Much Thanks - G1 General

I'm very new to modding my G1, and this site was an enormous help. By reading around, I kinda got the feeling that some of the vets were getting annoyed by the hand holding they were being asked to do by alot of the newcomers. Also, by reading a few posts, I was able to root my G1, install a custom theme, and update my radio and all that manually. I'm happy to say this is my first post, and ikt's not a stupid question (maybe a frivolous thank you??). Thank everyone that contributes to this site. You guys are awesome.

As I've done before, I thank you for actually doing it yourself and not asking to be spoon fed and having your hand held as you said. Hope to have you around here for awhile. If you ever run into any problems PM me and I would be glad to help, if I can.

Yes sir...

Stop being so freaking mean

Dudes, I'm all for arguing but your going a bit too far.
Recently I've seen more than plenty of people getting pissed at newbies because they ask a commonly asked question.
They don't call them newbies because they know everything I just want you to take it a bit easier on them.
Who knows that newbie might be the next Dev that amazes us.
I'm sure most of you weren't treated like **** when you first joined and asked a question or made a error...
Just calm down and remember their new and they will learn.
Thanks
P.s. I hope I don't sound like a hippie.
+1!!

it's not really new. it's been like that in the vibrant section since i started coming to it back in like june....
but i agree.
You have some good points! At the same time some of the frustration people have on here is that people or newbies don't use yhe search option.
They go and asked the same question that was asked a page back or so!
The newbies are getting more and more lazy and aren't doing enough research before they ask a question!
I'm not an expert at any of this stuff, but when I got started with all this flashing stuff last year I did my homework are researched everything I could before I did my first flash!
If I had a question or even today when I have a question I make sure I browse the tread to see if I find the answer or use the search option before I go posting it for the 100th time!
Just my 2¢!

The interwebz has always been this way. You should of seen the G1 forums back on the day. I have noticed recently though that this happens when the natives get restless... aka: there are no new Roms or updates to flash and/or ppl check the forums way tooooo much and so it turns into the state we have now.
This will never end just to let you know. PMs and reporting post work wonders.
Know this. It isnt just these threads for this forum.
Its Apart of life and people get very fustrated with it. Case in point I had a guy call me at work and ask me how to work his computer.
Its people like this customer that make my head hurt.
He then proceed's to ask me how to get internet.
I say sir you must call att or timewarner or who ever can provide internet to you.
He then says " cant I just sign up over the internet with a credit card"
I think to myself "how in the hell are you going to sign up for internet over the internet when you do not have internet.
point of this is 1) its funny! 2) I get how you feel I use to get very fustrated with this sight. Some people just do not read or comprehend what we do. Other times I am just as dumb as they are.

Both points, have hit the marks!
I started to search for the newbie's and just post them as answers to people that are new to this.
But if i don't have the time of my life (I have a family too, and i'm damn old for this, lol), then I would just answer but with a courteous and politely tell them to search next time.

LOL, yeah, G1 days was...umm... let's just say, it was 'busy'. Shoot, the Symbian forums in the olden days was the same. People pester me with updates and crap, and making this change, and do that.... Oy.
I agree with All~G1, sometimes there are 'certain users' who can't take a joke, or too serious, or just plain jerk. So those I do report to Mods and it does work wonders...
The problem is that people expect everyone else to take time to help them but don't take anytime to help themselves (ie, searching for a solution before asking for one)
Ill admit I'm a noob to the android bit but to the tech or fourm world but iv learned in my years the google and forum search are your best friends when learnong something new that's how I found this site. However I have noticed that some threads on here may have 1000+ replys and the forum search here as with most boards don't always put you close to the answer you need so and I can see how other noobs who really arnt familuar with forums like this could find it overwhelimg trying to go through that amount of posts

Like any forum, search is your friend. You have a problem? First search and check stickies before asking. Them are the laws of the internets plain and simple. I'm not the most educated when it comes to android, but I try and answer questions the best I can to help out. When I see pages 1,2 and three of general chat all asking for help about kies update to 2.2, I get pissed too.
I think vibrant members are on the nicer side of the spectrum.
I understand using search isn't that hard, but new users may not be familiar to vbulletin forums and search feautures, but yes most of them don't even bother.
i went from stock 2.1 to rooted 2.2 flagship v4 just by using the search button. getting pissed might be going a bit far, but they do deserve a good jerkin!
I highly doubt a newbie or n00b who expects everything handed to him and his phone to be automagically rooted and flashed with roms will be the next greatest developer and i haven't even heard anyone be called a newbie ever in any forum but i get where your coming from

A little bit but you are right, I don't know why but the Vibrant crowd get REALLY rough and terse...... people need to show some compassion.........we were all newbies at one time........ good post
Search really isn't that hard. I've been flashing roms on here since Bionix 4 for 2.1 and I never did so until I read the stickies and did research. It's sad that they're not used as much as they should be and it's even sadder that in this day and age, searching key phrases for specific information is still comparable to college level calculus for many internet users.
Sent from my Bionix-V powered Samsung Vibrant that I customized by actually using search intelligently and never cluttering threads. Imagine that!
i haven't been around here for so long but i already know how devs and the experienced get so easily pissed at noob questions. i refrain myself from asking questions AT LEAST in dev threads unless it's absolutely necessary and my googling and searching forums wouldn't give me any clues.
i think devs must have been pretty passionate and must have offered to help, but with growing number of noobs-not all noobs- throwing dumb questions, making threads run hundreds of pages, i understand being passionate no longer is possible
Is there a newbie or beginner section? I think I looked at the xda forum a year ago and it just overwhelmed me at one point where I just didn't care about rooting. Then I met the samsung vibrant and it frustrated me to no end where I had to start reading up a little bit.

Thanks.

I dont know about you guys, but i was always taught to say thank you when someone does something for you which is helpful.
So thanks, to everyone who has made a modded ROM, posted a guide, splashscreen answered questions or generally dumped their hard learned knowledge onto the great section of the forum.
I was a mere noob, plodding around with WM6.5 and everything else stock on my HD2, and was thinking about dumping it and buying something new, then i started reading about android on it, and that lead me here and now i have a modded rom, splashscreen and i wont be buying a new phone until this bad boy either bricks or something better comes out.
Special thanks to whoever wrote/figured out about the whole Task29 thing. You sir are a fecking legend and deserve a serious pat on the back. As soon as i sort out my paypal account, you will be receiving some wedge for a beer from me.
Special thanks to the person who coded and compiled the Nexus Gingerbread ROM, so damned stable its untrue.
So, yeah, gushing aside, i've learned a lot in the past few weeks because of this forum, and i feel much better for it, so thank you. Sincerely, thank you.

Hello, I'm a noob to rooting, but figured I'd slip in a hello, I barely got my Evo 4G rooted with Revolutionary since going to 2.3. I used to do a lot of iPhone jail breaking and figured this would be the same....I'm learning that it's not...still not sure what a kernel really is hah, anyway, yeah. Hello.

Looking forward to getting more active here. Cheers.
Welcome to android. This site has really helped me learn a lot and I now feel comfortable modding all sorts of things on my evo. And like it was said, always search. There is a ton of info on here and if you can't find an answer, there are plenty of people to help

Hello and welcome! Lots of info here, just start browsing.
Welcome. Agree with the OP about reading.
What I did to help me learn before rooting my Evo was to just read through the threads in Q&A and General. It gave me a lot of small bits of information that I didn't find in the guides and stickies, and really helped me familiarize myself with what I was getting into. Once I started knowing the answers to some of those questions, I tried to help out. That's really helped me to continue learning.
I'm in the process of doing it again for my boyfriend's Thunderbolt, trying to decipher what small differences there are between the two devices. I know it's usually the other way around - the boyfriend does the rooting stuff for his girl - but we're a couple of odd birds.
Anyway, great to see someone new taking the initiative to search out their questions! It's refreshing to say the least. Welcome to XDA

I had to help my boy root his Thunderbolt and I just skimmed through the Thunderbolt threads for a root method that look similar and one that a lot of people seemed to say had little to no problems and went with it. He came from an Iphone as well and now has become quite a flashaholic. Every time I see him he has a new theme or trying new stuff. From what I have seen from that forum we share some of the same developers so it should not be an issue for you.
Honestly I know a lot of people get scared when messing with their phone but most things are common sense and if in doubt a search in here will help you out. Always read the OP over and over till you feel you got it down....
Enjoy and welcome to Android and XDA ...

I bet 90% (or more) of all "Help me!" type posts can be resolved with those few threads. Maybe another 5% need to be directed to another thread or two, and only the last 5% or so actually require more information than what has already been posted. If people would follow the XDA rules, search, and read what is easily available, most of them wouldn't have problems in the first place...much less need to make posts about them time after time. This forum has evolved nicely and people have taken their time to put together guides, solve problems, and create helpful posts. It is a slap in the face of those people when others don't take the time to read the information they made available. I see it all of the time, people saying, "but this is Q&A, I should be allowed to ask questions yadayadayada...). For some reason, to them, Q&A means I don't need to search, read, or learn, I can just ask a question that has been asked 20 times already (usually still on the first page) and people must flock to me with easy answers on silver platters! Of course, that is assuming they even put the question in the Q&A forum to start with. For some reason, they think they are above the rules or they are so special the rules don't apply to them. Q&A (according to XDA) exists to help AFTER someone has already searched and read on their own...not as a substitute for doing so. And saying, "but I searched", when it is obvious that no searching or very little searching was done only makes them a liar as well.
At most, people should only need to be directed to this information (existing threads). If they choose to ignore this help or if they think they are too important to take the time needed to read and learn...too bad. Fortunately, most accept the help and take advantage of the information, others, well I guess they just need to sit around, all butt-hurt, with their bricks.
And to those that get butt-hurt...No, I'm not a Mod and I'm not affiliated with XDA, I just follow the rules that I agreed to when I signed up...just like everyone else is supposed to. DO you?
...and this isn't necessarily directed at the OP, I just happened to say it in this thread.
This is not unique to XDA. People on all forums ask before trying to find the answer. It doesn't matter how much good info is posted, most users want to be spoon fed instead of trying to learn on their own.
Even with power of Google, we see people post " how do I ....." On forums first, when the same query on google will give instant answers.
I can't explain it, but we are all witness to it.

A lot of members like Axman have invested many hours in writing great "noob" threads. Very well done and easy to understand. What I never get is why folks invest a lot of money in this phone, and others, and don't want to spend time educating themselves on how to root it and flash roms.

I started those guides thinking that everyone would be talking about flashing roms, whats cool, whats not, and so on, made them so anyone new could even understand, I must have forgotten that people just want to get a phone and start rooting and such, without reading because his buddy said it was cool to root and flash roms, even told him, here go to this site and get roms, and flash them. Then the process starts, a continuous posts of I can't , and it won't questions.
What gets me, you know they are not searching, because the post right above theirs has their problem right in the thread title. Saw one of those yesterday somewhere.
Ka dumb a$s, duh!

This! Also I got very intimidated by all the people screaming at me. I did a bunch of research before I asked the question and was still confused hence the question I'm not an xda idiot but the s4 was already very big in modding when I joined whereas the infuse and vivid had just started to get cwm and root when I got them so I grew with the romers I apologize for looking so nooby since reading the first post I now have a auto Loki cwm and root access and am running the Google edition ROM thank you all for the suggestions and links

Don't feel bad sometimes we need to vent--nothing personal
I came here in early May from the One S and close to 3.5 years of flashing HTC devices with the advantage of unlocked bootloaders thru fastboot. But, still felt like a noob here--still do--
Odin/Kies/Loki were all new. Esp loki. I have spent hundreds of hours reading probably a couple thousand posts. Still learning. It does take a lot of effort to figure this out for some of us--like me.
But, a good investment as one needs to not only know how but why--to not lose a pricey phone--

Try being useful yourself by taking the time to search how to unroot. Honestly, i do not understand how someone goes through the extensive effort to unlock the bootloader and then root just to end up going back to step 1. It isn't that other user's responsibility to go out of his way to research for you. Go into TWRP and flash a stock boot.img.
Use the Magisk manager app to uninstall then reboot, go to TWRP then flash a stock boot.img of your current OOS version.
Don't be stupid next time and criticize someone for not doing the hardwork for you, hell i did it for you because i've got time right now to write this out but do us all a favor first before complaining and do the research yourself.
To call me stupid you could have got your answer where it fits. More stupid are you and the person who answers "Search" It's as easy as that but if you want to answer, DO NOT ANTI-STATE ANSWERS. The thing about being very difficult to rotate and then not knowing how to rotate will be for you, I prefer to reserve myself and not insult you more than what you have done. That said, it is easier to help or try than to insult or help in a derogatory way. You can also shut up and not write if you're not interested. And I ask what I want, nice people.
I'll be more gentle with your feelings

If you want to sit on your keyboard and act like a keyboard warrior because you can't find it within yourself to not be useless then that's on you. I simply said to do some research without coming on the XDA forums and crying wolf because you cannot do something on your own without researching first. I answered your question, i probably did more than what anyone would've done and that's including yourself. Take a moment to realize all of this. I helped you out and you quickly take the time to insult me because i called you out on your bull****, shove that stubborn pride of yours up your ass.
Literally all the time you waited for an answer and the time you took to write out your issue could've been used to try and solve your issue but instead you quickly create a completely new forum for your issue. Worst of all, you didn't even thank me for the reply i made that literally instructs you on how to fix your issue. If i was brief in my reply it's because i am telling what to do without handing you everything, be engaged by looking for a solution, but i nor anyone should or will do the work for you, use the internet because your issue isn't a oneplus 6t problem.
Take care dickhead.
Do you know what I really believe? That you have a problem with your wife, husband or your sexuality. I think you have not gone to the psychiatrist ever in your life and I think you should visit him. From my years spent on XDA, its always suggested that you do the search yourself first, and if you don't find anything then post. And its a pretty good habit, you get to know more things. So just do it.
I agree with you, but do not you think there are ways and means of saying things without insulting? They do not change my help for a insult.
