Official App For facebook now on the android Market! - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Official Facebook app for Android literally just released minutes ago on the Android Market!
I come across it browsing the new apps and it was right up the top!!
Get it while it's hot! It has been long awaited!

Just got it and i like it, however, it still sort of buggy and certainly will be updated soon...
If i click on pictures someone posted from the feeds, the app crashes. Some of the functions will launch the browser, but it's a good start.

** Quick update **
Does come with a widget , No Live chat and No access to Inbox

This app need too much work. Please match the iphone app.

doesnt do much, i was hoping to be able to access my facebook phonebook. but nope.
in a way its better than x.facebook.com because you can comment and like stuff.

double post sorry.

You can access the facebook phone book as a live folder on the desktop. Just press and hold > Folders > Facebook Phonebook.

Yep , The facebook phonebook is pretty awesome ,
I wonder if the iphone app has this? Damn facebook favourtising the iphone and leaving android high and dry for quite a while.........
I wonder if it is even possible we will have the chat function in this app?

Its an early release so it sucks...Hopefully they will correct the bugs

It's not a tuma!
Err I mean, it's not an official facebook app. It's just called "facebook" and it uses facebook's icons, which may or may not annoy facebook itself.
Check out on http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=74769995908 :
This application was not developed by Facebook.

The Facebook mobile team had a "mixer" for it and everything:

Better Facebook app.

Does anyone know if theres a way to check what people wrote on the "my wall" section on the standard Facebook app?
If not, any better facebook apps out there?
Use touch facebook.
Code:
http://touch.facebook.com
That's the best version of facebook, the app lacks a lot of stuff

I like Facebook IM ....
I like facebook.com
not facebook mobile.
not facebook touch.
straight up facebook full-site.
The Screen is large enough to display it legibly.
The processor and network speeds are fast enough to load it quickly.

Good Facebook App??

Does anyone know if there is a decent Facebook app out there? So far I've tried the default one that came with the EVO, Bloo and Facebook Touch and they just don't do it for me. Is there a Facebook app that is as good as say, TweetCaster or Touiteur with a decent widget?
Cheers...
Not one that I've seen, unfortunately.
You're better off sticking to the browser. Facebook on Android blows.

I know. If there was just one that was as good as TweetCaster... that would be tiiite.
I am fairly disappointed by how many options there are for Facebook, and how poor they really are. I find myself using the full website more often than not.
I still open the official FB application first, just to get a quick look, and if I'm still bored, I'll open up the site. The friendstream stuff, and the feed updates on contacts are pretty worthless, IMO. By default, there are like 3 different services pulling FB feeds, and there should only be one. I liked the way my Palm Pre worked, where everything was integrated into the OS--even FB chat.
Just use the browser. Another option is "FULL SITE", which gives you the desktop version of facebook.
Too bad they can't get the developer who created the facebook for iPhone app.

Need Old Version of Gmail

I got the update to gmail 2.3.5 today and it broke some widgets like gmail unread count. All i get are FCs. Does anyone have the last version of gmail? Care to post the apk
From something awesome

Crap I need it also. My TB has been skipping it. I thought no reason to back it up...
Hi
This one i have ripped from the oldest ROM i had
Hope it can make you smile again
The version i reverted to is 2.3.4.1
From something awesome
The latest version does not permit any other app to read emails which is ridiculous.
-untick automatic updates
-uninstall update

To be fare none of the old versions specifically allowed for emails to be read. It was a work around that allowed apps to read the gmail.db directly that allowed apps like unread count to do what they did.
Apparently this undocumented "api" has chabged somehow
From something awesome
The READ_GMAIL permission was granted to every app, now it's only granted to apps by google.
If it's granted to every app, it's kinda of an api.

Yea i guess the permission is a standard one but there was no method calls or dedicated classes for accessing gmail. I don't even think there was a public uri for accessing the database.
I guess it was somewhere inbetween an api and a hack

Gmail 2.3.4.1
The Contentobserver still works, one possibility would be to read the database as root then.

Exactly. If devs never ever used undocumented APIs, MANY apps would be neutered and lack numerous features that allow the android versions to be much better vs. the iOS ones. One huge benefit of open source is the ability to find/utilize tweaks and such that the original programmers never thought of themselves.
Not only did it mess up permissions with other apps, the 2.3.5 update has been giving me separate notifications for each of my gmail accounts on my phone. Since I have two, it's now taking up twice the space instead of having it all in one notification like before.
This is just a crazy 'upgrade' to something that was working great. So do they expect every app that wants access to gmail to have to use the wireless radio to query the gmail servers? Was it really so insecure to have mail read from a db?
I have actually been working on a gmail widget that used the permission READ_GMAIL but now im not even continuing to pursue it

facebook showed up on the market

Not tab optimized
Er, I hate Facebook. But, can't you just use the browser for it?
Friendcaster works great on the tab!

I have it, I paid for it because it work great but then it was updated and tab optimized and the issues began. Some stuff will not show up on status updates, I can no longer sync to my contacts, which was great because my texting app (heywire) would show a picture of the person I'm texting with. Also if I click a photo someone posted it shows a completely different photo.
All that also happens on my cell phone along with the tab. I check it in the web browser now but sometimes the app was just faster and more easy to used.
Even though it's not optimized, I'm glad they finally updated it to include support for tablets. I was using the Samsung Social Hub before and just installed Overcome's ROM so I can get rid of the Hub now.
I tried FriendMe, Friend Caster, and just found Facebook (official?) apps. I still prefer to use the browser...
Facebook app keeps force closing. Can't check friend list. And it seems slow to load anything. For me the web-based UI is what I am familiar with and the one I seem to keep going back to.

Facebook app

When I try to upload pictures on my FB via the application, it reaches 100% and then I get an error that the transfer failed. If I do it on the browser it works.
What seems to be the problem? I am on HC 3.2 and my Xoom is unrooted.
Works fine here. Try signing out, clearing data, signing in, and trying again.
No, it didn't work.
I can't see my albums either.

TBH, that app is flaky as h*ll, adn gives nothing but problems. I use the mobile browser for most facebooking. It's far superior. However, that doesn't answer your question...
I seem to remember the latest version of that app fixing that issue. Are you on the latest by chance?
Yes I am. I even removed and installed the app again.
No answer here?
The best thing to do for your Facebook needs is to download a third party app or possibly search Google for the .apk of an older version and sideload it. A lot of people have been complaining about the latest update in the comments on the Market page for the Facebook app.

I do wish they'd release a proper tablet version of their app already. The current app looks alright even if it's stretched but a dedicated tablet version would do way more justice. Then again, the Facebook people dragged their feet developing an Android app before they finally released their own so them dragging their feet here doesn't surprise me.
They drag their feet with the Facebook Android app while constantly screwing around with the layout of the site confusing users who are already still coming to grips with the last layout change. That and just their way of doing things in general would have had me delete my account long ago if it weren't for that site being my only means of contacting certain people.
