goldcard - Hero CDMA General

I followed the goldcard instructions in the GSM hero forum, and I think i have a goldcard.. is this used on our phones? or how can I see if it worked

Dont believe that can be used on the CDMA version... Could be wrong though

i would strongly sugest not dicking round with that whole thing unless you know kind of what you are doing, or you read up more on the topic.
The goldcard is used to bypass a check the recovery software uses to make sure a specific update is for your phone and carrier. This allows people that bought the asian hero to put the software that was made for the uk on it.
The version that is for the uk has a exploit in it that allows root access, the asian version does not. We tried this on the CDMA version and it doesn't bypass the hardware version check in the recovery software.
The GSM version doesn't have a problem cause they are all the hero100 model, we have the hero200, so it won't work.
I don't want to steer you away from tinkering, but at least read up on the subject more before you do so. Expecially when it comes to stuff like this that could damage your phone.
hope this helps
Grant

well nothing broke when I did it.. I still can't flash anything but the phone boots up and operates fine. I just don't see too much activity in terms of rooting, so I was just trying out mothods on the other phones

-please note which version of RUU you used in your method. Page/file link if possible.
-please also note what SD card you used brand & capacity, also link to procedure you yourself used to create the goldcard.
I have been unsuccessful as many others of us have been and are eager to hear your reply on this as you are the only recorded success story.
I'll be more than glad to help you once I find out the info above in terms of next steps to take to get you rooted.
Thanks,

well I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
that guide, but I used QMAT version 4.30 instead of 5.06 (the site was down when I tried to use it)
I have a 8gig sandisk sdhc card

all the qmat is used for in that guide is reverseing your card's cid code. This can be done manually by typeing in your number backwards but qmat does make it simpler.
ok so assuming your goldcard is functioning you would attempt to flash a RUU from a different carrier in the step listed below
20. Use the Official HTC RUU to downgrade to 2.73.405.5 (
ftp://xda:[email protected]_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
) from which you can fastboot boot and/or root your phone with flashrec.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559613
now this step is where most of us have failed, it says incorrect hardware ID when you try to flash because we have hero200 as the hardware reports to hboot/recovery image. The goldcard was to my belief just to bypass the cid check not the hardware ID check.
I was under the assumption that you were able to flash this RUU. So I'm taking it that I was confused and you are in with the rest of us.

yea i think he is unable to flash, so its back to square one...

Unlocking a Cingular 8525 to use on T-Mobile

Hey guys, first post! I google'd "How to unlock 8525" and I am overwhelmed by everything that's on it. Can someone give me some clear answers on how to unlock the Cingular branded 8525, so I may use it on my T-Mobile network? Sorry if the answer is obvious, but I've read so much stuff that I'm a bit confused. Thanks in advance guys!
First make a note of your radio rom - settings>system>device info.
Then use this to unlock your Hermes (You'll need to read a bit too...) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665
THEN Hard SPL your phone (use ver7. After you finish your SPL will be 2.10 olipro) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
I like to use the sd card method of flashing this as its safer and you don't get sync errors like the pc. Also no little "accidents" to brick your nice new, EXPENSIVE toy... Look on page 116, post 1160 for instructions and needed apps...
You can then put a new radio rom or whatever OS you like on it... I use the sd card method here too BUT just leave out steps 5 & 6 from the sd card method for installing Hard SPL (don't need sspl.exe).
Cheers...
And Welcome.....
Thanks for all that What OS and radio choices do I have though? What are the pro's and con's of each? Thanks in advance!
Radio roms are area and carrier specific. Thats why I said to make sure you know what your old one is. Unlocking your phone will downgrade your radio to 1.16.xx.xx This is neede to unlock your phone.
Flashing the radio is RISKY. If something gos wrong then 9 times out of 10 you have a brick, and the 10th time you have divine intervention to get it going again... Its best to find a good radio rom and don't flash again unless you know its gonna be better...
As for OS roms, go to the Hermes WM06 forum. There are plenty of roms there that are cooked by our brilliant chefs.. I believe there is a post at the top showing you some of the later ones. DON'T bother asking whats best though because a rom choice is a personal preference... What I like and what you like may be 2 VERY different things...
Make sure you have Hard SPL ver 7 installed and (especially for the radio rom where you DON'T want any interruptions) use the sd card method.
As Wam7's quote says - Flashing your ROM without HARDSPL is like going to a South African brothel without any condoms...
and not flashing with a MicroSD Card is like walking into a prison, dropping your pants and yelling "come and get it boys!" jdc
Cheers...
Thanks I saw a picture that showed the processors mhz, and it seemed to let you downclock it, where can I get that? Also, what are some useful programs and such to have?
Hi, here's some great info reference by veyka for U:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419158
Well...
I'll be honest with you. I had this little dilemma not too long ago and discovered that unless you want to pay close to $50.00 to get it unlocked from one of those unlocker sites, you MUST request from AT&T to process your subsidy unlock code. Almost all wireless carriers that sell phones with their branded name on the device or on the splash screen are locked to that specific carrier, for marketing or whatever the company desires. You must obtain your IMEI number, (just enter *#06# on your keypad) call AT&T customer service, request a subsidy unlock code, (just tell them you plan on using the device overseas and are not interested in their overseas calling plan they will then try to sell you) and wait about 1-2 weeks for an email reply. Trust me when I say this, AT&T has NO IDEA what the code is or what the status is once they have submitted the request. It is transferred to their "Tier III" tech support division, which is why it takes so long to respond. Just wait it out, and your patience will pay off when you receive the email. I'm sure you know that once you get the unlock code, all you must do then is insert a SIM from any carrier other than AT&T, reboot, and your hermes will prompt you to enter subsidy unlock code. It is usually either an 8 or 9 digit code. Be careful when entering, as too many wrong attempts will "Brick" your device. It is then you will be able to use T-mobile's service. I also had my number ported to T-mobile's network...All you have to do for that is ask T-mobile(Don't tell AT&T) to port your number for you and ther's not a damn thing AT&T can do about it. Now. As far as ROM flashing is concerned, I had to learn by thumbing through the wiki, anf forums and making many posts like yourself. First, as described by ultramag, you MUST install HardSPLv7 on your phone. once that's done and you have verified via your bootloader screen (pwr+ok+reset sw) It should say something along the lines of HERM100 IPL-1.04/HERM100 SPL-2.10.Olipro-----> Then you can start looking at flashing ROMs. Don't worry about flashing Radio ROM, that's not necessary. Any questions, send me a msg.... Good luck flashing!!!
Thank you, both the Sim unlock and Hard SPL thingy went well. At least the process of downloading and executing the programs. Both processes stated successfull completions once I figured how to to run them properly. 1 attempt on unlock, and I didn't quite understand the instructions the first time through on Hard SPL, but the 2nd time one the on-screen popped on the device it was simple enough.
Once I test with my sim card later today I'll give the total thumbs up, but so far so good before I go "ROM shopping".
Oh and its a Cingular 8525 that I'll be using on T-Mobile (Herm100)
Just make sure when you Hard SPL your Hermes the SPL is changed to 2.10 oli.
You need to use Hard SPL V7. Its the latest and safest version.
If you unlocked your Hermes then you might be using an older, not so safe version of Hard SPL which may not help you to unbrick your Hermes if, god forbid, anything goes wrong with the flash.
Just a piece of advice..
Cheers...
How can I tell it's unlocked?
I have both an 8525 and a Tilt. I "unlocked" the 8525 using a program I downloaded from here, and the Tilt using the modified radio rom approach.
I took the 8525 to a T-Mobile store, and when we put the new sim chip in, it wouldn't work, it wanted an unlock code. I haven't tried the Tilt yet and before I do (The clerk at the store hinted that she thought I was a crook of some sort for having an unlocked phone with the Cingular logo on it) I would like to be SURE it's unlocked.
Is there some kind of test I can perform, or a registry key I can check or something to verify the unlock really worked? The program I ran to unlock the 8525 (Herm_Unlock_v3) gave no errors and stated that "Device SIM/Network lock removed!" - but obviously it wasn't.
So, how can I check before I go back to the store, that the devices are really unlocked?

I'm having the same problem, but it has nothing to do with the fact you have a 32B board. My last MT3G was a 32B, rooted with ease. However, T-mobile just sent me a replacement under warranty. Still a 32B, but with a different SPL. Its a perfected SPL 1.33.0007. I have not been able to root this yet and I've tried every method possible. The goldcard method is supposed to be the only way to root this as of right now, but it didn't work for me. I tried multiple SD cards and converted them to goldcards. I tried multiple SAPPimg files. Both zip and nbh files. No go. Some have claimed to have rooted this SPL but never seem to give much information as to how they did it, which makes me wonder. Anyway, check your SPL, post your specs on here and I'll let you know what can be done.
I have rooted that spl

Holy hell... a lot of work

Alright, I have an HTC Magic which essentially acts as my backup phone since I have a Desire. I figured I would try my hand out at flashing a rom on the Magic. Am I missing something, because it seems like a LOT of work. For something that people make out to be so simple, it sure is a pain. Every step I take, I run into issues. At this point I need to:
- Make a Goldcard. (Actually done, I think...?)
- "Fix" my SPL as it's "perfected.
- Update the Radio since the "fix" will apparently mess it up.
- Update the recovery using a customer recovery image.
- Then maybe flash a ROM to it and hope it works.
Am I missing something...or is this WAY more work then people make it out to be. Looking through the forums before starting this... people made it seem like all you had to do was make a Goldcare, copy the rom .zip to it, and use the fastboot method to flash it. I have flashed ROMs on WinMo several times, and it's never been nearly this much run around...even when things mess up. I thought doing this on Android was easier then on WinMo...
So... am I missing something? Is there an easier way that doesn't involve all this run around? Even so, hopefully I have almost everything I need at this point. Is there anything else I am going to run into that is going to cause a need for even MORE work? Any tips here? Thanks.
UPDATE: On trying to flash the SPL "fix" it goes through the installation then tells me that the CID is incorrect. I have tried it 4 or 5 times, using two different cards. It shouldn't be wrong. Any help? Don't understand why it keeps telling me the CID is incorrect. I have noticed though, for some reason, every time I restart the Magic, it gives me a different number when trying to get the CID. Is there a way to bypass this? Have been trying for 4 hours and have gotten no where at all...

I guess that I should be moving this to General since this is a Q&A and not a means to simplify what you are trying to accomplish.
Moving to:

Wow, do I know how you feel.... I recently got a Vibrant (galaxy s). So sine I got a new phone I unrooted my MT3g and sent it in on warranty since it was kinda scratched, so I can give it to my wife. Well with my first phone I was able to do the on click root since it came originally loaded with cupcake.... Well as it turns out if it comes pre loaded with donut you can't downgrade any more...lol So I had to do the gold card method.....it sucked.....
I can't even get stuff to work with the Goldcard. It keeps telling me the CID is incorrect... which it may be, since it gives me a new number every time I restart the damned thing. It can't be this hard to root all Android devices I hope... this is just ridiculous.

No, its not.... A good example is to root the vibrant you just flash a update.zip file...lol. But the sapphire/magic/mytouch is a great phone with allot of development support. But from what I understand one of the hardest roots..
Well that sucks. Kinda wanted to see how Froyo would run on it, and wanted to get a feel of how it was done before attempting it on the Desire. How did you manage to get the thing flashed?

the CID error tells me your gold card creation failed.
Check the process description at theunlockr.com. that worked for me.
My first mistake was formatting FAT and NOT FAT32. It must be formatted FAT32.
I used a 2GB PNY and it works great.
yes, our phone (the sapphire, magic, MT3G, whatever the carrier calls it) is one of the craziest to root. I have the 1.2 version that came out after the fender, so by default i need to do the goldcard method. I made the goldcard, but then my daughter dropped my phone, and i had to get it replaced, someone is currently borrowing my card reader, so i have to wait to root the new one.
one step from reading the forums that alot of people miss, is replacing the first two digits of the "gold card id" to 00.. you have to do this, or the thing wont work. at least if you're having issues on the gold card step you're not close enough to the steps that can BRICK your phone...
all i can say is make sure you follow the directions STEP BY STEP, i've seen a number of people who flash the wrong image first and it totally bricks the phone. in my case that would suck, as being on the non-contract plan, i get no discount for new phones.
hope that helps a little.
Yes, the zeros are critical but as I recall theunlockr link above (paste and cut) takes care of that for you. The gold card is the hard part to get right.. The rest is very straightforward.
Thanks for the input guys. Going to try a few more things.
Alright. Following the instructions. Step by step, I am still getting "CID Incorrect! Update Fail!"
This is very frustrating as there isn't any reason it shouldn't be working...

Not to thread jack, you know you can use any GoldCard with any phone, as long as it was made properly.
Any ideas on why this one isn't working then? Saying "Incorrect CID" when I try to flash anything with it.
Not sure. I know it took me 3 tries to get mine working right.

[Q] Desperate for some advice: cant update OTA or with update.zip

Hi
I've been hammering at this problem for weeks now and its really frustrating. I'm hoping someone can help me out here.
I cant get my phone to update to Froyo. I'm dying to see if the update wil fix my missing wifi issue that I picked up with the last update.
Currently I'm at:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 47.26.35.04u_7.05.35.26L
Kernel version: 2.6.v29-e3993620 htc-kernel(at)and18-2 #1
Build number: 2.06.709.3 CL193617 release-keys
Software number 2.06.709.3
The phone is unbranded, bought in China. I'm not sure if it was tampered with.
My phone picks up the OTA update:
OTA_Legend_Froyo_s_hTC_Asia_TW_3.15.709.3-2.06.709.3_release_160364d6o5a2er5k3kbifl
this fails on install, red triangle at about 25%
Tried doing it manually:
renamed above file to update.zip and copied to root of SD card
In HBOOT there is an error something about "legedimg" missing flashes up
Selecting recovery mode gets me a red triangle
pressed (power+vol up)
gets me into system recovery, there is a warning at the bottom "Can't open >cache >recovery>command
selected apply sdcard:update.zip, it works for a little while
get a bunch of stuff about "ro.cid" and and finally "HTC__621". "error in >sdcard >update.zip" (status 7)
Also fails.
Can anyone tell me what's going on here? HTC support has been useless. I'm now really stumped. Do I need a goldcard?
Hi! Yes, you need a goldcard because of the different CID you have and the update.
You may look for an update for your CID.
Why not root it while you're at it?
Thanks!
What is a CID? Is this not the correct update for my phone?
Are you suggesting that if I find the correct update I wont need goldcard or root?Where might I look for an update that matches my CID?
Since I'm on a mac, and dont have easy access to a PC rooting and goldcarding is a bit of a pain...
CID is Carrier ID, a number that locks your phone to carrier-specific firmware...
And yes, you need an update for your CID, then you don't need GC...
thanks. so do I have this straight:
1. My phone is locked to take only carrier specific firmware (even though its not actually sim-locked since I can use any sim I want) Sooo... "debranding" wont actually help
2. an update with the correct CID would work - though I dont know which one I need.
3. a goldcard would let me install the latest update via update.zip despite the CID issue
When I spoke to HTC support they said something about my phone originally belonging to Vodafone Germany. It was strange since I definitely have the chinese version loaded. I could try loading the vodafone germany update but then wont my phone become sim-locked again?
Am I getting this right? Thanks you have been a great help!
1. SIM lock and CID lock are two different things...
2. Yes, if the HTC said Voda Germandy, they're probably right...I presume you have purchased it from someone who used it before?
3. Of this I'm not sure, but It wil definitely help you root your Phone...
If you don't want to root, you can try to find an RUU upgrade - that's and app that will upgrade your phone from PC - try www.shipped-roms.com. But again, you need one that matches your CID.
edit: If you flash the RUU, rooting will be harder

Eemm, no. It was "new". They probably did something dodgy to keep the price down. Somehow, despite the CID issue, they were able to install the chinese firmware. It doesn't make much sense.

As far as I can see the latest for Vodafone Germany is "RUU_Legend_Vodafone_AT_GER_Mobilkom_1.31.177.3_Radio_47.26.35.04_7.05.35.26L_release_126862_signed.exe"
I dont think this is actually Froyo?
That might mean that a goldcard is the only option. I take it the goldcard would essentially allow me to bypass the CID check and install whatever update I wanted?
I tried to install the latest vodafone version via update.zip on the SDcard, no luck, "assert failed"... status 7...
Sorted!
Well, I managed to sort mine out and upgrade to Froyo. And I got my WIFI back too!
Very simple...
1. Create Goldcard: Droid Den - Android Guide: How To Create a Gold Card
2. Install RUU (Legend Froyo WWE): Index of /shipped/Legend/
Worked a treat and was actually very simple using the goldcard helper app they recommend on that post. You need access to PC.
I tried updating using update.zip through recovery but that didnt work.
Phone is now working 100%.
I suppose issues might come up when I try to update next time OTA (if there is another OTA for legend), but worse case scenario I will have to use another RUU.
glad it worked out for you... can't imagine going trhough the stress
that's why im waiting for the Official OTA
Good it worked
@Qksi1ver: why are you waiting for OTA?If you root now, you have a shot at S-OFF, If you update your HBOOT, you wont be able to S-OFF...just sayin...

[Q] HTC Legend Unroot Problem (Warranty Purposes)

Before I get started, I have already tried whitetigerdk's guide. It didn't work, I keep getting update fail. I have also tried the Unlockr.com's guide. Didn't work.
I have also tried a bunch of different ways, like flashing a rom, or trying to get my nandroid.md5 backup to work, I just keep getting errors. I'm sure I've tried a couple other ways, and maybe a mix of two ways but nothing has worked so far, and I'm out of ideas. I'm 0 for like.. 8. EDIT: I've also tried using the clockwork recovery by flashing update.zip, does everything and seems like its back to stock, but I check phone info and it's still Rodriguez Style.
So here's the deal. My HTC Legend is running off of.. the Rodriguez Style with vivid sense rom, and just recently (couple days ago) a strip, up and down my screen, does not react to touch. Tried restarting, cleaning, whatever, it's ****ed. So then I knew I wanted to bring it in for warranty but i need to get the orginal rom back on, like how it was when I opened up the box.
I'm sure I need some more detail, so let me know and I'll provide all the info I can.
I appreciate the help! Thanks
Tynan
That error I got for the RUU's was this "ERROR [130]: MODEL ID ERROR" when I used the LEGEIMG.zip way, I also got model Id error
I'm not exactly an expert, but when I had to unroot my Legend, I've used RUU_Legend_Froyo_S_HTC_WWE_3.15.405.3_Radio_47.51.35.17_7.13.35.05_release_160328_signed from shipped-roms. Just plugged my Legend, ran the installer and all done.

OMG!!!!! I have the exact same problem on my legend. The vertical line region of the "C" key does not respond any more
Im sending my legend for repair tomorow
I had to un-root and return to stock too. Heres how i did it:
Download HTC sync and install
Go here and download your RUU shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Legend
Then, connect phone with usb debugging enabled and run the RUU
DONE!!!!!
Hey thanks guys but I've actually tried three different RUU's .
I've tried your froyo one, a 1.23 whatever, then one that was the exact same build number 1.31.xxx.4 or whatever, and non worked. I followed the instructions exactly but I get that error that I posted above!
I have no idea what to do, I've tried so many different ways..
And oh yeah, the vertical strip doesn't let me hit e, d, or x.. and I use e in every text at least 173509712365092 times aha...
Hm...have you tried with a goldcard? If not, make yourself one, then copy LEGEIMG.zip on it and run the bootloader.
You can also try the RUU with the goldcard inserted if LEGEIMG fails.
Both failed, I have had the goldcard in, tried LEGEIMG on bootload or w/e, and it loads the progress bar all the way then says Model Image incorrect or something.. and same with the RUU.. I've tried soo many ways .
EDIT: I've tried using other sd cards (not goldcarded) with LEGEIMG with no luck. Should I try making a new goldcard?
EDIT 2: Nevermind.. a) My other sd's dont work and even if I found one, the goldcard code/hex generator (or whatever) is down.
I don't know where I got it, it was probably some rooting/debranding guide here on XDA, but there's a GoldCardTool.exe goldcard maker that you just fill in the info and it makes the goldcard for you.
Thinking more deeply, that tool was for download somewhere on some HTC Hero dev site, and applies to all Android phones.

Thanks man, i found it and converted two cards to gold cards, then tried putting LEGEIMG on the card and doing the volumedown + pwr, but no luck, worse than my original gold card.. tried the RUU's again, and same error, 130 model error.
Think all the ways are spent.. my phones just apparently the devil phone..

Did the two sdcard you converted into a GC were from different manufacturers?
I had problems with RUU installation (had sandisk microsd as GC), but when I made a kingstone microsd GC - it worked (and no, it's not an indirect advertising )

Yup, one is SanDisk 2GB, then ones a no name sd, and the other is something different. None are kingston tho.. but like I said I swear my phone is the devil phone...
I'm thinking about trying to get the warranty if its rooted anyway (I have warranty with Virgin and Wireless Wave) so idk.. and if not.. I'm just gunna buy the Incredible on a 3 year contract aha..
Please tell me,if you made a goldcard, flashed, and then formated it again to use normally with the phone, does it still remain a goldcard?

Pretty sure once a goldcard, always a goldcard. But yeah I guess what I'm left with now is that I should try to bring it in for warranty, just don't tell em it's rooted and see what happens? Idk.
I should reformulate my question, i had a rooted phone with costume rom,but then went back to stock and updated to android 2.2 build 3.15,(the device is not branded)basically what you are saying,i can skip the goldcards process and proceed with rooting my phone?(mind you the previous owner of the phone had done the rooting and i have absolutley no xp in that stuff)
Thanks in advance!

Ohhhhhhhhh, ok. The reason you were able to have a root done without a goldcard is because your phone is debranded, I've read that if your phone is debranded you do not need a goldcard!
Did you even search? I have made a thread in development on easiest way to unroot the Legend..

Before I get started, I have already tried whitetigerdk's guide. It didn't work, I keep getting update fail. I have also tried the Unlockr.com's guide. Didn't work.

Yeah.. I did search. Did you even read my post? I ask for help on forums as a last resort aha.
EDIT: It was either update fail, or model ID fail
I have the same problem with a Legend I got with Bell. I tried all the RUU in version 1.31 on the Shipped Rom website and always got the error 130. Just for fun I tried the one from bell mobility (version 2.02) and that one worked perfectly.
