Imagio = Whitestone = CDMA Topaz = CDMA Diamond2...just saying cause it isn't obvious - Imagio General

I just thought that posting this topic would help those people looking for information on this soon to be released phone by Verizon (perhaps Sprint will release thier version too).
I'm sure that this subforum will be very busy soon and this is just a beacon for people to find their way.

I'm not so sure it's the Touch Diamond 2 after reading this lol. Seems we need to rally for our own forum and get out of the Topaz forums hahah.
Review: http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/HTC-Imagio-XV6975-Review-review-r_2280.html
One of the more successful smartphones for Verizon over the past year has been the HTC Touch Diamond. We were hoping to see a Verizon release of the Touch Diamond2 later this year, but it appears that the HTC Imagio XV6975 will take the place of the original model. The Imagio is similar to the Touch Diamond2; however it has grown in size in order to add a bigger screen.

Since the HTC Imagio is not part of the Diamond series, it loses the uniquely designed diamond-cut back that we’ve come to love. Instead the Imagio has a 2-tone back plate...

Either way, can't wait til the forums get rolling with Imagio-specific tweaks and stuff!

Topaz is not the Whitestone. We need a Whitestone section soon. =)

I agree, we need a separate Whitestone Imagio forum

...and move the threads under Topaz CDMA to the Whitestone forum

oh who cares what it's called? the signed ROM is out:

lets get cookin!

New forum ----- agreed
We need a whitestone/Imagio forum.

No. The TD2 is codenamed Topaz. (see AT&T Pure) The Imagio is a derivative of the TD2 with a larger screen and such, codenamed Whitestone. Due to it's larger size, stuff like cases will likely not work from TD2s.

There is a belt clip on Verizon's website that I just ordered today for my brand new Imagio; just search for accessories under the HTC Imagio there. I did find custom screen protectors by searching on Bing.com. The clip should be in tomorrow and I'll post a 'review' but I haven't had trouble with Verizon's after market holsters.

The Imagio is a derivative of the Touch HD! It is NOT a topaz, there are fundemental differences from the Topaz!

It was a link from bing actually to e-bay. Here ya' go:

I got the single one as had good luck with this one on my Mogul. Hasn't come in yet but I'll let you know...

Ok, got the aftermarket holster from Verizon and it fits great, feels solid, and costs $19.95. Part number was VZW6975HOL and is rubberized plastic. I'll post back after I get the screen protector in.

Notice I did not say it was the same as Topaz and called it Whitestone. I said it had similar internals to a Topaz but has a bigger screen. If I recall doesn't the HD have a MSM72xx CPU and the Imagio has a MSM76xx? Both running at 528MHz however.

Looks like PPCgeeks moved the Imagio threads from the Diamond 2 forum to a new Imagio Forum.

yeh they did...now we gotta get XDA to do the same...

A mod already shot that down under the general discussion forum. I don't understand why as they are not the same device as stated. I guess too much work to add it or something. I can't imagine a new user to this site looking for info on their Imagio would ever check the Diamond 2 forum instinctively...

as a new user specifically looking for "whitestone" information, i agree.
after a quick search i was directed here, but was a bit surprised to see it didn't have it's own section.

Also surprised to see Whitestone without its own forum, although I had to try and figure out what the codename was. Shows you how much I know.

I remember reading somewhere that when the spy photos came out last February or March even HTC said "Whitestone not a Topaz" next to the photo or in the summary. In a forum where master brains will spend countless hours reworking roms from other phones, it can't take that much time to start a new forum. Hopefully the mods will come around before this forum really gets rocking!

Maybe we should see if we can be placed in with the Blackstone folks - after all, aren't the Whitestone and Blackstone virtually identical?

Competition for the Kaiser?

OK, it's not strictly Hermes related and so shouldn't necessarily be in this forum, but was the closest I could think of
Like many here I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Kaiser to replace my aging but trusty Hermes. It seems to fit the bill perfectly but that could be because it's the only device that has everything I want. Or is it? Are there other devices on the way that I don't know about with the following?
GPS
3G
Wifi
qwerty keyboard
wm6
Lee.
Scratch WM6 from the list then Nokia's E90 has the rest and some more!

Its about time they kill the IR... it doesnt have much use these days anyway, especially since HTC havent made them very powerful lately... but thats my opinion
google for the Imate ultimate 7150. No GPS, but the 3.5" VGA screen & 18mm thickness might make up for that.
I looked at the Ultimate 7150 but decided that it's too wide for me - I wanted something smaller than my old Motorola A925 in every dimension!
A colleague at work is deciding between the Ultimate 8150 and Kaiser - The Kaiser won out today and now he's just waiting for it to become available.
It was the keyboard that swayed him in the end.
Cheers, Oggy.

Looks promising but I think it would be a while before you would see this on a WM device
I bet that 90% of the cooked HD-roms will contain that interface within the next 6 months
And it looks very promising
greetz
It is new UI for Android OS, HTC loves to make UI for different OS
Windows Mobile ==> Touch FLO 3D
Android ==> HTC Sense
I love it's analog clock
I want it

Did your preview ROM (released as a preview around the 16th june) is built using Manila or is it a WM version of HTC sense ?
I used it a few hours and was very nice
Yep
That would be also cool if htc would make a plugin system for manila (on futur htc sense) like on WM6.5 main interface to make it easy to develop new tabs (I want a twitter tab )

hey, just ordered a blackstone a few days ago... and saw HTC sense today. I just want it! what do you think, will HTC sense be available for the blackstone too?
just read the posts above, maybe it will be available, maybe there will be a new WM touchflo version... in your opinion, should I leave my order, buy a blackstone and hope for HTC sense made available for it, or should I wait for more HTC sense devices like the hero?
a really really hard decision!
thx!
This is another reason why we need Android on the HD. HTC Sense is so much more fluid and finger friendly.
absolutely. this is a MUST HAVE. can't imagine better then HD with sense...
LOL - Talk about wishful thinking.
HTC no longer support the Touch HD, theres no way you're going to see such an update for it.
would be interesting where you've read/heard/got that info? I just read an article, John Wang: "HTC Sense will be available for Android AND Windows Mobile devices in the near future." (tecchannel.de, in german)

Worthy Touch HD follow up, when?

Im waiting for a while now for a followup of my Touch HD..
I want a phone that is faster AND have a keyboard.. are there any rumours about such a phone yet? i can't find em and i can renew my subscription with a new phone soon..
The Nokia N900 should fit the bill perfectly. The screen is already much much better than on the Touch HD.

Any more upcoming devices like this?
Well, I don't think it's going to have a keyboard, but the HTC Touch HD 2 should definitely be faster, and it willl run Android based on the rumors...
Nokia's a piece of junk! you can have your horrible Symbian UI!
Why start another of these topics? on the first page at the time of this post theres already two of exactly the same genre!
Sorry to say ,but you're missinformed:N900 is powered by Maemo, based an opensource linux, not symbian.

Sprint Hero ROM pics

I went to a Sprint Store today and one of the reps had a Hero he had gotten over the weekend in preparation for the launch on the 11th. I got pics of the ROM info page while I was there. Someone who knows more than me can see if this includes the ROM update from HTC and if there is any other valid info. Considering he got this on friday and the release is the 11th I think this will likely be the version that is on the launched device.
IF THERE IS ANY INFO IN THESE PICS THAT REVEALS THE IDENTITY OF THE SPRINT REP PLEASE LET ME KNOW SO I CAN EDIT THEM. I DON'T WANT TO GET HIM IN TROUBLE.
eh, maybe I'm late to the game. Or maybe no one cares.

That's the same ROM that my phone has. The phone you saw was an advocate phone, not a final release version. Our ROM isn't final, since we cannot download Pandora (only available on official ROMs). There is a lot of talk that the final production version will have Donut (1.6) since it's the only Android ROM that supports CDMA. My guess is that the advocate ROM is a modified version of Cupcake, and there will be an update available at or near launch. Hopefully.
Don't get confused by the marketing name 'Hero'.
The Sprint 'Hero' is not a branded Hero for Sprint like the 'G2 Touch' for T-Mobile. It is a new device, built for Sprint with different features like CDMA, Android 1.6 and - most obviously - very different in hardware design. It has only two hardware buttons compared to six on the original Hero.
HTC's roots go back to manufacture OEM devices for big providers, and the Sprint 'Hero' is such a device. If Sprint wants an ugly version (my personal point of view) of the Hero and pay for it, they can have it ...
The Sprint 'Hero' is not as close to the original Hero as the new Tattoo. But marketingwise Sprint seems to need a 'Hero'

you might wanna recount, i see the same six buttons on the sprint as on my htc, they are just different shape and not single buttons, just count the symbols around the trackball!
Indeed - whilst the other buttons look more like "touch sensitive" buttons, rather than "click push" buttons, it doesn't change the fact that they are hardware buttons.
Regards,
Dave
That's what I wrote 'hardware buttons' are buttons you can press on and get physical feedback ...
The other 4 are sensors or sensitive areas, this is really different. If you don't believe me, compare the Touch HD and Diamond 2 ... I personally like 'real' buttons for a few actions like phone on and off, home and menu ...

It is only different with respect to the physical mechanism, which is going to be part of the case. The actual phone innards itself won't know any different.
The point is that, radio aside, the Sprint Hero is much, much, closer to the original Hero than it is a Tattoo, which is a *completely* different device (lower screen res, resistive screen, no track ball, lower memory etc, etc, etc).
Regards,
Dave
According to this phonedog.com video review of the Sprint Hero, that area isn't actually a touch panel anyway and the device does have physical buttons underneath the panel which are depressed when you press the appropriate area.

I used the phone and those are in fact hardware buttons. You press them, they move, you get physical feedback. They aren't touch surfaces. Sorry to call you out here, but I believe I can since I have used the phone (though briefly). Just because they are flush with each other and not separated buttons like the dial and end keys doesn't mean they don't move. Plastic flexes.

Sprint Hero uses a hacked version of Cupcake 1.5 with the Donut 1.6 CDMA stack added in and maybe a couple of other things. There have also been problems with apps from the new market for 1.6 not installing/working correctly with this version of the Hero because of it still being 1.5. SPRINT/GOOGLE/HTC can we get some info on what the deal is with this I want Donut on my Hero and or Samsung Moment

Help me start out understanding Android

Hello,
A friend of mine has an Android device (SIM unlocked TELUS HTC Hero running on Bell Canada) and I've recently become interested in seeing what he could do as far as flashing ROMs, rooting, etc.
I'm thinking about getting an Android device at some point in the future, so I also see the advantage to understanding the Android paradigm.
I'm currently a WM user (HTC HD2 T9193) so I understand that setup of .nbh ROM images, .cab installers, HSPL, et cetera, but I don't really understand the Android paradigm that corresponds to that.
I've searched around these forums a bit, but I can't really find anything that helps me get started (all the WM ROM Development forums have great stickies with enough information to get you started). All I've really found is directions for rooting the device, which sort of helps...but not really.
If someone could be so kind as to information or link dump in this thread, to give me something to read to understand better, I'd be most appreciative.
No detail is too minute! I love information!
Thanks a lot!
P.S.: Total aside, but Swype for Hero, does it exist? Searching the web seemed to indicate that it only is available for WVGA devices (N1, Droid/Milestone, Desire), but there's always that chance of XDA magic...
I'm writing a series of Android Explained guides.
Give me a week or so...
There's plenty of info in these forums, its just its really well hidden...
I can answer your Swype question though! They're working on it, there's a beta available, not sure if they have places left on it though. Head over to the MoDaCo forums and you should be able to find out some info on how Swype is coming along.
Florida.
i remember a while back before the swype beta was released i got my hands on a swype apk, cant remember where from tho. used it for about 2 weeks on the hero. was great, slightly buggy tho
Yes,a guide with explanation of several terms of Android / HTC
would be good!
Example:
What is "Root","HardSPL/SPL","Swap","apps2sd" etc.!
I had exactly the same issue as you, but eventually I got so sick of winmo that I threw myself into the depth and bought a hero. After that I think i used i stock for about two or three weeks looking on forums for nice things to do with my phone.. Eventually I began to learn more and more about rooting etc. (theunlockr.com is a nice website)..
What i'm saying is, there are so much cool things to discover when you buy an android powered device. It's fun to just go for it and find stuff out...
I understand it's probably a big investment.. But you will not be dissapointed!!!

I'm not going to go HD2 ==> Hero, because that's a serious downgrade IMO.

I'm a big WiFi tethering junkie (my buddy who actually has the Hero isn't so much...he's more paranoid about rooting, which is why I'm trying to do all the research/reading possible), I don't know if that's possible on Android without rooting, but from what I've read it's not [possible], so that'd be why I'd root on day #1.

Personally with WP7 on the horizon -- and how awful it looks -- I've resigned myself to the fact that my next smartphone will be an Android-powered one.
I'm waiting to see if there'll be a GSM version of the EVO, because so far that's the only Android device that's caught my eye (given that I currently have an HD2...the downgrade in screen size is what's made me discount the N1 for now).

I also pointed out that I searched around a bit, but couldn't find salient information. Both of the WM devices I have experience with (TP2, HD2) have stickies all over their boards with all the relevant information you need to get started.
Why is that idea lost on these forums?
My point is, why ask here in particular?
You obviously haven't searched very hard, and not researched other Android devices before posting on a section that, in comparison to others, is lacking. Look at the Magic/Nexus One sections maybe? I know the Magic has a lot more info than you'll find here.
Or here's a bright idea, try the wiki? or even Google!
