MT3G + Hero + Console App = no numbers? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

I am currently running [PORT] TF3D V3 By Drizzy for 32B on my MT3G.
I have noticed that in any console app, be it ConnectBot, or SU File Manager & Terminal, I am literally unable to enter a number.
When I longpress the "e/3" I get "e3" as output
When I press the "12#" button The VK doesnt switch to number/symbol mode
This isn't a big enough problem for me to try flashing other ROMs and testing, but thought I could put the communal brainpower here on XDA to try and narrow down a solution (unless it's unique to me lol)
Thanks in advance for the help!

you need to use the default android keyboard in these applications. The HTC keyboard does not work correctly. Currently i have not been able to find a resolution to that problem but noticed the same thing. Switch keyboards and works just fine.

Ok, thanks, glad to hear it's not just me going crazy.
The ROM I am currently using does not have the android keyboard. Any idea what APK and ODEX are named that I would need to pull out of a stock cupcake ROM in order to install the default android keyboard?

Well, I found LatinIME.apk in another ROM, but when trying to Install I get this error:
Application not Installed
Android keyboard could not be installed on this phone.
wtf?

You should be able to go into Settings, Text Input and uncheck Touch Input.
Then in messaging app or really any text area hold it down and Edit Input.
Should work fine.

The default Android keyboard will/should always be there. The HTC keyboard, the keyboard that comes with the SenseUI can be removed or changed back to the "Android" keyboard.
To do this:
1. Open your messaging app
2. Click and hold where you type a message
3. A box should popup and saying, "Select Input method"
4. Choose the Android keyboard.
Hope that helps.

Interesting. It sounds like it could be a ROM problem, have you tried just reinstalling the file?
If not, here's the file -- download, unzip, and push the .apk via shell/command prompt back to your phone, and then reboot your phone.
Code:
1. adb push HTC_IME.apk /system/app/
2. adb shell reboot
3. exit

The .odex file isn't really that important, its for the Android Dalvik JVM -- you can actually delete this file.
And did you actually get Windows 7 mobile to run on Hero?

No, it should not always be there, you need a "LatinIme.apk", i think you could probably pull it out of a samsumg moment dump and use it on 1.5

HAHAH, what a coincidence, I just looked up a AOSP 1.5 ROM for the dream to see if the music apk would work, and it does, I just posted it in a new thread. So I've already got the LatinIme too. Thanks alot! I didn't know what apk I would have been looking for

I stand corrected.
I pushed the HTC keyboard back over, but I'm still having trouble getting the text input option to come up. I've done it before, so I don't think i'm doing anything stupid... Just hold in a text field until it comes up, right? I think I'm gonna try installing swype just to see if i can change text input then.

[MOD] HTC_CIME v1

Thanks jonasl for this great work for HTC_IME!
However I was looking for HTC_CIME to work on froyo but couldn't find it, so I took some some spare time and modified the HTC_CIME from Hero 2.1
I have tested on froydvillain 1.5.0 and another device with eclair and it works.
And also, the settings for changing input method does not since it requires HtcAlertDialog Builder, I will look more into this another time.

Worked for me.. using the latest androidiani.. had to apply that LCD density fix for a normal sized ginger keyboard ..
Still thinking swype is the best virtual keyboard though
I can open that zip just fine. But anyways, I downloaded from http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/06/download-gingerbread-keyboard-for-rooted-devices/ and it worked fine, but still had to do the density fix.
Is this suppose to be multi touch? I hold shift and press a letter and it just toggles Caps...
Since this is just a rip from 2.3, I guess you can't do the feature where they hold Spacebar to switch to another language right? EDIT: Nvm, found it in settings, no language I want to switch to anyways lol
So does this only work on 2.2 ROMs and/or G.O.T.'s 2.2.1 Open Recovery? Or will it work on 2.1 ROMs as well (like the Telus I'm running)?

What I see is VERY small keyboard.
How can i change it to larger one?
To anyone who's using this, does this have an "enter" key in portrait mode? I only see a "smiley" in the videos, and I find a line break infinitely more useful than an emoticon.

You're right, that seems like a pretty glaring oversight. Though it won't bother me too much, since in portrait I tend to use the physical keyboard.
*edit*
that actually only seems to be in 'messaging' - try it in browser and it's replaced with a 'GO' button
ugh, it returns to a small keyboard after every restart.

Default Homepage on Litening Rom Change HOW TO

Hi Everyone,
I am in need to know how to change the default homepage of litening rom as it gos to the very first page when i push the home button.
I would like to go to the middle page when i push it which requires i edit a line somewhere and put the number 3 in it.
Could anyone help me and the many others who dont know.
Thank you.
rom of Cognition provide this function base on official launcher, but i prefer 3rd party launchers such as adw launcher, zeam launcher and etc. all of which are configable.
Me too
Hey guys,
I wan't another screen to be default, so brought if I press the home button, too. I managed to change it on stock Samsung ROM with this method
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096521
however there is no default.prop in system directory in Litening ROM! (I use 1.5).
So i wrote this ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=4 into the "build.prop" file of the system folder -> does not work :'(
Then I have written it to the "default.prop" file in the / folder (so nothing ) -> does not work either : Seems to be that the Litening ROM overwrites this file every restart!
Please someone help me
I am in the exact same boat as you now. It does get annoying always going to the first page.
So not 1 person knows how to change it?
Easy way is to use Launcherpro, you an choose the amount of screens and which to use as default.
Put the below string in default.prop file. Replace 3 with whichever
screen as default.
ro.csc.homescreen.defaultscreen=3
This will set the homescreen at start up, but not working on pressing home screen button.

I dont get why it doesnt work when you press the homescreen button? LiteRom definately needs the feature to allow you to change it.

This feature does not depend of LiteRom(only if he finds a way to modify the rom somehow)
This file witch we were modifying up to now is missing in the latest rom's so another way must be found.
Maybe somebody with more skills can help us of corse the suggestions of changing the launcher are not solving our problem.
we need solutions for touchwiz.
this makes me sad
I am very new to android and rooting and roms, etc. I finally figured out how to flash a rom so i decided to go with lightening 6.1. Its really frustrating when small things like these don't work.
I really hope someone can come up with a fix. I've also noticed that adfree android app also doesn't work with this rom and thats such a bummer. I dont want to go back to my stock rom...

[Q] How to change the default keyboard on rooted NST?

I have rooted my nook simple touch. Originally it was meant for reading only, but I write a lot too and writing on a computer screen is very straining as well as intimidating. I installed an app for takig notes on my NST but then I found that the keyboard isn't very nice on the nook. I want to change it. There are several keyboard apps on the market but none of them seem to work. I am not very much aware about the android system, so will someone please help me install a new keyboard? I don't need swype, swiftkey x will do. please help me install swiftkey x or something similar.
you have to move the apk file from /data/app to /system/app. Then use Nook Color Tools to select new keyboard.
I can recommend Hacker's keyboard (on market it is for android 2.2 and later but you can find somewhere on the forum link to a 2.1 version). Only cons is that it is dark but I have asked a developer and he is working on a different look (and hopefully also integrate 2.1 compatibility pach).
if you dont wanna open adb or anything, just do this
you can just install the app using Market
(or)
Download the apk from tto your computer. copy it to your SD card. Insert the SD card into nook and just open the folder in your SD card where you have the .apk and tap on it. then nook will ask for an install prompt and then proceed to install.
Once done enable the keybord from the app itself, or if you open NookColor tools you will have an ption to change the default keyboard

Just to add on to this, ICSKeyboard has a working autocorrect/suggestion system.
thanks everyone. I figured it all out myself. I am currently on touchpal and am loving it. thanks for the Co ordination
How did you get Touchpal to work. I installed TouchPal Tablet and the keyboard was all messed up?
What version of Touchpal are you using?
Hello, I'm also looking for a better keyboard (for Spanish, for example).
I've tried many (I like ICSKeyboard), but all they lack the key "Done" (required when adding notes in the stock Reader).
Somebody knows if there is a keyboard that includes it?
TIA,
jugaor
sorry I meant smart keyboard pro. its great and very customizeable. it also has Spanish language for it, and many more.
I think the done key is not dependent on what keyboard you use (its not available on the stock of course), it gets activated only in situations the app needs it to. so if the apparently commands the use of the done key, it will be there. I am not sure if this is correct, but I do get the one key whenever I want on the smart keyboard pro.
I have the same problem with the "Done" key: for example when I want to add a note to my books, I found I can only do that with the stock keyboard which has a permanent "done" button for me to press. Any other keyboard I tried has the normal "enter" key, but no "done"... pressing enter has the effect of a carriage return on the notes (that allow for multiline comments up to 512 char), but I can't save the note.
Anyone found a solution to this?
Thanks anyone!

Your post is my only hope left in the sea of misery of keyboards without auto-suggestion. I tried to install a couple of ICSKeyboard builds on my 1.2.1 Nook rooted with NootManager, but to no avail. Could you tell me where to find a cab of this ICSKeyboard working on Nook?
The TorimuNooter is not available anywhere anymore. The only image I could find is 06K version; it doesn't have this keyboard.
Clarification on installing a new keyboard: First you will need a browser with root privileges (ES File Explorer worked for me). In the settings menu, choose Root Explorer, then Mount R/W. Both "data" and "system" need to be set to R/W - otherwise I couldn't see the files and folders in data and I couldn't copy things to system/app). Find the keyboard install program (mine (graffiti) was not easy - I had to search for the APK). Copy it to the System/App folder. Run the install from that folder. That made it show up in the Nook Color Tools for me.
There must be a way to force the "Done" key to show in a 3rd party keyboard.. I use Smart keyboard to be able to write to my language (stock has only english) but the only problem is this "done" key not showing, although it show elsewhere..
