Silicone skin for water resistance? - Touch Pro, Fuze Accessories

Hi,
I was wondering if anybody has ever come across a single piece silicone skin that will fit the Touch Pro. I recently had my phone in my pocket, and got a bit wet, and had problems with the bottom right button until I dried it with a hair dryer.
There seems to be plenty of skins on eBay etc, but they are two part with lots of cut outs, and wouldn't protect the phone from damp conditions. What I'm looking for is a single piece skin with just cut outs for the screen, mic, earpiece and and speaker to protext the phone from the damp as much as possible.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Steve.

Wouldn't a single piece skin make it impossible to slide open?

Yes, which is why I'm probably struggling to find one, but there are plenty of phones without slide-out keyboards that manage ok. If I'm going on a bit of a hike/trek then I'd happily live without the ability to slide the keyboard out for the extra protection.
Cheers,
Steve.

I posted this on another page, if you do a search on Amazon for Touch Pro cases, you will find a LOT of cases. Some I picked up for about .99c. And, I bought about 3 of them which were rubberized cases. The way the case stays on the TP is that it has a joint at the top and bottom of the two pieces of the case.

I've seen the cases on Amazon, and eBay, and the silicon ones seem to come in two pieces, one for the top half and one for the bottom half? I think to offer any protection from moisture, it would be better in a single piece - I'm wondering whether one for the Diamond would fit, although the diamond is about 7mm thinner, so I doubt it.
I guess I'm just out of luck.
Cheers,
Steve.

How do you get as single piece on a device with a slide-out keyboard?

I think you are missing my point. I'm saying that I'm happy to have a case that, while it's on, I'm happy not to be able to slide out the keyboard.
Cheers,
Steve.

Then i'm completely confused as to why you'd want a phone that HAS a slide-out keyboard but you want a case that makes it unusable. Why not just go with a phone that doesn't have a slide-out keyboard?

It's very simple. I have a Phone with a slide out keyboard (which I love - I think it's great, and I wouldn't want to change it for one that doesn't have a keyboard). If I go on a hike where I might get rained on, I'd like to take my phone, but I'd also like to offer it as much protection from the rain/damp as I can. For the duration of the hike, I don't mind not having access to the slide out keyboard, because it has a perfectly functional on-screen keyboard that I can use if I really need to.
I could get a waterproof wallet for it, but I think that's a bit impractical and bulky, so I was wondering whether I could get a one-piece silicone case for it, only to use while out on a hike. That's all.
Cheers,
Steve.

What? I'm being serious. what do you think those "waterproof" bags are for phones?

Check out this one if you haven't already. It's a bit bulky, but you can talk without removing it from the case.

Which one's that - I'm assuming you meant to include a link?
I've plumped for a cheap "disposable" one for now, which looks a bit like a condom - how many times you can use it before you need to dispose of it, I'm not sure.

I have one of these that I use when I go camping. You can use it in the case but it is also easy to get in and out of the case. A bit bulky but I know my phone will not get hurt.

Thanks for the link - I think that case, along with all the other silicone ones I can find specifically for the Touch Pro are split to allow the keyboard to slide out, which won't offer as much protection from moisture as I would like.

That looks like a serious piece of kit, but is a bit expensive and bulky compared to what I was hoping for.

Make no mistake, otterboxes are freakin' huge. HUGE.

Well, you will probably not make your touch pro water resistant with a case...but I'd say this "armor" does make it tough to break.

This is definitely not a good case. It has to flip open to use the keyboard.

Nice. I also emailed Ruben yesterday asking the same question.
Maybe we should use this time to provide this vendor with some input. Request things we would like to see in an Athena case by compiling a list from interested members then send this to Ruben. What do you guys think about the idea?

Great idea.
First request has to be - magnets to hold the keyboard in the case, and not a nasty plastic sheath like on the otherwise excellent PDair case.
Belt clip...suggestions to Piel Frama.
Of course, we must have a belt clip.
No plastic cover for the screen please. I haven't had a case that has plastic for the screen that I've liked. I always ended up cutting out the plastic. I like using the screen protectors better and allows you to actually tap the screen without issues.
Place a plastic see through "window" on the case to be able to view the "status bar" when the phone is "closed". I would like to be able to see this area when having the phone closed while in its case.
Mesh covering on the speakers. I don't like to cover the speakers at all but would like a mesh covering to protect it without hindering the sound.
If I think of more items I'll post them.
Edit #1: No flap (closing snap or whatever it's called) on the case please. As with the original case, this isn't needed and I see most others have this. It just gets in the way and is annoying and not necessary for this phone.
Edit #2: Maybe a plastic insert for the clear plastic end of the keyboard to avoid scratches on the device. This is a bit stretching it but I'm posting the recommendation anyhow.

personally, i think most of the Athena owner won't really want belt clip, it's too heavy and big to use it that way, and also most importantly, there is just no suitable place to allocate the belt clip, if the belt clip is under the screen, then the surface is not flat anymore therefore you can't use the keyboard.
Personally, i think 80% that Piel Frama Case won't have a belt clip.
p.s. I know a few members here in this thread will want to prove me wrong, well, all i can say is time will tell.
The great thing about the Piel Frama cases is that the clip is optional. You don't have to attach it if you don't want to. If you do want the clip, you pop out a little plastic thingy and screw in the clip "wheel" and use a clip...so this solution will work for all...hopefully.
Edit: Here's an animated GIF of how the clip system works on their cases... http://www.pielframa.com/Animaci%F3n%20grande%20pinza%20super%20nueva.gif

I'm e-mailing Ruben now asking him to check out this post.
Well done, hopefully he will look here and see what options are possible as they go to design? I definitely DO want a belt clip, as where I work I need both hands, but would like the Ameo handy when it's needed!!
Tim
I want:
Mostly as per the PDair case - I like the protection at the front of the Ameo.
Magnetic keyboard attachment, magentic, slide or push clip latch to keep it closed.
Belt loop, or another method of attachment that doesn't leave a component on the case. No pegs.
I don't like the status bar, I don't "use" it per se. It wastes backlight, running the whole screen, and isn't visible in the case anyway.
Of course, I really want it to be Not As Good (or just the same) as the PDair case, so I don't end up spending YET MORE MONEY!
Man, don't you peoples' pants/trousers ever fall down from weighty clip ons? There's NO WAY I could clip the Athena. My pants would come down to my knees!

I actually wear pants that fit like they are supposed to.
For me, the three things I'm looking for in a case are:
1) Something like the pdair case covering the housing of the phone in leather so the keyboard plastic bit doesn't scratch the screen.
2) Clip/latch to hold the thing shut.
3) Magnetic keyboard holder.
I personally don't need a belt clip, but any company that made it optional would probably be selling a lot of cases at the moment!
P.S. Has anyone noticed that Proporta are working on a case at the moment? It's on their website, but sadly no pictures yet.
All good idea to refer him to this post.
The belt option is no solution for this type of device i thinks
indead to carry a brick on you pants is not the way.
I think there should be made a wallet like case with the option to take
also some memory cards and other stuff in it, indead avoid the plastic
holder for the keyboard.
this case looks very nice.
http://www.pielframa.net/texas_instruments_voyage200.asp
let see where they come's up with..
I think that a belt clip or at least an option to have one would be a great idea. Would mean that the case would appeal to more customers from a marketing side of things. I would wear mine on a belt clip at work and then prob put in my pocket in the evening.
I wonder if anyone would make a leather case just for the screen without the keyboard? Id like to just carry the screen around without the keyboard, yet id be worried about the screen being protected when in my pocket.
So funky new case is a great idea, lets hope and im sure it will be a smart case
i'm looking for pielframa's UNIVERSAL PDA CASE BLACK fit to the athena (perfect would be a seperate pocket for the keyboard).
A case for parts of the Athena
The case that comes with Athena is very good when you want the whole thing with you. What I would like is a case that allows me to only take the phone part, not the keyboard. Something slim that protects the screen. It would allow me to safely take the Athena with me when space is sparse.

I have tired to find cool slim cases for my Wizard and Hermes with NO luck. Some of the better leather cases that are thin do not work well as the phone can slide out (when moving fast or coming down stairs) and the uber cool two piece plastic case (this case was cool as you can slide open keyboard without having to open anything - face is always visible too) I found a few months ago was cool until the plastic would no longer keep the phone in the case and would fall right out. Between the Wizard and Hermes, I have owned about 15 cases including the Aluminum cases. All are a bust! I just ordered the Krusell tonight (will ship Next Day Air tomorrow) and will settle for a thicker case in which my phone will NEVER get damaged. I will provide feedback on Wednesday when it arrives..

Images of Krusell Case and my Tilt!
I am a case freak and have purchased every case under the sun (pouches, Aluminum, two piece snap-on case and many many more) for my Wizard and Hermes in the past. It really surprises me that NO ONE can make a good case that allows the PDA/Phone to be FUNCTIONAL while providing good protection. Today my Krusell arrived. Before purchasing I was mixed on the main flap that covers the entire phone when closed. I like to be able to glance at my phone to see incoming calls, emails and text messages.
Anyway, the case is well made and the phone fits firmly into the case (which means phone will not fall out). I do not like the fact that the clip is placed "high" on the rear of the case. When sitting one must becareful not to break the clip. Running with the phone attached could be an issue as well with the clip placement high. Unforunately you have to unsnap the 2nd smaller flap to slide the phone open for keyboard use. I have dealt with this in the past and will probably be ok with it. Bottom line is the case protects the phone very very well. In the past I have found good functional cases that did not protector or hold the phone well. Images are below. Sorry for the poor lighting as I took these at work. I have a photo light at home and will take better images tonight.

Thanks for the pics! I was hoping someone would get this case and post some pics. You can't always rely on the sellers pics.
I am a real big fan of the Krusell cases. I think you will be hard pressed to find better made product. Having said that, I just can't warm up to this case. If it was more like the one for the 8525 I would buy it in a second. It fit my "needs" on the 8525 perfect for how I use the phone. Plus I didn't have to lift a single flap to operate it. This one for the Kaiser/Tilt does, and you have to flip open two flaps to use the keyboard.
I guess I will pass on this one.
Maybe I need to get the thread, needle and some fine Corinthian leather out and make my own.

monaco aircraft aluminium case with screen cover?

I am looking at purchasing this case i was wondering if anyone could give me the run down on it? I ended up buying a tilt becuase i am a tech fan and a hoobiest programmer, a gadget lover, im not a buisness man. I am a commercial electrition during the day and drive pizzas at night. I really love the tilts gps and i use it to listen to podcasts and internet radio in the car. I currently own a leather belt clip case i keep the tilt in most of the time, but im looking for a case solution when im out doing elctrical work. This includes anything from pulling huge cables to digging ditches.
I usually end up going through phones twice a year i beat them up at work pretty bad. I wont be using this monaco as a primary case just while im out in the field. I bascially just need to use my kaiser as a phone and maybe some texting when its in this case. I found the case here http://www.tiltdepot.com/att-tilt-metal-cases.htm the review said it limits the touch screen functionality. So what im wondering is will i be able to still use the creen i mean i just need to be able to use handwriting recognition and some acuall touch support in spb shell and finger based vistual KB's. How does this limit the touch screen?
aA;so how much bulk does this add becuase im also going to need to put the phone in a pouch or something to keep dirt out of the buttons.
I don't have any experience with this case to share I'm afraid. One of the common complaints with metal cases is signal attenuation. You might want to look at one of the Otterbox cases, but you'll still have to pull it out to use the keyboard.
hey buddy. I got a metal case from an australian company called pdair. I've had it since i bought the phone a couple of months ago. It's saved it many times and it doenst hurt the signal at all. BUT, it does have a polycarbonate cover so it does hurt the touchscreen function, but i just use the D-pad anyway. http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000164&products_id=6561
Is the outter box 8000 the one for the tilt? can you hear the phone ring in the outerbox.
Christian see im just wondering if the touchscreen works at all how much does it impair the phone? Im not really worried about the signal anyways im not going to be using the phone in this case all the time. I dont plan on surfing the net or anything while im trying to pull wires down 4 stories of building. Just need to be able to send or recive calls and texts. I think i could deal with flipping the case open and using the keyboard but im still curious how well the touch screen works.

in short I say buy this case. I have this same monaco case and I love it. I work in a warehouse mostly sometimes on a roof helping install solar panels and such, much the same as you im sure with the wire everything from #12 to 600mil. I don't do a lot of pulling but am around it all day and conduit and a forklift oh you get te picture.
this case provides the most protection I can imagine and still have the phone functionable. my case hase seen the concrete from about 10 ft and no problems. scratches of coarse but phone was un harmed.
in short great case great protection and a great buy for me I purchased mine about 2 months ago and I paid $14 or so pre ship on ebay.
get it you won't regret it.
(if you do ill buy it from you)
hope this helps.
mrphat, can you still use the touchscreen at all?? that is what i really want to know, how much it limits the touch screen.
I mean im going to need a tuff case no matter what, not so worried about dropping it, but sliding 4 750s over leg while they get tugged down a pipe is enough to crack the screen in a leather case.
The Pdair case protects/covers the whole phone(including touchscreen) but leaves the access features accessible (i.e. D-pad, answer/end buttons, stylus. etc). You can hear the phone very well and at work i just use the D-pad to answer the phone. Since i have an S2U2 all i do is get it out of standby and i can check quick vitals that way. . Whenever i get a text or something like that, i just open the case and use the phone that way.
After looking at the monaco case, it's EXACTLY the same as the pdair case. Both are aluminum and both have the polycarbonate screen protector.
thanks thats what i really needed to know
I originally bought an aluminum case for my Tilt because I wanted the extra protection. In my experience:
* All of the aluminum cases I've seen appear to be pretty much the same. eBay is littered with them for about a quarter of the price that Tilt Depot is charging. Search "Tilt aluminum case"
* You can use about 90% of the device's features with the Dpad and other keys, but you can't dial the phone without opening the cover.
* I did experience about a one-bar loss in signal with the phone in the case vs. the phone not in the case.
* The case that I had was slippery as heck. I wound up attaching a wrist strap to the phone and would never use the device without strapping in first.
* The aluminum case is a little bulky.
I switched to a rubberized case and don't miss the aluminum nearly as much as I thought I would.
You probably need the extra protection for your day job, and the aluminum case will certainly provide it. Trust me, though, trying to flip open the cover and dial the phone one-handed while you're driving is a huge pain in the rear, not to mention dangerous.
well what about these outerbox cases can you hear the phone ring will they fit in your pocket?
I mean im going to have to keep the aluminum case in a pouch anyways beacuse i work in palm springs wich is all desert and any underground work is in sand, so i have an issue with dirt getting in the buttons too. If im going to be taking the phone out of a case to dial might as well take it out of one instead of two.

mrphat, can you still use the touchscreen at all?? that is what i really want to know, how much it limits the touch screen.
I mean im going to need a tuff case no matter what, not so worried about dropping it, but sliding 4 750s over leg while they get tugged down a pipe is enough to crack the screen in a leather case.

questions been pretty much answered I guess and yes the case needs to be opened to use the touch screen , but trust me it is easy to get acustomed to. as the poster said a few posts up it does work well with s2u2 and the dpad.
forgive me if im wrong but is there a otterbox case made for this device specifically?. I know the ones I've seen are pretty generic and very bulky.
I have mine in the case and I purchased a leather pouch for a BB Curve from the Dollar Tree for a buck its real cheap fake leather so I bought like 4 of them. I just slide it in there. the belt clip is sturdy but doesent allow you to set it down and use it. maybe this helps ?
I also agree that pretty much all of the cases (aluminum) are the same I just happen to own the monaco.

Case?

Does anyone know if HTC will ship the ratail non-branded Touch PRO version with a case?
I only want to get a simple slip-in case that protects the PRO when in a pocket or anything. For usage I would just take it out of the case.

It is going to be shipped with a case but probably not what you're expecting.

As long it is some case that allows you to put it in and out I am fine - at least it is a case...
Case
It's not really a case - more like a slip. You can't attach it to your belt.
I'm off to buy a decent case for it.
Yep, it's literally just a leather "tube" that you slide the Raphael into, with a ribbon stitched inside to stop it sliding out of one end. Snug fit though, so it wont be sliding out too easily anyway. Pics (taken with a Diamond) attached...

Hope you don't mind, I put your images on imageshack so they are a little easier for people to view on the forum...

Yep, that's what came with my UK Raphael.
And thanks grahamrb, should have done that myself!
Is it leather? I hear is more like soft plastic or something...
Seems like leather to me. It's well made and protects the phone well but you just cannot connect it to your belt.
From the pics it's seems a great case.
I hate those cases that had a belt clip, for example for the Prophet, yuck!!
I hate them belt clips to and besides that the risk of losing your phone get's even bigger.
Always in my pocket and guard it with my life

I like the case very much, it keeps the overall size of Phone+Case down as much as conceivably possible. I don't think I need to purchase a new case, unless of course someone teases me with a better one!
Here is a link to a Belt case that HTC should be producing:

I would love to see these cases for the Diamond/Pro:

In custom colours like VAJA offers them...
Anyone know of any other suitable cases that mount on a belt horizontally?
I have the case that came with the Touch Pro and, all in all, it's good quality except it's just a slip and is a bit tight, i.e. can't get the phone out quickly.
There was a leather version of the official case advertised which looked better than the soft version (which seems to open around the edges for my liking and that material doesn't offer enough stiff protection), but that seems to have vanished.

The above links show the Original HTC cases. Is that what you are after or is that the soft material you mentioned?
PDair Leather Cases
Found this on PDair's website. Thought you guys might be interested if you're looking for a case for your touch pro (=

Yep, that's the soft material one which doesn't look like it gives much protection, also seems quite open at the bottom, probably only an elastic strip in the middle.
There was a leather case being advertised but that seems to have gone now.

These are very nice! I'm a bit skeptical though about the magnetised studs to close it, could they cause problems with the memory (internal or cards) due to the magnetic field? Anybody have experience with these either way?

Nifty leather case I found, made for the Kaiser

I am a pretty big perfectionist when it comes to cases. I want something that doesn't add steps to the process of using the phone, and something that is durable as well.
I've been through the hard cover cases and found that they look terrible after a few dings. I also found that on most hard cover cases there is a certain point of weakness where the frame is smaller to compensate for port access, which led my case to crack.
Anyways, I just ordered the O24550LCST1BK from CarryMobile.
Google search O24550LCST1BK and click the first link to see it.
When will I have my url restrictions lifted? I've been a registered user for a bit now...
From the pictures it's just what I was looking for. It isn't blocky or otherwise ugly. I really like the rugged appearance and the metal hook on the back for misc usage!
The only downside is that it doesn't have a way to use the keyboard (thats another model that they offer though). I use mostly touch friendly apps anyways so I won't notice it.
When it arrives I will let you know what I think!
Is this the one you meant?
http://www.carrymobile.ru/all_HTC_HTC+Kaiser_HTC+TyTn+II+Sleeve+Type+Black.html
Doesn't seem very svelte. And having to take it off to use the keyboard is a big negative for me.
The O24550LCBSPBK-4550 may be more along the lines of something you would be interested in. I'm debating changing my order for that one and just removing the front cover flap.
Thx but all these cases are a waste of time and money. Just don't throw your phone on the floor and it stays fine. It's all common sense really. If you drop it, well that's your fault isn't it. Take care of your phone and it will last for years.

I can agree with your point of not dropping it being the number 1 way to make a phone last, but in my situation I need a case for both the protection and belt clip usage. I am normally pretty good about taking care of my phone, but I've had a few run ins with people bumping into me.
I know I am perfectly capable of taking care of my phone, but it's the other 'crazy drivers' im worried about. I'd think differently if I hadnt already had to replaced most of the internal components of my phone XD
I use Seidio hard case with local branded leather pouch (vertical, with flap magnetic cover). Pretty handy. Tried not dropping the phone, it's now 3 times already. All due to my own absent mindedness.
However, the Seidio holds up well, it hasn't cracked or anything. Phone working fine still ..
I had PDAir Aluminium on my SE M600 previously, but given Kaiser's bulk & weight, I decided going lighter. Besides I read somewhere the aluminium reduces signal quality (on M600 doesn't matter, not doing any Wifi - it doesn't have one but it matters for Kaiser, both GPS and Wifi)
Its similar to the case I had by SENA for my HTC 8525/HERMES. The only difference it had a flap the covered the entire screen/keyboard and did fully protect the phone. The only problem was you had to remove the phone for the keyboard. Generally didn't use the keyboard so it was perfect. Unfortunately SENA doesn't make one for the KAISER otherwise I'd buy it. Did protect the phone fully.

did you look at the O24550LCBSPBK-4550 model? Sounds like what you describe, except you can open it up and the keyboard keys are protected by a plastic layer. I finally broke down and got this case, so I am just waiting on it to arrive from hong kong now
