Screen turns itself on at 23:59 - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hi to all,
i am running Essential ROM 1.7 (used to run X-Treme before) and on both of them my topaz activates screen every night exactly at 23:59. So it turns on, and go to sleep after 2 minutes (as set in settings). Anyone experienced this? I have bunch of apps installed and don't really want to try uninstalling all of them

Do you use G-Alarm?

Same problem to me and I use galarm.

It is something that G-Alarm does on purpose... If you go to the developer's site, it explains why.

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ageye\G-Alarm"
Don't wakeup at midnight
Because of the Windows alarm bug, G-Alarm wakes the device at midnight so Windows Mobile can rebuild its notification queue. If you turn this off by changing or adding following registry value, it may happen that an alarm doesn't go off:
MidnightWakeUp: False
http://www.ageye.de/index.php?s=galarm/support/manual/hidden_options

Glad somebody else asked this, it's been bugging me for a few days but I never got around to posting.
I wouldn't mind the turning on, but mine doesn't turn off! I have my timeouts set to 3 mins for backlight and 4 mins for device (they're high because I use it to play Scrabble!) I've left the midnight thing on for as long as 10 minutes before manually turning it off. Any ideas?

Hi
I think that is poor programming, you can turn the phone on without turning the backlight on and this happens all the time many times a day.

Why alarm doesn't wake me up if Xperia is off?

Hello! I'm new but I have a big problem. In the enening when I go to bed I often turn off my Experia so I'm not interrupted at night and I can save my baterry. But the problem is that alarm in the morning doesn't want to ring and doesn't want to turn Xperia on back. I found recently the page on the web where somenoe said that it needs to be doen some hidden tweaks so that the WM doesn't try to look how full the baterry is before it sturts up. I can't find that page on the web again so can someone help me with this settings?
Than you.
use flight mode.
x1 cant wake up when off
I don't think any Windows Mobile phone is capable of waking itself up when it's powered down.
you probably use just as much power turning the phone on as you would have used leaving it in stand by..... just sayin'
OK, so I have tried flight mode and it works but anyway does anyone know the hidden settings to change verifiing battery from wm before it turns on again?
Oh, and another problem on my Xperia. I noticed that when I don't use it the screen (backlight) aproximetely every once in 2 minutes turns on again (my power settings are: turn backlight off after 30 sec, standby mode after 1 minute). I think that why battery last only 3 days. Can anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks.

Change your configuration : Settings / system/ ilumination (check here the items you have enable or disable "enable ilumination".
Well basically, your device is off when you turn turn off the screen.
Not quite. You can always leave a lot of applications running with the screen off.
So what kind of setting to save as much as it can for battery or what kind of app du you recomend?
First, as someone already said, a WM device can not turn itself on when powered down.
To conserve battery... well just make sure no CPU intensive apps are running in the background, wifi, BT, data connection are off and use auto backlight setting.
Most smartphones don't turn themselves on for alarm (WM, UIQ Symbian, S60 Symbians), but i can't tell for all (iPhone does as i've heard, no idea about Android).
PDA is not Mobile Phone.
It has operation system etc.
To run PDA you need about 1 minute for loading all components of OS.
To run Mobile Phone Alarm needs no load components of OS, just display and sound.
In PDA sound can be played with help of driver and so on.
In Mobile Phone just tiny assembler program and clock-chip.
I know my alarm worked before with Touch-It rom. But since I flashed with WM6.5 and my alarm doesn't go off when the screen is off. There's no way around this?
I can't trust the alarm at all, it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Same on stock rom and 6.5. G-alarm is much better though..
Are you talking about turning the phone off completely,or turning off to the standby stage ? If you use the standby stage, it works fine, and hardly uses any power in this mode.

HD2 Freezes sometimes during Clock Alarm

Brand new HTC HD2, No software or any tweakings, nothing.
Alarm set to wake me up this morning.
Woke up an hour later, phone was on, alarm screen was on display with the machine freezed, had to soft reset. What the hell is that? This is a brand new nothing installed device. A simple thing as an alarm clock freezes the device?
Anyone experiences same problem?
I had the same problem, but with galarm.I never thought this can happen with the original software. It should be bugs free...
I get a similar problem sometimes with GAlarm. Luckily for me, it sets the alarm off then freezes up. That gets you out of bed believe me
The screen is on, with the time displayed and what looks like one of the balls from the maze/snooze function in the very top right hand corner. You can't do anything to get rid of the screen. I had to press the Home hard key then end task GAlarm to get it to stop. So it's not totally frozen up but GAlarm is fubard

Maybe a new function from g-alarm .
I don't have the problems you (all) are having, even with g-alarm. It's working like a charm on my HD2 orignal WWE 1.66 rom.
You guys/girls got all patches etc installed?
What kind of patches?
Doesn't 1.66 come with them already in?
I'm using BsBTweaks 1.6.
I think mine might be a setting within GAlarm. I quite often get an error while setting up alarms, usually either when adding tracks or when I get right to the end and save it. But it is there and set up when I next go in. I'm using GAlarm 2.3.
Never had this problem with my HD2. However it happened often with my HTC Touch Diamond. Maybe it has something to do with a specific device, dunno. Anyway just in case I have one alarm set on my iPod Touch so there's always at least one device that will wake me up. Maybe you should hard reset your phone or smth... Did you tweak your soft in some way? Edited the registry?
just this morning, fir the first time, the alarm clock didn't trigger. Had it set for 8:40, all days of the week active, obviously alarm was active, vibration was off.
I had a gut feeling that it MAY not work, so I setup the other phone at 9am just in case... as expected, the other phone woke me up, the hd2 didn't... but no freezes nor anything, simply no alarm sounded...
same for me. hd2. it has to do with
1. the windows lock screen
2. galarm
3. backlight/device timeout settings while locked
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
nothing like a frozen device MID alarm forcing you to pull the battery, and restart, etc
I have the same problem. But i will try something i found. Since the problem occurs occasionally I cannot reproduce the error and post a result. Maybe you can try and share the results too.
There's an option in G-Alarm settings that says "Turn backlight off during an alarm after x seconds". I will disable this feature.
I'm also using S2U2. This feature may interfere with S2U2.
Cheers
Well I am not using G alarm or any other app. Its just plain WM 6.5 alarm. I have tried it on 4 different ROM(stock) and other and I get same result.
If I don't reset my phone before going to bed at night, I will get this issue in the morning that my phone will be frozen during the alarm.
Any advice?
Try these, it should help freezing problems with htc hd2 and galarm
allthese settings are in galarm settings option
1)Disable "turn backlight off during snooze"
2) Disable "turn backlight off during an alarm after x secomds"
3)Disable "show flightmode function"
4) Disable "unlock the device"
I also have the same problem, sometimes the WM alarm fails to sound the alarm, the phone says that it has gone off, but no alarm sounds.
Have done some research, and it sounds like a fault with WM, the phone "wakes" its self at ~03:00 for 30seconds to schedule all its tasks for the day, BUT if it takes too long scheduling other tasks, it cant do the alarm call due to running out of time.

wifi not disconnecting in standby

Hi everyone
I have a strange problem since a couple of days. If turn my HD2 off (standby) the wifi connection remains alive. This naturally is a massive battery drain and the only thing I can do, is to manually turn it of whenever I don't need it. Does anyone have a solution for this problem.
After this problem appeared I thought I might have accidentally turned on the WiFi Standby tweak in BsB Tweaks. It appears turnoff in BsB Tweaks. So I thought I might try turning it on an then off again to clean up the registry, but I don't seem to be able to turn it on so it sticks. I'm thinking maybe BsB Tweaks isn't actually showing whether it's turned on or not. Does anyone know the reg-key concerned, so I can check manually whether it's turned on.
Thanks for your help
Greetings

I have exactly the same problem. Have you found a solution?
I had this problem today where it constantly kept trying to connect and my battery went from 73% to 4% within a few hours, even though i selected cancel.
do you have bsbtweaks installed? there is a tweak in there that lets wifi stay on when on standby, perhaps that is active?
this is not issue this is normal , as they make the end key closes the screen they should have stretched the wifi turn off time after standby so wait from 2-3 minuites after going to stand by and you will find it closed automatically

it was doing exactly how you say before, but it now never disconnects. I keep forgetting to turn it off and it's such a battery killer. "keep wifi connection in standby" is not active under BSB Tweaks by the way.

Check this registry value...
HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms:HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended
It should be 0 to turn off wifi when in standby.
Hope this helps
Edit:
Ignore the space in "HTCKeepWifiOnWhenUnattended" above. It's this forum - it's always doing that
I've found this:
HKLM\Comm\BCMSDDHD1\Parms:SuspendOffDelayInterval
I've set it from default 30000(30 seconds) to 5000 (5 seconds) and WiFi does restart when I power-on after 5 seconds.

that didn't help me, still stays connected in standby.
This thread is interesting. I, on the other hand, would like to keep wifi ON while in standby (with screen off). For certain programs such as Pandora, I would like it playing in the background but have my screen off.
I am having the opposite issue. I can't seem to make it do that given the tips I found already on this thread.
I tried changing the following from 0 to 1 but noticed that when I poweroff phone, it goes back to being 0. Can anyone help me out? Sorry I don't mean to take over your thread. Maybe I should start a new similar thread with an opposite meaning..

Screensaver that powers off screen but leaves device running?

Hi,
I've searched for several hours now in these forums and on Google, with no success.
I need an app that leaves the device switched on, but powers off the screen.
In settings/power I can dim the screen, but there is no setting to dim it completely or just switch it off.
I've found screensavers that can show a blank screen, but the screen is still actually powered up, just showing a black image presumably.
I've found apps that can switch off the screen. But you have to manually click on them to switch off the screen.
Does anyone know of a screensaver that after a set interval will leave the device running, but power off the screen please?
Suspend is no good, the device must be up and running apps.
Thanks for your help.

What apps are you trying to "keep running"? The only thing that might be an issue when the screen goes into it's normal sleep mode is that audio will stop outputting, and wifi connections will suspend, but there's cabs available here to easily get around both of those (and keep them going even when the screen shuts off).
Well, it's actually to solve another long-running problem that has made me almost lose the will to live....
Alarms don't go off reliably on my TP2.
Sometimes, randomly, the alarm doesn't go off until I press the power button to wake it up. The the alarm instantly goes off. So, if I set an alarm for 6am, sometimes the phone wakes up and the alarm sounds, sometimes not. And if I switch the phone on manually sometime later, at 6:15 say, the 6am alarm sounds then.
It will work fine for a few days, then fail.
It happened on WM6.1 and still continues after upgrading to WM6.5.
I have spent countless hours googling and searching XDA-Dev. I have tried probably ten different alarm apps, with no luck. I have hard-reset various times. I have tried various recommended registry tweaks. I've tried checking the notification queue regularly for any errors. I've tried so many different suggestions, for example, never pressing the power button to turn the phone off, only ever let it hibernate automatically. Warm-resetting it each day. And the list goes on.
So, I'm experimenting with just leaving the phone on forever. But turning the screen off at night to save power / not shorten the life of the screen hardware.
Which leads me to the question about screensavers which actually power off the screen automatically after a set delay. Just like a normal screensaver on a PC.
It's hard to easily convey the frustration I have for the TP2. An excellent phone. But a phone which I can't trust to do the simplest thing: to wake me up in the morning?
It'll end up in the bin at some point very soon now.....
A suggestion
Hi,
In my opinion there must be an application, change or customisation that is leading you to those problems. My suggestion is, to perform a sync towards any computer or server to keep your contacts, then, hard reset and keep the phone with the factory defaults for a while. Then, test the phone's alarms and if all is okay, add one by one your applications and changes, testing the alarms in between. Please do that on the official ROM (whatever 6.5 or 6.1) but official one. You will flash if needed later on.
I know it will be a pain, but you will find the problem.
I am using a TP2 with stock WM6.5 ROM. I have not had yet any issue with the alarms. However, I remember to have had those kind of problems before with WM 5.0 and 6.1. There were always related to freeware applications, customisations, no official ROMs, registry hacks and restored backups done from older builds upon upgrade. The alarm bug in old WM version was also known, but I have not experienced it on newer versions.
There can be some issues with the notification database by times, but as said above, it is almost every time due to customisations.
I am not saying that we should keep our phones without applications, third party software, cooked ROMs, customisation etc. But the goal is to find out what is the reason, and believe me. It is the best if not only way.
If you post the list of applications and hacks that you have in your phone, I can try to see if there is any I could identify like guilty one, based on my own experience.
Complementary, I recommend you to install and use these two applications in attachment. They have worked for me on WM5, 6, 6.1 and 6.5 so far. They are freeware and therefore you can use them without problems.
Good luck!
Thanks for taking the time to reply. All very good advice. I'll have a go when I've got some free time again. In the meantime, has anyone come across a screensaver that actually powers off the screen please?
Thanks again.

do you turn your ringer to silent or vibrate when you go to bed? if so,
go to start/settings/clocks&alarms/more and make sure that the "sound alarms box" is checked. this will make sure that even if your phone ringers/alerts are off, your alarm will ring. also, if you charge your phone while you sleep, go to the backlight settings and uncheck the "turn screen off on ac power" box. if you cant sleep with the phone light on, set it to max dim on ac power and flip it over. i always had this issue when i had the tmobile wing.

S2U2 on this forum.
try g alarm.it worked perfect for me with tilt
I have similar Issues with my TP2;
I notice that it is more to do with HIBERNATING than screen off.
My TP2 has go to the point where allowing it to go to hibernation means Screen of Death.
Overnight I charge it and do not let the screen go off and it seems ok (so far).
Guess I will have to Hard reset and test my freeware.
Cheers

I had the exact same problem. When the phone goes to sleep, it is ASLEEP. I didn't use the alarm too much but the phone would never notify me when SMS arrived. I'd hit the power switch to check, and bam, three messages arrive at once, some from hours ago. Immensely frustrating, but the problem went away when I installed Energy rom.

Backlight problem

Hi, I have a fairly new problem with my fantastic HD2.
When I plug it into my PC via USB, the backlight dims after the set 30 seconds, but it will not turn off altogether after the set time (1 or 2 minutes).
I've tried everything. I definitely have the backlight settings correct, but no matter what I do, cleaning RAM, whatever, it only dims but will not turn off. It used to turn off, but stopped doing so about a week ago.
Around that time I installed Co0kie's Home Tab 1.7.1 and thought that might be the problem, but I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, same problem and I don't think it's the cause. All the settings in the CHT Editor are OK too, I think.
Can anyone help? Maybe I could alter the registry setting directly, and if so could someone please tell me what it is?
Many thanks,
David
