I'm sorry flipz, but it already married ME
Its looking like they have some pretty sweet new stuff in there software-wise.
Oh yeah. It looks SWEEEEEEEEEEET.
I wonder how well Google Earth will run on the Hero?
I'm curious what else from the "family of devices" they have in store... A tablet would be great to piss in Apple's Cheerio bowl.
Google Phone store CDMA Nexus One on the way! (via Verizon, sadly)
"2.1 should be released 'within a couple of days.' " (There's no context on that quote. For which devices?)
Some more interesting bits...
Peter (HTC): HTC will be upgrading 2.1 on select existing models (but he didn’t say which).
Q: “Will Google do anything to ensure future upgrades of Android on handsets?”
Andy (Google): “Well, my computer from 4 years ago can’t really run Vista. Usually hardware and software work in lockstep. … I can speak to intentions, and based on the technology we’ll do our best to make sure everyone can have the latest software.”
Sanjay (Motorola): “We’ll do our best to ensure that our users can have the best version of Android their hardware can run. If you want to be completely backwards compatible, you will sacrifice innovation. You don’t want to slow down the ecosystem… you have a choice about delivering the best experience.”

Sprint to release Android 2.1 update for Hero and Moment 'over the coming weeks'

http://mobile.engadget.com/2010/03/...ndroid-2-1-update-for-hero-and-moment-over-t/
If you recall, about a month ago Sprint tweeted that it was working on delivering Android 2.1 upgrade for its HTC Hero and Samsung Moment in early Q2 this year. An optimistic guess would be April, right? Funnily enough, Techie Buzz has heard that two eager customers managed to squeeze a more precise date out of Sprint over a phone call -- end of March or even March 26th. Don't go reaching for that champagne just yet, though -- a self-proclaimed Sprint employee shared a recent internal memo on XDA-Developers forum, revealing that it's "actively working on having the Android 2.1 platform available to our Hero and Moment customers over the coming weeks," and that "more information coming in April." Oh Sprint, you do love playing with our little minds, don't you?

just because it's posted on Engadget today does not mean its recent news.
On average, Engadget can be 12 hours late from the source when it comes to news originating from ppcgeeks, sprintusers, xda, howardforums, etc. I'm not surprised some stuff leaks through their newswatchers from time to time.
We appreciate you posting this up for the people that havent seen it, but dont expect a standing ovation...

HOW do you know it? Speculations!
I am waiting for the oficiella version, (modified roms here now have too many bugs) even if it takes in the autumn
But I am impressed by chef´s which has done a great job for us to test version 2.1
there's more chance of a dual booting iPad running Android 6.4
coming out than a timely update for the hero lol. September doesn't seem so bad, my contract is up for renewal then..Sent from my Hero using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
There are already many threads to the update!
We have to wait,I think all other speculations,
because HTC seems to be unsure themselves!

No sarcasm, I have a friend who's working at a phone house who told me. That's, by the way why I don't trust the other source who's telling everybody 16th of April (and now, like magic, end of april!).
BTW: Is it that bad that newbies wouldn't get it? People are announcing wrong dates almost everyday and my indication gets flagged somehow?
This was the only official statement from HTC regarding something new for Hero, all the rest was whishfull thinking, rumours and foolish comments:
Press Release from February 16th
Availability
The new HTC Legend will be available in Europe through Vodafone and in the direct channel beginning in April. It will roll out to other parts of the world including Asia in early Q2. HTC Desire will be broadly available to customers across major European and Asian markets in early Q2. The HTC Desire will be exclusively available in Australia through Telstra. The enhanced HTC Sense experience will also be offered as a free upgrade on the HTC Hero in Europe and Asia.

So, the dates for Legend and Desire were very precise, a date for the enhanced experience on Hero was intentionally left open ...
I got this info in a sms today from my operator Ventelo:
Information from Ventelo:
HTC will shortly come up with an updated version of the operating system on some of their mobile phones. The update must be loaded directly onto the phone, and is 100Mb. Ventelo therefore recommend that users of these mobile phones updates via wireless networks and mobile networks.

Exactly! The same thing they did on the P900 to the P910. And, than there was the X1 to the X2.
I told you in April, May, June, and July. I have owned four SE flag ship devices and this is exactly what SE do. What's their motto again? Oh yeah, Make Believe!
SE make you believe that you are getting the latest device and it turns out to be miles behind the devices that come out one week later!

Wow, something different in Singapore. We still have only X10 here so the marketing strategy will be different in different countries.

Looking at the ad and translating it to English and then reading it in context it's obvious it is a marketing scheme. I don't understand why people are getting mad that a company wants to trick another group of people in to buying their product.
Edit: people getting mad would be fm1776 but I guess he/she was mad at SE before the telephone was invented
