Setting Mode Of Operation/Forcing 1x on Imagio - Imagio General

So I just migrated over from my Vogue (xv6900) to the Imagio. One of the problems I have at my job because of where my office is located I have the worst quality available because of no windows, and being in the back of the room behind walls, etc.
On my Vogue I flashed using NSFAN's 6.1 ROM and I was able to go into the settings and force the phone into 1X which helped alot with my battery life. Now that I have the Imagio I can see the registry settings in this thread but when I do them I don't notice any changes to giving me the modes of operation.
Because this is a world phone (and perhaps has WM 6.5) the settings are different and I don't see these settings at all in the phone settings. The modes of operation are only CDMA, GSM/UMTS only or Global. Does anyone have any insight as to how I can implement the 1x hack?
Also to note now there's no "EV" icon, there's "3G" and "1X". Anyone have some insight to share on to how this phone and the TP2 search for networks now and how that all works versus an older device such as the Vogue.

yeah this is an old thread.
anybody find the "mode of operation" hack for these phones? also looking for the tp2

For me on the imagio setting the phone to function in CDMA mode alone worked. Putting it in Global mode caused my battery to run down unnecessarily. Others have reported that unlocking the SIM and using a different carrier's SIM should help the phone find the signal it's looking for but I have yet to try that.

to reply to your first post. the 3G icon does not matter. its still the same type of service.

Where would I go about diagnosing connection issues? MDA+TMO

Not to give away too much specific information, but I've got a new TMO MDA and the building I am in actually has TMO repeaters. Other TMO phones get perfect reception, and I can even put this new sim into my old unlocked HTC Typhoon and get perfect reception, yet my new TMO MDA won't get any signal.
I'm attempting to scour the registry to find some bit of info or a bit to flip or something of that sort to diagnose the issue. Our TMO rep apparently has RF engineers working on the issue, but if I can fix it sooner than they can I'd be happy.
So, basically, only these new MDAs (other new MDA owners are experiencing the same issue, as well as SDA owners) fail to authenticate to the repeaters in this building. I doubt the repeaters have a list of phones that allow authentication, since the Typhoon was never released by TMO and that can authenticate fine. So I'm thinking there is some bit on the MDAs that is sticking to one band frequency or another, or something to that effect.
Any idea where I could look for info, whether it be a web source or maybe a registry key I could tweak or something of the sort? I got the engineer mode to work (after another registry tweak to turn it on), and it isn't showing any information since the phone isn't connecting to any tower/repeater.
when you go to select networks to use, does the phone give you a list of possible cell networks?
Sorry if i sound obvious....but:
1. Have you compared the Roms on the phones? Maybe the new phone has a different rom which is causing the problem.
2. Have you tried the phone anywhere else outside your building...
3. The engineering mode will still work even without a SIM installed, so if your getting blank information then I think you have an old Rom
Hope this helps
Answers to questions in the thread:
1. If I go to select my networks manually, and it searches for networks, all it finds is the Cingular network, which I can not connect to. It won't find the TMO network at all. But I know it exists because other TMO phones work fine with full reception, and even my old Typhoon works with my new TMO sim in it.
2. The roms on all the MDAs shipped from TMO USA 1.8.10.2 and GSM rom 01.09.10.
3. Phone works entirely fine outside of the building. The building is shielded, but there are repeaters in the building for current TMO users. I know they work since other TMO phones other than the new MDA and SDAs work fine.
4. As for engineering mode... interestingly enough, now that I do have reception (I'm at home right now), I also get blanks. I thought that because I didn't get any reception, I wasn't getting anything from the engineering mode. But interestingly enough, I still don't even though I have reception.
Methinks I do need just the GSM rom. Someone mentioned it in another thread in the Wizard Upgrade forum. Where might I get just that ROM, maybe I'll give it a shot and see if it fixes before doing a full ROM upgrade (which I'd like to do for performance reasons, but I haven't gotten a definitive answer whether I can revert back to bone stone TMO roms with extended roms and everything yet).
I woould suggest getting hold of one of the phones that works, back up the registry, and restore it to the phone that doesn't work. That would tell you if its a registry setting, or a phone/rom problem

Well, there are no phones that work.
The phones that do work are your run of the mill non-smartphone phones, not a WM5 phone.
Actually, that's not true since my Typhoon is running Windows Mobile 5, but it is entirely different than the MDA.
Only all the stock MDAs shipped from TMO are failing to authenticate to these repeaters. Makes me think that updated the radio rom would help, or something on the repeaters is blocking just these two phones (the Wizard and the Tornado).
Try updating the wizard with one of these roms:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Wizard/Roms/Tmobile/
Well, I updated the radio rom to 01.12.10...
And still wont connect to these repeaters. The phone seemed snappier to connect when I stepped outside of the building, though. So there is a plus. However, there has to be some reason the repeaters in this building are not allowing my phone to auth.

Asking for assistance w/Touch/Elf wifi Registry settings

Hello all,
From my research it has been suggested that I could enable the wifi functionality on my Sprint Touch 6900 by modifying the Registry settings.
The wifi is enabled on European models but is disabled on this American model.
I found a nice Registry editor here, and looked around in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE but couldn't find the wifi.
I'm asking if anyone knows their way around the Registry could they please post the proper settings?
The icing on the cake would be if I could get the wifi button to display in the Comm Manager just like the European models. I'm also wondering if I flashed the device with a new ROM would that do the trick?
Any help or Good Orderly Direction would be greatly appreciated and Thank You for your patience.

Ok I've made some progress on this front for the benefit of other folks who might be experiencing the same difficulty that I am.
Here's a link to MSDN for WiFi Drivers and Registry Settings for WM6.
HTC Tech support claims that wifi is enabled on the GSM phones but the CDMA phones were experiencing difficulty connecting which is why the wifi functionality was left out.
I asked if I could get ahold of the wifi driver for the Touch and they were less than forthcoming.
The driver is a single dll and if anyone could post a link to download one, that would be amazingly appreciated.
Ok even more progress, I'm quoting another poster on another forum:

I called HTC today and they told me that the Wi-Fi hardware is physically missing on all of the CDMA-based Touch models, so don't get your hopes up with the registry hack. What sucks is that even if the new Spectec microSD Wi-Fi card cooperates with the Touch, you still have to chose (or swap) between memory and Wi-Fi since you can't have both at the same time.
Apparently, the CDMA carriers just want to promote their own data plans and not sell fully-featured phones. This makes some sense if you believe the theory that the best feature-laden phones are all GSM because there's a push to eliminate CDMA, thus the CDMA carriers have to peddle their data plans at large discounts to keep customers. $15/month for EV-DO is pretty darn cheap compared to AT&T's ridiculous data plans...
Yes, yes, I know, many will say "why bother with Wi-Fi since EV-DO is faster?" BUT the internet isn't the only network worth connecting to out there. Plus, there are probably many places where EV-DO coverage is lacking so Wi-Fi is a good thing...
They also said that the GPS is just the E911 type - no ROM update can make it any more capable than it currently is. Oh well...

BALLS!
I have been looking for wifi registry in my xda stealth for over one year and found that the registry settings for Wifi differ between different pocket pcs ....After a previous upgrade. the wifi button disappeared from the wireless manager and going to HKLM/system/state/hardware/wifi showed many things....when I followed the above link when the wifi key disappeared, it showed DWRD/DEC value 0 AND by changing this to 1 the key returned but was not working....after another rom upgrade the value had changed to 5 but the wifi was not working...changing this value to different numbers showed different wifi states like unavailable/connecting/ connected etc although wifi utility will tell wifi off!!!!

Elfin always thinks its roaming

Wifi power mode
Does changing this from best battery to best performance actually make any difference?? I haven't been able to see a difference.
If there is a difference, is it just in range or would it also affect the speed of data transfer?
EDIT: Wrong section. Could someone move this to general HTC Touch?
My HTC Touch P3452 (Elfin) always seems to think it's roaming (I get the little indicator that look like a pointy arrow).
I'm with fido and this used to be a rogers phone that was unlocked and had onyx put on it (by previous owner).
Any ideas??
same issue
me too. my only concern is if it affects our elfin's performance. especially when using gprs/edge.
bump...anyone?

[Q] TMOUS HD2 Not showing correct signal.

I did a little searching around but didn't find much useful.
Anyways, About a week or so ago my HD2 running ChuckyROM-23125-Tabtastic.Jun.30.sfx, started displaying only the E for Edge data speeds. Normally, I would always have an H.
Any help?
May be the Rom, were u always using this Rom? Do you have the latest radio or software update? If not try updating your software or radio for your band. You can also try a different Rom to see if you have the same issue.
Good luck.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
ive been using this ROM for probably two months? idk a long time though.

That's odd that it would start acting that way out of the blue (which is what you're thinking, I'm sure lol).
I don't know for sure what's causing that, but here's where I'd start:
-Make sure that your network settings on your data connection haven't somehow gotten switched to "GSM" instead of "WCDMA". If you see the setting is at "Auto", then go ahead and select "WCDMA" and see if that clears it up
-How old is the sim card in your HD2? If it's more than a year old (i.e. you brought it over from your previous phone), you might want to get a new one from T-Mobile...it seems that older sims can have compatibility issues with the new HSDPA network that's being rolled out.
-If neither of those two help out, then try a flashing a different radio (just do NOT use any .51 radios, those will brick your US HD2). I know the one you've been using has worked fine until now, but again with the backend changes Tmo is making on the network, it's possible that the one you have just doesn't do as well in your location anymore.
Other testing methods I'd suggest include seeing if you have the same issue in other areas than you're usually using, and also see if anyone else you know in the same area on Tmo is having the same problem.
i believe it may be my SIM card. It is over two years old and has been on every phone i've owned(about 6).
Also, i couldn't find anything about changing from GSM to WCDMA, only something about enabling and disabling HSDRA/HSUPA

Yes, I'd def say it's time to get a newer sim Please post back here and let us know if that resolved the issue.
In the settings tab on your slider, click on "wireless controls", then tap the "phone" entry (not the swich, but the bar to the left of it), and on the following screen scroll to the bottom and choose "change baseband"...then you'll see the options there under "network type."

[Q] Signal strength/DB meter

Im looking for a signal streght/ Db meter for my phone. Currently running Energyrom, Touch pro 2, CDMA (Verizon). Ive tried searching the forums and using google, even tring bing, but couldnt find one. I know they are available for blackberry and android, but couldnt come across one for winmo. Any suggestions. Thanks in advance for your help.
FieldTest.exe?
I don't know if it's included in Energy ROMs.
Does something need to be changed in the registry? When I run it I only get -99 for all the tower info and nothing changes.
You can also type in *#*#364#*#* on your phone dailer to get there.
Looked in my windows folder, and no fieldtest.exe in there. So im assuming it was taken out of energyrom. I've also tried dialing that number, found it on another page, and it doesnt work. Any other ideas?
Attached FieldTest.exe

i get that also. it only seems to work right on 2g
I just realized it works when you change your connection to GSM only. If your connection is on 3G WCDMA, you need to hit index then WCDMA and you can see your signal change there.
