Battery problems with CDMA hero... - Hero, G2 Touch General

I was looking over the Sprint forums to see if everyone else was having issues with their battery not lasting a day. It seems like there is a huge problem with the dialer keeping your phone on. I'm posting the first post here to spread the word, maybe we can get a fix with everyone in the know.
(Full thread HERE)
My friend and I both purchased Heros and we are both seeing pretty poor battery life. Using a couple of different things we believe we have figured out where the problem lies, but we are unsure how to fix it!
Here's what we know:
Menu < Settings < About Phone < Status < Awake Time
Both of ours have an awake time of 100%. According to other Android users, the lower this number is the better your battery life. So basically this is saying that even when the phone is off, it's not asleep. It is fully awake 100% of the time. Up time should not be the same as awake time.
Using an app called Spare Parts (Spare Parts) you can dig a little deeper.
Spare Parts < Battery History < Partial Wake Usage < Since Last Unplugged.
My phone is showing that the dialer has a wake lock for 16h. This appears to mean that the phone can't sleep because the dialer has locked it.
You can also check under "Other Usage." I have "Running", "Screen on", and "Phone on." Running says:
Time spent without sleeping: 16 hours (100%).

So now the problem is how do we fix it?
UPDATE ON PROGRESS:
I have made some progress! I downloaded a program from the market that was simply called Task Manager. I previously had checked out TasKiller and TaskControl but neither saw the dialer. I opened Task Manager and clicked on "Phone" and got "This task is not exported. don't switch or stop it." Well I stopped it anyways. Instantly after hitting my power button I began to see a time difference between Up Time and Awake Time (5 minute time difference now).
I was also able to call my phone and text it! After doing so "Phone" showed back up in Task Manager however it is still sleeping properly. I'm not sure what else this is effecting yet or if resetting the phone causes it to mess up again.
UPDATE 2:
So I had to get some sleep last night.

I will be doing lots of testing throughout the day. My phone slept about 7 hours through the night. I only had a 1% drop in battery life during the night! And I did receive a text this morning. The only thing I know for sure so far is that sending a text causes it to stop sleeping again. I will keep this thread updated as I run some tests today.
UPDATE 3:
So we have determined exactly when it happens. We tried all of the following:
receiving e-mail
checking e-mail
browsing the web
loading google maps and locking location
receiving text
reading text
making a phone call
receiving a phone call
Every single one allows the unit to go back to sleep without any issues. There are two things that prevent it from sleeping every time:
send a text
Turning the phone on with no activity
So sending a text is obvious. Every single time we sent a text, the phone would stop sleeping. Receiving a text is fine. What i mean by turning the phone on with no activity is if I turn the phone on and just let it boot up and disable the screen on it's own and never send or receive a text, it will stay awake even though the screen is off. The phone ends up turning the screen off before it actually boots 100%. Once I turn the phone back on and actually look at my home screen (after it's done booting) and then turn it off again, it will sleep properly.
I'll post more as we figure out more.

Very interesting... I'm subscribing to this thread.
So after sending a txt can you simply kill dialer again to put it back to sleep?

I'd imagine that it would work that way, but what a PITA
Anyone with a GSM version able to confirm that this doesn't happen on your device?

I'm at a 24% awake time with my CDMA Hero, and my uptime is 5:23:30
Not sure what I'm doing differently, but I am using Advanced Task Killer to auto-end all apps I don't explicitly exclude every 30 minutes. Maybe you've got a runaway process?

Ok so I'm using Handcent SMS now to try and avoid this problem but I feel like it's not doing anything considering I still get notifications from the regular messenging application. I set Handcent as the default SMS/MMS app but I still get two notifications in the notification panel: one from handcent one from Messenger.
Also... I'm going to miss the messenging widget.. handcent doesn't have one. Just a shortcut.

Same problem here I have an awake time of 100% what a bummer. I knew there must be a problem because when I got to work today my battery was at full charge, we cant use our phones at work and I felt like following the rules today lol so I didnt take my phone out not once. I showed it to my friend but I didnt turn it on because it got busy. Anyways i get off work only six hours later, short shift, and remember this is with 0% use and my battery was almost dead.

install chompsms or handsent..

this is what to do
go to spare parts, general, end buton behavious, select "go to sleep"
now every time you press the end call button, the phone should hopefully go to sleep
try it out and say if it makes a difference

Spare Parts didn't help, still showing as continuous uptime with "go to sleep" enabled. I can confirm through spare parts that the Dialer is the culprit (Battery history-->Change CPU Usage to Partial Wake Usage)
This is a huge bug, can't believe that they didn't catch this before launch.

subscribed too, this explains why my battery goes away so fast.

I'm gonna subscribe to this. We chances are we're gonna have to fix this one on our own much sooner than Sprint or HTC will release an official fix.

I just noticed this today, a reset fixed it but hopefully they will get a real fix out for it soon.
Good thing I don't send many text messages.

You can turn off the notification from the Hero's Messaging app, There should be an option in the app settings. Also, you can still use the Widget to read messages, but make sure you don't use it for sending them. It seems that sending the message is what causes the glitch.
Also, it appears that HTC is aware of the issue and is working on a fix: http://htcsource.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=770&Itemid=50

I did the workaround to handcent and I can say that I will not revert back to the stock messenger once a true fix is discovered. Handcent really is a better messenger application from the customizations available through to the delivery. The biggest aspect is finally being able to send picture mail without the error of the file being over 1mb. Handcent also tells me that the file is too big to send, but it asks me if I would like it to resize the picture to the correct size to send...yes! Not only that, but it completely plays well with the HTC messenger widget so you can keep that on a screen for easy access if you want to.
Another thing that I noticed was when I tried to send a contact to another device as a V-card file, it was sent through the default messenger but it did NOT cause an issue with the dialer??? I'm not sure how that happened, but it is great to know that using the default messenger for built in processes will not trigger the dialer issue.
In short, Handcent is the ****. Even after the workaround was discovered I was going to wait out a fix for the default app...don't waste your time like I did.
ps--I didn't go through the trouble of a hard/factory reset. I simply installed handcent after a restart and disabled the HTC messenger. No problems what so ever after 6 hours of testing and I also have had Advanced Task Kiler installed since day one. Just be sure to set handcent as the default app whenever there is a screen that asks you for it.
Awake time 38%

Sorry for the question but how do you set handcent as the default messaging app? I've been using it for a day now and haven't found anyway to make it default. I'm still getting 2 notifications and also still have the battery glitch... Any help would be greatly appretiated.

I am used to using Handcent since I had my G1 but I think it has gotten even better during my time away. To set it as the default go to message app - settings and deselect notifications way at the bottom. Then click the message widget if you use it or a new text or whatever and select always use this option on the popup and select Handcent. Then REBOOT. Works perfect for me I now have an up time of 23 hours and an awake time of 19% and my battery is nearly full after decent use of browser and Navigation, with GPS, bluetooth, wifi, and lots of talking all day.
edit: also DO NOT open the message app and send a text or you will not see a fix, just throw away any shortcuts to the default app on your homescreen and forget that sucker ever existed

I am trying to follow your instructions on setting this as default. I do my settings and my "Notifications" box is already unchecked.
I click on the message widget like you mention and it just brings up my message window. There is never a pop up like you mention so I am not able to set Handcent as default.
Any thoughts?

I don't know if this means anything and/or if this will help, but when I am going to install "Robo Defense FREE" from the market, it says this application has access to the following "System tools, prevent phone from sleeping."

Hit the "Clear Defaults" button in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Messaging. with this cleared, you should now be prompted wih the choice of messaging apps. Select the one you want (assuming that it is NOT the native mesaging) and select as default.

Bugs I have found

Alright, I got my Slide yesterday, and overall I am happy, but here are some things I have found. If anyone can help solve any of these issues, I will be indebted. This are in no particular order, just as I can remember them!
1. Can the LED change colors? My 3rd party apps have been unable to change the color.
2. MyModes:
Can I manually enter the location at which I wish the mode to change? Right now I need to be physically at the location for it to recognize that is where I want the mode to change.
Can I change the ringtone to vibrate instead of silent under mymode settings?
3. Custom notification ringtone: I can see the ringtones I have put on my SD card in some apps, but not in others. For instance, in Gmail - I cannot get my custom ringtone to show up in avaialbe ring tones, but I see it in other apps.
4. My GPS is ALWAYS searching
5. MyFaves: How do I turn off the notification for myfaves activity? CAn you turn my faves off?
6. Can you turn Sense (Expresso Sense, TMO sense, whatever they are calling it) off? Too many duplicate apps (mail, gmail, htc mail, music, htc music, 3 different messaging apps)
7. The messaging icon always displays an unread message, even tho I have read the message.
Thats all I have come up with, or can remember. What "bugs" have others found/fixed? Any one heard of an update to correct some of these bugs?
Thanks

this happend to me a simple restart solved the problem. this also happend on htc touchflo 2d, 3d on windows mobile so im going to say this is a htc bug.
A bug I noticed: plug in the USB, and there's 3 different modes: sdcard access, sync, and charge only. Setting it to charge only launches the sync software on the PC, setting it to sync mode does not. Also, it seems to turn USB debug mode off and on by itself.

I have them like in my G1 - in a media/audio/ringtone, notification, and alarms
i dont have this problem. make sure your gps is switched to be active and not just use cell towers
Reboot corrected the issue.

Seems inconvienient that I would have to rebooteverytime to correct this
Another thing that has come up - My Homescreen is not rotating (yes it is set to) unless I open the keyboard (which is loose already).

Not a bug. That's what it's supposed to do. Go go 2.1 and sense UI. You can set the default action for this in your settings
Menu > Settings > Connect to PC.
************
I have noticed, the keyboard backlight doesn't always light up. I'll go to respond to a sms and the backlight for the menu buttons and the keyboard doesn't light up.
The keyboard is lit based on the light sensor. No light, it's on. Enough light, it kicks off.
here's a bug that i noticed, at least i think it's a bug. volume rocker/ringer volume does not control the notification volume(aka txt messages). any ideas on that one?
wasn't a problem on my cliq(which was my first android phone, slide is my second)
Had something last-night ping me when I was messin with home screens. After going back to SenceUI app icons were being selected with out my hand touching the screen, it happened about 4 times. Didnt activate the icon, just highlighted it, and would go away when I would select something else.
I thought it was my case or something, cause I was holding it, but then I saw wesgamer say something similar to the touchscreen messing up as well.
It was small and brief, but note worthy none the less.

Im also having this issue, happened on Home screen and DeskClock. DeskClock is fixed by Opening the keyboard, letting it go horizontal, and then closing the keyboard. Home screen, not so much.
I've run into a couple little bugs too...
Sometimes a text message thread will become out of order (the message I sent gets placed below the message I received as a response).
It also hapened in the very beginning when I only had a few texts in total on the phone so I dont think its related to having too many mesages stored.
A couple times the screen decided to scroll all the way up or down without cause. It has only scrolled down in a text thread and only up on a web page (XDA actually). I had a hell of a time trying to read something from the middle of a text thread! haha
I have had the messaging icon read 1 and all of them be read. I have also had the messages get out of order if text are sent back and forth between a minute.
I have one contact with a different ringtone and that ringtone never goes off, always the default one.
I've also had a problem with sd mounting, I had mine set to charge only and I hooked it up to my laptop and no option would come out to mount. I tried changing the setting to automatically mount and that didn't work either. A restart did.
Lastly, I had a theme downloaded from the theme site and had it as my installed theme. I went to the theme selection page and uninstalled the theme while still having it set as my theme and this made the phone crash and restart.
slvrblt - same thing happens to me
turboyo - I have had the messaging icon read 1 and all of them be read. I have also had the messages get out of order if text are sent back and forth between a minute.
i have that happen too. anyone not have their phone vibrate when text messages are received when vibrate mode is selected?
also sometimes when i'm writing a text message the cursor will jump around, anyone experience that?
this is a great phone with so many little dumb problems lol
The stock messaging app is garbage compared to Handcent and Chomp.
I was able to get rid of the duplicate Faves notification, but I can't remember how. Helpful, huh? I did go through the built-in "Manage Applications" via Settings and did some Force Stop on the redundant apps. I also went through via the Tools in Astro with Process Manager and took out a few things. So far, it seems as the management of processes being run is not as efficient as stock Android. Using the same process managers as on my G1, I always have much, much more to kill in the Slide. This has beat up my battery life and stopping several of these "unused" items has helped, but some apps have caused processes from several other apps to run and bloat the memory.
A couple other people mentioned it but Rindgdroid for creating notifications: sdcard/media/audio/notifications. Most of the things I've done I saved as a notification. I've used the pre-installed Voice Recorder then opened up that saved file in Ringdroid and saved as a 'Notification'. It's then shown up via Settings/Notifications in K9 Mail and the Gmail app. I have not tried this for other types of notifications.
So far, I love the phone. The standard "complaints" but have really taken to Swype as an alternate to the keyboard, especially for shorter messages. Genius is super. This is a phone that desperately needs a custom ROM though to help alleviate the excess stuff.

Something strange with battery

Greetings everyone,
Something very strange happen last night,
before i sleep i download a few games and three new applications.
The one is lockbot pro that changing the screen locker and the the ChompSMS v4.7 and the other office suite.
I played a bit with the lockbot turn off my wifi as always. My battery was at around 55%.
Please note that with 55% i usually go 1 more full day. Time 2.30 .
I woke up at 6:45 to see my wife a little before she goes to work i checked a bit the mobile and i had 1 unread message , showing from Chomp but i totally ignore it left at screen as it is and i went to the bed till 12:45.
After i wake up my phone was off with 0 battery
So the problem is one of the 3 applications that i downloaded.
If anyone knows something more please tell me .
I already unistalled Chomps and went back to Handy.
Thanks an cheers
Vatis
As far as I'm aware, the only way to check which app is keeping your phone awake is to uninstall them one at a time.
So you'd need to uninstall an app, reboot your phone and don't touch it for like half an hour. Then go to the dialer and press *#*#4636#*#* (or download Spare Parts from the market. Click on "Battery History", select "Other Usage" from the top menu, and "Total Since Boot" from the second drop-down menu. You want a lower percentage for where it says "Running".
If it's high, then reinstall that app, delete a different one, and start the process over again.
There might be a quicker way, but I haven't heard of it.
Thanks Chris i will try that.
Regards

Tips to MAXIMIZE the Battery Life of your Xperia Z2

When you talk smartphone, you want consistency, you want reliability, you want good battery life. And considering also that the Xperia Z2 doesn't have a swappable battery, at least not easily, you want your mobile to keep going for as long as possible.
So this thread is to help you optimise the battery life of your Xperia Z2. It's not 'Magic', it's just knowing what drains battery and avoiding it. Simple tips most people know and well, many more should. I will also use the steps from my Initial thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579075 as the steps there are actually helpful to just about any android devices.
Just dat in this thread, i will try to target it at the Xperia Z2 of course.
Xperia Z2 specific tips (Or any other Xperia device)
1. Turn On Stamina Mode: App drawer > Settings > Power Management. Turn it on.
After turning on Stamina mode, remember to add the applications you need active in Standy, these are applications your rely on for notifications, such as Instant messaging apps.
If you do not do this, you will not receive IM messages or email notifications till you turn on your screen.
Example of the apps on my list are: BBM, Email, Gmail, Instagram, Messenger (FB), WhatsApp. So I still get my messages.
2. Turn On Extended Stand By: App drawer > Settings > Power Management > Stamina mode. Then tick Extended Standby.
3. Turn On Extended usage: App drawer > Settings > Power Management > Stamina mode. Then tick Extended Usage. (If you notice lag, turn off this feature) - But this has a HUGE effect on extending battery life. I don't get lags, so i leave it on.
4. Turn On Low Battery mode: App drawer > Settings > Power Management. Turn on Low battery mode. Now select Low Battery mode then Unick Mobile Data Off and WiFi Off, as i'm guessing you would still want to use your internet when ur battery is below 20%.
5. Turn On location Based WiFi: As the name implies, it turns on ur WiFi when u are in a certain location (say home or office). Then turns WiFi off when u out of that location. This feature doesn't work in my situation as I have a mobile pocket router. So I keep it turned off, do the same if you you have one of those too.
6. Turn On Queue background data: App drawer > Settings > Power Management. Tick Queue background data.
As the description below it says, what it does is queue the background data and send out background data at intervals, instead of sending randomly and using more battery.
7. Turning Off X-Reality Engine: This can also help you save some battery, but i guess most people will rather have than on. You can find this here Settings > Display. First thing on the list is X-Reality Engine.
8. Freeze Bloat: Bloatware are apps that could be useful but are not neccesary for the effective running of the phone. The more bloat u have running, the more ram your device uses and in turn, battery. I have made a list of Apps that are 'Safe to Freeze' on the Xperia Z2 itself, as I am not yet rooted at the time of this original post, the list is not yet complete.
But I will add alot more to this list when I root and get the option to freeze even more. You can disable these apps by going into Settings > Apps, then swipe to the 'All' tab. Select the app then hit disable.
Here is the list below.
Safe to Freeze Apps
Account Manager
Black Hole
Bubbles
Drive (I have limited data, i don't use it - I reckon it will drain battery too)

General Tips (Adopted from my first thread)
9. Greenify: ROOT ONLY EVERY rooted user must have Greenify! It's a fantastic app! It hibernates apps that you are not using so they never get to use your battery, yet the apps are available whenever you need them. No stress!
Download Greenify here - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify (I bought the paid version as it has more fuctions)
For those who don't know greenify or how to use it, it's simple! Only Greenify those apps you don't rely on for Push Notifications.
For example, don't greenify apps like WhatsApp, Facebook, Viber, Twitter, BBM if you expect to get notifications from them in the background.
Feel free to Greenify other apps like your games, adobe reader, dictionary, and the rest of them as you don't receive notifications from.
Note: If you are a NON ROOT Greenify user, you can still select to greenify apps. Go into Greenify and click the '3 dots' at the bottom right corner of the screen and hit 'Create hibernation shortcut'. This will send a shortcut to your home screen which u can use to close all ur supposedly 'greenified' apps by just touching that button. Do this whenever, especially just before u lock ur device. It's very effective. However, Greenify works best on Rooted devices. It hibernates automatically.
10. Screen/Brightness: As we all know, normally the screen consumes the most power so if you can manage ur screen properly, u can get some extra juice. My advice on brightness is set to Lowest then tick 'Auto', so you won't have to bother about setting screen brightness especially when outdoors. Then you should screen also set timeout to 30s. Try to avoid using live wallpapers as it uses the GPU for the animations.
11. GPS/Maps: Now, GPS is like the Number One drainer of battery and many many people don't know this. Here is what you do, pull down your notification bar with 2 fingers and make sure 'Location' is turned off. Leave turned off 'ALWAYS' unless you need to use GPS.
Maps is also another app that drains battery in the background, I don't use maps at all, so I keep it frozen/disabled all the time.
But if you use maps always and you are ROOTED, my advice is that you open up TitaniumBackup, look for maps on the list of apps, long press it and then convert to User app. Now u can Greenify it and it will still be available whenever you need it.
Note: Latest versions of Titanium Backup doesn't allow you to convert user apps, I can't find it anywhere anyways.. But here is a work-around. Uninstall Maps in Titanium Backup. Then re-install it from Play Store. Now it will install as User app instead of system app and u can freeze it.
12. Google Now / Google+: Google now does drain battery, if you don't use Google Now, turn it off. Go into Google now, enter settings and turn off. I keep my Google now frozen as I never use it anyways. If I ever need to, I will unfreeze it.
Google+ is one app that drains alot of battery, if you do not use it much or don't need it at all, my advice is that you handle it. Greenify it or better still, Get rid of it. However, if you use Google+ always and you are ROOTED, Greenify it just as I said in the step above.
If you successfully handle numbers 11 and 12, you will not have issues with 'Google Services' drain anymore!
13. Sounds/Vibration: Maybe not really a big deal, but those keypad/touch sounds do drain battery. It's fine to leave them on if you 'really' like em, but if you can do without, then do! Especially Haptic Feedback! (Vibrate on touch). Settings > Sound. Now scroll down to System. You will get the option there to turn them off. It's fine to leave Dial pad touch tones and StartUp tone. You don't hear/use then dat often (If that makes any sense to you lol). Also go into ur keyboard settings and turn off any sounds and vibration
14. Reception: Believe it or not, reception is VERY IMPORTANT when it comes to battery life saving. If you have good reception, then it's smooth sailing and good battery, but if your reception isn't good then your phone is always always trying to reconnect your apps and services to the internet, over and over and over again! (especially on mobile data). Trust me, this can take a serious Toll on your battery.
Here is how: Well, since i'm always on WiFi (have a pocket router as i said earlier).. I never need '3G/HSPA' reception active (No 4G here), so I set my phone to GSM/2G Only. Go into Settings > More... > Mobile Networks. then change Network mode to GSM Only). If you use LTE, you can set to either just 3G Only as that should still be more stable than 4G/LTE, you can still set as above too, afterall you won't be needing the LTE connection when on WiFi.
Bottomline, setting phone to 'GSM only' saves you a CHUNK of battery
However, if this sounds too complicated or something, this App makes it simple. (SADLY it is ROOT ONLY) You can set it to switch your phone to GSM Only when on WiFi and then Back to 4G/3G when disconnected from WiFi. Pretty Neat eh?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/themes-apps/app-intelli3g-2g-3g-4g-toggle-battery-t2580234
15. Disable Animation scales: Settings > Developer Options. Then scroll down to 'Drawing' section. And set the following to 'Animation Off'. Window animation scale, Transition animation scale and Animator duration scale. What this does it disable those UI animation helping you save battery, at the same time, making ur phone feel more responsive and fast.
Note: If you can't find 'Developer Options' in your settings menu, Select 'About Phone' instead then scroll down and keep hitting the 'Build number' option as many times till you see message saying 'You are now a developer', now go back and you will find developer options!
16. Sync: Of course disabling Auto Sync will extend your battery time, but then your smartphone might as well not be called a 'smart'phone anymore. So, even if you leave Auto-Sync on, be sure to make sure that your phone Auto Syncs stuffs that you actually want it to, things that you really need! Especially under Google Sync. Open Settings, Scroll down to 'Accounts' area then select Google. After you select Google, now select ur main account there which i guess should normally be the first one. Not sure, I only alays have 1 google account on my phone. After you select it, you will see a list of the items it is actively Syncing. For me here, the most important to me are 'Sync Contacts' and 'Sync Gmail' and those are the only two I leave active. I untick all the rest. You should do this according to what you use, or do it like Stanley! You can apply same to other google accounts you have on ur phone.

I found out that the Whites on the Xperia Z2 is kinda off. Looks 'brownish' if I may. Go into Settings > Display > White balance. Then try R = 5, G = 35, B = 80.

And hopefully the screenshots below will convince you to try some or all of the tips above. And as I said, I'm not rooted (at the time of this post) so i guess even root is not essential to get the best battery life on the Z2.
I had BBM, WhatsApp, 2 Email clients (Stock and Gmail), Instagram, Messenger (FB). Stock Facebook app drains too much battery! I don't use it.

For some reason, GSam Battery Monitor Pro did not tally with the phones stats exactly. I think it was because I didn't install the Kitkat battery stat thing it asked me to or maybe its because i'm not rooted. Don't know really. Thanks for the post. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who's anal about battery life. And I hate all the battery draining bloatware (that's usually switched ON by default as well).
I'll de-bloat some more as soon as there's an exploit that allows me to root without UB.
And I'll have a look into Greenify as well. Is it as good as You claim it to be?
EDIT: It would be nice to know what all those safe-to-remove apps do. What does Xperia Social Engine Sharing do, for instance?

I will look at them, but i guess it has to do with sharing something from an app in ur phone to FB. 'Safe to Freeze' only means freezing it won't disturb ur phone and not that u must freeze them all. I don't use these...
Unless rooted, I don't think greenify helps that much. It doesn't seem to hibernate properly once out the app. Just sits in pending?!

Lol. I get ur confusion. But technically, No. Stamina mode disables internet to stop apps from transferring data. Greenify closes the entire app. Let's say for instance, you sleep off using your phone, maybe with Google Chrome running, stamina mode will only stop google chrome from transferring in the background 'periodically' but Greenify will close Google chrome entirely because it sees that your screen has been turned off for a while which means that you are not using the app. So, it closes it entirely. Saving you even more juice.
I do nothing you are mentioning and getting almost 2 days battery life.

[APP][8.24.14] Sprocket - Notifications, SMS/MMS, File Transfer, Remote App Install

I bought a gear recently and was sad to see a lack of apps tailored specifically for it so I made one of my own!
Sprocket
Features:
Native SMS/MMS functionality.
View/Send SMS conversations
View MMS
File Transfer
Send a file from the phone and it will automatically be saved in Internal Storage in the GalaxySMS directory and opened on the Gear from the default handling app
.
Remote Application Install
Allows you to install apps on the gear that are installed on your phone.
*Note does not work for paid apps it seems. At least on my Moto X.
Installation
Install the apk on both the phone and the gear and you will be good to go. The application will be automatically run on startup, but needs to be started initially once first installed on both the phone and gear.
Its a good idea to have bluetooth already turned on when initially starting the app.
Install on Phone first, select device
Install on gear next, select device
Support
This app was written specifically on my Moto X so there may or may not be issues with other phones. Please send me a logcat and I'll see what I can do.
Update 7.29.2014
East2West said:
Hello everyone!
I've been working many hours on this release and have made several improvements.
ChangeLog
Better App Stability
System runs in the foreground now so it is less likely to be killed
Improved Connection Speeds
Increased buffer size to allow faster transfers
New Notifications For Texts
This is the one I'm most excited about. I took some inspiration from the new Android Wear Watches to create custom notifications for our beloved gear.
Installation
Install the update on both the Gear and the Phone. If you already have sprocket installed on your gear you can update it with the new version v1.1 attached to the first post using Remote Install. To enable notifications click "Enable SMS Notifications" on the Phone version and follow the prompts.
Right now the app supports all notifications for SMS, but if you would like to preview notifications across the entire device you may download a developer key available on the play store. It will unlock all other notifications (including ongoing and button control!) from the device and will help continue development from my end to give you new features to make our device more useful. A preview of these notifications below:
Install Developer Key*
*The developer key only needs to be installed on the phone

Great app! Is it normal that an ongoing notification will cause my watch to vibrate every few minutes? I would prefer that it only notifies me when it pops up initially. I'd also love to see an option to set this app as a lock screen. Thanks and keep up the awesome work!

System Service draining battery life (SOLVED)

Within the past few days I've noticed that me x727's battery has been draining quite a bit faster. Always at the top of the list in battery stats is System Service. I always have location services and Bluetooth disabled. Has anyone had a similar issue and figured out the exact cause?
edit: I just came across this post from someone else who has Mint SIM and they suggested entering the APN values manually instead of using what the network gives your phone automatically. https://community.zteusa.com/thread/13643#74674. So far it seems like phone is holding a data connection immediately after Wi-Fi disconnect, but time will tell how battery life will be.
edit 2: manually setting the apn values using what Mint Sim provides on their website has completely foxed the issue! My battery life is back to normal and my data connection holds normally again.
I have this exact same problem, but with location services on. Also, I had Android OS draining the battery. I don't know what is causing these issues. Hope someone can find the problem.
Habe also problems with System Services

Swipe away settings on recents
After one month without reboot or switch off the phone also i had the same problem: reboot the phone twice helped me.
Same issue here, System Service is about 50-70% of values of screen (e.g. if screen is 40%, System Service is 20-28%)
A reboot or swiping away settings don't seem to help for me.
Same here. I did rebooting the phone twice and swipe away settings does not seem to help, too.

Disabling the background resource control cause the System service and Android OS to ramp up? I disable it, because of notification issues with gmail, whatsapp, hangout, and outlook mail. Notification only works when I open the app. Other than that, notification never works.

I made sure the apps that send notification will auto-launch (Permissions menu) and they can notify (Notifications Management menu) and Important Notice star enabled as well. Google sync should be enabled under Account Management and some apps like Gmail have Sync options that should be enabled as well.
Align Wakeup and Ultra Long Standby both disabled and mine is running stock 21S.
And oh notifications are also coming thru my Gear Fit2 for convenience. =D

Its common issue if you browse various forums, many users with many different devices has this issue. Ofcourse google could optimise system better, but 90% of times its due to user configuration/buggy apps. First thing i would do is turn off backup under settings and location history.

I can guarantee you its your configuration fault. Its either buggy app, a buggy app or data restore, or buggy system service not letting device sleep properly. As i said earlier, i would start by disabling backup under settings, also location history reporting. Thats 2 things known to cause these problems. If that doesnt help would start looking into apps, 1 by 1. Safest way is to just clean flash or factory reset, then turn off backup and location history, and before installing any app or backup, i am 100% sure, the phone will sleep as a baby. Then start installing apps and look for culprit if its there.
I can confirm, that disabling location service (and location history) is a solution for battery draining. When I disable it in system settings, problem gone.
