hi there!! i have a diamond, and i was thinking in buy this new pda, the touch2... i would like to hear from you guys what do you think about tis, if it is a nice trade, or if i should keep my diamond...
i don't know this equipment very much, so i really don't have an opinion about it...
how is its performance?? the camera is better than the diamond?? don't have g sensor, right??
and what about the programs compatibility, does the almost programs running ona diamond will be able to run in this new Windows mobile 6,5??
thank you!!!
best regards!! hope to hear some neys from you.... i think you will give me a nice helo in buying/not buying this pda...

hi,
hw is good, more RAM Diamond 192MB Touch2 256MB, but worse dispaly resolution, only 240*320, but display looks good.
Dont have g-sensor and camera is worse, 3MPix but without autofocus.
Stay with Diamond or buy diamond2

a good ppc to begin with. definitely not the best but gets u what ur cash paid for! tweakable but imo not so much yet. but i bet there's people working/tweaking their mega right now & then sharing their tweaks! camera's decent enough i should say? cheers!

Agreeds, I really like my Mega, so much so that I'd say its the best phone I personally have ever owned, however it would definitley be a step down for a Diamond owner.

Dont buy it
I want to sell it and get diamond 1 or diamond 2 :'(
Camera is useless
no 3d support
dont buy it really you will regret (like I do now)

Cry me a river, excuse me while i get the worlds smallest violin...
It's a phone, get a life.

Well its a phone that costs money right ?
and excuse me if I care about my money not like you do
I know that it's a phone but with that money he could get something better

For £15 a month contract? REALLY? he could get a better phone on a package as good for 15 lousey quid a month? No!

What you could do is to buy a 2nd hand Mega and see if you like it in daily practise and after a while sell either the Mega or the Diamond.
At least you have spent less money......
A disadvantage for me at the moment would be lack of HSPL and to put a custom Rom on the Mega.......the Diamond has a wealth of Rom's available.....and many nice app's .....

@Uppy: I dont care in what way he would pay what I talk about is the value of the phone and if it worth the money or not
@Frank: nice solution he should try that

@medorpg: The two are directly linked, we are talking about monetary expense here, you say the phone is not worth the money and I am challenging you to prove that there is a better phone for £15 a month, the answer is probably not.

@uppy
what I know is I bought this phone with 2700 EGP (491$) which (for me) expensive
while I could have bought Nokia N97 or Diamond2 for 3000 EGP (545$) or iPhone 3G for 3400 EGP (618$)
And they're all better than Mega
I'm not blaming anyone for my fault but if I can help anyone to see the alternatives then it may prevent him to do the same mistake I did
And I know its just a phone
but still a phone that not worth it

TAKEN THE FINAL WALK :) Athena has to go

After much huffing and puffing i have finally put the nail in my ATHENA experience for the past 7 months.
I have really enjoyed using it but it just falls short in a few major areas for me to continue.
1.Its just TOO BIG as a phone, its ok when im sat down but at weekends and evenings its just too annoying to carry about, removing the sim is like surgery so i dont want to do that too often
2. Its just TOO SMALL to be a half decent laptop, The browser sucks and how ever much you dress up WM6 its just Not XP!
3. I dont drive a car so GPS means nothing to me
So my missus has kindly given me her LG viewty upgrade as a early xmas pressie and today i finally won a bid on ebay for a black EEE pc so thats that.
The viewty is a cracking phone and it feels really weird to hold something so small again as a phone.
It can teach the athena a few lessons as well.
1. It plays back DIVX PERFECTLY full screen no jumping out of the BOX! why the athena is so crap at this is beyond me.
2.It streams movies and TV much better via ORB .. NO BUFERING!
3.Its compatable with Mobile TV .. SKY FOOTY for £5 here i come. You can even connect it to a TV like the Athena.
Obviously theres loads it cant do but too be honest i feel like i have dropped a burden carrying that thing about
with me.
If i was a regular driver and would use the GPS i would keep it, i dont really use any of the Office apps either.
So up on EBAY it goes , superlight weight LAP top and almost feather like phone here i come

Your contributions on these forums will be missed despite the idiot who posted the previous wasteful and utterly pointless previous comment.. i am considering a move away too and i have a choice of phones to keep and the sale of my Athena will fund my next purchase just waiting for reviews of the shift to see if i want one or not!!! Enjoy the eee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm thinking of trading in my Athena for a Viewty or N95 8gb, but they don't seem to be going for very much. I'd have to supplement my Athena (or rather, Ameo) about 90quid at Cex to get a Viewty.
How much did you get for your Ameo Spacecat?
I am still using the Ameo for mobile internet at which it is great, as a phone it is useless to be honest so I still use the Artemis for voice related stuff.
What I want next is the Touch Cruse as this has everything to die for as far as I am concerned, I have just got the wife a Touch (elf) and its a great bit of kit, add the extras the Touch Cruse has on board and this has to be the best combo unit going.
I very nearly got the Viewty yesterday, but I found the attraction of the Touch better - all I need to do is teach HID to use it! (this could take some time) - Mike

Sold my Ameo tonight.
Traded in a DS Lite and some games to get myself a new handset at Cex. This shop is not my ideal choice, but they offer a warranty that lasts a year and covers the phone being blocked (something that Ebay can't do). This turned out to be fortuitous.
I decided I quite like LG Viewtys (after initially deciding I don't). It was either the Viewty or the N95 8GB. Nothing else really holds a candle - sorry Sony Ericsson but you SUCK for web browsing and you DOUBLE SUCK for video recording quality.
I bought one Viewty, tried to make a phone call: blocked. Manager tested device; definitely blocked.
Second device: blocked
Third: blocked.
Unfortunately a man who turned up after me and immediately before I found out MY phone was blocked managed to obtain the ONLY ONE that WASN'T blocked. I cursed under my breath.
I now have £270 worth of CEX vouchers, valid for a year on any product. I wondered if perhaps someone could offer a suggestion of another handset besides the N95 8GB and Viewty which has....
A good browser
HSDPA
Decent camera with VGA movie recording
Those are my only requirements.
Please don't say the standard N95 - I gave the last one away to my fiance so don't wish to buy another.
Thank you

yes ive looked at that but it will be a long time before Cex have one of those for me to exchange my vouchers for.
Just out of interest, what is it that prevents the possibilty of hacking Vga 30fps capability into some of the newer windows mobile devices?
Is this capability entirely hardware driven?
Cheers Pawel

I went for the N95. I know I had one and I know I gave it away to my fiance, but I kind of missed it....
I've just installed the very latest firmware and I'm super impressed. The camera shutter and processing speed is IMPRESSIVELY improved and therefore much more useful than it once was. There's updated maps software, 30% higher battery life and everything just seems great. To be honest I prefer the reassuring tactility of a keypad to touchscreen impact, and for £100 less than the Viewty I don't think I'm missing out on it.
I will say that on second impression I did really like the Viewty, and if it wasn't for a gang of insurance phone blocking scammers operating in derby I would be using one right now, but maybe it does pay to go back to your old club.
I bought a Nokia N800 yesterday on Ebay for no less than 100 quid. Now with the official upgrade release of OS2008 on this device and the fact that the N95 supports SAP, as does the N800 I'm hoping the two will work together and give me a multimedia combination to rock the Athena's socks off.

Buy a Touch Dimond 2 or wait.....

Hi all,
Thinking about buying the HTC touch diamond 2. The thing is I like the look of samsung omnia 2, which has better specs than the diamond, however I prefer touchflo 3D and the form factor of the diamond and it seems a safer bet, plus it has the custom roms and excellent support of these forums
Now the diamond 2 has been out a while so would you still buy one now, or would you wait? Also are they usually reliable or are they prone to bad ones?
Cheers
I'd wait, Leo just got announced
that is, if you can wait
You should definately wait some months, don't buy a D2 then get dissapointed when HTC announce yet another phone. HD2 will definately be a phone you want to buy.
The Diamond 2 came out in April. Well that was 6 months ago. In 6 months the D3 will be out and so will other phones. You will be disappointed if you buy it now and learner that in 4 months a better phone will be out. I'd say upgrade to the HD2 or get the Omnia if you want it. I'm sure there will be a cook that will get TouchFlo3D onto it. Many people have it running on their Xperias. It's all WinMo so it all works the same.
TD2 is a fine phone and if it's in your budget and like the form factor then it's definately worth considering. You could wait for the next version but then you are playing the waiting game and you could end up without.
I have had the TD2 since it came out in the UK which is only some 6 months or so ago and I will be upgrading to the HD2 which is a phone with everything I need.
Although HD2 has almost everything I want in a phone I would never buy it just because of its enormous size. All of you guys are so excited about this device but none of you have had anything that big before. It would be very uncomfortable to carry it around. HTC Pure/Diamond 2 just came out here in the US on AT&T for a very affordable price. I don't know where you're located but if you're in US I highly recomend checking this phone out.
Cheers for the comments, I agree that the touch HD2 looks like an awesome bit of kit it just seems a bit on the huge size, and where at work I need to carry a blackberry around pocket space is hard to come by!
As a side note if I would get the touch diamond 2 I would get it on a 12 month contract so it would not be a huge amount of time to wait if say a snapdragon diamond 3 came out
Please keep the comments coming
I'd wait a few weeks and see what the n900 is like in the flesh. I wstched a couple of video's of it yesterday and I was taken.
Having had nseries phones up till I got my Diamond, O just wsn't immpressed with their touchscreen efforts, I went for the Topaz. Granted, ot is the best looking, both in terms of form factor, and the gui, my homescreem looks ****ing awesome for what is essentially a phone, and i'm on stock!
Having went onto maemos site snd had a hands on look at some of the developers using it, this thing looks amazing, the browser and desktop are totally stunning. The specs for it something else too.
Although the Topaz is highly moddable, most of them are to do with the look and user funtuality, not like the things you could do with a symbian device. Look for thing on here called phonejacker or something, I could do this on my n95, over bluetooth 2years ago, by simply running a python commamd, look at kerfuffle to get working on winmo. I could also use my phone as a wii remote. It's those type of things that I don't like about my Topaz, the potential to do things woth winmo, but after appearance, the nokia was better device.
If this kind of functionality can be brought to the maemo5 platform, then it's hasty goodbye this wonderful piece of eyecandy.
Why I don't doubt what your saying I have personally never been a fan of the symbian OS. Hence why I am stickign with WinMo its not the best but it does everything you want it just sometimes takes a long while to get there!
The n900 doesn't run symnian, it's on linux based maemo5.
The Diamond 2 is a great phone, and with the WinMo 6.5 upgrade will be as good as anything on the market.
The HD2 is way too big for my taste.
You can wait, but that is a perpetual cycle because there will always be a new phone coming out in a couple of months, so when do you stop waiting and actually get a phone?

Thanks Phil,
That kinda summs up where I am, the HD2 is an awesome speced phone but too big for me really, plus I have just got a 4.3" screen Archos 605 which will do a better job with video playback due to the higher colour pallet.
I think I just need to pay the money and get something, if something new comes out then a upgrade is a year away or just have to sell the TD2 and buy it sim-free worst comes worst. I know the TD2 has been out 6 month, but with the version just released in the USA I think it will most likely be sticking about for a while.

It's about 2/3 the thickness of the Topaz (about as thin as a pencil)
I see they've just added it to their products list I think it looks awesome!
I'm glad that some people realize how uncomfortably big HD2 is, and people who are waiting for this device will surely realize that once they get a hold of it.
Thank you everyone for you help,

Yeah but the Pure is on AT&T. Most people wouldn't want to switch over for many reasons. Like they are under contract, They Have a better plan than they can get on AT&T, Their network coverage is better.
And for people like me we love unlocked phones. We travel internationally and it's great to just swap sim cards without having to call the SP to unlock the phone. It's just worth it to pay the moey. Especially when your the only one to have it an people ask what phone it is and if they can get it. And I say In 6-12 months mebe. ok I don't say that but I would.
And for me I have a $40 my faves plan with 1500 txt messages and $5.99 unlimited data plan on T-Mo. I pay about $56 after taxes and all a month. I can use every feature of the phone and it works great on edge an T-mo has nothing to say about it.
The HD2 seems big. The HD seemed big but over the summer I got to actually see one in person while in Greece and I regreted not buying it over the TD2. It was smaller and thinner than I thought and it fit comfortably in my hand. The extra money it would have cost over the TD2 though is what initially changed my mind If I new how it looked in person I woulda paid the extra money.
If the HD2 isn't much bigger I may opt for it. But I hate txting on capacitive screens. Txting is so much faster, easier, and accurate on resistive screens.

Actually read my first response above. 3rd paragraph. If people see it in person they may change their minds as I did with the HD. I would love to see it in person first before I buy it but many people may be surprised.
Make a paper/cardboard cut out of the size and try to imagine it.
Getting the phone unlocked is super easy...don't make a big deal out of it. I would love to pay less and get tmobile but I find tmobile's reception inferrior to att. HD2 may be thinner than D2 but why are you bringing up just the thinnes? What about the height 120.5 vs 107.9? What about width 67 vs 53.1? Now that's some difference.

comparing it to the TD2 there would be a differnce. but after holding a Touch HD the hight and wiidth didnt matter much because the thinness made up for it. especially when in the pocket.
What i was saying that if the HD2 wasnt much bigger than the HD than its worth it. The original HD was iphone sized with a larger screen. The HD 2 is a little taller and wider but thinner. a few mm aint that big a difference. But before i make final judgnent like i did with the HD I'd like to see it in person.
Hd is at the maximum tolerable size I think, and I quite like the design. Looks much more modern than HD2. Few mm on a phone is very noticable.
Personally, i was gonna get a diamond 2 but... yesterday the hd2 got anounced.... so i think im gonna wait a little while longer because the specs on the hd2 are amazing

TD2 Newton's rings confirmed - Shame on you HTC

Hoping that in a way i help the users of this community, i also wanted to confirm the case of newton's rings on my TD2. The phone was bought in a phonehouse shop in Barcelona, on Jan 15. Yesterday (Mar 19) the dreadful rings made their appearance in the center part of my screen, resulting in low or no touch sensitivity in that part. HTC's original flip-case PO S451 has been used on this phone since day 1 and having read about the outrageously bad design of HTC resistive screens (as stated by many users of TP-TP2 / TD-TD2, unfortunately after having bought the device) Ive been extremely careful. Nevertheless, the problem did occur, on the same time period that did to most users (2 months). I dont care whether HTC covers or not, thru warranty, this issue. I dont care if i can temporarily solve this problem by the use of duct-tape (its sad even to type this). I dont care if a new digitizer/LCD screen etc is not that expensive. All i care is that i paid 350 euros for a phone that is called TOUCH Diamond 2, made from a company that is huge in the market, mid 2009 model, and i end up with a badly malfunctioning unit 2 months after purchase.
I suppose i fell on the trap of the 800x480 monitor combined with its great small size and stupidly ignored the outdated WinMo 6.5, the MSM72xx saga and of course the resistive display nightmare. I know that there are many users that will advogate for the contrary, but honestly, i dont think that this phone worths in any way its money. I doubt that i will ever buy an HTC phone again, at least not before i am absolutely sure that its money wellspent, which is definetely not the case with the TD2. After i check on the warranty situation in Spain, i will only be thinking of the most profitable (or less damaging in fact) way to get rid of this phone and check out my android options. 'Nouf said
PS. DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE
Ximo F. Verde
Edit: Just gave back the TD2 to thephonehouse shop, theyll get back to me with whether HTC Spain covers it or not. If it does, ill have a TD2 on sale, on great price, together with their original flip-case and a 2GB SD card for free. Ill get back to this post, in case somebody is interested in buying it. Best of luck to all TD2 users, i honestly hope that this doesnt happen to anybody, even though there are more than a few cases stated only in this forum..
yup...well im also not 100% happy...but at least im going on 1 year without the rings...software wise...meh.
sometimes i seriously consider just getting an ipod...sigh.

Thanx and good luck to you with the TD2 I was just checking out a few Acer Liquid youtube videos. Snapdragon (underclocked), Android 1.6, flawless rendering/motion on GMaps street view, 0 lag on UI, 720p playback (not that its watchable on the display, just to evaluate the 768MHz Snapdragon) and of course capasitive screen 480x800. And 50 euros cheaper than my TD2.. What a mess i did with this purchase.. I just get the feeling that with the exception of the HD2 its not really worth bothering with their products. Too expensive for their MSM72xx illness..
Peace

Thats a very civilised way to talk to other users.. So, seeing that you are a senior member, you should be very well into things. Can you please explain to me and everybody else here, in what way is the TD2 better than the Acer Liquid? BUT DO EXPLAIN PLEASE, im really keen to know.. Win 6.5 (even with sense) is better than android (that will by the way be upgraded to Eclair 2.1 w MT support)? Is the JOKE of a processor that the MSM 72xx is any match even for the underclocked Snapdragon? Maybe its the 'almost capasitive-style sensible' (still laughing) wonder of a resistive display better than the Liquid's capasitive? Ive had the chance to actually check out the Liquid hands-on. I suppose that being so incredibly wiser than me, you have had hands-on and compared it with the TD2. So go on, im all ears.

Buying a smartphone :)

Hi all.
I hate my HTC Tattoo. I can't wait to change it.
The main problem is money, but I've found someone who will buy my Tattoo for a reasonable price, and I've found a guy who will pay me to set up a website for him, so I'm considering changing phone. I'll stick to android, and I was thinking of getting the Nexus One, because it doesn't have all the Sense or Motoblur junk so it gets the updates faster.
Do you have any ideas about where to buy it (or any other decent android smartphone) cheap. I've found a place where they sell it unlocked for 508 euros (635US$), but I'm sure you can find it cheaper. I live in Italy, so it has to be a place that sends stuff worldwide.
Also, if anyone is thinking of selling a N1 or another android phone (or knows someone who is), could you please tell me by PM or comment?
Thanks,
David

Why, man?
Coz HTC not releasing SW-updates?
Tattoo is a bargain at its price (~300USD), I consider.
I started hatting the tattoo too and I'm attempting to sell it now.
And yah its basically cuz I'm tired of 1.6 and there seems there is never going to be a fully working 2.x rom.
Well I think there are some Roms which are even better than official 2.1 that you can just install but surely nexus one is better choice. I love my tattoo even tho I used that phone as a spare only bad thing abt tattoo is small screen that's all but again it fits really cool than any other smart phone out there and If you just work arnd lil bit with roms and install market patched than I think no need to upgrade
Note : there are some pplz who are buying old phones I will send link when I come home and also u can buy nexus one from eBay in abt 350 to 425 USD
Yeah, no S/W updates, but also bad camera, screen, reception...
Thanks symond
EDIT: Oh, almost forgot: no 3D Graphics -.-'
I'm out of the Tattoo scene. Traded it for another phone.
yeah ive played with the tattoo, and i did NOT like it at all!

[Q] Are you glad you bought it?

Are you glad you bought the Mega and would you buy it again if you lost it?

YES, I would

I got a good deal on mine - sim free 200 UKP at Expansys - and at that price it was great value. The battery life is very good and it's small and light. I'd buy one again but only at that price. On the downside the touch screen is quite tricky to use and the display is small although obviously that goes with the device being small overall. I hate the HTC TouchFlo and bought the SPB mobile shell to make mine more usable. There are plenty of other stupidities in the Windows software that can at least be fixed by the excellent tweaks described in this forum. Also I'd rather keep my money out of Steve Job's pocket with his all-controlling attitude.
I wish i bought a tattoo.
Got it some days ago. It's an awesome phone. And by the time I would need a new phone, there would be better ones at that price range for sure. It costed like 280$.
I wish my diamond hadn't been stolen....
if only it wasn't in "bundle" with an i pod shuffle I think that I would bought a tatoo...
BTW camera it's fine, it's only the lack of the accelerometer that is a pain ( text writing)
hmm
not really, knowing the the HD mini came out soon after for roughly the same price :S
Yes,I will. This is great phone and I am very glad I bough it.
Sorry for English.
yes i would..
Best phone that fits my pocket
Got a Samsung Vibrant. Goodbye Windows Mobile, hello Android!
I bought it too. I pay for it only 201€ , this ppc is the best for me.
But WildFire looks great too. I don´t need big display
when i first got mine, it takes sometimes to get used to.
Need to get the soft jacket capdase to put on because its quite small for my hand but now it seems perfect hit. I like the touch screen.
