P4000 upgrade for a n00b - Mogul, XV6800 General

Hey all - I'm brand new to this and am looking to install a custom ROM on my HTC P4000 from Telus which has the WM 6.1 upgrade on it. Can anyone point me to a solid and reliable ROM plus a step-by-step method to install it?
Sorry again for my lack of experience - I appreciate any help

http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=33857

just a tip. Get a 2gig micro NON-SDHC SD card.
I was able to flash my spl and ROMS with a computer and usb cable, but the radio would not work whatsoever. So I had to get a simple microSD card to flash the radio.
justs a heads up. Cheers, check our Ryan Moguls V1.5 ROM - it's still 6.1 but it's solid, and has the least amount of memory leaks and the most touch friendly interface.
cheers and good luck

Thanks m8 - is that the light or heavy ROM you're referring to?

.. and I am now stuck in bootloader mode.

Extract the contents of Olipro240.exe into a folder using Winrar or 7zip. Disable USB connections in Active sync connections settings (icon on Computers taskbar). Plug the phone in. Now look in the extracted folder for Exitbl.exe. Run that. Soon as it gets out of bootloader unplug the phone, manually put back in bootloader and if you are flashing using the RUU (utility flashing) make sure the memory card is removed. Then plug the phone back in and run the RUU.
OR
If using MicroSD method, unplug the phone and put the Card in the phone. Image named TITAIMG.nbh (make sure computer is set to show file extenstions in control panel folder options hidden files and folders settings). Now manually put the phone in bootloader and follow the prompt.
Cheers.

I am using the SD method, but the bootloader keeps saying image file not found. File is definately TITAIMG.nbh

Follow my instructions and dont post back until you do.
Card should be a non sdhc card. 2gb and under. Fat32 formatted, default allocation size. And the image should be the only thing on the card, no folders or anything..

Now that was strange - I thought for sure it was formatted as Fat32 - it wasn't. Thanks!
BTW - is there any recommendation for my unit - your light or heavy ROM? I have 400mhz CPU and have Telus as Carrier

I know what cpu the phone has.. I design the ROMs. Use Carrierless 1.5 light. But its all up to you. You can try as many as you like the Titan is very durable.

Thanks Ryan - the upgrade went great - nice ROM! Now my only issue is the WMDC won't recognize the device! It shows up in Device Manager (Windows 7) as "Microsoft Windows Mobile Adapter" with a yellow exclamation mark indicating that Windows cannot load the drivers for this device.
Is there a way around this?

I dont know, havent upgraded to Windows 7 yet still using XP and 64 Ultimate. It could be the usb port you are using (use a main one built onto your motherboard and unplug all other devices).
You could of tried restarting your computer, sometimes after a bad flash attempt you could experience detection problems.
You may need HTC drivers and I am not sure they exist yet for Windows 7, the Vista ones may work I am not sure search for those on Howardforums, PPCgeeks, and here I cant remember where I got them from maybe I will find them and upload them to my share site. Although the drivers that come with WMDC should work.
I dont know though buddy. Least you have a Custom ROM on there now. Thats a step in the right direction. Awesome job gittin er dun.. lol

ROM Upgrade fails when ActiveSync disconnects

Boo Hoo ... I love my HTC-HD2, (despite all the grief HTC should have avoided inflicting on us), ... and so I was really looking forward to the 1.66 ROM Upgrade. BUT it won't load for me...
I downloaded the ROM ("GCC & Egypt" version out of Middle-East & Africa site - I'm an expat living in Dubai), connected my phone to my PC by USB & ActiveSync, ran the ROM.exe on my PC, carefully ticked and clicked my way through all the dialogue boxes and when I hit the last "next" button to launch the ROM upgrade, ActiveSync decides to disconnect leaving the phone hanging in the tri-clour bootloader mode and 10 seconds later, (with the connection dropped), I get Error [266] UPDATE ERROR (see attached screen shot).
Happily a quick restart after removing the battery restored the phone to its un-upgraded state. Thinking I may have tweaked something I shouldn't have on my phone (with loaded software, reg-edits and xda-tweaks), I hard reset it back to the original factory 1.43 ROM condition and retried the 1.66 Upgrade; but no go - same ActiveSync disconnection/bootloader hang. Tried again with firewall and virus protection turned off; and again on a different PC; and again and again holding my tongue in every conceivable different position - but no joy and now I have a bald patch from all the hair I pulled out.
I might just be thick and missed something, (though - as a last resort - I did read the instructions seven times), ... so I'm desperately seeking assistance. Any help would be greatly appreciated ... as I'm finding it difficult to suppress the rising anger and loathing I developing for Team HTC - who have now predisposed me to blame them for everything that goes wrong including global warming; - this is turning out to be pretty much like my relationship with all the old Landrovers I've owned - but I digress - can anyone suggest a solution or point out my error ... before I send the less than complimentary email I'm drafting to HTC, who will then have to blacklist me from buying the HD3 and then I won't have anything to complain about, (because my current Landrover Discovery 3 is uncharacteristically perfect !!).
That's because Windows needs an extra driver for the phone in bootloader mode. It is then no longer connected via Activesync.
Put your phone into bootloader mode, connect it to your PC, wait for the driver to install, then flash again (while the phone is in bootloader mode).
ROM Upgrade Utility / Phone connection problem persists
Thanks for the advice; but still have a problem.
PC connects and recognises the phone via USB connection in bootloader mode(so I assume driver has loaded properly) but ROM upgrade utility still stalls with error message saying "Update Utility cannot get response from your PDA Phone".
Several attempts to run Upgrade Utility while phone is in bootloader mode all fail; sometimes with no detection at but once or twice it manages to detect the phone but doesn't obtain any status info and ultimately fails to communicate properly, always ending up with the Error message noted.
Starting think I have a hardware problem ... oh no ... will have to deal with HTC Middle-East (which will mean numerous miscommunications, 3-4 week waits, phone being lost/misplaced, after 2-months being told there is actually no problem - must all be in my head ... think I'll just slash my wrists now and save the aggravation.)

What version of Windows are you using? If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7 64 bit you may need to install the required drivers by yourself, rather than automatically updating drivers.
Have tried on two systems:
1. Win XP (32bit version with Service pack 3) running as virtual machine in Parallels 5.0 on an iMac OS 10.6 (snow leopard) - yes I've ventured out of the shadows into the light.
and
2. Win XP (32bit version with Service pack 3) running on a standard PC
Both seem to connect, bootloader on phone shows "USB" and under Control Panel/System/Device Manager the HTC Device shows as a USB Root Hub device "working properly" ???

Strange. I guess you have tried using different USB ports, and not using a USB hub port. Are you using the stock USB cable that came with your HD2?
You might also try flashing a ROM with your storage card. That should bypass your USB problem. You can find instructions here.
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Yes; the first thing I tend to suspect is the USB Hub or ports on peripherals, but I also tried virtually every direct connect USB port on both machines.
and
Yes, I'm using the standard HTC micro-USB cable ... BUT whilst waiting for my second HTC cable to arrive I have also been using a micro-USB from a Jabra SP700 (car speaker) which "looks" identical but only charges my HD2 and doesn't work with ActiveSync ... so now I'm wondering if it is slightly different, maybe it has damaged the terminals on the phone - though would've thought that all micro-USBs plug in the same even if terminal configs differ resulting in connectivity differences ???

I do not understand all the mechanics of it, but no, not all micro-USB cables are the same, apparently some do not carry enough current, or some such thing. I am searching for more information for you now. If I find it, I will post it here.
For the life of me, I cannot find the information I was looking for. I read somewhere that others solved the problem by just disconnecting and reconnecting the phone during the flash process when the error occurs.
Well try another HTC cable as that sure seems to be suspect now. If all else fails, I would try flashing through the memory card method.
Keep us update. Hopefully soon you will get what you want.
Success!!! Flashing from a 3rd (more powerful) PC, went without a hitch and I'm now up and running.
My observations for what they're worth:
1. As noted by "FreyBerry", when running the Upgrade Utility from a PC using an ActiveSync connection to the phone, the connection gets dropped when the phone goes into bootloader mode and the PC is supposed to detect the phone as a USB device and reconnect - loading the appropriate driver. If driver and/or connection fails to load quickly enough the Utility times-out and you get the error message.
2. Though my USB cable may have been my problem, it seemed to work flawlessly on the 3rd PC. So other possibilites could be:
3. On the 1st attempt, running WinXP as a virtual machine inside an iMac, the USB-device re-connection doesn't happen fast enough as the Mac and PC inside the Mac arm-wrestle over which OS will pickup the connection.
4. On the 2nd attempt, using my office PC, our network/virus protocols/firewall or simply the aging PC may have been too slow or obstructed in reconnecting.
If the problem re-occurs I'll be opting for the SD-Card Flash method you suggested.
Many thanks for all the help ... I can already feel my pulled-out hair re-growing. Cheers.
Windows 7 seems to be the problem. I have the same problem if I want to upgrade the ROM on Windows 7, not on Windows XP.

I never succeeded in flashing from a virtual machine on OS X.
@wereldbol No, it should work fine with Windows 7, both 32bit and 64bit.
Just last week I flashed a rom on a Vista x86 no problem. Now I've got Windows 7 x64 on a brand new computer and I'm now getting error 266. I don't have the option of using the old computer so I'm lost on what to do. I was already even able to flash HSPL3 to my wife's phone on the Win7 pc and didn't have this kind of trouble. But now I can't install a rom.
The device drivers installed. If anyone has any help. It would be much appreciated.

Installed MAGLDR.......

Hi guys,
I have a international HTC HD2 win6.5.
I have installed MAGLDR using these 2 post..........
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-boot-android-from-sd-card-of-htc-hd2-with-magldr/
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/what-is-magldr-and-how-to-install-and-use-it-on-htc-hd2/
When I boot up now it goes to the MAGLDR bootscreen; how do I make it boot to Windows 6.5?
I believe you don't, it wipes your nand memory so you can then either flash Android or WP7 to the internal memory.
OMG! I didn't know that, I thought it was another version of harret; booting up into harret instead of win6.5..........
hmmmmmm.............is there a win6.5 or win7 I can burn into NAND?

no.
you can have 6.5 with android on sd or wp7 with android on sd or nandroid. no dual-nand.
Thanks!
I would like to have original Win6.5 that comes with HTC HD2, is it available here?
Look at posts in Windows Mobile 6.5 ROM Development section. Especially http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713977

I have just flashed Windows 7 into my NAND, and I want to revert back to Win6.5; How can I installed energy rom?

did you do like ANY research or are you just doing something without knowing what the hell you are doing??
in the first place if you thought you could install MAGLDR and still have WinMo in your first place you probably didn't read anything
and concerning flashing that WinMo ROM back on your phone you might want to try and hit that search button because i've seen it hundreds of times explained exactly how to do it...
no progress.........
not sure what to do now...........the UI interface from MIUI current version is not what I am after
[ Before ]
- Official Win6.5 ROM + MIUI SD ROM from (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969661)
- but then he said he not support SD anymore
- so I thought of moving to MIUI on my phone
[ Now ]
- with MIUI directly, I find that I can't access my SD from PC
- UI not nice.......
I feel like moving to Win6.5 + MIUI on SD, I find that with these configuration, I can access everything via activesync, if I didn't like a particular Android on SD, I just remove it from SD and restore it easily............

didn't work; the 3 colored screen just sits there on serial.......
4) Uninstallation
Only way to remove the HSPL is to flash an original SPL from SD card.
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
from this:
http://www.jayceooi.com/2011/01/01/how-to-upgrade-htc-hd2-rom-through-sd-card-video/
20. You should get ‘Red, Green, Blue and White’ screen with SPL-2.08.HSPL.
21. Let go volume down button when you see ‘loading…’.
22. Then ROM upgrade screen will be loaded.
I don't get to "21"...........it just sits on "Serial"............
Oh! Stupid me!
I am able to flashed to official ROM now;
[ STR ]
- connect USB
- restart phone and hold down "power" + "volume down"
- the boot menu should change to USB
- and wait for computer to install proper drivers for it
- THEN!! run RUU_Leo_S_hTC_Asia_WWE_3.14.707.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship.exe
I know the problem now, it's because I didn't wait for the computer to finish installing the drivers to communicate with phone

I my opinion, you should not connect the USB cable befor be in tri-color-screen.
1.) power on the hd2 and go into the tri-color-screen, by hold pressing 'power off' button. There have to appear "serial"
2.) connect the usb cable with the hd2 and the pc
3.) windows show notify, that there is a new (unknown) device
4.) if the driver install fails, you should look for windows updates. the may requiered update is hidden at 'optional updates'. select this and install it.
5.) disconnect and connect the connection between hd2 and pc
If this does not work, you could try to install the 'htc sync' which is used for android. But I´m not sure, if this should help ...
If you are using an 64-Bit windows 7, the driver works in the attachment works fine
Alternatively use the drivers form this post:

1. Download the file from the thread
2. Extract the file on your desktop and you will get a folder with the same name
3. Copy this folder with WinMo explorer to anywhere on your SD Card
4. Go to the folder where you copied this folder and open/tap on it.
5. You will see a folder called MIUI
6. Copy/Cut this folder by using menu - manage - copy, etc
7. Go to the root of your SD card and paste it there.
8. Open WinMo explorer and go to storage card\ics
9. Press clrcad (nothing happens) and thereafter on Haret
10. Android will be booted on your device. Let it boot and after that reboot 3 times to give it the opportunity to build all the extra folders on your SD Card you need.
Hope this helps

You need Windows Mobile Device Centre (or ActiveSync, depending whether you're on XP or Win7). You'd also need to have HSPL installed in order to be able to update your radio.
You know what, since you're a real noob , just download an official winmo rom (must be latest version 3.14) and follow the instructions, and it will automatically install the latest radio. (I think you'd need WMDC or ActiveSync here as well.)

Windows mobile device center is software not Operating system, do googling a little from where and which version is for you.
Also you can try to install htc sync software if windows mobile device center doesn't help.
You are installing this so that your device can be recognised from pc when you are in bootloader.
Hd2 forum section have alot guides post.
You need to start using search button and reading posts on hd2 forum whole or under android section.
Why im saying this... When you start using hd2 in new way like flashing new radio or hspl.
Yoully be constantly confused what happens with your hd2 or how to do something which allready written multiple times on forum.
And lets not forget if you dont know what are you doing, you can screw up your phone.
There isnt easy solution except searching hd2 forum reading and reading.
As posted above, searching and reading will inevitably let you find all of the answers you're looking for. Also, when a guide says install x, y or z and lists it as a compulsory step, don't question it. Just do it. It will seriously save you a tonne of effort (as will using the search button) in the future.

[Q] help!!!!!! flashed a windows phone 7 rom and now I can't get back to stock

I flashed this phone to WP7 and it works fine but can't access market even after activation code. I have tried to flashe back using the sd card method but device not recognising sd cards also phone does not allow me to use windows activesync anymore so cannot do it that way either im basically stuck with a phone that does not work 100% any help will be greatly appreciated
you must change sdcard and find one which work (you must reflash or hard reset when insert new card).... HD2 dont have enough memory for WP7 and must use SDcard for this... but major problem is find good and compatible sdcard
for activation you must ask Microsoft support for live activation code for HTC HD7....
for this and others read install tutorial from my signature
I have done all that but still nothing. Every tutorial I see they are saying when usb plugged in then activesync should work but im getting nothing and I can't think of what else to do. So far my phone is done now I get no mobile data either just wifi I can't access facebook unless using browser. I was looking forward to using this phone but now its pretty useless
Which Windows you have on PC??? if you have XP then you must have ActiveSync... for Windows 7 and 8 you must have WMDC (windows mobile device center)

i never have any problems with sync on my (old) HD2... maybe some problem on your device or drivers
Check in Device Manager if anything shows up or needs drivers.
Does the device show "Serial" in bootloader when connected?
Turn on the phone into magldr and then use the usb mass storage option. It should allow full access to your microSD card and let you backup any files from there. Then format the card (FAT32, 4096 allocation size) and you should be able to reflash stock now.
