If you have demoed an HD2, please post here saying when and where - HD2 General

I'd like to get a list of which shops in which cities actually have HD2's available for demonstrations. (Personally I'd like somewhere in London, but other people will want them in other places!)
Obviously feel free to tell us what you thought of the phone when you demo'ed it.

Got one to test
I have been playing with it since last week, and some things are great - somethings I dont like. I don't really want to say much as it may not be final software.

I have to say I'm very suspicious of all these people who claim to have a device 'but can't say anything because they might get into trouble'...
I believe Belafont because at the very least he posted pics and feedback....
hey..maybe I've got on here to play with...can't say anything of course...you'll have to wait......
yeah right

You could still say but put a disclosure that it might not be the final ROM.

To be fair, the release date is just around the corner so we'll get more answers soon.
There's supposed to be another announcement on the 4th Nov, not sure what other details they can give but still going ot be interesting nonetheless.

exactly my point, if wildwayz has one as he claims, why doesn't he tell us about it...show us some pics etc....
with the release just around the corner, what difference would it make to divulge some info?

chill guys
some of us would put our professional lives at risk by speaking out now.
Its called an NDA - Non-Disclosure Agreement
And before you ask - no I aint got one

Show you some photos? What of? The outside of the case?
I DO have one - even posted a photo of the battery in another thread. I just installed the final ROM on the HTCPedia site - which has fixed the issue with Panoramic Photos.
Not played too much with the final ROM tho...
The reason I can't say too much is because it was a test ROM and I don't want to say anything negative about it as it doesnt give HTC fair chance to correct the issues.
What do you want to know about the HTC HD2? I'll try to answer it as best I can - bare in mind, I am new to Windows Mobile (Last time I used one, was back in the days of the PDAs ).

Speaking as the OP, I'm actually not very intererested in people who claim to have an HD2 "on test"; the main motivation behind this thread is to identify places (e.g. shops) where members of the general public can go to get HD2 demos of their own. In the early stages of a phone's release cycle, even if a given chain sells the phone, any given branch may well not have enough of them to be able to offer demonstrations. If we can find which places do, that'll be a good start.

I want to ask about screen material..
Is it made a tempered glass or flexy-plastic ??

May I humbly suggest that we don't attack every single person who comes to the forum and says he has the device, immediately declaring his/her words to be a hoax? Each and every one of us can make their own judgment, believe what we read or not, but this thread is asking for user experience, and I simply don't see the point in discouraging people right away. Also, demanding proof is kind of silly. If I had the device and read this thread, I'd most probably just leave - I certainly wouldn't bother to take pictures of myself with the phone or prove that I have it in any other way.
We're all anxious to get our hands on the beast, but let's be reasonable!

Tempered glass - well it feels like the iPhone. I think it may have some kinda special coating on it - smudges show up, but in the morning they are gone (Pilkinson make some glass like that, I believe).
Plus it is capacitive.
When you factory reset it, the setup wizard is very similar to the Hero - asks you to test the typing etc, choose mobile operator, connect to wi-fi then set up GMail, Exchange or another email account.
You can remove items from the Sense bar - so if you dont use Twitter etc, they can be removed.

Will do - but won't it conflict with the SENSE UI?

That's exactly why you are asked to try running it - to find out whether it conflicts with Manila.
I think you'll need to disable it to run SPB Shell properly. Previously it was done in Settings - Personal - Items - uncheck TouchFLO3D.

one question I do have is about the notification LED.
on previous WM phones (I'm thinking of my Orbit in particular) there were two LEDs. These were used for notification of charging, power, sms, bluetooth etc.
the original HD only had one, and it was very small and hard to see
how big and easy to see is the LED on the HD2?

...is there something to win for the best OT?

wow, multitouch like iphone and the lovely 1ghz processor is the reason I'm willing to sell my Touch HD for the HD2. And wow, so happy to hear that it is tempered glass and not the bull**** resistive multitouch screen someone has been claiming.

Yeah I always found it pretty weird that some people were convinced that the HD2 carried a resistive touch screen when HTC themselves had gone on record saying that it was capacitive. Just proves how ignorant some people can be.
Got to try out the phone at the local expo over the weekend in Helsinki and pre-ordered one today. Was very impressed by the performance and looks of the HD2.

Yah I actually been having the same problems which is extremely annoying...
why do i waste my time taking apart my htc (g1 latest) devices in order to stop them creaking when i type messages on keyboard? or try and get the movable screen level when shut instead of wobbling (and creaking) on it's axis pin?
ho hum *yawn* will i ever learn?
i think this is my last htc device that has moving parts!
... i mean, when i type, it's like im on a boat, all i need is the tide lapping at my bow ...
Yeah trying to type while g1 is charging is downright ugly!!!

Lol well i have my doubts then something restores my faith in it. I just used mikey's tutorial sticky on encoding video's and after doing it and watching lord of war and the transformers on this beautiful phone my faith in the future of the g1 is once again restored!!!
Just wondering what all the hype about root is because I have no idea what I can do with it even if i had it.
Semi-interesting Android phone (not G1)
This is a little off-topic, but it might be of some interest to Android aficionados.
http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/android-powered-kogan-agora-pro-mobile-phone/
Kogan, an Australian company, is scheduled to release the first Android phone for domestic and worldwide shipping in January. Its form factor is something like an HTC Excalibur (T-Mobile Dash) or a Blackberry Curve running Android. But the price is the best point. The "Agora Pro" version with GPS and wi-fi will sell for AU$399 and the leaner "Agora" for only AU$299. Using Handy Calc, that comes to about US$260 (£175/205€) for the pro and US$195 (£130/155€) for the plain version.
Pros (IMHO):
Cheap
Familiar smartphone form factor with no moving parts
256MB on-board memory, 128MB flash, plus SD-card slot
624MHz processor
1300mAh battery
3G worldphone for everything but T-Mobile USA's 3G
Will work with AT&T 3G
Cons (IMHO):
Smallish resistive touchscreen
No 1700MHz band for 3G on T-Mobile in the US
Uses a joystick-like pointer instead of a more ergonomic d-pad
Same OS limitations as the G1 (bluetooth, etc.)
At least it looks more legit than the G2 phone that one company said was coming out LOL
I wonder... The phone looks alot like BlackJack III
, would it be possible to flash WinMo to the Kogan....
I like it I miss the candybar layout- a sliding keyboard that squeaks vs. no moving parts for me is a no brainer (actually the setup on the new blackberry is intriguing as well) It would be nice if the specs on the internal memory would start increasing, seeing as how cheap memory seems to be getting lately. If it worked on tmo's 3g, I would be all over it.

Haha nice, oh well I still like the Dash for now... Even though the G1 can do somethings that the dash can't.... and the 3g on the g1 is amazing... I wish there was ultimately a way to have an emulator on the g1...
Could anyone point me to the right direction of this all > What are Root, RC8, RC29 and RC30 etc. Is there a starting point on this forum about the phone, about installing apps, from market and pc (pc > dont think this is possible yet?). I was under the impression the G1 was as open as can be. Then what's the point of jailbreaking. Does the over the air update effect a G1 in The Netherlands? I've read alot, but I can't put the pieces together/in the right order, because I didn't start from the beginning. Thank you in advance.
I live in The Netherlands and we have 240 Volts coming out if the walls. In the US this is 110V if I'm correct. Is it possible to use another HTC charger bought in The Netherlands to charge the phone?
Finally got my screen to stop squeaking...
the easy way....
(this is actually a friends G1, he wont tell me how it happened, but I am pretty sure it was thrown.)

1) Go to the Developers sub-forum for the RCxx threads (more detail there than you will probably want initially, then not enough detail as you hack-away!)
2) installing apps are phone -> market or internet at the moment. I think there is a way to install from the SD card (which means PC -> SD) but I personally have not explored that method yet.
3) it is very open and will be more open in the future, this is still a "baby" phone/OS. The RC30 OTA was to stop 99% of the people from trashing their phones by mistake thereby reducing the calls to customer service. On the other hand, plain text typing from the keyboad (reboot, etc) wasn't a very good thing. We'll see improvements on this in the future. Personally, I think the term 'jailbreaking' is misapplied here, the iPhone has many more issues. As far as SIM unlocking, that is available free from TMo.
4) the OTA updates will catch up to you in the NL, I am not certain if you will get the UK version or the US version.
5)the US charger is autosensing for line voltage and accepts 110-240V AC, no need to buy another unless you'd prefer a native plug for the wall instead of the US 'spade' type.
Welcome to a great phone.

Connect G1 with USB. If you're missing the USB driver, get it here. Grab a copy of adb from here. Unzip it into the folder with the apks you want to install. Open a console, navigate to the folder with the apks and adb, and type adb install xxx.apk, where xxx is the name of the apk you want to install.
Anyone want to sell a g1 or maybe trade?
Is their anyone out there that would either sell me a g1 at a reasonable price or maybe trade for a hermes plus some cash. The hermes is a cingular 8525, unlocked. I have the charger, headset, usb cable, plus I just bought a new i-mate jasjam case for it. The only thing That is missing is the front camera. If anyone is interested please let me know. I know it is unlikely that it will happen but let me know.

My jaw dropped to the ground in sheer horror on that one.

Looking for some advice please

I am due an upgrade on my phone and I am trying to decide between an iphone and a HTC HD2. I prefer the HTC as a phone but the apps on the iphone is making it a hard decision.
I am on the road constantly as a field technician so would like to have sat nav, music, games and videos on the phone to keep me entertained when I am in the middle of nowhere with some down time.
Is there anything that can be done to the HTC to make it more versatile like a jailbroken iphone? would the HTC be able to do what I am looking for or am I better going for an iphone?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer me some advice.

When you say "Is there anything that can be done to the HTC to make it more versatile like a jailbroken iphone?"
What exactly do you mean?
The HD2 is a very versatile handset from the start, and no need to jailbreak to get full functionality

thanks for the reply, what I mean is are you limited to what can be put onto the HTC? I have been into several shops stocking them and the staff dont seem to know much about them and keep trying to sell me an iphone, possibly because they are getting better commisson on the iphone?
I have looked around online for info as to what can be put onto the HTC but cant seem to find out much about it. applications seem to be very limited for what seems to be a better device than the iphone.
would the HTC be able to meet the criteria I have for the phone?

Heh - and then some.
You need to look for software for windows mobile, not HTC. The only real things you need to consider are that you need software that is fully touch compatible, it needs to be WVGA compatible (you can get away with a lot of VGA software too, as they mostly rely on the width in portrait, which is the same for both resolutions), and is it for the right version of Windows. Normally, you can get away with anything that is Windows Mobile 6.1 onwards, but that's not always the case.
Just google for windows mobile software and forget about jailbait iPhones. It ultimately comes down to whether you want a smartphone or a toy (I'm not actually knocking the iPhone - I think it's great, but it is a toy).
Incidentally, don't worry about MarketPlace too much. Most people think it's crap and there's a reason for that... it pretty much is. If you want apps wrapped up in one place, try OpenMarket. You can get it here...

I have seen iphones running sat nav with lane assist and speed camera alerts, would it be possible to get the same kind of sat nav on the HTC and if so how much would it cost me?
Really dont want to go down the iphone route like half of the rest of the world has, would like to get something a little different.
The HD2 can do whatever the iPhone can...minus the ease of use [sometimes]. Sometimes it doesn't work out of the box because there are countless version of builds for manila and such...and only one for iphone. Pretty much the only gripe people will have is that they have to go and FIND whatever it is that they're looking for on the HD2, whereas everything is readily available on the app store for the iphone. You should take some time and play with each device and see what the pros and cons are for YOU. If it's too troublesome for you to dig through different versions of a program to play your video or whatnot, then it's better to get an iphone.

in the uk we get co pilot bundled with the phone as standard. it works perfectly and integrates very will with the phones gps. i used to run tom tom (latest version) on my omnia, which is also a win mobile phone so see no reason why it shouldn't run well on the HD2 as well.
both tom tom and co pilot work with additional info such as speed cameras etc.
i am sure that google will be your friend, just search for navigation software windows mobile or similar and am sure plenty of results will ensue.

depends on the severity of the "issues." I'm on AT&T and have not encountered any kind of problems that some people have.
I don't have the faulty capacitive screen
I don't have any battery drainage issue (good for 2-3 days)
I don't have SMS not sending/receiving
I don't have SMS sending to the wrong person
The phone doesn't froze on me [unless it's my own doing]
etc etc..
So outside of you installing some rogue software/program that cause whatever issues that you might encounter, the phone itself is as perfect as a smartphone goes. I can't really pinpoint anything significant problem about this phone.

Some is hardware and some is software (ie, manila). Pretty much all of the problems I've listed have been solved ever since their early release back in Oct/Nov.
yeah, we all know that there are about 100.000 apps crusing around
but, let me say it, which one do you REALLY need?
my brothers got an ipod touch with about 100apps on it...but for everydayusing there are only a handful...
so i would say, that you can even find such apps for windows mobile...everything you really need...and not 100.000 apps, from which are about 98% useless imho.

New HD2 Owner (T9193)

Just a couple quick questions, please.
Ordered a T9193 from AU (Telus ROM, if I'm not mistaken) and it will be arriving in a few days. But with all the knockoffs out there, I'm wondering if any of you have heard anything about the HD2 being a target of counterfeiters. I would think not because of the new hardware and the cost of it, but you never know.
Also, if any of you guys have a 'FAQ for new HD2 owners who are on AT&T', that would be great. Just wondering if there are any settings, ROMs or applications I should be loading up.
Thanks!
Bill, did you get your phone yet and if so, I could use a little help if you've got a little spare time.
Tell Opus I said hi by the way
Thanks
George
George, I'm at your service. How can I help?
Ok boss, here's what I need or have problems with..
"Does anyone have the HTC Touch HD2 T9193?
If so, could you show me what the screen looks like with the fonts set at max size?
There's also supposedly a feature that lets you enlarge the screen 200% and I would love to see some pics of what that looks like 'cause I really have a problem finding a phone where the stuff on the screen is big enough for me to see without glasses.
Maybe someone could do this and put it on a scanner so I can get a good picture to scale? I could then download a pic of an iPhone and scale it to size and compare the two side by side."
My problem is I can't see anything without glasses and the reason I got an iPhone a couple of years ago which was borderline in font size at the time. My eyes have gotten worse since then and besides, I hate the damn iPhone. Worse PHONE I've had.
Great at other stuff but as a phone, it's a piece of $hit!
Funny considering it's got PHONE in the name...
Thanks Bill
George
George, the built in (Windows Mobile) font size control applies only to text in applications, not the text for displays like icons or other informational labels. However, if you can track down a shareware utility called "Advanced Configuration" by Julian Schapman, I believe it has the ability to do what you need. If not, I'm sure there's a tweak for that somewhere around here, and if one doesn't already exist, this is the place to ask to get one done for you.
BTW, my eyes aren't what they used to be twenty years ago, either, which is why I went with the big screen of the HD2. We're in the same boat/
Here's the problem Bill. Ever since I started looking for a good phone some 3 years ago, I've never been able to find something that would give me larger fonts and info.
Screens have always been big enough but the space allowed for a phone number, picture of the person calling or something has always been limited.
I got help a few years ago by Negri Electronics (negrielectronics.com) and they recommended the iphone which WAS a good choice for font size and so on.
Anyway, in iPhone all that was better but still left a bit to be desired because there WAS more space available but lots of it was wasted.
I am now on the lookout for a new phone and again the same problem.
I found the program you mentioned and NOT a word about making stuff bigger... http://www.touchxperience.com/en/applications/advanced-configuration-tool.html
As for getting someone here to write something or hack it, that's all good but I would have to first BUY the damn thing so I can see how software works on it and what if it doesn't work?
The problem is, I have no way of KNOWING that I'll get this resolved
Hell, I posted a thread here asking for help (not this thread, another one but I can't post the link as it won't let me) and still not even one answer. The internet is great but sometimes, it can take AGES to get something resolved
THanks
George
Well I guess your answer is that
the HD2 is as big as you are going to get until they get a phone app for the iPad.
George, it sounds like you haven't seen the HD2 in person yet. The first thing I'd recommend is to find someone who has one (even if it means going to a Tmobile store) and look at the phone in person.
With regard to the Advanced Configuration Tool, if you look under the list for 'user interface', you'll see a selection for: vertical icon spacing, horizontal icon spacing and icon title font size. However I don't know if this will work with the HD2's interface so you'll have to ask of someone who uses it.
I'm willing to bet that what you want can be done. It's probably just some settings in the registry that you can change, or find a utility that provides a user-friendly interface to change settings such as the ACT or BSB Tweaks.
A last resort would be to hire a ROM chef to cook up a basic interface for you which would accommodate your needs. Might cost you some money, but it would get you exactly what you need. Try touching base with the developer of Co0kie's Home Tab and/or one of the better known ROM chefs (look in the HD2 ROM Development forum here) to see if you can find someone to work with.
Other than that, I'm pretty much out of ideas.
The HD2 is in comparaison to for example the Diamond 2 or any other previous HTC phone 'huge'. Font sizes on these previous versions are much smaller.
Once you get used to the HD2 you realize how small those older models' screens and letters really are..
THanks guys.
Then there's the small matter of the 8-900 bucks for the phone but that's another issue.
How much do you think I would have to pay someone to mod this for me and would you possibly have a couple of links for me as I'm not sure even who, what and where these people are?
I will post something on the forum of that advance software site, thanks
By the way, the local stores don't have the 9193 and the other stuff they have isn't working. Dummies only. Eh, dummy phones I mean

George, be creative here and make your own solution. Here are two choices on how to go about it.
1) Post an inquiry to meet up with someone in your area explaining that because of your eyesight you wanted to see an HD2 in action to see if it's right for you. If you happen to be in the NJ, Southern NY or Norteastern PA areas, I'd be glad to meet with you so you can see mine.
-or-
2) Just go to a Tmobile store, tell them you're thinking about buying the phone, that you have bad eyesight and you wanted to see a functioning unit to tell if it's right for you and you can operate it with your eyesight being as it is. Obviously don't mention that you're intending to go with an AT&T carrier, but then again, Tmobile is a great provider and unless you're in a bad area I see no reason why you shouldn't consider them.
As to finding a chef, just put a post in the ROM Development forum. There are many known chefs such as Dutty, Artemis, Energy and others who may be more than happy to code something for you at a price. How much? I don't know, but hell - they do it for free and post their stuff on the forum here for nothing for the benefit of all of us with nothing asked in return but a good will donation, so I'm sure you can work something out.
Pricing on the phone is steep but you can get a T9193 for about $700. I bought mine from this guy via Ebay for $740-ish delivered to my door, but if you shop around and wait it out, I've seen buyers get them for as low as $600.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Unlocked-HTC-HD...wItem&pt=AU_Mobile_Phones&hash=item4aa0aa52ec
I mean, really - it's not that complicated, unless you're intentionally trying to make it hard on yourself. You'll never get anything if you don't ask for it, earn it, or make your own luck. Just be persistent and you'll find it'll be worth your while, no matter what the end result. The victory is in the trying.
Yep, you're right but all this is new to me.
Other things that I have more experience with, I can find easier but all this is new and I'm a bit lost.
I just want to narrow it down so I post in the right place and so on because some post I've made, I have had NO response too so no matter if I tried, it didn't work.
For instance, I'm looking for this ROM development forum or threads and I can't find it. I'm guessing you're talking about the windows software development forum/section?
Also, I was scrolling down and looking at the phone specific forums and I can't even tell which phone is which. It's not that easy bro. Well, for me it's not.
Some things I'm good at and others, I'm not.
I'm not really that lazy. I do a lot of research on the web but man, it gets tiring when you only get bits and pieces and you're going back and forth. Anyway, I'm just trying to explain. I will continue as I DO need a phone.
Where should I post to find someone in my area?
The local store didn't have one when I was there a couple of days ago.
Thanks
George
By the way, I just called the t mobile store I was at on monday and the guy confirmed that his phone that he showed me was the HD2 and whatever was on his screen, I had a real hard time seeing, even the icons were too small for me to distinguish.

Serious issues with HD2

Dataconnection!!!
Lack of auto rotation in App's
Lack of App's in general
Continually having to restart
Web Browsing just does not work
Poor response to touch!!
Just to name a few.
I wanted to love this phone. I spent a good month deciding what phone to get and this one seemed to fit the bill on paper. I have now had it for about two months and have wanted to smash it into a million pieces more times than I can remember. It has just got to the point that I'm putting it on ebay this afternoon.
I do think that the major flaw with this phone is Windows. Put Android on it and I am sure it would be amazing. For this reason a new HTC Desire is now on order.
Sorry to put this on here, but I need somewhere to vent my anger.
the only thing i hate about Leo..is lack of apps..and since the made it on wm 6.5..no devs will pay any serious attention at this platform..and android aint any better..
First I was so anti iphone..but now..I'm even thinking about switching..for some good games..most of the part..

I agree with you, planning to sell it soon.
anyway as i said the only thing is lack of apps..
compare the appstore to windows market..the second one is so empty..
HD2 is really one of the best phones ever..and its way better then ip..but..I love playing games so mush..and on ip there r some tight *** games..
And on WM 6.5 the only good game out there is zenonia..and it was ported from ip..

I have both an HD2 and an iPhone. HD2 is my work phone and the iPhone my private/games phone.
I do not have the problems on browsing, dataconnection or poor response on my HD2.
Some apps I installed did create those problems and I had to remove them.
There are lots of apps for the HD2 (though the number is decreasing since Microsoft decided to kill windows mobile) the problem is that there is not as much quality control as Apple imposes for the iphone and they are not easily accesible in a single appstore.
And I prefer the HD2 because it has a better screen

All of them are bull****.
There is a perfectly good auto rotation app.
If you need to restart that often, You must have a bad leo. Mine work(ed) fine, untill I broke it.
Web browsing works PERFECTLY. Its a tonne better than the Iphone browsing ever was! And with Wifi - Its just as good as a desktop brower.
Poor touch response? Never had that. It feels just like any other captive screen to me. Probably responds better than all other ones Ive owned.
Lack of apps? Well noone can say thats a lie. I miss the appstore so much. But Ive come to realise PSX on a mobile phone is better than any game the app store ever had.
I do miss little fun apps, that were usless though.
I really think your either a apple fan boy, or have a bad leo.
Get your warrenty to change it, and try to love it again.]
Because All ive had from my phone is love, and even my friends who copied me and got one fell in love (and hell, they are from from exprets on phones so you'd think they would hate winmo)

Lack of auto rotation in App's -as posted, there are numerous rotate apps
Lack of App's in general- If you did you're research on the phone you would know this, this is accross the whole WINMO estate, so not just the HD2, if you want shiny apps, you know where to go.
Continually having to restart- Yes, agreed when i was on stock rom i had to restart a lot but XDA had a lot of dedicatec chefs cooking roms for us where these issues do not happen
Web Browsing just does not work- I think you'll find it does, and perfectly well, give more details of your bad experience please
Poor response to touch!!- again, i fail to see this issue.
Just to name a few.

I agree, a terrible phone.
I'll give you $100 for it.

personally i'd rather buy an iphone as another phone just for games then change my precious for it!!
hd2 is sooo tight!
Dataconnection: no problems at all. Wifi and H/G3 connections work without any problems. Fast and very stable.
Lack of auto rotation in apps: Plenty of apps with auto rotation. If not, you can force auto rotation with a tool.
Lack of apps in general: most USEFUL apps are available. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I like the games (3D and puzzle) that are on the market. I don't need most of the useless games of the iphone. iphone has more free games, but the price of the phone is much higher so you will pay the apps anyway.
Restart: I have the phone for 3 months now, 2 restarts because of freezes and mainly because of tweaking.
Webbrowsing: best I've ever experienced on a mobile phone. The screen is perfect for this, and everything feels very smooth and works like a laptop. One of the main reasons why I bought this phone.
Poor respons to touch: I really don't understand this point. The screen is very responsive and fast.
I think you have a bad product. I'm a serious user of this phone and I never experienced one of the above mentioned problems.
Flash your phone with one of the custom roms from xda and stop complaining about the HD2 or go and buy an iPhone. There are tons of solutions here on this forum...My HD2 is stable as a rock, if I have a problem I search the forum instead of complaining and telling everybody how bad the HD2 is.

Flashing the rom, voiding the warranty should never be the answer to fix a phone, should be functional from the start..You lose..

I only agreed on 1 point, fun and small games, WVGA games for HD2 are not enough and I really miss Tunewiki and Layar. That's it. Best and most beautiful phone I've ever had

Name a single phone that doens't have problems. Then please salt your hat, and eat it.
Voiding warrenty? Just flash to stock. Tmob havn't said a single thing about mine yet! even when I went into a shop with a clearly un-stock rom.

Is this still a good phone to buy ?

Is the HD2 still a good smart purchase nowdays with the androids and the Iphone 4 ?
It will be used for:
1. Book reading **
2. GPS
3. Phone calls
4. SMS/EMAIL/MSN Messenger
THAT IS ALL.
** Anyone know of good Ebook reading apps for HD2 ?
Thanks !
ιf u go to a lockal phone store u can see it n use it for testing etc, personaly i d buy it one more time if i had to buy a phone now..
i love the big screen n how quick it is but most of all i like thet u can do so much customizations.
from icons to whatever
if u dont have a lot of time to spend with it then buy something else...
because this phone makes u feelin that u r somnethin like a crazy scientist performing al theese mods and rom flashing

Hey! It's a great for all these:
e-books: Check out AlReader2 - I'm addicted to it as a book-reader, and have churned through so many books on it. If you struggle finding it, PM me or look at my message history, I posted it somewhere (it's freeware).
GPS: Well I have TomTom, which I paid for, which is perfect. There's others out there ranging from free/cheap/pricey. And Google Maps works great with GPS, altho it's not suitable for car navigation unless you're happy with the top-down view.
Phone: No problems at all.
email: Fantastic, both for Outlook and other mail. Some people (and I'm one of them) find the keyboard a bit buggy, but it's replacable, and as an Email reader/short replies it's perfect.
I probably could go into more detail but me tired!

The customization point is a bit extreme tbf. Yes, i would advise reading through the tips and tweaks threads (both performance and general) and yes, it helps if you spent a hour or so familiarising yourself with the UI and your hardware and software versions but once done it's a case of take yout time over it. The HD2 is the fastest smartphone (raw power wise) on the market ATM and that includes the iPhone 4G. It just takes a little bit more love to get how you want it then most other phones (tbh that's windows mobile all over). If you can accept that fact then buy a HD2 ASAP. if not enjoy you nokia or iphone. From experience i know i wouldn't
Thanks guys I think I am going to go for it.
Can I see some screenshots from the ebook reader ?
Also, can it withstand a random drop from ear-height ? Is that glass ultra-fragile ?

It's not "ultra fragile", but it's glass anyway. Depending how the phone will touch the ground it can break or not. But from what I've seen it's pretty resistant for little accidental drops.
Sorry - would love to set you up with a screenshot but I just read this and it's 4am now
Will try in the morning (or afternoon!) if I don't get called into work. I did hunt in Google Images for you when I did my OP but none showed it off in it's best light (e.g. full screen on the HD2's luscious screen.
Cracking the screen-wise, all I can suggest is to look after it - but anecdotally, while there's a lot of threads on here from people who have sadly dropped and cracked it, there's also a lot from people who have accidently dropped it onto hard ground from shoulder-height who are impressed to see not a single scratch or dent. I believe the biggest factor is if the screen lands on one of it's corners or falls flat onto something sharp.
Will try for a screengrab tomorrow
EDIT: Found a way! Bear in mind it's a low-res pic, looks crystal clear in real life.. There's loads of options like font size, background colour, line-spacing, and then you use swipes etc. to move the page/chapter.
Excellent |! Thanks |!
u deserve an iphone

It depends on the high and angle you drop it at, but the general consensus seems to be don't drop your phone. There was a thread where they dropped it from a couch and it broke. I've seen a thread where it broke from some guy getting out of a car (phone was in his lap) and it fell on concrete and broke. A lot of people have cracked their phone and have lambasted to HTC for having such a weak screen.
GPS: Bing has free turn-by-turn directions also.
Hi, not sure it would be a good idea signing up to a long contract at this point when there will be new phones coming a long soon, however the HD2 is probably going to be the last and greatest winmo6 handset available. If winmo6 is your thing then you have to get this Phone.
Well guys thanks to this forum I finally purchased my T-Mobile HD2.
Just pulled it out of the box, and i'm puzzled.
If anyone could direct me to reading materials on Sim Freeing it, adding different language keyboards, etc, i would appreciate it.
(or is everything on the sticky ? )
thanks !
enjoy it then, my advice is keep it stock for a while and then start modifiying it.. search the forum and u find everythin
welcome
Well I'll try.
It's just that I don't want to store stuff on it (contacts, data) when I know a new ROM would delete everything so I want to get this over with now
How do I SIM Unlock it btw ?
getting Hard SPL on and then flashing a cooked ROM should unlock the device for any SIM I believe.
On the subject of ebook readers, just a little plug for Freda.
