SIP over WIFI => Screen Power off Drops WIFI Connection - Touch HD General

Hi All,
I hope some one can shed some light on this.
I am using fring to connect to my SIP provider - no problems... except.... when I power off the screen the wifi connection is droped. Bad if someone is trying to call.
Is there anyway to keep the wifi connected whilst the screen is off?? All i want is for the wifi to stay connected just like The Phone Network Data connections Do....
Is this possible?
What SIP clients can you guys recommend? Isnt SIP integrated in to WM6.1??? cant find it anywhere.... and the threads about it seem to have gone cold..... any clues?

HD Tweak Win!
HD Tweak allowed the wireless to stay connected. Nice!

Now, SIP clients Anyone??? Been using Fring - is there anything better or integrated that is a bit cleaner?
basically all i want is to be able to recieve SIP calls whenever connected to the provider, but select how outbond calls are handled

Native SIP stack on WM6.x is not very user friendly and it lacks some major features. No echo cancellation, no earpiece support, no NAT traversal, etc...
Try AgePhone2 mobile (commercial) or PortSIP (free). Also check out this forum, there was plenty of VoIP discussion in the past 2 years or so.

sip client
the best sip client integrated with WM 6 is this. have been using it for long with sip calls
WM6VoIP.CAB & SipConfigTool_2_0_1.CAB

active GPRS, calls don't come in!

I've doubled checked with different SIMs/providers,
and both 1.03 and 1.60 versions....
Going into explorer, activating GPRS, downloading a large page,
and calling my phone from another cellular, I get "no answer"
and the XDAii never rings!
Has anyone experienced this?
Any solution?
Clearly, Voice should override Data according to GPRS standard,
and it did work for me on Treo 270 and Treo 600. But not here?!
tmobile does this to me with an XDAI
tmobile does this to me with an XDAI running 2003 from yorch, the basic rom, not the tmobile version.
A little useless to have gprs on all the time if you can't get calls, no?
gprs on vs gprs active
well in my case:
GPRS is on, but no data in the last few seconds: calls get in
GPRS is on and data "active": no calls get in
So, it is a problem of being "active" and not just "on" for me.
Like I've said, two different providers (900 & 1800) and both SIMs
worked correctly in a TREO 270/600.
GPRS & Calls
In my case, running an Orange M1000 with a version 1.52 ROM, the call gets through even if I have an active mail sync running using a VPN client and GPRS.
The VPN connection however is killed, but GPRS is re-enabled once the call terminates. The VPN client apparently does not re-connect automatically as it should, but this is not an M1000/XDA II problem.
This is how it is supposed to work, I believe.

Michael

Yes, same problem here. If IE is loading a page, the calls go to voice mail. The phone does not even ring.
How can we get around this?
So it is confirmed! help!
Come on people, now I'm pretty sure this is not related to
my locale (hebrew support) and is a global problem with the XDA II.
I can't believe someone else haven't checked it yet?
It is annoying to look something up on the net only to miss a call...
Some other people, please confirm this?
load a big www page in PIE and dial your own number.
Re: So it is confirmed! help!
Ummm....
Try doing this with a P900, Nokia 6600 etc...
I think you'll find this is a 'feature' of GPRS - when GPRS is actively transferring data, the phone bit doesn't work and calls go straight to vmail.
The dual bit - voice calls + downloads - is called 3G
Strange,
when i sync my email with active sync over GPRS the incoming call goes thrue but if i download a page with IE the call gets directly to the voice mail
any ideas??
regards,
Yann
My understanding is that there is nothing you can do. If GPRS is dl'ing, most calls will go to vm.
Should not matter which phone you have.
i'm pretty sure i have seen this confirmed in the documentation for my XDAII that whilst actively browsing using GPRS you cannot receive an incoming call as its downloading data, whether it just be page data or a file download. To recieve an incoming call GPRS can be connected but not active.

it happened to me when i click on save password everything i enable gprs.
to deal with it u need to either uncheck the save password or delete your previous setting and add a new one. now this time DO NOT check on save password when connecting to gprs.
hope it helps.

Agile multi service messnger Free Beta w/ working PTT

Hey all. Downloaded and installed the new Agile messenger beta last night. Let me just say it is phenominal and no issues of button jacking. I assigned the voice command button as my PTT and chatted up my buddy at work who was offline at the time. When I got to work he told me he had received the voice msg loud and clear. I suggest you all grab it while it's still free and hold onto it for later reflashing. After I closed the app my VC button functioned as normal. Hats off for an outstanding product. I wonder what else the released version will have ?
http://agilemobile.com/downloads.html
Thanks!
My pleasure guttrhead. 4 different instant messengers all working at the same time. I can easily text one friend and send voice messages to others. I've only used over wifi so I cannot speak to cellular lines.
Thanks Farooq. (The original diseminator of information) I just beat him to the post. lololol
I installed it and everything went smoothly, but I cannot seem to connect to any of my messengers.can use the Instant Messaging Program that shipped iwth my MDA and that works fine. Any ideas?
Maybe your network selections ? I have mine set to only connect through a wifi connection.
Which button do you use as the push to talk?
I tried various buttons but it doesn't recognize it.
I have the Qtek 9000 Universal btw.

well i use my GPRS setting to connect my other instant messengers. Can this only be used if WiFI is present?
Should work either way, wifi or GPRS/EDGE. I only use the wifi as I'm near several AP's at work and two at home.
deleted dbl post, sorry.
I am using GPRS to connect.
I find the connection cut off or I should say the application stopped after a while of idle.
Can you guys suggest any method to keep the connection on for a long period of time.
thanks
There is a registry key that you have to change for that.
I find that I can get on agile when I have my cingular proxy enabled on my EDGE connection. When I use EDGE without the proxy it works great.
For those of you who are having trouble with GPRS, please try Vijay555's software.
http://www.vijay555.com/?Releases:VJVolubilis
It allows you to create icons on the desktop so that you can toggle the GPRS on and off again. Also does Bluetooth, Wifi and others (I only use the 3 above). The instructions that you need to pay attention to is at the bottom of the page where instructions are available for you to put in a simple command to turn on/off the feature you want.
There's also another software out there that is a lot simpler which just turns on the GPRS:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=49839&highlight=gprs
Try that and see if Agile stays on by toggling the GPRS that way.
FYI, I'm using the vijay555 software. I like it. Always wanted to have icons on the desktop to turn features on and off.
Vijay555 - You're the greatest!
Hope that helps.
is this the version of agile messenger that disconnects the phone from the service operator (when you have to retype your pin and so on)?
the problem we had with the alpha-version...
I'm connected using WiFi but don't seem to be able to send any pictures (from my camera - MDA Pro).

I do not believe this error is present in the beta.
rats. doesn't work for me. just sits there at the google connect ans waits..... and waits..... and, you get the picture.
and hints on getting this working via gtalk?
i'm using a tmobile mda.
thanks.
PS.. how about an option to edit a created account? just being able to add/delete my not allow us to fine tune a defined connection.
mr skot,
as far as I know, t-mobile and google don't play well together.
I've and along with a bunch of others are having problems connecting to google via the T-mobile USA GPRS connection.
That might be the problem you're facing.
Supposedly T-mobile is looking into it.
But a forum member also mentioned that they've been looking into it for a long long time.
Clueless
Ok, so I am still trying to learn how to use the full potential of my MDA. I was told by TMobile that in order to use these applications that utilize the GPRS Network that I had to purchase full internet access that gave me access to GPRS. Is this true? I was under the assumption that GPRS access is included in baasic phone service...

Inbound VOIP Calls

Hi
I have tried various WM6 builds and cabs posted in the different threads here. I am able to configure my device to say either Available or Selected and it seems to work well for outbound calls using the built in Internet Calling feature.
My problem is inbound calls rarely work. If I call out, hang up, then call my device straight away it usually works. If I leave it a minute or so, it seems to loose connection with my VOIP provider. If I turn Internet Calling off then back on again it usually fixes the problem for a minute or so before dropping the connection .
I have tried several third party VOIP apps and these seem to work fine, keeping the connection with the server, but non of them route the audio through the internal earpiece, all use the external speaker. Anyone know of an app which routes audio through the internal ear piece?
Is there any sort of WM6 'keep-alive' setting or registry key which can be set to make it keep the connection with the VOIP server ?
Thanks
maaron.

Skype/VOIP over bluetooth?

Hi all,
I was interested to know if it is possible to use Voip or Skype over a bluetooth connection.
I currently sync via bluetooth using my HTC Himalaya, which allows me to access the internet at my home.
I tried using Skype Mobile on my phone but it only seems to allow 3G or WiFi connections.
I don't want to use my phone as the headset, connecting through my PC's Skype, I want it to work standalone ie Be able to connect to the Skype Network/VOIP network using software on my phone, connecting to the activesync bluetooth connection.
Any ideas?
it's transparent to most programs which connection they use as long as it's fast enough
and my tests and tests i've sene indicate that bluetooth is not fast enough to do talk with skype
but you can chat but then so you can using gprs
Even BT 1.x should be able to provide enough bandwidth for Skype or VoIP applications as in the worst case you will need 64 kbps up- and downstream (using G.711 like codecs). The problem for VoIP / SIP is probably that it won't run over the ActiveSync connection... which is very limited anyway. There might not be a way to do what you want, but it would be interesting if someone could correct me.
Bluetooth Activesync Works
Well I just configured and managed to use Skype over Bluetooth Activesync....and it worked OK.
The sound was identical to that which I get on my SDIO 802.11G Wifi Card, so I am not complaining.
I was unable to "chat" with someone though, as in typing (I could type but they couldn't see it, possibly because I was logged in elsewhere), but I was able to use the Echo call function, and it worked.
So. It works. But more testing is needed.
It saves me having to carry around and purchase extra wifi equipment when I can do the same over Bluetooth...
Do many people know how to do this? Do you think I should make a post in the development and hacking or general forum?
works great

any working SIP Client

Retail USA 10.1 ver 3.1
anyone has success for sip client
I tried few clients like CSipsimple , Sipdroid and voip by antisip
It will connect for few seconds then drops the connection. I am not sure but like in G2x phone it worked with data plan only not with Wifi.
I am using GrooVe IP which connects to your google voice account. You have to pay for it but it works I think worth the money. Not sure exactly how it works, but it rings before my cellphone rings.
I also installed it on my phone and the GrooVe IP rings a good second or more before the normal forwarding comes through.
I was trying not to use Google Voice and use our corporate VoIP (which is Asterisk server) , which has my extension and so on.
Thanks
I've had sipdroid installed for a while and haven't ran in to any issues with it. I'd suggest checking the various configuration settings and making sure it isn't something with your specific setup.
Another thing to watch for is the WiFi sleep policy, and make sure that the wifi isn't disconnecting once you put the tablet to sleep (though if it disconnects while the screen is still on that likely isn't the issue you are running in to).
this time Sipdroid worked,
what I did was just use one audio codes and made other one to never use.
I tried with PCMA , GSM and speex they all by itself worked. (of course we have those on server side)
