Keyboard issue - Imagio General

Hey all,
I use the phone-pad keyboard and I'm having an issue where when I receive a text when a text window is already open, it will start to type numbers instead of letters in the text box. Is anyone else having this issue? I've tried a hard reset but it seems to be happening everytime regardless. I did have a touch pro 2 prior to the Imagio and that phone didn't have this issue.
Thanks in advance,
-Kevin

Text Message Contact Choosing

I have just upgraded to the new official WM 6.1 ROM, and have noticed that before, when I would type a new text message and begin typing in the name of one of my contacts in the "To:" box, their name and number would come up so i could just choose it without having to type out their full name. Now I can not do that anymore, I am not sure if it is after installing the touch (original not diamond) keyboard because i never tried text messaging before installing it. Is there a way to get this feature back, because it is much easier than having to click menu add recipient.
Also, for the touch keyboard, is there a way to choose the full qwerty keyboard always, because whenever i try to make a new text message, I can only get the phone pad like keyboard (three letters per block) or the qwerty with two letters per block, is there a way to always get the full qwerty?

It has been my experience that this is due to the Touch Keyboard. I had that same problem, along with characters not typing correctly when I used the hardware keyboard, that made me un-install it from my Sprint Mogul.
Also, it is a known problem with the Touch Keyboard that it will not let you select the full QWERTY keyboard. I know there is a fix for it by using an altered Touch Keyboard, but when I tried the altered one it also had the same problems as the original, so I un-installed that one as well. My advice to you would be to un-install the Touch Keyboard and use something else like PCM Keyboard, that is the one I use most.
Another thing, it might take quite a long time for the Touch Keyboard to un-install. I know I had to leave my phone sit for about 10-15 minutes with the wait cursor spinning around in the Remove Programs setting before it finally was deleted.
I hope this helps!
its not a keyboard problem thats how 6.1 is my phone does the same thing regardless of what keyboard im using
it seems to be a problem with the touch keypad, as after uninstalling it, I am able to select my contacts for a text message as soon as I begin typing their name. Thanks for the help.

HTC SIPs stuck on numeric input?

Hi all,
I'm having a problem with the HTC SIPs (Full Qwerty and Compact Qwerty) - they're both stuck on numeric input and won't switch back to text input mode.
ie, I click on the "ABC" button and nothing happens. I therefore can't enter anything other than numbers and symbols!
Has anyone else seen this issue? I'm having to use PCM Keyboard in the meantime, which is frustrating as it doesn't have easy access to "." etc.
Thanks
J
PCM Keyboard prevents the HTC SIPs from working properly. Either remove PCK Keyboard or try the latest version (0.19)
I have the same problem
I have the same problem.
I haven't installed any additional keyboard software, and suddenly my text keyboard is stuck on numerics.
I have a feeling this may have been something to do with the latest firmware from HTC that I've recently installed.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Pete

Do you have HD Tweak installed?
this will happen if you enable T9
Sorted
Yep, that was it
Sorted - Thankyouverymuchsir
okay so I too now have this same problem, originally I had Dutty's Leo R6 on my phone with HDTweak so I decided to reflash my phone with Dutty's Leo R7 and this time not install HDTweak and see if it works.... But even after doing that, I still keep getting all 3 types of the keyboard inputs stuck on numbers and symbols. after a soft reset whenever I try and type in a text, the first time it usually works fine. But after I have sent the 1st message or just returned to the home tab and try to write another msg, all input keyboards are stuck. Note: I can temporarily fix it by clicking on a previous message, waiting for the menu to popup from the threaded view and then closing it, but after writing that message it will revert back to being stuck
So no HDTweak installed, using new HTC Messaging App, have turned off T9 Autocompletion + Symbol Lock under Input Options and I have also tried installing geniusgeng's cab here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=486187&highlight=[solution]+qwerty+keyboard but that doesn't work...any thoughts on how I can fix this with something more permanent?
Thanks
Not sure of any reg tweaks, but why don't you install HD Tweak and then disable T9
Hey, thanks for the amazingly fast reply!!!
okay so I just tried reinstalling HDTweak again and disabling T9, but its still not working I keep having the same trouble. I have also tried all different combinations of disabling T9 only in HDTweak, or both HDTweak and under Input Options and only in Input Options and so on.... but the problem doesn't seem to get resolved.
I have experimented some more and it turns out that the keyboard will only get stuck when I go to the messages tab and click on a text I received to reply to it. If i go to the messages tab and create a new message (where I have to enter in the contact and can't see the threaded msgs) then the keyboard is fine all the time. Does anyone else have this same problem as well, or is it just me?
I would really prefer to be able to quickly reply to texts instead of creating new messages every time...gonna try disabling the htc messaging app (was going to anyway cause it takes waaaay too loooong lol) and see if that magically works
Thanks again!
I had a similar problem and fixed it
I logged on here to see if someone could tell me how to fix my issue, but it is regarding an HTC HD2, not a Blackberry. My problem was similar but not exactly the same. My phone somehow permanently got stuck on Xt9, which I hate and am worthless at using. I couldn't seem to find the answer anywhere online so i'm writing my experience here in case it helps anyone.
Hitting the XT9 / ABC button did NOTHING to fix it. Even though the button would visually change from XT9 to ABC and back, when I hit it (it would change to a green color), the keys themselves would not change at all, and i was stuck looking at keys that make zero sense to me qw... er...ty... ui.... it was like a bad nightmare. I have no idea how I managed to get it stuck on this (sorry I know most of you techies probably have no problem with it but I am just not very tech savvy).
I tried taking out my battery, popping the sim card in and out several times, restarting. Sounds stupid but I didn't know what else to do as I couldn't find any solutions online. Finally called tmobile.
First the rep told me to try going to Settings > Locale and Text > Text Input. She asked what my settings were on, I said ABC. She told me to turn it to XT9 instead, then close out the screen, go back, then switch back to ABC. I did that, and no dice. I figured either the settings are frozen or I'm cursed.
Then she had me go to the screen to write a text msg. When your cursor is in the text box to write in, you will see a little keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen. There's a little arrow next to it. Click on that arrow. That brought up the options of Full QWERTY and Compact QWERTY, and apparently somehow my phone got switched to Compact QWERTY. So I switched back, and that fixed it.
So yeah, apparently there are a couple of different ways to change it.
I wanted to hug this woman through the phone, i was so relieved to be able to text again (I could not write out one single word while on Compact QWERTY). I'm not sure if going this route can help anyone else but it was the answer for me. There may be other options for you when you click on the arrow next to the keyboard.
Good luck!

SMS Problem

Hi,
Has anyone else had this problem. 8 times out of 10 when I goto send an SMS and the input is set to Phone Keypad it defaults to entering numbers. It's as if a numlock is on and I cant get it to switch off. The only way I can get text is to switch the input to qwertry.
I had this with the original 1.43 and now again with the 1.48 ROM. I have all the HTC updates applies including the SMS fix.
Can anyone shed any light.
John
Does anyone have any ideas. Surely I'm not the only one with this problem.
Please can anyone help.
John
Of all the SMS problems i have had i haven't seen this one. This may sound silly but are you sure your not clicking the number button 8 times out of 10?
did you install any other keyboard or input method?this is usually the problem.
Hi,
No I'm not hitting the number button by mistake. When I get a text or I goto send one and the input method is set to Phone Keypad it enters numbers in all modes. ie, 12# and ABC every button from 1 - 0 will give a number. It's like a numlock is on.
If I set input to compact qwerty it does the same at times but not as bad. If I set it to full qwerty it works fine.
No other software installed. Stock HTC 1.48 ROM.
John
Have you thought about giving another keyboard a go like FingerKeyboard and Swype (http://www.swypeinc.com/myswype.html) or SlideIt? Not sure what the status is on Swype re finding a copy but SlideIt is very similar.
Let us know how you get on.
Cheers
WB
YES i have the same problem with my HD2 =) and the second problem is that my phone sometimes stops sending the messages(then i must soft reset)
HD2 is FULL of BUGS... well HTC SENSE is full of bugs...
even after all updates htc have given us =) JIPPIIII
HTC's personal beta tester is ME
1.61 and exactly the same problem.
I tend to use Swype now but this problems been around BEFORE I installed Swype so I know Swype isn't the cause.

Keyboard not appearing

Hi,
Ive searched but there are so many sms issues different to my current one.
Every now and then when i try to write a sms, calendar entry or just use the keyboard in general, when you tap on the screen where you can normally type the keyboard does not appear.
My only solution until now is a soft reset but its annoying the crap out of me.
Im sure its one of my programs installed but hard to pinpoint as its so irregular.
Using keyboards Swype, Touchpal and SlideIT.
There is no pattern, happens regardless of what keyboard i decide to use.
Stock 1.48 rom, any ideas.
Has this happened to anyone else.

Possible keyboard bug?

Over the last few days i've had what appears to be a keyboard input bug occur twice.
The first time it happened was in messaging and the second time in the browser.
What happens is I end up with a couple of characters in the text that cant be edited or deleted. They can't be selected and if I try and delete them it just deletes the characters behind. The only way to get around it is to exit input field and start again.
Has anyone had anything similar? By the way i'm using Swype if that makes a difference?
