hero ? or not ? - Hero, G2 Touch General

evening
any body know a way to get my sounds ( mp3 files ) as notifercations ,
i would like to have my own text and email sounds !
i have tried by downlading a file explora program from the market but alas that dont work either
need help or ideas

create a folder called "notifications" in the root of your sd card, and place all the mp3's or wav in there and it should display when you select a sound in the notification settings.

thatnks for that ...
in the mean time i also found an app called tone picker that seems to work quite well

No problem mate.
Does that let you choose different tones for lets say both email and sms,
cause right now you I can only choose one for both.

i thought so at first but now it dont seem to ? i can have differnt tones for each email account but not a differnt one for sms ....
perhaps a folder is the way to go

If you go in to mail messages and settings and choose a notification there and do the same for sms they end up different. The personalise setting for notifications seems to change both together. Let me know if it works for you too or if its a gmail / sms only solution

The Hero has a 'default notification' sound. You can set this to whatever you want by putting your sound file in a /notifications folder on the SD. This sound file is the one used when you receive an email in the HTC email app, and also when you connect/disconnect USB etc...
You can change your SMS sound file by going into settings in the Messages app. You can change your Gmail email sound file by going into settings in the Google mail app. But currently you cannot have a custom sound file for the HTC email app without also having that sound file as the 'default notification' ie. your Hero will play the same sound when you get an email as it does when it dis/connects to USB. I find that a bit annoying but I'm sure it will be fixed in an update.

Text Message Notification sounds

I have an HTC Touch from Bell Mobility and there is one thing that I have as of yet been unable to do with it. I would really like to be able to choose my own personal sound for when I am receiving text messages but there appears to be no way to actually do this.
Is there possibly a program that would allow this or a place on the HTC where I could place the sounds I want for when I receive texts so that it will show up in the default settings program for setting up the notification sounds?
Please help

Also dont forget to convert the sound to .WAV format and copy it into the Windows folder
I have done that but it does not allow me to choose any sounds that I have downloaded like as an example I cannot set it to have the Mail mofo from eurotrip for whenever I get a new text message. it will only allow me to choose from the sounds that it came with.

Are you saying that the drop down list only shows one sound?
how do i convert to Wav format? i also have a problem with text sounds i can only seem to use the sounds that come stock for continuous notifications, when i try to add my own it plays it once or twice (for a couple text) but after tht when i receive new text ther is no sound...is it because they are mp3's does tht even matter? they are only like 2seconds long each...any help would be appreciated
I am just saying that there is only the stock sounds and that I am unable to add any extra sounds to it that I want to have as my sound for when I get text messages.
I'd suggest using Audacity to convert your sound into .wav file. Once you've done that, put the file in \Windows and it should appear in the drop down menu on your "Sounds and Notifications" page. It really isn't that complicated - the only reason I can think it isn't working for you is because you either have the file in the wrong format or you haven't put it into the \Windows folder.
Put your .WAV files in My device -> Application data ét voila, they appear in the list!
well first off it dont have to be in WAV format, MP3 will be fine
butyou cant use an entire song, because there is no wasy to stop it.... meaning no matter how many buttons u press yer gonna have to hear the entire song before the ring ends....\
now imagine, I get an average of 2000 txtx a month, could you imagine heariung the same song 2000 times>???
sometimes 20-30 times in a row???
anyways soooooo where u need to put the rings for text messaging is directly in yur windows folder on yer device....
here is my favorite i made from Euro Trip - Mail Mother F**Ker

Ringtone notification (mail or ect..) on Tmo-Wing

I've searched all over this forum (sorry if I missed it or something) but is there a way to get my own custom ringtone for whenever I receive mail or a voicemail. I already have custom ringtones for my phone itself... but I can't seem to be able to get anything no matter how I try to show up in my "notification sounds" section on my wing. Any help would be appreciated.
I happen to hate the selection of tones for my Voicemail and SMS and would like to make my own.
I need answer of this question
Just put the ringtone you want in the Windows directory and it'll show up in the notification sounds list.

not sd in main memory as a quick answer

Personal tones for text messages.

OK, i have the HTC Tilt 2, and its really annoying that i cant set up a personal tone for my text messages, can only use the ones that come with phone. I've tried pasting the tones into the correct folder, and still no go. And i dont even care if i can set them personal for different people, that doesnt matter i just want a custom tone for incoming text messages in general.
If anyone has a freeware app for this or an app in general that can do this please let me know i would greatly appreciate it.

I agree with the above idea. One added note, if you make a folder called "Sounds" on your storage card, the Rom should recognize it in your ringtones folder. It does on mine.
Actually The easiest way to do it is just paste the custom ringtone in your windows folder with all the rest of the ringtones and as soon as you go to notifications it will recognize it right away... dont put it in any folder just put the file directly in the folder... Fool-proof
I put my text message sound in Device>Application Data>Sounds. When you put it in the Windows file, it only shows up for a ringtone, not other notifications.
tried that
I tried all of that... I ended up just getting fed up with trying that, So i paid for the Ringo app, does all of it, custom ring tones, message tones, and custom for any contact you want to add
What I want is a way to have specific sounds for different people texting.... ie.. Text from person A comes in and notification A plays..... text from person B comes in and notification B plays.
Now THAT would be handy!

Yeah, my Motorola SLVR used to do that. I would set a ringtone for someone and it would play if they were calling or texting.
But then it got confusing, because I didn't know if I needed to hurry up and answer the phone or not. So sometimes I would run to the phone only to find out it was a text. I was a lot skinnier back then.
Ringo
I paid for the ringo app 9.99, and you can create custom contacts separate sounds for both text msg and calling, but if you pull ringtones off your sd card, it cuts them off after a certain time out. which doesnt bother me that much. But I do now have custom tones for all my important contacts, for both calls and texts, and you can use any mp3, regardless if it is a shortened ringtone version or a whole song.
personal ringtones go in the "Ringtones" folder.
All other personalized sounds (text, missed call, etc) go in the Windows folder. Just copy and paste em in there
As already suggested I put my personal tones in the Windows folder directly, and they all show up and are available for selection in the 'sounds and notifications' section, in fact I altered my 'incoming email' one today.
What I believe he is asking for needs a third party app. To have an individual sms tone for each contact you will need something like Ringo. What everyone else is suggesting is a way to add custom tones in general..

This is true, MP3/WAV go into the ringtones folder in my documents...
NOW for alerts and alarms they need to be a wav or wma file and you place them directly into the windows directory. I usually add a zz to the beginning of the file name so all the alarms/alerts I make are always at the bottom of the list and easier to find...

i have always just put the files directly in the windows folder (only the ones for txt) and it has always worked fine for me
it seems that this was well covered but i had this same prob. i ended up downloading a program called Tonality that i was able 2 change just about any sound on my phone 4 free....even call waiting. i tried to place the link but since im a new user i was unable 2 do so. jus type Tonality in & you'll find the link 4 it over at freewarepocketpc. hope that works 4u.
best way to do it for alerts and ring tones is put them in the root of your sd card, no folders or anything just in the root. This way does not eat up your phones mem as well.

[Q] Appointment alert

A few months ago I moved from Windows Mobile 6.5 to Android. A feature I miss a bunch is the ability to have my scheduled tasks alert me. Using Android the task alert is the text message alert. I have been unable to find a way to make my tasks have a separate alert. Does anyone know of a way to do this? Thanks!
Are you referring to the notification ringtones? because you can change that through the settings in the calander app to make it something different than the default.

yes that is what I am referring to... however if I change the notification ring tone it changes the text message ring tone.
Tasks
I have all my schedules for work in my phone set up in my calander, since i also came from a Windows phone (Q9C) i was using outlook for all my apts. THere is a exchange program u can use thru google that will link the 2 and bring all your tasks into your new calander on your phone. U can then set each event to alert u a set time before, just like in WINM0b. I set mine up to alert me 1 hour before i work and if the phone is on silent, theres a icon on top left screen telling me theres a event. u can also set up sounds. I hope this helps, and hope the info helps u. I am running Dk28 Froyo and there are some differences, so if some of this makes no sense, thats prob the reason. the program thru google is google calander. seach for it, it works

When you change it through the calendar app, it only effects notifications from that app, the default notification ringtone will remain the same. Also, you can specify a specific notification ringtone through the messaging app, and gmail as well, and have them all be something different than the default notification ringtone that is set through the main settings->sound menu.
Open up the calendar app, hit the menu button, select settings, then change the ringtone for that app.
All my appointments are through google calender. I am running Froyo (Bonsai MOD). The one hour thing is what I have as well... the issue I am having is my text msg alert seems like it has to be the same as the task alert. I liked having my task alert long(like a ring tone) and I like having a short text msg alert.

You can also DL tone picker from the market. It will give you a few more selections when trying to change notification tones, including the use of music found on your SD card. Just a lil FYI if you're not too big on system tones only.

Thanks for the heads up however "Select music" is installed by default and will let you do the music from your SD card thing(all my ring tones are there)
You can also just create a directory on your sd card and place your audio files there. On your sd card, create a directory with folders as such
sdcard
|-media
--|-audio
----|-alarms
------|-random.mp3
------|-random.ogg
----|-notifications
------|-another.mp3
------|-another.aac
----|-ringtones
------|-you_get_the_picture.mp3
------|-insert_audio_file_here.wav

Unable to replace "ding" sound from FB Messenger app on Samsung S7 Edge

I apologize if this is not the correct forum/thread to post this . . .
I am trying to change the "ding" sound that FB Messenger plays everything a new message arrives but I haven't had any success. I have changed both the Notification Sound and Ringtone sound but it seems that these sounds are separate from where the "ding" notification from and I can't find the location where to change it. The smartphone is not rooted. I appreciate any assistance you can provide.
It's in the "Notifications & Sounds" settings under in the Messenger app.
The default notification sound is called "Messenger" -- change it to whatever you want.
This post (#3) and post #4 are Identical. as I accidentally posted it twice and am unable to delete this post. Please refer to post #4.

Got it! Thank you. I have downloaded and transferred couple of sounds file onto the Notification folder of the smartphone and have been able to select them as an option for other apps (facebook, instagram, etc.) but for some reason I don't see those as an option with FB Messenger. I tried placing it in other folders but had no luck. Is it a specific folder where I should place the file in order to see it as an option for FB Messenger?

I had the same problem. You have them in the right spot, but you need to give Messenger permission to access them.
I have a somewhat related question.. when a notification comes from, let's say, an sms app and I have my phone set to notify me every minute of unread notification, how do I make the sound of repeat notification the same as the the original notification of whatever notified me on the first place (in this case sms app)?

I'm not sure if this is related at all but either way, in order for these experts to help you, I think you need to be a bit more specific (at least for me to try to help ) such as what is the name of this sms app and an example of what you're trying to do exactly.

Okay so I have an SMS application called go SMS pro and I have a ring tone set for it through go SMS pro app. when I receive a text message that ring tone rings but when the notification keeps repeating the sound at this point is different , it's the default in the system instead of the one I set in the app. I hope that's a little bit more clear . I used to be able to set the ring tone for repeat notifications directly in the app but that was an older versions now I have to set it through my phone settings and that sound is different than the one set in go SMS pro. also the repeat notification sound that is set in my phone settings sounds for everything that gets repeated doesn't matter of the application. so I have different ring tones set for different applications but when that notification gets repeated it all defaults to just one ring tone stead of the ones I set for each application
