Hi all,
Today i finally got my Blackstone and have configuring to use with my next work. I think I got everything configured except for a strange issue with text messages. When I receive a message, it shows the received time as 5 hours off. I have checked the regional settings, it is showing correct time, I am in eastern time zone, is there something else I should be checking?
Thanks in advance.

i believe you are on FIDO network . it's not your problem.
is your text message from another time zone?
LOL, being on Fido network will cause this?? Actually I am on Rogers, but they are both owned by the same company anyway...
The text message was from another Rogers customer in the same time zone.
try getting sms from a few networks first . i think its the network problem most of the time
Ok, time to wake up some people then....
Found work around
I think I found a work around. I am not sure if this is the right way or not. I set the time zone to London GMT with Eastern STD date and time and it seems to be doing the trick for now.
I had the same problem as you and I'm also on rogers. This seemed to fix it for me.

That did it, thank you very much. I needed to install the cab file and then do a soft reset. It's working as it should now though, thanks again.

yep, there you go, never trust cell tower's time zone, who knows where your text message went before reaching your nearest tower.

Hahahaha oh great, like if I wasn't paranoid enough about the damn phone companies, you had to mention this More fuel for my paranoia!!
Will this cure the problem in getting sms from a different time zone and it not displaying the time difference?
My Trinity used to do this perfectly but on the Touch all messages from CZ come through as my local time

I don't know if this will help in your case, cause in my case my text messages were showing London time zone.
Hi All,
Anyone on Rogers having issues with text message timestamps being off by a few hours?
I'm in Regina and any received SMS messages are two hours ahead of my local time. Changing from automatic network time to manual time has no effect.
It looks like text messages are being sent out with Toronto local time, no matter what the receiver's location is.
It appears that this is happening to a number of users, but Rogers support is useless - suggesting hard resets and returning the 'defective' device, which of course have no effect.
See: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2859
So anyone else that is having this problem, sound off - call tech support, reply to this and the above link, and hopefully Rogers will get this fixed sooner rather than later.
Hey Skawty, I'm in Regina too!! How you liking the phone? I just picked mine up on Wednesday and loving it. Anyways back to your point, I don't think it is possible to have a correct time on SMS, I haven't had any correct timestamps on any of my phones with Rogers, so we may be SOL on this part.
in edmonton here with the same issue. picked mine up today.
I don't know if the timestamps were off on my old krzr, they could have been and i would not have noticed. However with the threading by timestamp on this phone it really makes it annoying. There had better be a fix for this soon.

Looks like a lot of people complaining. I'd think they'll fix it soon.
this helps for now... kind of

WORKAROUND (sort-of) i’ve been using chompsms instead of the the messaging program, and it seems to thread everything correctly. chomp for whatever reason puts your time stamp on the same time zone as the received, so if you are replying to a received text with EST time stamp, chomp makes yours EST as well.
works for sending too… the initial msg you send will show your proper time, the reply will in est, then when you reply it will be in eastern, threading properly. rogers still needs to fix this though!
Hey, i imported the Tmobile G1 a couple months ago... i also noticed that the time was off on sms's. After i rooted, flashed a new rom and radio is was fixed. But now i am on the Hero rom and once again the time is off. So it seems that the it is not an issue with the radio, but maybe the build. I remeber i saw the right times wen i was on JF builds. I will try the Rogers rom again and also one of JFs roms again and let you know if the timestamp is fixed.

Confirmed. I am using a t-mobile G1 with a Rogers Rom and live in EST. All my received texts are stamped with toronto time
I am running the rammjet rom built off the rogers and have the very same issue.
Though it seems sometimes if i have it open and am texting back and forth to the same person it will work properly.
Doesn’t matter what rom or software you are using on phone. This is a Rogers issue at the network level. They are the ones that stamp message.
They are aware of issue, but it seems very low on priorities to them. Guess they don’t understand sms is not just for teens to giggle these days. Its important for business and as far as I am concerned, a big deal
I have contacted them several times and get one of the two:
“No idea what you are talking about” << Love these replies from any service call
Or
“We are aware of the issue and are working on it” << No time frame given, so really as pointless as above
In any case. Don’t be running around looking for an in-phone fix because you haven’t done anything to mess with the time stamp. Doesn’t matter what you use for sms or what os you have on phone
Chomp helps by keeping things in order, but doesn’t fix timestamp. Rogers has to do this. Will they and when????? Who knows?
G1 Dream
I had the same problem with a Tmobile G1 Dream im not sure if they are exactly the same software but I fix the problem changing some of the APN settings give it a try
Good Luck
Good day, I recently purchased the HTC Touch Pro 2...great phone by the way. I also am experiencing sms message time stamp errors and I have tried everything...do you have any suggestions?

What settings did you change? I'd like to try this.
I know that it isnt a fix, but what i did was adjust the timezone to gmt -2(4 hour offset in regina) then manually entered a time, so now my messages are in the correct order. the only problem with this was that now all the events in my calendar where 4 hour out. so i went in and changed the timezone in my calendar to match the timezone on my phone, and moved all my events up 4 hours.
I know its not a fix, but until rogers does something about this it will work
There's an app on the market called SmsFixTimes that I wrote to help with this problem, until Rogers or HTC fixes the firmware. This is just a regular app, no hacks or anything else required. You should be aware, though, that it has only been tested by me so far, so it is at least possible that it could change the timestamps to something completely unexpected... you've been warned.
The app listens for incoming SMS messages and adjusts the timestamp to your phone's configured time zone automatically. The notification in the top bar is still wrong, but when you click on the message it will have the right time. If you run the app from the main app list, it will also go back and fix all of your saved messages (but only do that once! And maybe wait for an incoming message first, to see what happens!).
Since this is just a regular app, if you want it to stop you simply have to uninstall it from your phone. Comments and suggestions are welcome.
Hey natmanz, I've been checking on the Market since your post, and still no sign of SmsFixTimes. Is it just me, or has it not shown up yet?
[Edit: It finally showed up.]
Fix coming mid-august
I just spoke with a Rogers rep who told me that HTC are currently working on a patch that should be ready mid-August. Until then there's nothing that can be done aside from changing the time on your phone or using chompSMS as an alternative
Its fine for a while, up until you go past a few hundred messages in the thread. IE its me and my friend firing off during summer classes, and while its my solid wall of sent sms, and then his wall of sms, after a certain point it becomes 5 of mine, one of his, then none of mine for the next 50 in the thread. Annoying.
...Rogers. Bane of my existance. Bold works fine, iPhone works fine, maybe this is a sign that Rogers isn't giving enough of a ****? Because if it was a berry or iphone theyd be all over it. thank god bell/telus are going gsm, I can take my nice phones and business elsewhere, and fyi cant speak for telus but bells service on my omnia, rocks.
Hey guys,
I just recently bought my TD2 just over the weekend...and when receiving text msgs from my friends, there's this 4 hour difference in the time stamp. For example, I'll send a text msg at 10pm, and when I receive a text msg five minutes later, the time stamp will be 6:05pm.
Would anyone know what the issue would be? Cause I'm really stumped by this. I even sent text msgs to myself from my phone carrier's website and it's the same thing, the time stamp is 4 hours behind what it actually is..
Any suggestions or ideas is greatly appreciated. =)
I'm fairly sure the time stamp for incoming text messages is dependent on the time your service provider says it was sent, not the time your phone actually receives it. So if your network provider is based in a city with a different time zone your incoming text messages will be time stamped at the time the message was sent in said time zone, not your own.
I'm not sure if there are any settings to change this as I haven't really looked in to it a great deal. It's just kind of annoying and can make conversation threads kind of pointless.
my network provider is based in the same city as me, so there shouldn't be any discrepancy in terms of time zone.
I'm starting to think it's a WM6.1 bug or something like that. I've tried hard resetting it but it doesn't work. I've also tried putting in a different sim card from a different network provider and the issue is still there.
so..im stumped even more...
you could send a notification to HTC. I've been reading these forums for some time now and I haven't encountered anyone with the same problem. Or, then again, I might be mistaken ...
4 hours does seem a bit extreme. Do you have any friends on the same network as you? Can you check the time stamp on a message that you've sent to their phone to see if it shows the correct time?
I only say it's network dependent because I know that when my country has daylight savings time the timestamps for all of my messages get messed up, but when daylight savings time is over it's fine.
It depends on the service provider.
Some service provider use the time the msg is pushed to your phone, while others use the time when the message is sent. So, if your sender is in a different time zone, there may be a time difference.
I've checked with friends that are on the same service provider. The text msgs i send them have the correct time.
I even send myself a text msg to see and it'll be the same thing again. sending it to myself is just as mind boggling cause i receive my own msg right away, and time stamp is 4 hours behind still. -_-;;;
Did u set any "Visiting Time"? I never encountered this since I bought my TD2 last month. Guess it could be related to service provider?

No, I believe you can only set either Home or Visiting Time...
I flashed my phone with cooked roms hoping that bring it to WM6.5 would fixed the issue, but it hasn't worked...
Is your problem solved yet? I've the same problem and I've done everything nothing works, I guess i've to live with it. Mine shows 40 mins difference which is very annoying.
no luck at all.
I just played around with the time zone settings. i just put the time zone setting to est-1 since it's est -5 where i am. and then i just brought the time back 4 hours and it matched...but aside from that..nope..nothing.
I've seen some threads about the text messages coming in at the wrong time but at XX hours behind, being like a time zone thing or something, but I have it where the texts come in 2 - 3 minutes behind when they should do.
I love the conversational text messaging, but this is really bugging me cos it's throwing the order off massively!
I've done hard resets and soft resets but it just still doesn't have the right time. HELP PLEASE!!!!
same here ...

Well now when I try sending texts to myself, they just don't come through. Says they're sent but they're not, and just not getting them through. I'm on O2 UK
Damn this phone sucks!! I only got it on Wednesday too.
Me too, I'm on O2, if i send one to myself i get it more or less straight away but its a hour in front. My clock is set right and it says its sent at the correct time? Is anyone else who is on O2 receiving texts at the 'correct' time?
Weird, just sent myself one and its back to the correct time!

Urgh, I reckon I'm gonna do an exchange in the 28 day period when we get them back in stock and see if that sorts all, or at least most, the problems out, just having a new phone from new batch.
i had this problem.... tooo
it really terrbile as i wont able to know which is my sms with his reply
Ive got this too, i'm on O2 UK and messages i receive are all 2-3 minutes too early and so put the text conversation out of sync.
This has happened a couple of times to me, but usually leaving the SMS app and then going back in fixes it.
Either that or the person who you're texting has the time wrong on their phone.
ya they maybe set wrong timing.. but is petty hard to find ppl who had the time timing as ur hahah
so the sms should be basic on our clock
i used to have screwed up SMS conversations too. you guys can try installing the SMS fix. it is working for me for now.
SMS fix from where??
from HTC.com
i installed but it doesnt not fix for me
Any chance there's a daylight savings time mix up?
no... my time was setting correctly..
there is only one clock setting how can it mix up??
somemore is from same zone..
no fix for this?
I have had this problem too.
Try setting your clock right...
You can do something like: when receiving a message check its time and change yours to match that one...
It should solve the problem.
i just got the tmo us hd2 and it seems only after midnight some peoples texts start coming in a day previously. i just had 3 conversations and one person came at the right time, and the other 2 came as if they were 24 hours behind
I've had the same problem recently, I just assumed it was an O2UK problem, I had it very occasionally with my Diamond.
It's fine at the moment, so I just put it down to peak text time. Lol.
*edit* HA! I just got a text as a was writing this post, it's now 10:15am and the text is time stamped 08:53am, I should have touched wood!

Sorry but htis has nothing to do with the phone.
Im on O2 germany and everything works fine.
Maybe your setup was wrong or your provider has an issue.
SMS faults are mainly providerissues.
I dont know which rom you are using but i dont have any issue with the updated stock rom.
Hi there,
I live in Australia and today daylight savings for us has just started. We were supposed to put the clocks one hour forward and that is exactly what I did. My time is correct everywhere besides incoming sms messages. They are time stamped exactly an hour behind to what the current time is; i.e my old time. This is a huge inconvenience because when I'm having a conversation via sms, I will send a message and it'll be correctly timestamped and then I'll get a message back time stamped an hour behind, so when I'm looking at the sms messages I have to scroll up to read the newest one received.
I am currently on Tom Codons ROM and a I have just installed the "SMS fix" which I knew wouldn't do anything because Tom Codons ROM is based on the newest ROM available. Is there a way to fix this issue?
Any help is appreciated,
Alex
The way i understand it, the received SMS time-stamp is taken from the network system. Not from the phone clock. At least, that's how it works in our country.
Of all the phone i used, including HD mini, they always work that way. Except a couple of generations of Sony Ericsson feature phones, which would base the time-stamp from the phone's clock. (But the network's time-stamp still show up in the details of the sms.)
Maybe the network needs to adjust their system.
Hey there,
Thanks for your quick reply we shall see if the network systems clock has been changed in the upcoming days.
Thanks
Alex
You're welcome.
Hey all,
I have encountered a similar problem. If I receive 2 SMS of the same contact and I reply, if that all happens in the same minute (and it does ), HTC's Message-stuff puts the messages in the wrong order.
For example, I got an SMS and then I got another, then I reply, HTC will put them in this order:
SMS 1
My Reply
SMS 2
Instead of
SMS 1
SMS 2
My reply
That's because your phone time does not match the network time. Maybe off by a few minutes. Your sent message is stamped with phone time, logically. And received message is stamped with network time. So if you're engage in a continuous exchange, each sent and received messages differ by only a few seconds or minutes, then this kind of incorrect order happens.
Try to sync your phone time with internet time. This will lessen the chances of wrong order. But you can't totally eliminate it 100%. Unless the conversation exchanges happen very slowly (for example, one or both of your compose text slowly), with several minutes gap between each text.

Hey there,
Just wanted to confirm that my problem has been fixed. The network finally decided to change its time, resulting in the received messages to be time-stamped correctly.
Thanks bart for clearing up what was causing it. (I was tempted to hard reset lol...)

Wow, great! I like how your network respond to customers. Big company responding to individual users. Very good. Total opposite of HTC tech support.
