display or it is just a display with nothing on it ? I have few little scratches so I was wondering can I polish it somehow ?
Tnx
The phone comes with a screen protector already applied. Look at the edges of the screen, you'll be able to see the difference between the screen itself and the protector.
Hi guys, been reading for the past few months here...I am getting this phone in about 1 or 2 weeks, and I read it has a scratch resistant screen...but this thread states that it actually is a screen protector. Can someone explain a bit more about this?
I also have some scratches on the protector. They can be polished out temporarely and completely with LCD-Liquid but next day they are visible again.
As the protector fits very well:
Anyone got an Idea how to polish away fine scratches permanently from protectors ?

Mineral glass. Not quite crystal. But tougher than normal glass. Took mine off too. It definitely makes the screen a little more responsive. I personally recommend removing it, but I'm not going to be responsible for yourscratches!

No, I didn't, thx for the Info.
If it's that in a Shop I'd get it and give it a try. The protector fits so exactly on the glass that I would keem it as long as possible.
Tnx a lot guys, now I am much more happier knowing that it is only protector scratch, I can see it on the edges. Is there any screen protectors that good on ebay so I can replace this one ? I have bought some but they are not perfect size like this original one.

One thing you can try is going around the edges with a razorblade. I haven't done it on the X10 but I've done it on oither phones where it's worked well.

Scratches

Ok, we all have a few scratches on our phones display, some worse than others, but wouldn't it be nice to have a display totally resistant to them. A diamond coating or something.
I know there are screen protectors, but who uses them.

They are luxury phones costing more than 1.5K USD... they make them in precious metals, and some models even come with diamonds. I rather buy new digitizers lol.
Synthetic sapphire would be the best choice, but it's not exactly cheap to manufacture. The iPhone 4 and Dell Streak are probably the closest we have right now to nearly scratch-proof screens.
What's wrong with screen protector?
I use one for my X10.
Cant speak about the iphones screen as I wouldnt touch an Apple product to save my life, but alot of newer phones have Corning's Gorilla Glass. That stuff is pretty bulletproof. Google it to find a list of devices that use it.
I've got two screen protectors on, the one that came with it and stuck on another not realising it already came with one.

Not to flame you or anything, but what is your point of the statement? are you trying to look for help on choosing a screen protector? cuz people do use them
I removed the screen protector that came with the phone and the screen looks freakin' gorgeous without it, but at the same time, very vulnerable. I've bought mirror screen protectors from ebay; they're supersexy but at the same time superglossy and does not help at all when i'm looking at my phone in broad daylight. I've heard about ZAGG's screen protectors and I might try them out once my mirror screen protector wears off but they're quite pricey though Check out endagdet's post on torturing Dell Streak's screen too...it was very painful to watch but the outcome was great: http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/29/dell-streaks-gorilla-glass-screen-torture-tested-for-your-amus/
@junkk29: do you know where I can find a screen protector that has a rough feel to it? Made ideal for swyping texts. I think they are called anti-glare but the ones I bought were not anti glare (off of ebay).

To be honest, I have no clue besides the one that came with the X10. I use Swype on my X10 as well and the screen mirror screen protector does not help at all. It's nice but if your finger is moist or wet it can be a little sticky Try searching on the X10 accessories forum, you might find something there. Good luck

Yes it does and I guarantee you a 100% cuz I pulled it out myself. It's hard to notice it but if you look close enough (maybe with a magnifying glass lol) you'll see it around the corner. I saw pictures of it in this forums but i'm too lazy to look it up again. It's not easy to remove it and literally took me half an hour to get the corners out. Once you get the corners out you can just peel it off, it's quite tough but it doesn't leave any residue. If you're gonna get a screen protector i suggest you remove it too cuz i've heard from the seller that it messes with the touch screen responsiveness.
Picked up some low glare screen protectors on eBay and it's been a month without a single scratch! They are pretty tough, plus they resist fingerprints as well I am not sure I need to buy the 3 pack now... LOL!
I wish I knew who actually made them Cuz they are brilliant!
BTW, the original one is also on. It does not make a difference in responsiveness, in fact due to the surface of these protectors, it's actually even smoother to scroll or swype across the screen.
