Contact Tab from Manila 2.5 in Manila 2.1 - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hi everyone,
Is there any chance to get the contact (people) tab from sense 2.5 in sense 2.1. I think the picture contacts are much more useable than scrolling through the 3d contacts (although it looks very nice).
I searched the forum and only found the old 15-Tabs extension (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2954955&postcount=1) for the touch HD which enables to have the favorite contacts list as main touchflo tab. Has anyone already tried this on the topaz?.
-> Or is there any other touchflo-compatible solution to get picture contacts? (flashing to a custom rom is the last choice)
greetinx,
gordon

I agree, the 2.5 contacts is way more useable than the 2.1 version. Would be nice if somebody could enable this.

I agree some features of 2.5 are better than in 2.1 And as it seems we don't get an update. Something I would also like to see in 2.1 is the calendar view and the way new appointments are made in 2.5.

What annoys me about the 2.5 contact screen is I can only seem to add a favourite to call OR message that person. Not both. I have friends that I either call or message all the time.
I would prefer if when I clicked on a favourite it brought up their contact page, where I can call, message, email them etc.

You can do that by clicking on the name underneath the picture rather than the picture itself. this brings up the contact page with all the options for that contact.

You can.
Click on the name, not the picture. If you click on the picture it will automatically bring up the first interaction you had with that contact if you set up as below.
To get your favourite contacts to come up without having to choose phone or text is a bit long winded but can be done.
Firstly do not use add favorite. Instead you have to go All people, select the person you want to add > takes you to their contact card. Edit Contact > More > click on Category tick HTC Favorite.
edit I see [email protected] has beaten me to the first part.

Thanks guys

I would also love this. 2.5 just isn't smooth enough for my liking so I'm back to 2.1 but i really did love the new home screen and contact tab

I want the same thing - 2.5 people tab in 2.1.
Then I was asking this question on other Thread of this forum, they usually tell me, it is an impossible - course it is an 2.5 part and that's it. But, as I understand 2.5 and 2.1 is an program? so it is possible to modify them - the question is how hard it could be. I'm not an programmer or software engineer, so I don't know the answer. But I'm sure, if it were easy, it could have been done already.
My be it is easy to wait, until 2.5 will be more stable and smoother.

there are news??

I would love if we could do this.

I would like it the other way round.. 2.1's contact tab in manilla 2.5
I think it's much better to choose your friend with the slider on the right and have the buttos under his picture where u can choose between SMS, Mail, call Home or call Phone etc. the new contact tab in 2.5 just allows you to choose the type of contact (sms, mail,..) once when you add the contact to your favorites.

i too would prefer it the other way around. i think the slider is really cool and more touchflowy than the pictures just sitting there with no animations.
+ there are more options such as changing the picture of a contact. i hope there is a way to get the contact tabs for each that way both parties are happy.

i would love to get this done. The 2.5 contact grid is much more usefull than the 2.1 one.
Anyone got it??

For for a REALLY easy way to do it. When you are at the contacts tab and click a back to add one. It takes you to your contact list, and then you choose a contact. Now at the screen where it has you choose a number, above it all it states "view contact card", click on that and the deafult action when clicking on your fav contact in the contact tab is opening the contact card.

Back to the original issue on hand, would it be possible to get the contacts tab for Manila 2.5 into Manila 2.1? That would be just great for me...

Yeah I want the 2.5 contacts tab on 2.1. And I want the 2.5 calender too. I guess what I really want is 2.5 to be as smooth as 2.1...

so, anybody have any updates? Is it even remotely possible? If anybody out there has any idea, please let me know. At least I can turn off the light at the end of the tunnel, save some electricity...

On my side, I want Contact tab from 2.1 in 2.5, is it possible ?

Official ROM update
Or you can just install the official ROM with 2.5 for the Topaz.
You can find it here: http://htcpedia.com/soft/htc-topaz-rom.html
I run it also, it runs good!

Send SMS From Contact List

Is there a hack or application that anyone knows that will allow me the option of sending a text to a contact from the Contacts list (instead of having to open the contact, scroll down the numbers etc etc)
So I would be able to press the Menu key and it appear in this list as Send SMS...
Many thanks
It is already there...
I'm using the AKU 2.3 Rom but I can't remember it not being there even in the 1.8 Rom that mine shipped with.
Vijay has a nice tool to do this here:
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJPhoneTools
If that's not what you're after you can always add a line in the Notes section of a contact like this
smsnnn)[email protected]<recipient'sCarrierDoman>
(Carrier Domain example: @mymobile.cingular.com)
with a space and/or line return after it (but no spaces within), and it will show up as a selectable link. When you tap it the SMS app will open with the number you're wanting to text to in the appropriate place.

Thanks for that but neither of those is really what I was hoping for.
I use sms more than phone calls and find it kind of couter intuitive that I can see the contact and dial it from the contacts list, but in order to send a text I have to find the contact open it, scroll down to the SMS number then send the text. What I was really looking for was a way to put an extra entry in the menu list allowing me to "Send SMS to contact" seems a bit silly that I have the option to send a media message but not an sms (given the relative ratios of SMS to MMS that the mobile operators handle) unless it is an attempt by Vodafone to get me to send more non bundled MMS instead of the huge number of bundled SMS that I have.
Whilst I love the functionality of my new handset I really do miss the more object orientated funtionality of my old Sony Ericsson

Missed this post, sorry.
That would be really useful, but I am a bit of a woose and don't want to wreck my phone and Vodafone haven't released the 2.3 ROM (from what I can tell).
I will do a search through the forums and figure out what I have to do to upgrade the ROM and then I'll have to take a gamble on whether I am brave enough to proceed.
Thanks
I s'pose I'm more of the old school, as I use my phone more for calls than text messaging. And in that regard I've been pleasantly surprised to learn how easy it is to do so.
I hope you find a solution, especially given the cost of the device!
I mainly go to inbox, Text Messages, type a few letters of the persons name, and their number pops right in. Am I missing something?

I'm thinking that this option was always there for me. Maybe Vodafone removes it from the list intentionally?
You can always try doing a hard reset (or clear storage) and then stop the vodafone customizations from installing by soft reseting when it says "installing customizations in 3 seconds".

Touch-it 4.4

I have tried to search with no luck. My question is when i installed touchit 4.4 i do not have any of the pop up menu's IE when making a text and i start typing the persons name or a word it never pops up suggestions. With over 200 contacts i would like to have the short option to type in 3 letters or so and select the contact from the actual Sms screen. Another thing is when i goto create new (msg) i dont get the option to do MMS or SMS. Lastly off the top of my head when i am typing words i like the option with suggestions again. Can anybody either point me to the proper settings or registry keys to re-enable these features. Also i noticed when i put touch it on my phone all of my contacts are doubled now ? how can i fix this without manually deleting them all

1. I havent seached for a fix as far as typing input for SMS recipients, I have just gotten use to clicking menu and adding someone from my contacts instead of typing there name.
2. If you put messaging on your today screen, click on the no unread messages bar and it will take you to the messaging center to pick MMS,SMS, email account.
3. I did think the wings OEM text suggestion program was great, Ive gotten use to not using it with 4.4. Tho if you use the virtual keyboard the program is still enabled.
I dont know if any of this will be a fix for you, it is alil info. There might be things you have to get use to not having with Touch, but be glad you have more than 14mb of memory.
Also, for the duplicate contacts, I would just make sure all your numbers are embedded on your sim card, then select all from your contacts and delete them. Open SIM manager from programs, select all from menu and save all to contacts.
Yes true maybe someone can find the registry keys to enable it, Speaking of registry besides the lame attempt at wiki of a good solid registry hack, tweak mod guide does anybody have a better site while i was Out of town visiting over xmas i stumbled accross a site that offered so many registry hacks but i didnt book mark it
Also a few more questions i get really mad that the Wing does not allow lets say .mid .gif etc files in MMS's is there a way to disable automatic file deletion in mms? sorry if this doesnt make much sense just worked 14 hrs.
you can just write your contact's name (or part of their name) and then go to "menu" and click on "check names".
This should be easier than going through your contacts.

typing a name and then going thru menu is more steps than just clicking add recipent and clicking the contact you want.
I dont know any other registry sites.

Is there a way to make another SMS default?

I didn't know where to put this, and i'll try one last time to see if anyone knows how to make SMS chat (the program) default instead of the windows one? I know you could make icontact default for contacts, so Im guessing there probably is SOME way to do this??
If there is not, is there a way to have the windows sms program show ALL texts instead of having to click on "show older" each time? (I have threaded text messaging on)
thank you!!
(i posted this in the wrong forum before I think, which is why I posted it here, not trying to post everywhere, sorry!)
btw I have a Sprint CDMA HTC Diamond (running mighty rom)
er how do you change the title of this? lol
You're in the right place just you might wanna rewrite the title so theres no confusion. Change it to something like "[REQ] New SMS Program" or something like that. And also i'm pretty sure PocketCM can be used to manage your SMS' so.. maybe you should give that a try.
well due to (i dont think you can make this program default on everything on this phone and integrate it completely), I have only one last question, is there a way for windows mobile sms to show ALL the texts at once, or at least alot more (like by scrolling up) instead of having to hit the "older" button and then "newer" everytime?

well, maybe not the right answer but might be close to what you want. go download and install home2 (free). after you got it going, go to their forum "applet showcase", there is a tread about applet store. look for modification for "messaging". donwload and copy over the messaging directory, restart home2 and your all set. a very cool applet and a real cool UI from home2.
can pim backup-backup sms's from another chat program too? When I use sms-chat its good, but when I go into the windows mobile sms it only keeps all the sms's that are sent to me and doesn't have ANY that I sent out USING the sms-chat from vitro.
I stopped using the sms chat b/c of that and b/c I wanted a way to back up all my sms's, so just wondering if it can back up that too?
(and if anyone has found a way to show all texts on windows sms instead of having to "view older" each time?)
thanks!!
if you mean sms-chat is not showing your part or the conversation then this is what you need to do.
1. open default messaging program
2. choose SMS \ MMS
3. choose menu at the bottom right and then tools from there. You will see an options button on the tools tab.. choose that.
4. then choose the message tab on the bottom and make sure there is a check on keep copies of sent items in Sent folder. (If its not select it and sms-chat will now show both you and whoever you are talking and what you both are saying. AKA threaded sms)
Questions are THAT way --> Q&A section
cheers

SMS multiple recipients

I know how to send a text to multiple recipients, but it seems a long winded way of doing it. like selecting one recipient then going back into the contact list and doign it again.
On my Nokia E65 I could just go into my contacts list and put a check next to each name, very handy when sending a text to 30 or so people.
Is there a way to do this on Touch HD?
I face the same prob too... its kinda tiring if we have so many receipients to send to... one by one... even a low end phone can allow user to tick as many contacts at one go.. hope someone have a shortcut for this prob..
yep its a bit of a nightmare having to add contacts one by one.
what you need is something that will "Group" into your SMS composition menu.
something like this....
you can create new groups and add contacts as you see fit. then when it comes to composing the mail, just add the group you want. works really well.
i organise my 5-a-side games using this. dead handy.
This really annoyed me at first but I then found it a lot easier to just begin typing contact names into the To: field, and then using the auto list to select them rather than using the contact list if that helps.

Saves a little time, but if im sending to loads of people i might not remember their name unless i see them on the list first.
Show me the check boxes......
Try MassMessage (just check a box before each name, and send it to everyone you choose in the list) and SMSDRFIX (choose to see the number, the name, both)
can i assigne this mass message to the touchflo interdface so that launches when i click messages as opposed to the standard WM messafing centre.
I can only see it in in the start menu buttons.

In this prog you can only use groups for SMS. I have several categories (subfolders) in Outlook of my employees' e-mails. I'd like to send email to a group, not only SMS.
The other thing that bothers me is that the groups (categories) this program shows do not have complete database. For example, group "employees" has 20 entries, but only 12 show with this prog. Also if I choose "all contacts" it merely shows 10% of all I have. Any fixes? I'm using v1.4.8.

[A] Fix for 'Contact Groups' bug on JI6 based Froyo roms

A number of people, myself included, have mentioned that since installing any JI6 based Captivate Froyo rom, the Contacts 'Group' feature is broken.
Selecting a contact from a group (e.g. 'Family') sometimes opens the correct contact, other times an incorrect contact opens, and sometimes a screen pops up asking us to pick an application from the provided list to be used to open the contact.
When I was trying out some of the I9000 based Froyo roms, I noticed that none of them had this problem. So last night I decided to replace the '/system/app/Contacts.apk' in my JI6 (Cognition 2.2vBETA8.1) with the apk from an I9000 Froyo rom.
With a couple of issues (see RED below), the Contacts 'Group' feature now performs without problem, always correctly opening the correct contact.
I've attached the replacement 'Contacts.apk' file, just BACKUP the original file in your '/system/app/' folder, then swap it with this one, then reboot.
You may find that you need to first 'chmod 666 /system/app/Contact.apk' before you can replace it. Just chmod it back to '644' after replacing.
NOTES:
IF THE AT&T CONTACTS SYNC FEATURE IS IMPORTANT TO YOU, DO NOT USE THIS FIX. THIS IS AN I9000 FILE, IT DOES NOT HAVE THE AT&T SYNC.
If you have any direct dial shortcut on your home screen, you will need to delete and rebuild them after applying this fix.
I found that simply by selecting what groups I want displayed in the contact list fixed all the problems I had.
Contacts > Menu > More > Display Options > Under choose contacts to display, select the dropdown you want to see. I only use Google contacts, so I selected All other contacts and Starred in Android contacts under Google.
Like I said, this fixed everything with wrong contacts being displayed when I tried to call or text the person.

I ONLY use phone contacts, no Google contacts, and no SIM contacts. And this Group bug has vexed me since day one of the leaked Captivate Froyo release, and continued on every Captivate Froyo based rom (e.g. Cognition).

Thanks for catching that DG, I added it to my disclaimer.
This works great; I am running Cognition 2.2 Beta9 and the only real issue I had was this. I have a large number of contacts and depend on groups. Thanks
For anyone having issues you really do need to edit the permissions; otherwise you will run into problems but it may look like the change was made. I used Root Explorer and copied the original Contacts.apk to a backup directory. Then I went back to the system-apps directory and changed the permissions to rwxrwxrwx and copied the new file over the original. Then changed permissions back to rw-r--r--, which is the default setting and restarted the phone. It works perfectly and I can even use all the homescreen shortcuts (Direct Dial); I did have to delete and recreate them though.

If you are just calling the contact you may just want to use direct dial, or direct messaging if only texting. I don't know of any way to change the contact options for a contact shortcut.
