how many on here have recieved 'the' text from orange? - Touch HD General

unless you've been living under a rock(or any such sayings), you either recieved 'the' text or read about it on the internet/heard from a friend etc.
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1825687
basically from 14th september orange(uk) are putting up the minimum charge of the calls(calls to 08x numbers and all call once you've used up your inclusive minutes) from 5p to almost 15p not their per min charge as some people seem to getting it mixed up(i.e. if you call for 1 second, currently you get charged 5p but from 14th september it'll be almost 15p).
I got my text yesterday and cancelled mine in the last hour, asked to transfered to payg(should recieve the sim within 30days). going to sit back and see what comes out over the next few months before deciding what to do. I've had my touch hd since january, got 11months left(the 7th month started on 26th july) so saving me £330 on my contract(racoon 30, £25/month + £5/month 500mb web. had to pay ~£175 for the handset but got £130 credited to my account on my 1st bill so didn't have to pay any more for the 1st 4 bills).
as per the title how hany have recieved this text and cancelled? also anyone without the text manage to cancel? I know 1 person has on here as seen they put their touch hd for sale.
p.s. I've not seen another thread regarding this on here and search isn't finding any for me either.

I'm on a panther and I can either cancel or get double my entitlements - minutes, text and data and £10.00 off my bill
Got my phone in Dec however the PAYG route sounds good as there are no phones I'm interested in.
Nokia N97 seems ok but it would be for wife and not me. I like the HD.
They really have given a load of people a way out of long contracts.

I haven't got "the" text yet, but it wouldn't suprise me! I hate Orange with a passion.
To anyone considering going with Orange look around first, their customer service is absolutely awfull! Having said that they did help me out for a little while, but I had to fight tooth and nail just to get a decent service from them!
When my HTC Diamond was playing up I had several replacements (I personally think the phone is poorly designed) and finally when I asked for a different model replacement the only thing they would offer me was a purple Nokia! (Bearing in mind this was when the HTC Diamond first came out!). I had been with them for many years before this and it's always been the same, I'm still waiting a phone call from their customer service manager from January!!! I only stick with them for the promise of better service, but I think I will change soon.
But as was already mentioned you can get out of your contract with the change in the T's & C's.

Evening all,
I've got 2 months left on my orange contract and haven't got the text yet. I'm planning to switch to O2 so I imagine there should be no problems with getting my PAC code now instead of waiting the 2 months or buying out my contract?
Cheers

Well, I have about 12 months left on my contract and I am contemplating contacting Orange to do just this.
I received the text on the 21st and I have been feeling a bit uneasy about the changes in price. Haven't really had the chance to look into it yet.
Must say this could cost Orange a pretty penny.

BTW: Check out this page on the moeny saving link forum that was initially posted:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1825687&page=12
Check the bottom where it says:
Another trick being attempted by some customer service agents is to demand the return of the handset. However as terms and conditions
“14.1 your Device is not a part of your Contract - your Device and Accessories are acquired by you outside the terms of your Contract

Well I must have been living under a rock, because I knew nothing about this! But as long as it's only to 08xx numbers and if I go over my allowance, then it doesn't really bother me :/ am I right there?
But...do you reckon I could ring up and threaten them with cancelling my contract, and then get freebies or money off?

should have said that there is also a change in the data pricing as well, at the moment it's max £1.47 per day but from september it's flat rate of ~60p 25mb limit per day.
s.bounford if you read the site I linked to, the 1st post explains all the changes. but if you're happy with what you're on, don't go over your mins, call 08xx number etc then don't need to do anything.

Just got off the phone with Orange, the guy instantly said that I was well within my rights to cancel the contract and keep the phone!
However, they did offer me a fairly decent tarriff reduction when I mentioned this.
Ironic the first piece of good customer service comes when I'm telling them that I'm leaving!

what did they offer? I was thinking about asking if they could lower mine from £29.37/month(£30/month once the vat goes back up to 17.5%) to £15/month, but have read people saying they've been offered £10/month discount so doubt they'd done it (I'd have been asking for £15/month discount).
how do I turn the data off so that it doesn't connect through edge/3g/hdspa(or what ever it is)? as I'm going payg once I get the sim through, I don't want it to be eating up my credit(its £2 per day on payg). I've gone through settings and turned data off before but still find that it connects and use up data(I currently have the 500mb/month so it hasn't been a problem), I've read about this nodata cab from modco is that the best option(will I still be able to connect through wifi?)?

I use NoData and it works perfectly for me. It lists the three data connections (Orange Internet, Oange Wap and Orange MMS) and lets you toggle each one between enabled/disabled (I only have Orange MMS enabled). You can still use everything else, including WiFi, flawlessly

I had the txt but I deleted by accident but I'm still going to ring them up and cancel my phone. Opportunites like this don't happen often lol.

I don't understand, I've been an Orange customer now for just 10 years and 3 months ago when I upgraded, they gave me the Touch HD for free,
1200 mins
1200 sms
Unlimited Browsingthis
Free Home Broadband and lastly
Free 1g per month mobile dongle.
Total £24 per month 18 month contract.
Now I am yet to receive this text but somebody tell me, just where am I to get a better deal and keep my number?

They offered me £5 reduction on my contract with an extra 3 magic numbers and unlimited landline phonecalls. Considering I was only paying £25 a month for 600 minutes, 500 texts, unlimited data, magic numbers, etc, now its going down to £19.47 inc VAT I think I might be tempted to stay!
Also offered me an instant upgrade to the HTC 3G for free aswell.
As far as the no data thing goes I'm not too sure as similarly with the unlimited data, I've had no need.
However, the latest ROM from Dutty has a disable 3G mode which may or may not help.
Sorry I couldn't be any more help.

Hi I was on Panther , i have been playing email pingpong between HTC and orange , my bog std blackstone has some glitches, i tried to install the new firware from HTC but because orange had put on their own firware it would not happen.. this was the opportunity i needed... the woman on the phone got really stroppy with me but having argued the toss with her for 10 mins, i got through to cancellations, i was told my contract would end tommorow, i asked for a PAC code, and was then told my contract would terminate when the PAC code was used...
I have since found out i can get 30% off all o2 contracts through work... happy days

Hi
I got the TEXT a couple of weeks ago and had completely forgotten about it untill this thread popped up..... Thanks
I phoned them today and went through to disconnections and the person - who was very knowledgable tried to offer me some goodies to stay but I have just about had enough of the poor coverage in my area that I declined..So I am leaving orange in the morning - joined now with Vodafone on PAYG and for the 1st time in 6mths am ableto actually make a call from my sofa!!!!!! no more trips to the bottem of the garden in the rain for me!!
And I reckon I've saved in excess of £200 in the process....
Thanks for the thread....

Just waiting for the text for me, so I can get out of my 18 month contract.
Got about 8 months left.
Then I'm off to an O2 simplicity tariff on rolling 30 days notice till I see something else that intrigues me.

Do you guys know from which date the contracts are effected by the price increases, I signed up 7th July 09, am I effected and will I be able to terminate the contract? The reception is soooo poor down my road.
Surely orange would make sure all new contracts signed within the last few months abide with their price increases.

I can remember getting this txt and ignoring it, but it feels like longer than 1 month ago.
Does anyone know when they started sending them out?
Thanks

Hi,
I'm only half way through my contact, I received the text just over a week ago. Should I be able to cancel my contract?

What a cracking deal on my XDA mini s, well happy!!!!

I don't believe it, just went out and got my XDA mini s today after only 4 days of deciding i wanted a new phone in the first place!!.
Liked the look of the mini s, asked a few questions on this forum, looked around at the deals and went into an O2 shop today just to have a look at it.
Saw the mini s and played with it a bit and liked it so said to the salesperson, ok i'll have one.
I said O2 website are doing it for £79.99 which he said fine to (was free on like O2 400 or something, but i was going for a better deal!)
So then i asked if it was in stock which it was, so i says OK i'll have it on data 5 tariff. Couple of umms and arrs and spoke to a colleague and he said Ok we can do that.
So then i put the nail in the coffin, are you doing trade ins. Ummm arrr, i'll just check he says. Comes back, yes we can do a £30 trade in for old phone and charger.
So luckily i'd gone with my original nokia (14 years old with pull out aerial) Made them laugh when i handed it over, and bought back good nostalgic memories for me!
So deal i got was £79.99 - £30 trade in (which will come to me as a cheque) on a £9.40 a month tariff (i don't really use calls much so thats good for me)
SO a years cost for this phone is going to be £162.79, bloody brill !!!!!!!!
Just charging the thing up now, and will play with it later, i'm one happy customer!!
I'll then shove my orange sim in as that the number i use. I've been led to believe that these are already unlocked, but if its not, i'll search the forum for info.
And also get this, just noticed my new O2 mobile number has my birthday date as the last 4 digits. How personalised is that!!!!
Must admit thats the first time i've bought a phone from a shop (always used internet) but thats the best deal and most pleasant purchase i've had in ages!!!!
just picked up my XDA Mini s from O2 this lunchtime on data 5 only.
The assistant looked stunned that i could have it on such a low tariff and without a voice plan, but she rang HQ and they authorised it without problems,
£49.99 with £30 trade in for my archaic Motorola Mr30 !
But by the time you've sent a few txt's and made some calls would it not have been as cheap to go for a tariff with free calls and txt's included?
I pay £20 a month and get 100 xnet mins and 500 txt's as well as 2mb of GPRS.
not really, because i have just also bought a motorola L6 on leisure time plus which includes 1000 off peak minutes and 100 texts per month, and it has 11 months free line rental, so total cost for the year for me is £20!
got to agree with the origional poster as if he had a second tarif, all the bells and whistles could be added to that and forget about that sim altogether , common at 162 per year you cant get any better...
rgds
jim
Phones was already unlocked and works a treat with my orange sim. I like that one as its an easy number (has 1234 in it!) and i've had it for ages. Also i've got it on an orange no monthly charge with 10p a min calls. They dropped that tariff, but as i already had it, they cant force me to change!
I usually have about £3 call charges a month, so basically nothing.
The data tariff O2 sim will probably just go in the box and not get used. After a year i'll just cancel it, or could i turn it into a PAYG to keep the number?
One thing though, as its a data tariff, does that mean i can't make/receive calls on it? When i had that O2 sim in, signal strength was full, but it wouldn't receive or call (just either dropped line, or dead line)
Do i have to register it or something with O2?
Cheers
True, mine too has only data and whilst the signal strength is there it drops any attempt to make a call and the line is dead if you try and call it. I have heard that you can have voice enabled at the PAYG rate. I asked in store and they said i would need to speak to O2 customer services if i wanted this enabling.
I just got the same deal with O2 - The salesman said they are popular phones (funny that). I'll be using my Vodafone SIM in it and maybe swapping back to O2 for the data.
Now to source a big memory card and remove all the O2 branding

Orange Tarrifs for the Touch HD

Post the deal you got here... Lets work together to make sure we all get the deal we want out of Orange!
What were you offered and how much?
For example today I got offered 3gig fair usage but i'm sure thats a load of rubbish!
Phone £49.99 - with £100 rebate in credit on account
Panther 45 - £20.00/month (long term customer discount)
free upgrade to 500mb/month data.
however i called orange today to ask about data usage as I have seen 1000mb else where and I was advised that there is no additional charge for use over my 500mb a month and that I would only receive a text message telling me I had gone over the fair usage amount - when asked what would happen if this was to continue I was told there was no penalties what so ever. (I asked that this conversation was adequately recorded on their system) In practice I think they are using the fair use system as a sales tool when in fact it does not really exist.
It does sound like it very much depends on your previous usage / length of time with Orange / your bartering skills LOL
I've been with Orange forever, but my bill is generally quite low - I got a deal which wan't quite as good as that cost wise (also on Panther 45), but did include the unlimited data usage.
Orange have a 'Blackberry connect' deal running at the mo, which offers unlimited data use for £5 a month - I guess they might have the option to apply this to non-Blackberry phones too?
Took a couple of "I need to speak to my manager" breaks, and I was on the phone to them for an hour.
But I was happy with the resulting deal
Great idea for this thread, I was just about to start one up however it would be appreciatied if all tariffs offered are marked as "New Contract" or "Upgrade".
I popped into town today to buy the Touch HD from Orange as a new contract and see how well I could do.
Well I've gotta warn people DO NOT BUY FROM NOTTINGHAM (Broadmarsh) unless you want to PAY FULL PRICE. Completely un-negotiable! 'Area Manager' refused to offer any discount what so ever because it was a 'just release handset'. Still can't believe that I suggested that I move upto £40p/m and was met with the same contempt!
Whilst chatting to the other staff, the lad let it slip that the 'area manager' has already given as many discounts as she's allowed for the month and its unlikely that I'll get anywhere even talking to her. Unfortunately, she then told him to get rid of me since I wasn't going to get anything (obviously she didn't like the look of me, loitering in the shop waiting for her to deal with some OAPs buying a topup).
I can't fault the lad I was talking to, since he's got no authorisation and was very apologetic but despite saying that he's practically got a sale on his hands and its effectively ££££ walking out the door and ends up as lost revenue, neither the him or the area manager would offer any kind of discount.
Oh well, next place is Derby I guess - hopefully the manager hasn't spent their quota of discounts

Hmmm I was informed in-store that the only data tariff they have is the 250mb @ £7.50p/m - I repeatedly asked if there was any other options, teirs, or offers which would increae my limit and he responded everytime with "the all we've got, we are really uncompetative with out data charges".
Mine was sort of new (I've got to cancel my previous [expired] contract), as I believe that Orange don't officially have stock for upgrades at the mo.
I've always found that I get the best deal by phoning them.
You might (if you're lucky) get a better deal face to face in store - but only if the manager likes you / has deals left.
And if they have any in stock anyway.
Obviously, you stand a chance of physically walking away with one in your hand doing it that way - but at least the call centre people have access to centralised stock, not just the 3 (or however many) that have been delivered to the store that week
Are these 18 month or 12 month contracts? I can't get a good deal on 12 months (They have conveniently lost a good 12 month offer i was made on Saturday!)
Mine was 18 month.
Anything else I forgot to add?
I'm on an 18 month contract (had to move from 12) This is why they offered the £100 credit.
Also i cant imagine getting a better upgrade deal from the store as they operate on a commission basis, the store would only offer better terms on a new contact for low use customers.
touch hd
I'm currently paying about £40 a month including the mobile internet option, contract finishes in a month.
I was offered £15 a month for 1000 mins, loads of texts and apparently unlimited internet. I have to pay £120 for the phone though.
I'll believe it when I get the phone in my hand; still waiting for them to get more stock, I was told it should be tomorrow (Wed Nov 10th).
This was over the phone btw.
They aren't even making me quit Orange and start a new contract like the have every time for the past eight years.
Sounds like a good deal to me but I'm wondering if they will "lose" this offer when they get more stock
£35/month, panther 45
250MB data (grrr)
£100 for phobe with £100 cashback.
I'm not sure how you guys got much better deals than me... :/
My deal:
Phone cost: £199 but will get £60 credit on bills so no bill for a few months!
Data: Unlimited data (FUP Capped at 500MB)
Mins: 300 X Network Mins
100 Txt Messages
Unlimited Landline calls
£20pm - 18month contract
7 Days DSR / Cooling off
This was the best deal I could get since my last 3 bills were quite low.
There was no negotiating with them on the handset price, although I did try - including threats to leave as I was out of contract. Sometimes that works and sometimes not.
Touch HD in stock for upgrades - just got a text. However they will not discount from £199 for the handset (although I could get £20 a month for Racoon)
Think I may buy out of the contract I'm on, and go with either the Expansys deal or the mobiles.co.uk instead
Doh!
Just called up Orange and they couldn't find the 15 p/m offer on their system.
Apparently it was from a different department so I'm waiting for a call back with someone from disconnections rather than retentions.
Will keep you all updated
got it ordered
It's now ordered and should be delivered tomorrow or maybe Friday.
Panther 45 for £40 a month with a £25 discount getting it down to 15 for the duration of the 18 month contract.
Free broadband if I want it (i don't), 1200 minutes, 500 texts, unlimited (250MB) internet and £129 for the phone.
And I get to keep my number. Looks like Orange have got over their "brand new customer only" mindset.
Out of the four people I spoke to there was only one muppet, a definite improvement and they now tell you how long you will have to wait to speak to someone instead of keeping you on hold for thirty minutes.
After years of slagging Orange I'm now actually happy with them.
Woo hoo!
brilliant
been playing with it all day and i've got to say i'm impressed.
only gripe so far is landscape doesn't work for all apps. GSen fixes this though and also turns it off when you put it face down.
touchflo i pretty cool but i miss spb diary so am experimenting with it turned off.
the options for claunch don't render on the big screen but appart from that it's a wicked bit of kit.
phoned orange for the pac code as I'm thinking of moving to O2 home broadband, so moving my mobile as well(to get the ~£5/month reduction the broadband). after asking for the pac code(they offered their broadband for £8/month(as I don't have orange at my exchange so can't get it free) on their home start(only 10gb usage), the home max(40gb) for £23/month) I asked to see what offer they could do on the touch hd(wasn't expecting much as the experiance back in october asking for the omnia wasn't fruitful(wouldn't go under £110 on £30/month contract), £25/month(500mins(quite a bit more then my needs), 100texts(not a big texter) & unlim land line(most of my calls are to land line)), handset for £175(with £130 credit to my following months bill, so £45 for the handset) + £5/month for 'unlim' web(500mb, used to be 250mb. apperently increased from boxing day). I'm going to see if I can get a couple quid more off a month and/or the handset down to £150(not hopefull on that).
I'm tempted to go ahead and get the touch hd from orange, but tryin to decide due to the O2 brodband. also thinking of waiting till the N97 comes out next year(1st half of 2009 according to what mobile).
The deal I ended up with is:
£49.99 for phone
£50 rebate
1200 Minutes
500 Texts
Limited to 250mb fair usage ... (but they always say unlimited when I call ??)
£30 a month
Amazing phone. Well worth it.

Thats a cracking good deal for 30 quid a month you got there... just hope you didnt have to get on your knee's for it lol .
Anyways....you guys forget about orange and their rubish about not available for upgrades etc and head on to mobiles.co.uk and grab it from there either as upgrade or new contract (free hd ) ...either way I found it nuch simpler than dealing with the lovelly people at orange and bagged a unlocked and unbranded HD through my Mrs upgrade for 60 quid (shes quite happy with her trusty pink nokia ) and now running my o2 sim that is due for upgrade in february but will just change it for the simplicity tariff since wont need a new phone for now but will keep it as a contingency plan for the HD successor :-D
NEVER EVER EVER buy a phone from your local orange shop - they are a useless set of twits who have no idea of half of the capabilities of the phone and then try to rip you off - for example:
couple of weeks ago I visited them (under the impression the Touch HD was exclusive to them) - They could only offer me either £200 for the handset on a £35 per month contract OR £50 for the handset on £45 per month handset (18 months). At the time I was happy to pay this, but put a deadline on them for the next following day as they didnt have the device in stock and said they would have to procure it.
That night I went on teh interwibble and Carphone warehouse were doing them for £137 for the handset on £35 per month contract. Phones 4 U however were doing them FREE on £35 per month contract.
I visited the orange shop next day ready to bargain - but luckily they didnt get the Touch HD in stock, so told them where to go and ordered it from Phones4U over the phone. 2 Days later a VERY happy bunny having saved £200!!!
Moral of the story - tell orange to go play with themselves and goto a third party provider like Phones4u
300£ for phone
270£ cash back
800 min, unlimited texts and unlimited landline
500mb/month fair usage policy.
also received a samsung g600 to keep my other orange number.
35£/ month

Orange Bill: Over £200! / Data Transfer

Hey there, I own the Touch HD on Orange, I really was finding the internet service through T-mobile and three great, they have good Fair usage policies.
I was told by the person who sold me my phone that I would be warned or have a flag applied to my account if i were to go over 500MB!
Not the case.. I've been hit with a huge bill, and I've argued with 3 customer representatives and unfortunately have not gotten anywhere. I've read a few people on forums who have not had this problem but have been warned and told the same story!!
I have the 500MB Add-on Internet (told it was a fair usage policy), but it turns out ive used about 700MB and been charged roughly £1.10 per extra MB which is shocking!!!
Any assistance would be much appreciated, Ive cancelled my direct debit in hopes to get this matter resolved, I couldn't believe it!
Thanks.
G.Matharu
Sounds grossly unfair, and you can cite examples of other users receiving different treatment to yourself. Ask them why you are being treated differently to other customers, and if you get nowhere ask to speak with a supervisor in their customer services team. Quite often the "first line" support you get follow a prescribed course of action and cannot operate on too much discretion.
Good luck.
Perhaps other users on Orange (or O2 for that matter, who also have a ridiculously small data cap) can post up their experience of exceeding their data ceiling, and we can keep a dossier of evidence on here? Just a thought.
I recently got my Touch HD and with my renewal i blagged the free unlimited internet (or 500mb as you say)
Before i took out the contract i asked what the fair use was, they said 500mb and she said, and i quote "You will have to be on all day every day to exceed it" so if this happens to me, which i expect it will, i shall be getting a copy of that conversation recording and see what their excuse is
I have exceeded the data limit on my plan with O2 (here in Germany) twice before - and both times they took the amount for the extra data off my bill in good will!
But I didn't exceed my plan as much as you did...
BTW: O2 has by far the best customer service have encountered so far! Atleast here in Germany...
That sounds horrible, I hope you manage to get that sorted out. I have never been with 3 but I know these operators are tricky characters.
I am on O2 £30pm with no data package, the O2 lady said on the phone that if I use my data connection then I will get charged for data upto £1 and that is it (fair usage policy applys) so if i reconnect within those 24hr of a give day then it wont cost me anymore than the £1 already, which if you did this everyday then it would cost about £35~.
This is why she said they recommend the 'unlimited' bolt on for £5.99, which is 500Mb per month but i didn't ask about if I went over that, I would hope the £1's worth of data deal would kick in but I'm betting the money grabbers will not honor that for all thier customers.
i have had this trouble but with pay as you go sim, i found out a few things that was using my credit.
the weather update, go into options and deselect them so that it doesnt download new weather data when not in active sync. just go into active sync n do it that way.
quickgps thingy, disable the updates as before active sync updates this everytime the phone is synched.
wap, when you close the internet, it leaves the connection open , well it does on occasion on mine. just go into the settings / communication in manilla and make sure data connection is off.
hope this helps. but i went through 10.00 within a few days without using the phone well to call anyway so hope this helps with others.
if thers anything i missed post it and a solution
Orange data rates are so uncompetitive it's unbelivable, I was on the phone to CS this evening about an unrelated matter but asked if there were any plans to change this, and the answer was a resounding no
I got my HD in from Orange in March on a 'Panther' plan whch came with the 500Mb package included, but they also said should I go over the limit the MAXIMUM they would charge would be £1.50 a day. While still seriously poor that would result in a charge of £46.50 in a 31 day month assuming that 500Mb+ was used on day one. It might be worth seeing if there is any mileage there, perhaps offer to change plan if they would consider bringing these outrageous charges into line with that plan?
I had a stock unlocked Kaiser and was with o2 on a 3Gb monthly package and was to impatient to wait until I had the money to buy a stock unlocked HD. I was in the Orange Shop with my wife upgrading her phone and I just couldn't stop myself, I asked if they had one in stock and they did. So that was that I had to have one................................. I wish I'd have waited
Anyway, Good Luck.
Thanks so much everyone for your input seriously!!
I'm going to see what I can do, I'l report back here, Unfortunately I really don't think they're going to listen, the last guy I spoke to, told me that I can't keep phoning up to keep speaking to different representatives. The way he said it, was just really rude.
I've been with T-mobile and Three's data tariffs, and they've both been great, Three does fail to connect sometimes, and T-mobile is sometimes slow, but Orange had none of these issues but clearly has a bigger one!
Thanks a lot again. I'll post soon, Bill is due 14th April.
Whilst I love Orange Service (coverage/signal are great for me), Orange Customer Service is absolutely useless to the degree of insanity.
I had difficulties with their Upgrades team not providing me with a good upgrade onto the HTC Touch HD. I ended a rather frustrated and unproductive conversation with "Thank you for your help but I think I am going to look elsewhere as Orange are not offering me a competitive deal". Two minutes later, a call on my mobile from another mobile... it was the customer representative from Orange calling me to complain, say that I was rude and my comment was unjustified.
They offered me a £35pm 18mo contract and Id have to pay £X for the handset whereas I picked up the Touch HD from Phones4U online for £30pm 18mo contract, free handset. Cost me £15 to unlock, £1 for a T-Mobile SIM, £5 to top up and 1 week to transfer my number from Orange to T-Mobile and back to Orange.
It does not surprise me that Orange have been flagged up here and I thank you for your post. Since receiving my Touch HD approximately 3 weeks ago, I have used £1.69 of data outside the Free Evenings/Weekends Orange World usage plan which is tacked onto your contract for free.
It also saddens me that Orange has probably the worst data rates of all of the providers. I would have switched if only I was able to get the HTC Touch HD on another network.
One piece of humour I found when talking to a guy from Phones4U in store is that both O2 and T-Mobile refused to stock the Touch HD because it failed to meet their quality standards, same with previous HTC models. The Phones4U stores refused to stock the Touch HD as the previous HTC's had too many problems. I have to say, I loved my LG Viewty when I got that 18 months ago but the Touch HD blows away anything I have used previous.
gmmatharu12 - I hope your issue is resolved and I will be keeping a close eye on this thread regarding the data situation with Orange. We can only hope they improve their customer service to meet the standard of network service tthey provide.
I had a similar problem with Orange, only I didnt have any data package to exceed. I didn't really even use it to any great ammount, browsing for football scores a few times in the month maybe.
Then I recieve a bill for £130, £70-odd pounds worth of data.
Naturally I queried it and I stopped my direct debit until they could explain it a bit more. At the time I had a SE K850i and I was supposed to have downloaded over 30MB of data in the six times I connected up over the course of the month.
Because they cannot log where you visited or what you downloaded there was no way of proving I had used that ammount (I assure you I couldn't have d/l that much just browsing a few times).
Anyway, the customer services chap explained that ALL Orange tarifs should have a policy where the MAXIMUM data charge one could acrue over the space of 24hrs is £1.47 and my account must have "slipped through the net". So I agreed to pay the maximum daily charge for the 6 occasions I did use the web, and they credited the rest.
Try to see if this is stated anywhere in their T&C's, you definately have a case.

Snap. I ended up going to O2 from a mobiles.co.uk deal. I guess Orange actually did me a favour trying to charge me for the phone. I had renewed 12 years in a row and really wasn't getting value compared to new customes or customers on other networks. Them forcing my hand saved me a few bob so for that - I thank them.

Can you believe I could have had exactly the same contract from mobiles.co.uk that Orange were offering me, only with a free phone, and Orange would have had to have paid mobiles.co.uk a commision. And they still wouldn't match it!
3 weeks into my O2 contract - no issues so far.
3 weeks using my Touch HD - Lovin it.

Much the same story for me. I've been with Orange for about 14 years and where I cannot complain about the signal/call quality in that time I have noticed a complete disintegration of their customer services.
Same issues where I wanted the HD for free but they said I'd have to pay £179 - even though their own website was offering it for free (all be it on a 24 month contract which i didn't mind signing because like I say the signal/call quality where I am is excellent).
In my experience - Orange have always charged £1 per meg for internet access but one word of warning people - their inclusive 500Mb is only orange world pages - I was told that if you navigate away you will be told that the page is going to be charged for but I don't think that is the case - you seem to be told that "this page is free" and I assume that if you don't see that then you are charged. It's only my opinion, I have yet to confirm this from customer services but can't be bothered spending the 45 minutes you have to wait to actually get to speak to someone
Maybe it is just me but... i've been with orange for about 10 years and i have never had a bad experience with their customer service. Of all the companies i've ever dealt with they have by far and away the best customer service. always been helpful and polite to me.
When the guy on upgrades couldn't offer me a decent deal on the HD he gve me the direct line number for retentions and told me what to say to them to get the best deal and it worked.
Also found there insurance to be excellent, i've rang up at 10pm at night with a dodgy handset and had a shiny new one there at 9am the following morning... can't really get any better than that.
I have an option on my account for the 500mb unlimited bundle but my account also shows up as having the OW capped daily usage so i guess this is what was referrend to earlier about being charged a maximum per day.
Well I've very recently switched to Orange from T-Mobile, I wasn't having great signal coverage with T-Mobile and decided that I could switch to Orange for the HD.
When I brought the phone I queried the Data plans, I had seen a deal on the t'interweb and ws happy to sign up as long as I had similar flexibility with connection as I did with Web'n'Walk.
What I was sold was an 'unlimited' data plan.
2 days later I read online that there's a 500MB limit.
So I ring back and ask about this, as I wasn't told of the limit, I REALLY had to push to get a 'yes' response from them, that there was a 500MB limit.
I got a lot of 'You should be fine, its practically unlimited' and 'No-one really uses the full quota you'll be fine' and after I finally blew at them and basically said 'Look...you twats, yes or no 500MB limit or not?' then finally I got told yes.
So they do not clarify this data plan, over the phone, the description on the internet is not descriptive, you do not get warned about the upcoming 500MB boundary, sounds like an easy cash in for Orange.
Having read this thread, I will re-install my GPRS data counter that I used to have on my Kaiser, sounds like I'll need it.
I bet business users get treated a whole lot different.
i had the same problem with orange in m first month £60 pounds worth of data.
I argued with them and they said there was nothing they could do and billed me for the rest of the contract lenth!! £700 please.
so i Tried A orange pay as yo go sim card and for £10 a month(Dolphin Package) you get 300 hundred messeges and free access to facebook, Bebo and myspace a month but ive never got charged for going on the wap on my phone no matter what i access or i download!! BRILLIANT
And i get to keep this brilliant PHONE

I would have agreed with you up until recently. When it came to upgrading, they just werent interested in keeping my service, and actually got quite rude about it. Its pot luck whether you get a helpfull person answer your call or one of their not so helpfull staff, which to me seemed the majority towards the end.
Im pleased your content with their service. And im equally pleased I now have nothing to do with them.

I spoke to two people on their online customer services that suggested I would be able to secure the £30pm 24 mo contract for the HD which was an online exclusive.
The upgrades team, on my second attempt I got a helpful young gentleman who advised me that he could not offer that plan and the handset but he passed me through to retentions as he suggested they had access to better deals and as such should hook me up with something suitable.
Retentions were rather rude at which point I said that Orange Customer Services cant tell their "bum from their elbow" and asked for a definitive answer on my situation from a supervisor only to have no success.
I found it relatively easy to get my PAC off them and to transfer my number back in (even if customer services told me to ring 150 from my Orange phone and press option 1 option 1 for Transferring numbers)
Try the (very old) trick of speaking to the Executive Office. I don't know how - there's probably a number knocking around somewhere.
I check my usage online at the Orange site and would suggest others do the same.
For example:
data
250MB Internet Browsing megabytes remaining : 223.4153
Also, when you first get your phone, call them up and check with them what the package offers. Go through it word by word - and record the call (er, do stock ROMs include call recording software?) Failing that make notes of the deal, and the time of the call, so you can refer them back to it in a couple of months time.
TBH I'd do this with any operator, not just Orange.
It's probably not helpful to those of you on Orange contracts, but the O2 equivalent is actually effectively cap-less.
The 200MB only applies to PAYG, and when I phoned up to get the data bolt-on added to my account (contract through Mobiles.co.uk) I asked them about the data limit, their reply was basically along the lines of "there's no limit, as long as you don't take the piss". I use the mobile web on my HD very heavily, RSS feeds, mobile internet, weather updates, email, and I've never had any problems with the data.
I've never gone over my limit, but I was told by Orange customer service that due to the fact it's fair usage policy rather than a straight 500MB limit I'd have to use well over 1GB before they would start to charge me. I feel pretty cheated by them if that isn't the case, I guess I'm just lucky that I'm near Wi-Fi most of the time.

where to get a HD2 and how...

I appreciate that quite a few of you have now got one but some of us are still struggling to get our paws on one Personally I want one through o2 but cant seem to get to the front of the queue for placing an order! I could jump ship but would like to stick with them so the burning question is how did you guys do it? Did those of you on o2 get it through a 3rd party eg: paid towards it with someone like carphone warehouse or bmobiles or did you wander into a store who happened to have one fall through their letterbox as you stepped in? When you've had to put up with o2 telling you contradicting "pork pies" about how they haven't shipped any and dont do it yet it makes you start to wonder

Personally, I bought mine outright from Expansys.com, SIM free. I've got a monthly contract with O2 where I get enough minutes and texts with a web bolt-on for less than £20 a month. It suits me, but then I had £500 to spare (ish )
I always like the idea of going SIM free, in case something comes out that I really want but can't afford it. I'll just get an 18 or 24 month contract in that situtation, and probably try and get something like a PS3 with it, so I can sell my current phone and the console, so I'll end up with a new phone and a wad of cash. That should help make me feel better about signing up to a contract
Since I went the SIM free route, I can't really advise on who has them and who doesn't, as far as contracts go.

Bad news on the O2 front, they finally had some in store yesterday so I could go over and find out what they will be costing on contract. To get it for free you have to sign up for a £45/month contract and that only gives you 1200mins and 500texts. You dont even get the internet package that you get with the iphone. Go for a lower tarif package and you are looking at £100 for the phone..
I will be waiting til vodafone get new stock (with an updated rom) on 11th December. Free phone for £35/month and you get 900mins UNLIMITED texts (3000 FUP), UNLIMITED landline calls (3000mins FUP), UNLIMITED internet (500MB FUP). Plus the vodafone HD's seem to be unlocked and unbranded so in my opinion thats a winning deal and well worth the wait
Each to their own mskip..you do know that the deal you're looking at gets you an extra 300mins if you do it online? all of course assuming that you can live with them making you wait for an indefinate period of time to despatch it

Yeah actually the 300 extra minutes is available online or over the phone. Over the phone the order gets processed right away for next day delivery so I think im gona be doing it that way lol. Waited long enough for it I figure my patience will stretch to a few more days
Could have got it from a vodafone store 2 weeks ago but they dont offer the internet package and I guess im a tight git I want the most value for my money haha.
we're singing from the same book there buddy..I'm hoping to get one on something like the palms tarif and preferably as a business customer..unltd 02 calls,10 unltd land lines and ultd www would do me nicely at £35 ish a mnth even over 24mths as you can upgrade at the 12mth point and get whtaevers hot then
You guys are making me jealous :\
Back here in Portugal you pay 15 euros for a 100min plan plus 15€/month for a 500MB data plan...
Just try some different vodafone stores, I went to 20 different and one could tell me 2 weeks ago that they would get one that afternoon so I directly reserved it. If you can't find any on stock the next shipment will come in on 17th of december (north ireland).
Its free with a 35 pounds bussines plan it includes 1000 minutes, Unlimited texts, Unlimited Landlines, Unlimited Internet and Vodafone Passport.
Good luck!

Not strictly true. I performed my upgrade two weeks ago yesterday when O2 first got them in stock. I did what I always do when going for an upgrade, threaten to leave. I was told a £35, 18 month tariff would mean the phone would cost £98. I asked to be put through to retentions where I asked for my PAC code. When they asked why I explained I wasn't happy with the fact O2 wanted to charge me £100 for a phone I can get from Vodafone for nothing (not strictly true but he didn't appear to realise that). After a few more persuasive arguments and another threat to leave, he said he 'managed' to get the phone down to £1.72 for me on an 18 month, £35 tariff with 600 minutes, 1000 texts and unlimited data (or 750mb to be precise).
However, I have heard they have cottoned onto people doing this and are now refusing point blank to offer the phone for less than £98. It's got to be worth a shot though.

You sure about that? I got unlimited data the same as the iPhone on a £35 a month tariff. Oh, and be careful with Vodafone's fair usage data policy, you get charged as soon as you go over 500mb, even in the first month. O2's is much better, you have to go over 750mb on a regular basis before they threaten to charge you.
EDIT: just checked and you're wrong there mate - you get a free bolton that you select yourself on all tariffs including and above the 600 minute £35 a month one. One of the selectable boltons is for unlimited web/data. Check the link out.

which as a "retention deal for a valued customer" is still pretty poor when for only £5 more at vodafone you'll get 1200minutes,ultd texts, ultd data (fup 500mb?) AND ultd landlines over 18mths,oh and that's with the phone for free...what would an extra £5 at o2 get you?not that much I'll guarantee..it seems o2 think they have their customers over a barrel at the moment due to this phones popularity which will no doubt see them losing quite a few punters in the short term! Why they didn't just put it on the same tariff as the Palm Pre is beyond me and is the deal I would/intend to snap up as soon as I can.

Yes, but I'd rather pay a little bit extra to avoid Vodafone as I think they're an awful network.
As for the deal you mention, as I never go over my 600 minutes anyway, the extras you speak of mean little to me even if they do only cost £5 more. 1000 texts is effectively unlimited to the vast majority of people and O2's unlimited web deal is better for reasons I pointed out above and that is something I use a lot.
No, I'll stick to O2 thanks and I suggest you do the same.

Its alot easier to get a better deal if you are already with your provider and go for an upgrade. At the moment im with orange and they have absolutely nothing worth getting right now (except the iphone 3gs lol) which means I have to goto a new network
I think everyone you talk to will give you different information. For example in the O2 shop I was told the data bolt on was upto 500MB but in the terms and conditions on the website it says unlimited. In the vodafone store and on the phone I have been told that if you go over your 500MB FUP then you will be contacted and that you will definitely not be charged extra for going over the limit. I know that with the O2 bolt on you arent allowed to used your phone as a modem or for video/audio streaming unless you pay extra which is why they have taken youtube off their roms and is pretty stupid really.
You are right that you can get a free bolt on with O2 but with only 500 texts available instore (I think its doubled to 1000 online) its still not enough for me in business use and I would need that bolt on to upgrade to unlimited texts. That of course means I need to pay extra for the data bolt on
Also with vodafone giving unlimited landline calls it means I can do most of my business calls for free and leave my included minutes for family and friends
I know everyone has their prefered network but for everything they are including and the much cheaper tarif I think my only option is vodafone I just hope the stock comes in on the 11th after putting it back 2 times . When I rang htc yesterday they said the delay was because they are putting extra software on for vodafone so im assuming thats the 360 software.
I fully intend to its just a matter of getting the right deal (although I could say any deal at the moment with o2!) I've never tried voda myself but as I get through over 2000mins/mth on o2 (ultd o2's and got all my buddies using them too)straying isn't a very attractive option to me and as for texts, dont use them at all (think my avg over the last mth was 2!)

Here in Belgium, you have to pay 20€ for a 85 minute plan (no free sms) + 20€/Month for 200Mb data (or 25€ for 500Mb)
If you want unlimited voice, unlimited sms, but no data, it'll cost you 89€
Also note that you have to buy the phone full price (paid 570€ for the HD2), there are no offers combining a phone and a plan.
I don't think there are many countries where the phone and internet plans (don't get me started on those ) are that expensive

Indeed. I don't think the HD2 is available to new customers on O2 yet, it certainly isn't listed as being available on their website. Which is ridiculous considering I have had it for over two weeks.

My O2 branded HD2 has/had Youtube on it, although they had removed the Wi-Fi router. However, I have just used a goldcard to upgrade my firmware to 1.48 which has effectively turned it into a sim-free model and put the wi-fi router option back. As for O2 not allowing tethering, I do it anyway the same way I used to on my iPhone. Providing you don't take the p**s and download 1gb+ a month they have no way of determining the difference between you browsing on the phone and browsing on your laptop through it.

I'm glad you mentioned that actually..my first "chats" with o2 to get this on a business account led me to inquire about the cost of 3gb data allowance..I was quite prepared to stump up £15/mth so I could ditch the dongle from 3 that I use only to be told that 3gb of data would cost me £405/mth,yes,thats right £405.00 a month! so what if all the sharers on the account get to share it,its still £405 and there's only me on the contract! and to cap it all the woman in question wanted me to pay towards the phone as well!!!
Got a few days ago a update from a friend that works at a vodafone store, just after I got mine they were all called from the vodafone warehouse to HTC because they wanted to fix first some (in my eyes minor) bugs like the pink camera problem...
just like we were told o2 did then...

[Q] Buymobilephones.net

Has anyone received their handset through Buymobilephones.net yet?
I placed my order 3 weeks ago on a £25 T-Mobile tarrif and just keep receiving Stock Expected Soon e-mails.
I phoned them today as my O2 PACnumber expires soon and they told me that they were not expecting stock for a few weeks as T-mobile had pulled the phone for software issues. This is strange as I went to my local T-mobile shop at the weekend and they had 2 in stock which they were keen to sell me (well one of them at least) but I wasn't willing to pay the additional £10 per month or the £150 phone cost to keep the £25 contract.
So what's going on?
Buymobilephones.net defined a few weeks for me in case I needed any help in that regard as 4-6 weeks - that's a lifetime.
I think it might be time to cancel your order and buy elsewhere.
Judging by comments here on XDA and elsewhere, the vast majority of UK users experienced no more than a few days of waiting for their Omnia 7s, a week in some cases, but very rarely more than that.
3 kept me waiting for ten days before I cancelled my order with them and went with T-Mobile; my own experience with T-Mo was that the handset was out of stock when I ordered, but 24 hours later I was told that the handset was back in stock, and the morning after that, I received my handset, and that was ten days ago.
It's also worth noting that T-Mobile hasn't installed any software on the phone, so the usual network customisation delays don't apply here; the only soft customisation they've applied is a T-Mo logo splash screen on start-up.
Seems to me that you can either accept buymobilephones.net's explanation and sit tight until they deliver (£25pm with a free handset is a pretty good deal after all, and you can always request a new PAC from O2 once you've got a delivery date); or you can get on to buymobilephones.net and ask them why they're keeping you waiting when T-Mobile have been shipping these things out to their customers for a while now.
By the way, looking at the small print of that deal you've got, it appears that you can either have the unlimited text booster that they've 'included' in the £25pm price, or you can swap that for a web ('unlimited internet') booster. If you want to have both the unlimited texts AND the web, you'll have to get an additional booster for an extra £5 a month, so the total cost will be £30pm, not £25pm. You WILL need a web booster though, you can't do without it on this phone - but as long as you're happy to live with web but without the unlimited texts (you'll still get 500 texts included), you can keep the price down to £25pm.
If you need BOTH web and unlimited texts, maybe you can find an alternative deal elsewhere with a free handset for £30pm?
Right - you prompted me to act.
I phoned T-mobile and asked if they could improve their £35 per month Tarrif - they agreed to reduce it to £30 per month (600mins, 500texts, unlimited internet +an additional booster). Then I agreed and proceeded with the order and informed them that I was an existing customer - so they agreed to reduce it further. In the end I had to pay £35 for the handset but I received the above tarrif for £25. And better than that - my phone will arrive tomorrow.
Big fat smiley face.
Just hope the phone is good now.

That's an excellent deal.
I noticed today that the 10 day delivery had gone from the T-Mobile website so I rang them up to check and stock was back in but the best they could do for me was 30 pounds, the phone free, 3gb but at 2 years
I am never ever going to be tied into a 2 year contract, I hate having to sign up for 18 months as that is too long really. So I will have to wait until buymobilephones get them in stock as at least I can get 18 months at 25 pounds with the phone costing 10 pounds.
A plus for you is that you get the 3gb and high speed without having to phone the sales reps until one switches you over - they shouldn't really as its only for T-Mobile sales and not resellers.
Have fun tomorrow with your new phone.

I was in the exact same boat. Decided to call Orange (who I'm currently with) and quoted my "friend's" (your) t-mobile deal.
I managed to get 600mins, unlimited texts, internet, 3 extra magic numbers (I'm now on 6) and orange wednesdays ofcourse for £22.50 a month with the phone costing £15! Thanks "friend"!
I have a feeling that I may be on the rubbish 500mb internet but she didn't day. If I am then I will moan and see if I can get it to 1gb.
Phone arrives tomorrow. Can't wait. And buymobilephones.net, I want my 3 weeks of missed WP7 awesomeness back!
Think of it this way, by waiting 3 weeks you have saved money each month over the next 2 years
And anyone waiting on buymobilephones they have said the T-Mobile Omnia 7 is in Monday with enough stock to clear all back orders.
Looks like buymobilephones are expecting them from Tmobile on monday . Can't wait to play with mine. Check out their twitter feed!
Edit: As posted above by root beer.
Does anyone know if Tmobile know that the phone has been bought from a 3rd party reseller? I'm wondering because I want to try and get moved onto the 3gb fup. If I pretend I bought direct they might be more cooperative.

Well, surely they'll know that you didn't buy it from them, as there will be no record of the transaction. A third party reseller is a shop, don't forget. Buying from shops is normal.
Yes but the contract is with T mobile regardless of where I bought it from. I will be paying them directly for my contract. Its just I will only get the 1gb fup for buying from 3rd party.
Just called Orange and got the data increased to 1GB from 500MB free of charge with no hassle. If anyone here is on Orange and is a returning customer it should be no problem as you can't really expect to fully utilise this operating system with 500MB and I think the highest they have on their online plans is 750MB. Just be polite to the person on the phone.
i asked at upgrades and they said they couldn't do that for me but gave me a dongle for mobile internet for 500MB instead??
i guess i won't need the mobile wifi hotspot feature now but i think i still would have prefered 1GB or more

Odd. When I phoned them, they said they couldn't price-match. Maybe it's cause I'm not on orange at the moment.
Had pre-ordered the HTC Mozart, but it's still out of stock on orange. Might see if I can swap it for the Omnia 7 on T-mobile, seeing as it's in stock.
Well after 4 days using my new toy and after all that messing with BMP.net I have phoned T-Mobile to arrange for it to be shipped back to them. I am not happy - primarily with WP7. I hope it will improve given a few updates but having used various incarnations of WM6 I am not hugely confident.
So my phone is going back and I have ordered an HTC Desire HD to replace it - I love my Desire so I am sure the Desire HD will be fantastic. I will miss the AMOLED screen most of all - I do so like black to be black.
Do not buy from these people if you want proper internet!
I just got mine from them, and it's brilliant. Got a T-mobile 18 month contract with 600 min and 500 text and unlimited internet for £30 and free phone! Also, 5 month rental is half price! I just couldn't find a better deal than this!

Care to elaborate?
I wouldn't order from anyone else.
Ordered an Omnia 7 on H3G at 2.30pm and received the phone at 1pm the following day. Superb, quick service.
I really like WP7. The interface is clean and very quick. Internet, e-mails, text etc are all lightning fast.
I can't understand all those people who get a WP7 based phone, and then complain it doesn't do this or that. If you want a customizeable phone, go with Android or WM6.5.
WP7 devices are brilliant IMHO. At the end of the day it is a PHONE. If you want all the other bells and whistles.... Get a laptop!!!
