ok i have a few questions...
1. is the GPS locked down or do i need to DL a new ROM
2. Can i unlock the SIM card slot (by pay party or for free)
3. where can i find Custom ROM's (possibly with Unlocked SIM)
Can i install TomTom or other Smartphone GPS app and will it work (or custom rom for that). Thanks!
first things first..for Verizon its known as the Ozone, the Snap is what Sprint has it labeled as.
ok now that we cleared that up..onto the questions.
1. stock Gps is fine..not locked
2. sim locked as in...can u use it on a gsm network? im assuming thats what u mean and if thats the case yes. but if not all u gotta do is call Vzw and tell em ur going out of the country and they'll unlock that for u. the device is CDMA and GSM enabled.
3. u can find custom roms in the Maple Rom Development forum. the only one available ( which by the way is a great start ) is the one created by forum member Ookba..take a gander at the thread u wont be disappointed.
4. yes and even more of a yes. the Custom Rom is application and registry unlocked so u can go nuts installing whatever and getting the best out of it.
if I unlock the Phone with custom ROM can verizon still use the GSM unlock tool when my phone is 90 days old?
ok on my vzw ozone there is a black line protecting the SIM card from being taken out.. (black line with some type of metal protection). Its holding hte sim card in... can i rip that out? or not? (want to flash and need to remove SIM

Ripping that out would not be wise. That is the brace that holds it in place. There is a tab that you push down at the end of the sim card. Push that in and slide out the sim. Practice makes perfect.

Pretty much this. But I'll add that since the Verizon SIM is new, it is thicker than most used SIMs (wear and tear) so it is in there quite tightly. When you push down on the tab you might not be able to slide out the card still. I used a paper clip to push from the back to get the card out. My ATT SIM goes in and out just fine though, but it is quite old and worn.

Hi there,
Some time ago I purchased a KING OF DOUBLE CARD for my MDA Compact. It seems however that this card is not functioning in my PPC.
I am using a MDA Compact with the original T-Mobile ROM. I only partly installed the cabs because I wanted to get rid of the ugly T-mobile colours.
Could someone please provide me with some help?:
1st: does anyone make use of the KING OF DOUBLE CARD
2nd: What Rom do you have
3rd: Do I have to install something in addition?
etc etc.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best regards
Wilfried
dont know any answers, but I do have a question...how did you make it fit?
I thought it didnt fit in the HTC Magician....so I bought another and carved up my SIMs
works fine though, using Wivit SIm Status Switcher with it to switch SIMs..
you could try it, its a great app
which model did you buy? what do you mean by "carved up my SIMS"?
He probably means a ghost sim, where you cut the chips out of two sim cards and out them into the ghost sim which is normal sim size.
Hi there,
It is a model where you don't have to cut your sims.
Yes you are right: it doesn't fit that easy however with some pressure on the back of the phone it fits.
The problem however is that my phone doesn't recognize the damn card.
I am cosidering to throw it away and take a second phone with me for the other SIM. Again waste of money. hmmmmm
Best regards

Double SIM work fine on my XDA mini
Hello all,
Just want to share some info, I use Almighty Bicard on my XDA mini, and it's working fine on it, just turn on your flight mode, then turn off your flight mode than you will get your second SIM.
Or you can use SIM master or SIM MAX, it can handled 8/12 SIM no. on 1 SIM card, but some time you have problem to scan your original SIM card.
Thanks, Vireman
Can you point me to the specific dual sim you use??
I bought the ghost sim and couldn't get it to work, I tried on 4 old sim cards and decided not to cut up my work sim and personal sim.
I have been looking for the other typoes which take the full sim cards.
On another note it may not work because you will need to get the T-Mobile phone unlocked to work with another companies SIM.
My work sim is o2 and would only work after the MDA was unlocked.
You can phone T-Mobile ans they will send you the code to do this for £15.
Hallo ishgrnod,
I use Almighty Bicard, You need to cut your SIM chip and put it together on Almighty Bicard. It work like a switcher, If you restart your phone it will switch to another SIM.
Mostly in my country there no phone lock from the operator, I think your problem come from this side.
Thx. Vireman
Isn't there a universal phone unlocker already on the forums?
I use this cut up dual sim in the UK:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6415916094&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MEWN:IT&rd=1
from this user:
http://feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=slam1416&iid=6415916094&frm=284
Works fine. Just have a steady hand when you cut, measure twice, cut once
I use an O2 contract and orange PAYG. Some reports say O2 contract doesn't work. Mine does, no problems.

I bought a King Of Double Card for my MDA Compact. I cannot get it to fit at all.
I don't really want to chop up my SIM cards either :?
OK, UPDATE:
I got it to fit but the phone will not recognize the cards. I'm using WiViT SIM Status Switcher.
Can anyone suggest recommend a different tool ?
I'm on
ROM Version : 1.12.00 WWE
Radio : 1.12.10
ExtROM : 1.12.131 WWE
WiViT isn't likely to be the problem - it just reads the operator from your network, and the sim phone number stored in your Sim; you may not have one stored in there (I bloody didn't and thought my EVC programming was at fault). See WiViT's faq, or basically open up Sim Manager on your phone.
But, ignore wivit, just ensure you can make a telephone call with either sim. Then, switch over with STK or flight mode off/on and see if you can make a call with the other Sim. If that works, then your problem is with WiViT. If it doesn't your problem is with the sims. See my other posts on these cut up sims - basically, i think Magician doesn't put enough pressure on the back of the "mini sims", and you need to stick some paper down the back of the metal sleave.
V
PS See the thread on Magician today screens to see my Wivit type software...
Hey V, thanks for the advice...
My problem was down to the single SIM end of the Dual SIM not making contact with the connectors in the phone. I have the King Of Double Card Type, as shown in my crude mockup below. ( I dont dare take mine out to take a picture since it took me all evening to get it in right. So please excuse the picture.)
WiViT is working perfectly now, i made sure my own numbers were stored correctly as you suggested, and all is well.
The only problem is, the back of my MDAc is slightly out...but i can live with that i guess (until the MDA Pro (HTC Universal) is released)

Is it possible to somehow hack my phone/sim to include two different phone accounts, one being Tmobile and the other Cingular? I dont like carrying around two phones.
you dont need to hack ... it already exist ---- you can buy Sim card with 2 or more telephony provider ... (got 2 czech providers) -.-- when i want to got Vodafone, just a few click, and it will tell me new messages and missed calls, and after i switch to T-mobile and i can continue my work

WoW, didn't know you could get a sim card with two providers on it. My friend got this knockoff iPhone a while ago. Was a really bad knockoff. So bad that the warning label on the back of the phone (where it stated that only apple can use THIS apple logo) was mispelt (lol) waring. Anways back to the original point, the cheap knockoff allowed you to put in two sim cards at once. I can't wait for someone to implement this feature into a windows phone so you can use 'em both at one time. Very useful for us canadians who don't want to shell out a thick wad of cash to use the internet, and would like to use a second sim card for a data connection.
hey
dont mean to thread jack, but can do the reverse? get 2 sim cards with the same info? i love my wing, but for work i need a regular phone. one that is simple, and able to make calls asap.. instead of unlocking, entering a pw and pressing the grn button and than fumbling with the touch screen.. for work i need to be able to flip the phone open with one hand and call emergency numbers as fast as possible, so for work i take my sim card out and put it in a reg tmo phone.. would love to be able to use both phone with 2 diff sims.
any 1 know if its possible?
i know its possible in the netherlands (also t mobile) here its called something like "sim duo" better ask your provider

Should be able to do it with no legal issues, I would think (if you're in the US).
Back in the day (12 - 15 years ago), phones were easily purchased with dual-nams (I had one from Motorola), which is how multiple phone numbers were assigned to a single device before the advent of SIM cards, device locking, long term contracts, etc.
You can get a dual-sim adapter from a couple of companies, but here's a link to one that has several types and lists their compatibility with various phones:
http://www.simore.ch/en/
I used a dual sim adapter briefly in a QTEK. It sucked.
If memory serves network locking is about to become illegal here in UK so I imagine dual sim kit will really take off here shortly.
I'm trying to find out if anyone has tried doing this. For some reason when I install the sim from my gophone in the HD2 it doesnt say that there is no sim present, but it also wont give me the option to unlock the phone or make a call. If I hit the phone button nothing comes up. Oh yea, Mines the T-Mobile US version >_>
does it work with a regular t-mobile sim card?
Some phones require sim unlock with original SIM carrier in it - once code is typed in then it easily recognizes other SIM cards (AT&T in your case)
I have the unlock code for my phone. I just cant get the panel that asks for it to come up.
Oh and no I cant use it with the regular card because I have to go to the local tmobile shop on monday. I was told by tmobile that some how my sim number must have been a reissued number because it was registered to someone else and now I have to go pick up a new sim card.
My AT&T card was not recognised by my 9193 at first.
I had to put it in and try several times. Pushed it way down in the slot after lightly using a pencil eraser on the contact surfaces and off it went. Hasn't missed a beat in a month.
It's odd, cant seem to get it to work .. It doesnt say there is no sim like it does when I completely take it out, but it still wont let me bring up the phone panel. I've tried wiggling it, Putting it in 50 different ways... nothing seems to work.
Hello all, I bought a used HD2 off CL (USA), hoping to unlock it (if locked) and use it with my ATT prepaid sim.
Outwardly, the phone looks fine and everything about it works quite nicely, EXCEPT that when I insert my SIM card and start the phone, it shows me an exclamation mark on the antenna icon. When I disable all wireless connections and then re-enable it, the icon now changes to the SIM card icon with an 'x' next to it, and I am shown a screen with a keypad and the following message: 'The SIM card is missing. You can still make emergency calls if your service provider supports it.'
Thinking it was a ROM issue, I successfully loaded the latest ROM from [showthread.php?t=789506] but it did not resolve the issue. There is no issue with the SIM because it works nicely with my AT&T Samsung a607. There are no signal strength issues either.
Please help!
Can someone please provide some insight on my situation? I hope I haven't posted in the wrong forum; if so, mods may move it to the appropriate place.
Any advice on diagnosing the issue will be appreciated; I don't even know why the phone is acting the way it is. Many thanks!
Wait a moment, so your device isnt already SIM unlocked? Sounds to me like you need to go ahead and get an unlock code for it, then navigate to the \Windows folder and hit up the program called "simlock.exe" and input your unlock code, then try your ATT SIM again.
Thanks much for the reply. Other phones usually prompt for a SIM unlock code by themselves... why doesn't this one?
Running simlock.exe from Windows does give me the message "Network is locked, please input unlock code". Before I buy the code, I want to make sure that there's nothing physically wrong with the phone. It should give me at least *some* sign that my SIM is being recognized, but rejected due to network-locking, no?
Thanks again!
See thats the thing. With a foreign SIM card in the device, IF LOCKED, simlock.exe should run automatically on startup and ask for the code....so honestly I do not know if your device is messed up somehow, or if its just being wonky for the sake of being wonky. Perhaps you might want to flash a new Radio ROM and see if it then recognizes your SIM. BE SURE to NOT flash one with .51 in its name.
Thanks again. Can you point to a thread with detailed instructions for flashing a new radio ROM for my device? I found many threads while searching and I am confused. I don't want to choose the wrong instructions and brick this device; I haven't done anything of this sort before.
Look at the top of these forums for a stickie by Snarksneeze that will teach you everything you need to know.
Hi again... I don't have a spare 8GB MicroSD card lying around. Is there any way I can do this flashing over USB? I did read that there's a risk associated with flashing over USB (cable yanks, power loss, etc.) but I did flash the newest ROM without any issue, and hopefully I can do the same for the new Radio ROM.
The Radio version shown in the 'About Phone' section is 2.14.50.04, btw.
You can use your 16GB that came with the phone, or any other one for that matter. That requirement is more of a recomendation really. I have flashed with my stock 16GB many times. And yes, you can do it via USB aswell.
OK, so I have more information about the problem. I got the phone unlocked (I heartily recommend 'fastunlocker' on eBay) thinking that it would solve the issue... but it didn't. But, on a lark, I tried my friend's post-paid T-Mobile SIM in the HD2 and it worked! My AT&T pre-paid SIM does not... can this be a problem? The damn thing works nicely in other (unlocked) phones.
Is anyone else successfully using a AT&T GoPhone (prepaid) SIM on a TMOUS HTC HD2?
It may very well be the problem then. I have heard that some phones are incompatible with pre-paid SIMs.
God, that would suck donkeyballs. Can someone confirm that an unlocked TMOUS HD2 does not work with AT&T GoPhone prepaid SIMs?
had this same exact issue and realized that one of the pins in the sim card reader was stuck in the down position. I poked it with a small screwdriver and it popped back into place. works like a charm now.
Thanks for the reply. Are you sure this is the issue? As I mentioned in a previous post in this thread, my friend's T-Mobile SIM works nicely with the phone.
EDIT: Also, are you using it with an AT&T GoPhone SIM?
Bump... anyone?
Final bump: maybe I am SOL. :'(
Is anyone successfully using a TMOUS HD2 with an AT&T Prepaid (GoPhone) SIM?
Give it some time. Sometimes threads at XDA stay dormant for months and then suddenly BAM! a breakthrough happens.
I would say its your sim. How old is it?
I had the exact same problem. I bought a HD2 off cl and put my sim in and got the no sim message and exclamation point. I was using a sim from the voicesteam days but guess what it worked just fine in the Nexus one I had just gotten so I figured it had to be the phone. I finally used a friends sim and it worked fine. So I would turn the phone off in settings then slip his sim out with the battery still in and put my sim in and turn the phone back on. Guess what, it would work for about 10 min then it would suddenly go back to no sim message. So I went and got a new sim from T-Mobile and walla works like a charm. So try what I did and if you end up with the same problem try a new sim from AT&T. I don't know what is different about the HD2 but there something about the older sims that it doesn't like.
Hope that helps!
Hey... thanks for ther reply! My SIM is brand new (about two weeks old). I will however go to the AT&T store and get it replaced to see if it fixes the problem. Thanks again, I appreciate it.
Dear look my problem...

Howdy folks,
New to the Aria family - bought an unlocked Aria on eBay to use in Manitoba on MTS' new "4G" network. Brought it in today to get a new SIM card, but when we put the SIM card in... it got no service. They claimed it must not have been unlocked, so I brought it home with me and tried it with my wife's Rogers' SIM card from her iPhone... and a minute after plugging in the card - voila - it had signal and I could make calls. Head back to MTS, and try again - no love.
Any idea what might be causing this? Rogers and MTS both use 850/1900 frequencies, so it isn't that... the phone is running 2.1 stock as far as I can tell.
I don't see any reason why the Aria would not work for you. Is it an AT&T branded device? (i.e., has an AT&T logo on the front of the phone)

Yes, it is - and there are AT&T apps and a "splash" screen on start-up... but one non-AT&T carrier SIM works (Rogers)...
Would it have anything to do with using a mini-SIM (like, not punched out from the normal size card)?
It shouldn't matter. I'd probably go back and try again with a different SIM. Maybe it was just bad or something.
Even if the phone is locked, it should tell you "Network locked" and ask for a PIN instead of saying there is no signal. Also make sure you are reattaching the back of the phone when trying it because otherwise your reception will be bad.
Edit: Here's a random video showing what it looks like if your phone is SIM locked. (This is not the Aria but it looks the same.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UV2ALQxUnI#t=44s
Yeah - then I would say my phone is NOT locked... as I had suspected.
I'd like to try a fresh SIM rather than using an already active one, perhaps.
Would the fact that Rogers uses 850/1900, and MTS only uses 850 be an issue here? I'm pretty sure the phone supports both...?

Thank you very much! That was the answer for me. Duh, didn't realize the antenna was part of the back.
