HTC LEO Images - Touch HD General

Reading through a blog, i found this interested pics of the new HTC LEO phone. Worth a look !!
http://www.slashgear.com/htc-leo-caught-in-wild-1456328/

HTC Leo pics. It is real thing with WM6.5
Found this
http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/14/htc-leo-spotted-in-the-wild-sports-gargantuan-800-x-480-display/
So far I have only 3 concerns
- 3.5" audio - can not see it
- And backing seems kind of ugly
- Also lower buttons are almost on the edge of the device - silicone cases may suffer from this

This is what i'm waiting for...
Welcome LEO..

the 3.5mm seems to be on the bottom of the handset, next to the mini-usb. There is a slightly extruded bit if you look closely.

And my coworkers mock me for the size of my Touch HD...
Thats one HUGE phone.

Now I see it at the bottom. Strange design

can't seem to find stylus slot from the pics above. Capacitive screen?

I believe so !
4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800) capacitive touchscreen display
Windows Mobile 6.5
Qualcomm 1GHz MSM 8250 Snapdragon processor
Wi-Fi
GPS, A-GPS
Accelerometer
Light & proximity sensors
3.5mm headset jack
Digital Compass
5 megapixel auto-focus camera with dual LED flash
512MB flash memory, 320MB RAM

wow that's a really big phone.
I was thinking about buying it when released but the size is really... big!

well it seems like the size of the htc leo is somewhat similar to tosiba tg01.

My new Phone.
When we see the pics, it's not too big compared with a Touch HD.
But the question is, when can we buy it?

Is it HD2?
its so big...

it would be a shame if they had an iphone

I thought that 6.5 didn't support capacitive screens, that that was something we were going to have to wait for 7 for.

well although HD was the ultimate fone, still we did see the sluggish and the lagged size of the fone, thanks to the newsense ui launched by htc which revived the dieing windows mobile htc hd fone,
all i expect from this fone is to be fast, and with the processsor and enough ram onboard i hope to see LEO outperform its cousin TOUCH HD.
i just wonder how it would be ANDROID + SNAPDRAGON + XPERIA 2 PANELS + SENSE UI = LEO ULTIMATE PHONE 2009

the pics are nice.the phone looks v nice.but like most guys here its a little too big.wonder if it will fit into a pants pocket.i dont like to carry the phone in a pouch around my waist like some old dude

I read that WM 6.5 will supports capacitive screens, no ?

I could well be wrong, I just had it in my head that it didn't, hence my confusion.

looks charming spec sheet wise, though judging by those side-by-side pics with the TouchHD (which is already on the edge size wise) , it will be ridiculously big
other concerns being that it's thinner, yet has a larger display, more ram and a twice as powerful cpu : will that lead to a shorter battery autonomy?
and if the screen is indeed conductive it will be annoying having to zoom in rather then using the stylus when web browsing or using some of the more ppc-oriented windows apps.
we'll see

Improved Touchflo

Looking at the new Touch Viva HTC have annonced the pictures show a slightly different touchflo:

Is the analog clock and advanced weather tab available now? As I can't find it anywhere, or is this something that is going to be launched with this new handset?
its a 2d version of tf3d, for low end phones. there are community members working on a port for our diamonds.

Dude thats one of the sweetest HTC device I've lied my eyes on...
ROM : 512mb
RAM : 288mb
Everything else seems not much different but..
GOSH
Diamond HD is the sweetest thing ever, and there are quite a few changes too.
But fine she is, can't wait
Rumors are this phone id out in December? I'm due upgrade in November
can we stay on topic please!
Yeah, the clock is nice, and I kinda put a new thread out there for it, but I guess will have to wait for the phone to come out so it can be extracted from the ROM, otherwise a imitation created from scratch.
maybe wrong placed here but i didnt want to start a new thread for my quick qeustion.. what is better our diamond vga or the hd wvga??
wvga is 800x480 and vga is "only" 640x480
the only reason Touch HD has that resolution is couse its screen is way longer

Maybe a simple search would do the trick...
But anyways here goes..WVGA is known as Wide Video Graphic Array, and apparently from what I've read is that is has better picture quality then a VGA.
Theres not much info on the net but try searching for WVGA and it will answer ur question dude.
I'v seen a video on youtude of a GPS that uses a WVGA and has a Nexuschip or something.
But it brings images to life, like playing a racing game..Hope this helps ya bro

okey here's how it goes Touch HD has way bigger and mostly longer screen and because it's WVGA resolution that is same resolution as VGA but "longer or wider" so there should be no difference unless it just simply has better screen manufactored for it.
or to put it another way, pixels per inch are the same.

but Touch HD screen is wider than the one in Diamond and there are the same amount of pixels in width (480) soo ppi is different
after calculation im sure that Diamond has higher ppi
Diamond 285.71 PPI
HD 245.51 PPI

So basicly it will have the new snapdragon chips.
Probably running 1Ghz, and having a 8MP camera, and a 3.6 size screen...

I don't know anything about the Snapdragon chips, but I really wanted it to have the nVidia Tegra chip. The demo of that is amazing, and the Zune HD will have it, apparently.
Thanks for the info
UGLY design
Smaller screen?
I thought there were more larger screen HTC phones coming? I make fun of all my iPhone friends with their dinky 3.5 inch screens!
Hmm if it really has a smaller screen than I´ll better buy me the toshiba tg01 with it´s 4.1" screen! Ok its bigger than the touch hd but its thinner too (just search google pictures and type: touch hd tg01). And it also will have the 1GHz snapdragon chip. The video performance must be also great on the toshiba as you can see at some sample movies. And you can easy adjust the cpu speed on it when you don´t need all the speed and more battery power!
So if this here really will be the next touch hd than I really have to say "bye bye htc for the next months".
I´m sorry for my english
isn't that a russian touch hd on the screen? (google "touch hd yota")

I used to have a hermes, I now have an HD, and however much I try I can't type on it!!!!!!!!
So I need a hardware keyboard.........................
I know the Touch Pro 2 is due out June. I think this is the Rhodium.
But what comes next after that with a HW keyboard??
to be honest, after using the X1 keybaord, i never believe in HW keyboard.. anymore...
it was horrible
btw if hd 2 is really 3.6 inch only, i feel it is a step back.. big screen is GOOD.

Yeah, too bad
But now hope HTC will do something!
If not I am seriously thinking on move to Tsosh K02....
There is no real device to upgrade. I have tried three devices, XDA Flame - very good, but without keyboard, Touch HD - nice display, but no power (Qualcomm), hard to control (no buttons, no dpad), no qwerty, Xperia X1 - nice, but to small and no power (Qualcomm).
Touch Pro 2 has not jack 3.5, has not flashlight for camera, has not so big display as Uni and has not so big keyboard as Uni . And yes, there is gps.
I think HTC Leo with hw qwerty could be a solution .
Yeah, perhaps the touch pro 3 that is a line with keyboard can be a good succesor (if HTC launches...)
If not tosh k02 looks promising
Please vote!
a friendly bump!
It has to be the nokia N900 for me - I use my uni as a portable Linux box with UMTS/GPRS always on internet access and i've been waiting 4 years for a another phone with good linux support, display res >= 640x480, qwerty keyboard and 3G/HSPA that still fits in my pocket (so no netbooks)

Ya i also thought but then will there be great rom cookers like we got here for HTC... probably not... so best option stick to HTC or lear how to cook yourself
and here is what could be another successor...
looks better than tosh KO2
Yes it looks much better, but what is it?
Brand?, mockup?
It´s not a question of learning to cook ROM´s, it´s the limitations of hardware on our beloved Uni´s
We have great Chefs here and I´m quite happy with their ROM´s

Well it's intel's first shot at the phone market ... finally intel comes into phone market... the specs hasn't been confirmed it says intel atom processor, sd slot along with 2 usb host. 47 buttoned keyboard, with tracker ball... well it's most likely be Rodhium 3 than uni-2...
18 cm * 5cm * 2 cm... mobile phone?
HTC HD2 !
Guys !
I am mesmerised by HTC HD2. I am finding it very difficult to resist. What is your advice ? How long should i wait before i get one ? Any changes expected in firmwares after 1rst release ?
Uni will continue to remain with me.
Leo is great but if no hardware keyboard is not an option for me
I would wait 6 months and sure HTC will launch Touch Pro 3!!
By now I can happily wait with a Touch Pro 2

HTC Shift VS Fujitsu u810 - opinions please

I currently stuck on deciding between two devices i thought id post here and get some opinions from shift users.
I currently have a Samsung NC10 wich is brilliant but ive stopped carrying it around because its too big tbh and i need to trade up for something more portable.
Both have:
- Intel A110 (Stealey) 800mhz
- Intel GMA 950
- 1 GB RAM (ddr2 i think?)
- 40 GB HDD (4200 1.8"?)
- 1024x600 (i presume both squeeze the res down?)
Fujitsu u810:
- Size (w/h/d mm) - 171/152/32 mm
- Better keyboard
- 5.6 inch screen

HTC Shift:
- Size (w/h/d mm) - 207/129/25 mm
- HSDPA
- 7 Inch screen
The way i figure therye both getting Win7/XP & Ubuntu dualboot the u810 bas i big chunky battery so they end up verry similar size wise and that 7" screen on the shift is nice.
But i have had issues with HTC, ive owned 3 different htc devices and all 3 have had faulty mini usb sockets, and i worry about htc build quality and software/drivers in general, my touch pro is a complete disaster.
I basically just want opinions, im leaning towards the shift but it htink the ppc part is pointless really and again build quality?.
I like to know if there are any common gripes/faults with the htc shift or has anyone used both? What is the shifts build quality like?
thanks for your input. funk
HI,
I like the HTC and never had a problem with build quality (4x Universal, 2x Xperia, G1, Kaiser, Shift). ((right, the Xperia is another story ... ))
Shift is really good and massive.
I have a Sony UX380 also so can compare the screen sizes. My opinion: the Shift with 7" screen is better to use and see.
Keyboard is fine on SHift, fast typing is possible.
Built in 3G modem is a very big positive point.
I don't know the battery life on u810, but my shift can run with 3G approx. 2hours (the battery is not a new one). Without wireless it is longer...

well with the u810 i would have to buy two batteries anyway because it comes with a huge extra life one and id buy a smaller one for evryday use, the u810 claims 4 hours but without the big battery sticking out the back it will be about 2 hours. So i wouldnt mind buying a spare for the shift, and atleast the screen size will take up most of the face of the device in tablet mode.
(note the u810 glamuor shot above doesnt show the bulky battery version ofc)
Dilemma solved ?
Hi,
Look, the Shift is a "HYBRID"" on of a kind device, which is extremely
well built and feels solid as , well, a brick.
HYBRID... meaning, there's a second computer inside, which is a Windows Mobile Phone. SO you'll get an "always on supersize PDA" AND a Windows7/XP computer)
Having said this, the decisive buying factor for many owners is the advantage for having a PDA with a gigantic battery which allows for a weeks work in Winodws Mobile (AvtiveSync, Browsing, Email, occasional calls and SMS), anything you'd do with your PDA, there's a GPS inside to have you use Google Maps etc... all WITHOUT booting an OS like ubuntu,Win7.
Then, when the task at hand requires "a(ny) netbook/" you simply
boot your OS of choice and have your go with that.
You can't leave that out of consideration.
Yeah they are very different devices. You would never be able to fully compare the two device due to the differences in hardware.
Personally I would have both if somone were to give them to me! They are both very neat little devices. Personally I think the Shift looks better. The U810 looks very chunky, a bit dated.
well ive made my purchase , thanks for the advice, (and the seller told me to try xda developers for more info and help) hehe

Diamond to Iolite

Hi there
I have cracked my screen on my diamond (O2 ignito) and am claiming on the insurance for a new phone, unfortunately they do not stock them and they are offering me an XDA Guide (Iolite) as a replacement.
I'm not too sure as to what this phone is like. Has anybody used both these phones with some comparisons or just pro's and con's of the Iolite?
The 2 things that strike me most is the lower resolution QVGA screen and the lack of ROMS and chefs compared to the diamond rom developement.
Thanks for any responses
compare the technical params and look at the covers - Iolite!
Greetz!
You can add to the cons of the iolite the lack of a G-sensor, or FM radio.
As you said, unfortunately the popularity of our device is really not that great, compared to the polaris community, or the diamond community for instance.
We have great cookers here, not as much as on those devices, but great anyway.
Still, as you can see in the picture below, the battery of our T4242 is great, much better than on the Diamond :

}
Bottom line, it is a great device, great hardware, but has its pros and cons, as all devices.....
great info thanks,
The low res screen I think is the thing that is holding me back atm
This is my opinion. Iolite is much much nicer than Diamond (in real looks even better than on pictures), has longer run on battery. Cooked ROMs' quality is equal as for Diamond (well, less cookers, but this is not negative). And to be honest, I don't need VGA display at all. Only G-Sensor and FM Radio can be missed. So it is up to you .
I compared the speed of a iolite under 6.5, and a diamond with a 6.5 too, the difference in speed was huge, in favor of the iolite.
The screen is one big drawback of this device, but it gives great battery life so...
It is a drawback if you surf a lot on your device, if you don't, you will hardly miss it.........
The Diamond has a QVGA-screen too, isn´t so?

Nope, it is a VGA screen (640x480).
Although we love our Iolites I probably would not agree with this offer. I'm not sure how is it with claims in your country but if you are going to get replacement you should get the device with similar parameters and if it isn't available you should get the money refund which is IMHO the best solution if you payed full price. Diamond's successor is the Diamond 2 I'd expect this one to receive as a replacement...
I personally prefered Iolite over the Diamond but it may be different in your case. Here are main Iolite's characteristics I considered when comparing to D1 (I might forget somethink though):
- only QVGA (!)
- fix-focus camera (-> blury shots)
- no FM radio
- no g-sensor
- no magnetic stylus
- not so popular -> not so wide community support
- only one two-color led
+ better battery life (!)
+ better GPS precission (!)
+ microSD card slot (!)
+ better performance (however, partially thanks to lower resolution and simpler Touch Flo 2D)
+ basic accessories already in the box - car kit (holder+charger), simple pouch
+ mechanical navigation ring (works much better than the touch sensitive one on the Diamond)
Well, for me diamond vs iolite is in favor of iolite, but diamond 2 vs iolite is not.
All the drawbacks of the first diamond are corrected in the second...
Therefore, maybe you should look in replacing your diamond with a diamond 2?
The only "weak" point it has compared to the diamond is the stylus, which is not magnetic...
