One thing that annoyed me about the iphone was having to delete every individual email to clear the inbox. Then, you'd have to go into the trash folder and start manually deleting them from there too. WM was great for this, you'd just hit "clear inbox" and they would all dissappear. hurrah!
Android/hero seems to have copied the stupid iphone method. or... am i missing something? is there a better way to delete items from the inbox?
In the Mail app, press the menu button and select delete. Then you are able to select multiple messages to delete in one go

Yeah, thats what i'm refering too. If you had 50 emails you'd have to tap each one individually to delete it.
No, you don't.
When you are in the screen to select which messages you want to delete, click Menu again. It will give you the options to Mark all or Unmark All. This way you can delete ALL messages in one go. Remember that the Menu button changes screen over screen, many hidden functionality is there

I have a Sony Ericsson P990i and it has an option where you can tick all the boxes of messages you want deleted and hit delete and they are all gone. do we have that in our Jade or does anybody know a program to do the same? TIA
yes, menu->tools->empty "SMS\MMS"
Or in "All Messages" view, just highlight the messages you wanna delete and then tap Menu>Delete...
Thanks for the info, but I am doing both procedures already,
but if you delete or select a message thread, then all will be lost, what I am looking for is for example there is one or two messages on a particular thread that I wanted to leave and delete the rest option, which I have on my P990i.
Done a search but didn't come up with much, so apologies if it's been asked before.
Is there an option/reg hack that means you can select e-mails in an inbox without opening them? With the lack of directional buttons and touch only, I can't navigate to an e-mail that I just want to delete rather than read.
Any tips?

While you are in inbox, open the right soft menu & in select messages option select several.
Now, select messages you want to delete & keeping over any one of selected messages click & hold.
Now you get an option to delete the messages you have selected.

I have just received my new (and quite beautifull) HD2.... it works just great.. but there's one tiny problem, maybe someone can help me
After downloading my mail to the device I tried to delete all the messages in one folder, but I just can delete one by one... Everytime I try to drag to select several mail the HD2 keeps scrolling up or down and I can only select one message at a time... Is there any way for doing this??? Can't believe this silly programming mistake.
If I can't do multi-selection on my e-mail then the e-mail on the HD2 is useless crap... HELP PLEASE!!!
I think there is a select message option in the menu at right bottom of the inbox screen.

That would have been the most intelligent idea for HTC... but nope... there isn't such option...
My logic tells me to go to the classic Edit menu and click Select All... but it does not exists...
Any other solution?? can't believe I'm the only one with this problem!

Open the inbox and go to Menu. You'll have to scroll down to see it, but there is a Select Messages option. You want the "Several" option in there.
You can then select multiple messages.

Yep... is was as easy as that... Thank you both for the tip!
I'm still not used to scrolling down on menus that don't have scroll bars... I think I must be missing a lot of configs because of this!!

theres a very faint scrollbar on the white pop-up menus, a little hard to see sometimes!

I thought it was as simple as long pressing the thread to delete, or hitting menu and then delete all? Are you referring to texting?
found out if anyone wants to know,
go to contacts, select history, menu, view by, select just messages.
In the Email app I cannot find a way to select all the messages, but I have to select them one by one (for example if I want to empty the deleted mail). Is there an alternative way?

You can clear all of the messages in one section. For example Trash. If you go to Trash and swipe down just a little you'll see two buttons, Clear and Edit. I have no idea what Edit does but Clear deletes all the messages
