Can we unlock the registry for the Snap? - Dash 3G, Snap General

Anything out there yet? Trying to do the ICS fix to my registry and it's telling me ACCESS DENIED.
Also, is the Snap considered Maple or Willow?

i had the same freakin problem, the only difference is that i have a Ozone.
so what i did was i used the attached zip, i just followed the smartphone instructions and BAM worked like a charm.
and good question about the maple or willow..cause the Ozone is considered the "Cedar"...? why so many diff names ya know?
either way..try the attached zip, it might work for u too

Closer! Now I can delete or change things in the registry, but after a reboot the changes reverse back to original!
Anyone know why this is?

I also have the Sprint HTC Snap and I'm trying to get ICS working.
What's the preferred program for editing your registry? Can we get a reprint here of which keys we need to modify?
Thanks in advance,
Doug

Hi, i think i've got a solution for this on the Sprint Snap. first of all, i'm using PHM Registry editor smartphone edition. google for this cab: regedit.Stngr_ARM.CAB
second of all, here's how to reprovision the security on the snap so you can edit the registry.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...8c-d587-47e0-908b-09fee6ea517a&displaylang=en
install, and then install the tools.cab on your phone from the install directory, run the security configuration manager and connect your phone to your PC, then provision "security off", seems to work so far, and the values stick after a power cycle.

However, a word of warning. When changing or deleting the ForceCellConnection, the value will revert any changes you make after a power cycle and you will lose the connection selection box in the ICS app. this is the only reg value I've found that reverts. I get the feeling that sprint had some kind of script installed that keeps checking for and replacing this particular value.
Also, when using ICS on the "Sprint" setting, it throws an error message up at me and says i need to enter a user name and password. What's going on?

Ok found ICSinstall.cab on here and installed it, soft reset, and attempted to install the latest version of the WMWifiRouter program (which I finally succeeded in sourcing!).
However I get a message telling me cryptically that it 'cannot be installed' after attempting install. I wonder if this is related to ICS...
I now have the InShrUI.exe file in /windows/ *but* attempting to run it gives:
'The file 'IntShrUI' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of it's components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.'
I reinstalled it over itself (i.e. ran the cab again) same error.
:-/
Was this the right file? I seem to remember it was dated 11th January 2008??
Thanks again for hte help folks!
I should say I'm running Microsoft Windows Mobile Version 5.0 (OS5.1.195 (build 14955.2.3.0).
Lastly I should say I've started a new topic as the last one was getting a bit off topic my original concern having been answered :-D (thanks guys!)
probably you only opened a shortcut (*.ink) and the shortcut pointed to a not existing file. Another thing is that it also was intsalled correctly (the *.exe), but the dll's or whatever are not installed.
Regards
Thanks. I'll try redownloading and repeating.
I was wondering if the file needed signed with some unique private key or something?
Anyways will give it a shot and report back

Thanks for your suggestion I'm now a tiny bit further on.
On soft resetting the PPC I get the following error:
'Pocket PC Networking
Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings.'
InShrUI is still giving the same error as before (and it's definately the .exe file I'm clicking).
However the improvement is: This time WMWifiRouter succeeded in installing...
However the same PPC networking error occurred during the install. I could probably tweak whatever is causing that error to use a static IP address rather than DHCP probably...but it's kind of dodging the problem.
And as said before I can't launch IntShrUI without getting that error. This time there is a shortcut to it though in program files.
I should also say that neither the executable or the shortcut has an Icon Image (i.e. it's the default no icon blank) so I suppose it might be the .exe file that's corrupt (since the shortcut get's it's icon from there I think?).
Last but not least:
WMWifiRouter reads:
Code:
'Not Connected'
Waiting for connection
I suspect the problem must lie with InShrUI but then again I'm a noob so I'll wait for the XDA gods to come and share their wisdom!

Is there no1 who can answer this? Anyone got any ideas?
Device is a hermes (T-mobile Vario-II) running WM5.....
There's one MAN point up for grabs for whoever can solve it!
I tried installing WMWifiRouter 0.89 onto a ROM which didn't have ICS included (which meant I had to try the same route you did) onto my Vario 2... I just couldn't get it to work, and I spent a while trying to make it work too.
I'm figuring that there's some deep-seated DLL or system association which ICS needs, which isn't configured if ICS is stripped out of the ROM - I ended up just reflashing with another ROM (the T-Mobile WM6.0 official ROM) and ICS and WMWifiRouter works fine.
Sorry that's not a solution, but it's the only way I could get it to work. Not an expert ROM cooker, so my knowledge of how ICS is stripped / included in ROMs is fairly limited, though I understand the concepts and techniques.
Thanks for your help Christopher.
I considered flashing a working ROM. My worry is about losing all the programs I have installed on the device (it took a long time to get it *this* customised ;-) ) is there any way to flash the new ROM while keeping the old registry entries etc. for registering my programs (Especially those I've bought such as Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine - which I cannot register anymore)? ...
Or could I somehow back up the registry and restore it later (I know that's likely to be a dangerous idea...perhaps simply the file associations and programs stuff -the windows mobile section?)
Thanks bro!

Bumping as no replies for ages
Anyone?
Bumping again as no replies for a week or so
Bumping again to ask if anyone knows a way of slving this without having to reinstall all my programs, re register them, and reconfigure everything? (which I suspect installing a different ROM will do?) is it possible to back up the registry entries for all of my programs then do the ROM upgrade and restore the registry entries from my other programsMost of my programs are installed on the microSD card anyway (i didn't want to use up the main memory and slow the device up).??
If so how?
Thanks again folks !
I have the same problem...
I cant seem to find the answer but will continue to try.
if your programs are installed on your memory card then chances are you should be able to past shortcuts into the programs directory after reflashing. I tend to do this BUT I have found some programs that need to be re-installed or re-registered. Backing up registries can cause SERIOUS problems in itself so I would 1st do a full backup of your system (try spb backup, it backs up EVERYTHING on the phone then re-installs the lot so it seems like you never had a problem..) then flash. Try putting on shortcuts and if you have no luck you have the choice to start again on the new os or reflash to old and then restore backup (old problems wil still be there). Hope this helps.
Ps. I use resco explorer instead of the crap file explorer on the phone. It allows MUCH more versatility to do as I want. Cheers....

How do you make registry changes take effect without a soft reset

I am trying to change some registry settings to do things such as 'adjust volume settings' 'adjust backlight settings' 'turn bluetooth on and off' etc etc.
I want to use mort script to make the changes but so far I haven't figured out how to make the changes take effect without a soft reset, even when making the changes with a registry editor.
Does anyone know how to do this so that the changes take effect immediately?
Any help appreciated.
two things:
1st: all of the things you mentioned above should work without a reset. the best thing to do is change the reg value manully and if it works with out a reset then you know the problem is in the mort script
2nd: If you know how to edit xml files then download this cab and edit the xml file how you want. this should help some
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RG6JZC33
this has a lot of apps in it you will be looking for the one that says tweaks
Thanks for the info irus,
Like I said, using a registry editor to change the settings does not take effect until I soft reset.
For example (and i'd appreciate it if someone could test this on their phone) changing the values in HKCU\ControlPanel\Volume...."Volume" and "Ringer" to 0 assuming it is not already set to silent does not actually turn the phone to silent until I soft reset.
Could someone please check this for me and report back.
BTW I'm using a Trinity (HTC P3600) with AX3L's LITE ROM.
Thanks in advance.
I tried it and it did not work, you sould try to edit the xml file in the program i told you about and try it there. when i get done with homework i will try it my self
Registry value is read by windows while loading. In case of desktop pc if you restart the explorer process the registry gets loaded. you need to find some way to load the registry again.

Hide SIM contacts on Touch Plus

Hi all,
My other half bought a Touch Plus yesterday and I've been adding software to it to make all that much better.
The contacts are stored on the SIM and I've copied them all into Pocket Outlook. I then made the reg tweak to hide the SIM contacts which worked immediately, hiding all the SIM contacts. However, when I soft reset the device (via software or holding down the power button and then re-powering on) the registry value goes back to what it was - showing the SIM contacts!
Is there any way that reg value can be kept to 0?
Cheers
ND
Hi
I have the exact same problem and asked this question previously here, never got a answer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359152
The first thing after a reboot is to hide my SIM contacts... If anyone have a solution it would be very nice.
Kind Regards
I have found a solution...
Download dotfred's excellent TaskManager/Registry Editor from: http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm
Copy the exe to wherever you want on your device,
Use the registry editor in there to set the ShowSIM value to 0.
Export that registry value... to \My Documents\HideSIMContacts.reg (for example)
Create a shortcut to the task manager exe in Windows\StartUp.
Edit the properties of that shortcut (I use Resco Explorer) and set the Target as follows:
"<path to task manager>" \My Documents\HideSIMContacts.reg /silent
Make sure you have "'s around the Task Manager path BUT NOT around the path for the reg file.
Reboot...
Bob's your uncle.
I had the same issue with my previous Orange UK stock ROM, don’t know why the registry tweak does NOT stick after SR on certain ROM’s :-/ so in the end I resorted to installing the attached cab which fixed the issue
On my current HTCAsia WEE ROM the registry tweak works so no need for the cab fix! Anyway for those with ROM where the registry tweak does NOT work, you can use the fix mentioned here by NinjaDonkey or install the attached cab and soft reset, that should do the trick
AWESOME...thanks, I have a locked rogers HTC Touch and have tried many different Reg tweaks that would not stick to hide the SIMs in my Contacts, but the NIKI Sim fix above finally got it. Thanks, thank you, thanx again.

Unable to launch EPST.exe

I have a TITA100(Quest) that I am unable to launch EPST.exe on. I need to enter in the SPC # that I generated, but when I tap it to launch it reads EPST at the top for a sec but never leaves the file browser. I have also tried ##778(#), but the phone dials to a quest message service that says I am unable to dial this number.
I want to configure it for cricket.
Here is what I have done so far.....
Started with: Radio v. 1.39.00, ROM V. 2.13.656.2, Bootloader 1.2
Went to bootloader 2.40(via Hard-SPL-MF.exe), Scrosler's Titan ROM 3.26 w/touchflow. and then Radio 3.42.30.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions or solutions.
I got it to work after doing the using reedit to dump the code into a text file. I am not sure if that activated something, but it worked.

So go to settings then phone the location and turn it to 911 only, GPS is now off. I don't think there are any gps settings in EPST but I could be wrong. And I run GPS all the time and have no problems with my battery life. I think you have other issues.
i may be wrong, but my Quest XV6800 didn't have the EPST.exe executable in it's original ROM (it's also in the Windows directry). i believe i flashed it to Alltel's stock ROM to get to it, and reset the SPC to 000000's. i couldn't get it into debug mode with the Quest ROM either
i have flashed many Moguls and the Quest ones are always the most peculiar...
i can't get epst to launch. i tried repeatedly starting it, using ##778 AND EPST.EXE in \Windows. I then soft restarted two or three times, trying both methods after each boot.
Is there any way to fix this? Otherwise, is there another way to enter the A KEY? I'm gettin an auth error when making calls.
rom 4.1.2 radio 3.42.50 pri 1.35_002
Installed DCD Verizon Carrier Cab from http://dcd1182.n715dp.com/index.php?dir=carriers and that allowed me to launch EPST via both methods.
Did not eliminate the need for a new A KEY.
Still kinda learning this stuff, I flashed everything OK, and now the GPS works with Garmin XT. This is on a "practice" phone, one that was kind of beatup that I could practice on before I flash my actual phone. I couldn't get EPST to work till I loaded the Verizon cab described below. Question is, will I have to load this cab every time I flash a new ROM, or does it have more to do with flashing a different radio ROM?
This is a great forum, I've learned a lot, and still learning. Thanks everyone.
Dale.
Some roms are carrier specific and have the info included. Most roms state that installing the carrier cab is necessary. This allows the same rom for all titans and then the user just adds carrier info. Just read the rom instruction better next time. Most list if the cab is needed.

LG Quantum Hacks USE MFG!!!

In case anyone was having trouble finding the info, I just thought I would put everything together and make it easy. Sorry if im re-posting anyones info, just seemed a bit spread out. Obviously anything you do is at your own risk, but if you follow it to the letter, you cant go wrong.
I can confirm all of this works.
And as far as the unlock, I didn't unlock my phone until AFTER I got NoDo. And yes, it DOES stay unlocked. Ive already tested, and obviously because of that, side-loading still works as well. You wont need the chevron unlock program anymore, plus it doesnt seem to be working well for alot of people now anyways since NoDo, but the Chevron Ringtone Manager works GREAT without that once you go through the process. Just leave out the part about the Chevron7 unlock tool.
LG "debranding" hack
1. Enable the MFG application by going to the dialer and dialing ##634# then pressing call.
2. Launch the MFG application and enter 277634#*# when prompted for a password.
3. Select the Engineer Menu item.
4. Select the Other Setting menu item.
5. Select the Edit registry menu item.
6. Set the input boxes on this menu as follows:
Select ROOT_PATH: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Input SUB_PATH: \System\Platform\DeviceTargetingInfo\
Input KEY: MobileOperator
Data Type: STRING
Input DATA: It is blank, but instead of leaving a blank, put in an empty space. As in actually hit the space key once.
Also, if you want to re-brand your phone after the update for AT&T your input should be ATT-US
7. Select Query and write down the result in case you need to re-brand for some reason.
8. To debrand just enter the same information above and leave the input data field blank. The tool will say fail but it really did set correctly.
You can now connect to Zune and check for updates.
How to Un-Lock your Phone without Chevron 7
You can unlock the phone by using the MFG registry editor.
Open the MFG app and use the password to open it. If you don't know it's (appmfg#*#)
Go to Engineer Menu -> Other Settings -> Edit Registry
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Comm\Security\LVMod"
Set your input key to "DeveloperUnlockState" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return a "0" or a random long number. If it does continue.
Set your input data box to "1" and hit SET. Output result should be 1
How To Keep Your Phone Unlocked
You can keep your phone unlocked and prevent Zune from re-locking it.
Open the MFG app and use the password to open it. If you don't know it's (appmfg#*#)
Go to Engineer Menu -> Other Settings -> Edit Registry
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg"
Set your input key to "PortalUrlProd" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return data. If it does continue.
Keep your input data box empty and hit SET. Output result should be 0
Keep this screen open and continue to Part 2
Part 2
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg"
Set your input key to "PortalUrlInt" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return data. If it does continue.
Keep your input data box empty and hit SET. Output result should be 0
Backout to the password screen and shutdown the phone via powerbutton.
Reboot and sync. Your phone should stay unlocked.
How to Re-Lock your Phone without Chevron 7
Don't want your phone unlocked anymore? You can re-lock the phone by using the MFG registry editor.
Open the MFG app and use the password to open it. If you don't know it's (appmfg#*#)
Go to Engineer Menu -> Other Settings -> Edit Registry
Set your ROOT PATH to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
Set your input path to "\Comm\Security\LVMod"
Set your input key to "DeveloperUnlockState" and set to DWORD
Hit Query. Output result should return a "1". If it does continue.
Set your input data box to "0" and hit SET. Output result should be 0
Your phone is now locked. To Unlock the phone redo the above steps but set back to "1"

While the unlock works as described and I can deploy applications on the phone I cannot debug from Visual studio. The application deploys and it can be manually run but I cannot debug. The following error displays when I hit F5
---------------------------
Microsoft Visual Studio

The application could not be launched for debugging. Ensure that the target device screen is unlocked and that the application is installed.

OK

Any ideas would be appreciated, I've tryied pretty much everything so far including a clean install of the latest VS + WP7 sdk and a factory reset of the phone.
Same here
I have the same issue with debugging that you do. The only way I've managed to resolve it was restoring to a pre NoDo backup, unlocking with Chevron and then updating to NoDo again. I can only guess that Chevron must do more than change that one registry key (or rather, that the phone does more than change that key when it's told by chevron to unlock) but unless we can figure out what that extra step is we're probably stuck.
Your Problem
Well, that is your problem right there, lol. Both of you mentioned using Chevron to unlock. If you are using Chevron to unlock, AND using MFG, well, chances are ur pissing it off somewhere. dont use both. MFG makes it so that you DO NOT NEED chevron with the LG Quantum, not to unlock. and everything else works just fine - the chevron ringtone thing, ect. Thats probably where ur extra step is... ur unlocking it two different ways and making it upset.

No Chevron in my case, I've only used the MFG on a NoDo updated phone. I don't think you can debug using only these registry keys. There is something else.
have you tried actually calling LG and talkin to tech support? I honestly cant think of anything myself... and ive been thinkin about it and working on it since it was brought to my attention. Its LG's software, they should know something.
I guess you could try a hard reset to see if anything happens
thanks for putting this up here. I've discovered this as well a while back and still find a lot of people with LGs that are being told to roll back or reset their phones after they got their NoDo in the WP7 forums. Many people believe what doesn't work with their device applies to all devices. Luckily for us LG included the registry editor right on the device
Your title should include that this works after NoDo and it should be made a sticky!
cheers
ps: you may want to include a reference to the original post by airwa1kin7 for your first part (link in my signature).
I have tried this several times but my phone still shows the following error when I use a SIM other than AT&T:
"This SIM card can only be used on specific networks. Contact your service center for the unlock code"
Any ideas on solving this would be appreciated
And does the "debranding hack" remove the AT&T boot screen?
-FIXED- Seems in my triple checking wasn't thorough enough, for the path's I was including "\" before the path and the whole string was showing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\ (the \\ being my issue) just fyi for any other spacey people X)
I attempted the registry hacks to unlock, keep unlocked, and change app limit on my post NoDo AT&T quantum and triple checked my registry after connecting to my x64 win7 ultimate machine and trying to load my chevron prepared ringtone. With most package loaders I get an error of an app limit but I believe with Tom's XAP installer along with the chevron unlocking tool I tried after realizing the registry hack didn't work, I get a phone not detected error when it is clearly shown in Zune which I have open during the whole process. Could it be nodo interfering or an issue within windows? Should I try a restore and chevron post nodo? The debranding isn't required for the unlock to have an effect is it? Any advice would be appreciated as I get bored with these ringtones!
-Update: Error received when attempting to deploy XAP to device using Windows Phone Development Tools Application Deployment.
Error - Unable to install application. The maximum number of developer applications on this phone has been reached. Please uninstall a developer application and try again.
-Note: I have never been ABLE to install a developer application so I don't think it's possible I have any to uninstall. I have changed the app limit registry key and it seems to have no effect, unless the problem is that my phone isn't unlocked, would I get the same error if that were the issue? It is possible to unlock post NoDo with MFG right? Wish i could figure out how ...
When attempting with Tom's XAP installer it says Make sure your phone is unlocked, make sure you've connected device to pc and zune launched.
Seems to me the phone just isn't unlocking...
Is it possible to rollback to pre nodo amd attempt? would it better my odds?
its not removing the subsidiary lock from the phone. you are misunderstanding the information. when it debrands, the provider no longer has control over whether or not you get updates and such. the debrand does not remove the logo. check around, im sure someone has figured out how to do that. as far as the unlock goes, it is simply allowing sideloading. not moving over to another carrier. basically you are changing the code to a devel code. if you want to unlock, well i doubt it if that can be done just yet. check around, i might be wrong. but i know that the carriers are not going to release the unlock codes yet, but call your carrier, u might get lucky.
as far as the app limit change goes, the only devices i am aware of that working on at the moment is HTC, but that is only for sideloaded apps. debranding isint required for the unlock to work, but that still does not matter. at the moment, my understanding is that pre and post nodo there is a 10 sideload app limit on all LG devices. the HTC code may differ slightly for whatever reason. your problem is that is just is not possible to do more. when your computer says it needs to be unlocked, it is ALSO talking about your screen, not just the phone. if you are doing something like sideloading ringtones, remember, u can load them, then remove the app that installed them. uninstall, then reload, that way you dont end up filling it up. a developer app is anything you are attempting to sideload. anything you are not getting from the marketplace. it IS possible to unlock post no-do. sounds like u just have too many sideloaded apps. remove some, then try. and make sure your phone is on the start screen.
oh, and I would put the reference, accept that wasnt where I found it. I cant remember where I got all of it, thats why I apoligised for reposting anyones info.

Another useful registry key: Allow max number of unsigned apps
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\DeviceReg\Install]
"MaxUnsignedApp"=dword:7fffffff
jlott069, problem was i wasn't able to sideload any apps, so i couldnt have had too many installed. but problem resolved, thanks for the advice!
Now this is just crazy, reflashed my phone. and i hgot all the updates again, now i'm trying to unlock it and once again am having the same issues.... seems like it isn't unlocked after changing the registry keys
-fixed after resetting to factory defaults and trying just the unlock key, i think it has issues trying to do the unlock and 2 keep-unlock keys at the same time
Another odd thing i notcied and i'm not sure what causes it, but either after unlocking my phone or installing touchxperience, i lose the capability to browse the memory via USB mass storage (zune registry hack)
I still have that option, but I dont use touch experience, and i just still have it unlocked. I had to re-unlock it after my update to mango? I dont know why... but it unlocked just fine and im side-loading apps again with no problem. maybe the issue is in the zune registry hack? I duno...

happened to me too when going from NoDo to Mango it was locked even though relock was disabled. I think it's normal and it will stay unlocked if you followed the known steps.
