iolite discontinued? - Touch Cruise 2 General

I´ve received the information that this model was discontinued. Can anyone confirm this?
EDITED
Just received answer from HTC, it was a rumour. Here´s their answer:
"No, it is not discontinued. it was only released less than 6 months ago, and all of our handsets 'live' for at least one year. Whoever told you that it had been discontinued was incorrect. best regards, HTC Europe Support"

depends on what "they" mean by discontinued.
if that means there will be no support, no firmware updates and other upgrades, then we have a problem.
if it means that there will not follow an "Iolite II", then I don't care.

I believe it means that the phone is no longer fabricated by HTC...

mummuapsu: Source of this information? Because to me, it looks like "bad joke". Anyway, if it will be HardSPL for Iolite, I don't care about no future updates.

the source: in some online store sites the product appear as discontinued.
+ in http://www.htc.com/pt/ (the portuguese HTC site), the iolite no longer appears...
I'm not trying to create a new fake rumour, just searching for some info on this...

It's still there:

At first, I don't trust to online stores and at second, on that portuguese site, Iolite is just on the front page in left bottom corner . However, you must look on europe version of HTC pages, because on lot of regional ones new products appears really late.

I've confirmed it with HTC and... it's a rumour

Qualcomm Chips Banned from the US

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/070608/qualcomm_broadcom.html?.v=2
Woe to HTC in the US? Not a huge market for HTC, I suppose, but growing. I got my Trinity on Ebay, anyway
According to the independent today, the ban only applies to handsets that havent been released yet so any current handsets aren't affected.
Why Qualcomm only??
What makes the US like to ban them?
Is that Qualcomm did something wrong?

Did you read the linked article?
The question I have is.. how can you ban Qualcomm in the US..but have a major sports stadium called Qualcomm Stadium... lol
i wonder if this has to do with the current availability of the Trinity? I killed mine this weekend and went through 7 online sites before I found one. all of the vendors without stock said they were waiting for stock to clear customs. just a coincidence???
HTC states it wont use the OS of a well known US Software firm (Microsoft Windows Mobile) in the future and just a week later very important phones are banned from the US market.... funny.... free markets, right?

I don't think HTC said that they will not release a WM device in the future. I recall reading it and remembered that HTC said that they will release a mobile device using another OS.

I beieve the first HTC device on the market under the brand name was Wallaby, out in Apr 2002, followed by Canary Oct 2002. The company was founded in 1997, but provided outsourcing ODM services only, then it became self-branding manufacturer with Dopod as subsidiary and support for operator-branded products and OEM.

Although it is still not the updating time, at least we will find out when we can get the officail hero 2.1 rom.

in short, in march the 2.1 update and a pink version of the hero will be coming Feb. 15
also some free widgets from HTC via Android Market like Parkingtimer, Translator and ringtone-widget.
Ran it through google translate and didn't get far, a lot of the page is in flash
What does it say exactly?
What does it say??????????
yeah sure.
Probably just old news anyway

Interesting
I've got a feeling it will only be out in April. i think this because HTC are releasing new handsets at the end of march?.. so i think they will only release 2.1 for hero after they are out to stop people taking the cheap way out and just buying a hero with the new software rather than the new handsets maybe??
It is saying that HTC will most probably revealed when Hero can upgrade to And 2.1.
However, they are still unsure whether to let HTC Magic and Tattoo To get the same upgrade.
Rest are mostly users of the 2 not confirmed models users grumbling.

so if they update the old magic.. i think we will get an update for us hero to...
but.. hey..
they really want old phones with new software? 2.1 ?
i dont think so..
Probably going to be announced in MWC
Rogers Canada have already said that magic users will be getting a 2.1 upgrade. If they get it so will hero owners.
The old donkey and carrot analogy spring to mind as far as updates from HTC go.
I'll believe it when I'm installing it on my phone

hehe Nexus One is a HTC device so "never buying HTC devices again" but "Buying Nexus One" is kinda stupid
Although I must say, I would prefer Nexus One over the Desire just because I know Google will "always" make sure it'll get new software updates and the Desire updates will be postponed just like the Hero ones due to business agreements and SenseUI issues and more...
I have been using Legends n Eris's ROMS ported onto Hero, so far.. But all that I want is a stable 2.1 ROM from HTC.. Instead of releasing new phones like Legend (Which is just a metal upgrade for HTC Hero + 1GHz proc) they should have concentrated on releasing update for Hero which has a large customer base. And I even read somewhere that Both Sprint Hero n GSM Hero have won awards in their respective categories.. This aint happening..

This isn't a press release - it's rumour and supposition, the same as all the rumour threads on this site.
It may well be that the update doesn't come until April, but this poorly written article isn't an official HTC missive and therefore should be treated as hearsay at best and a fabrication at worst.

Latest reply from HTC Customer Care regarding 2.1 Update for HTC Hero
New Response From [ Anthony (UK - Ireland Support (Tech)) ]
Dear Customer,
We understand that now that a phone running Android OS 2.1 is available that you are excited to get an update for your Hero. We are still hard at work building Sense for this new version but we expect to have the upgrade finished and ready to go soon. Please understand that it takes time to customize any Android version to ensure you have the intuitive experience Sense provides, and we hope you can be patient for just a little while longer.

Inquiry Description Hi, I have been waiting for Android 2.1 Update for my HTC Hero from last 3 months. All that I have got is news of update being getting postponed. Recent one told me that the update is coming in "LATE APRIL". :-( Harsha S
Issue Date & Time
2010/03/17 10:05
I think that HTC should schedule two differents update for each android device, one with clean android OS and optimized drivers focused on specific hardware, and one with optimized senseUI and others HTC customizations... in that case, it could follow OS upgrade very fast and satisfy who want to be updated with OS, and then take all required time to optimize and develop custom UI...
anyway... it is exciting to test and try custom 2.1 roms and the developers here at xda are doing a great work!
but it is also frustrating to wait for HTC official update!
Yeah getting access to a new kernal would be nice
Is this update so important???
We can flash HERO with a good working port rom and we have 2.1
I do not see the problem haha

Sure we have some nice 2.1 roms at the moment but they are inherently buggy with things that will definitely be fixed when we can lay our hands on an official rom things like battery life and 3d graphics.

I've seen that too! I've seen all the threads, and not one of them has an "official" date in it.
The simple fact of the matter is that HTC customer care do not have a clue. Take anything you read as coming from them with a large pinch of salt.
Regardless, this doesn't change the fact that the "press release" you linked to is clearly not an official HTC statement.
Regards,
dave
What!?
Ok so this has pi**ed me off. I have been waiting for the 2.1 official update to be released now for a LONG time - the issue really is that it was "meant" to come around about now (mid March). It's the fact that it's seeming been pushed back and now artificially put on hold because they don't want to affect the freaking Leg-end. I'd much rather they just announced the update wil be available on a specific date - 23rd July for e.g. and then if it's early its a bonus. They must be aware/accept that Android users are going to be more tech-savvy than most and will therefore not appreciate being jerked around and left in the lurch while users of other Android handsets have 2.1 already and have for a while now = no real technical reason for the delay as far as I'm concerned.
Having said all the above - what do HTC care? If someone from HTC reads these forums then the above is my 2 cents and I think they would create a lot of GOODwill instead of resentment if they were more transparent with their customers. I'm seriously doubting whether to buy HTC or HTC made again because I *like* to be up-to-date with functionalities etc. A platform like Android was *made* to be upgradeable and improved upon and this is a clear case of HTC's beuracracy getting in the way of their customer service. They don't have to do jack sh*t for their customers though because of course once you've bought a phone you're usually locked in - but they sure as hell could learn a thing or two about engendering customer appreciation and loyalty.
So there will be people out there who think "What's the problem?! Your phone runs fine!" Well if you're asking that question then you're probably not reading this forum in the first place because then why would you have any interest in phone OS development and all the joys it brings.
I hope this report is wrong. I hope the ROM comes very soon because I guarantee HTC (not that they care) that delaying it much longer will do quite a lot to put people off their SenseUI phones and HTC in general. Apple is due to release 4.0 soon and Microsoft is about to unleash Winmo7 series so it's not like there's a lack of competition.
You all know what i MEAN - even if i didn't say it right!
I haven't yet found a single 2.1 rom that is stable enough to use daily and that includes my respect and reverence for the talent and hard work that goes into making these cooked roms.
Ola!

Unless they need to make some changes for the hero that we haven't considered?
Can't think what though
What's wrong with 1.5?
Why is everyone so desperate to get 2.1 on their Hero. The 1.5 ROM works very well for me anyway and I don't have any battery or any other problems.
I've tried all the various 2.1 ROMs on this board and while they are very well done I haven't found any to have the battery life of 1.5 so have always reverted back to the shipped ROM.
Now if 1.5 was full of bugs then I could understand all the fuss. As it's not - I can't.
Don't get me wrong I shall upgrade to 2.1 as soon as it's released I just can't understand the rush.
Is there some "must have" facility that I'm missing on the 2.1 ROM?

Samsung will not be announcing Froyo for US devices via their Samsung UK press office.
i9000 is the only galaxy s in the uk, no? which would makes sense that it would be early nov for them in the uk, then all operators (everywhere) by end of nov.
edit: actually reading the press release makes it seem more dubious that they would mean all operators internationally
I'm with the OP.
The Android 2.2 software is being fully tested with UK operators and the upgrade will be available in the UK from early November. We expect all operator versions of the software to be fully tested and downloadable by the end of November.
Even if you didnt know anything about the topic, you can easily understand operators=carriers and by them specifying UK Operators I think that pretty much makes it easy to understand. Why hate anyway, for those waiting for OTA and Source code it's better news than nothing.

Yeah. Once you actually read the release (doesn't sound like Engadget did) it seems kinda clear.
Its about perspective.. If Samsung issued a press release out of Korea or their US headquarters that said "all operators" would have the update by X date, then it would cover the US. But when Samsung UK issues that statement.. There's no reason to think it would apply to America.
There have been many misleading posts where naive readers read announcements about the "galaxy S" in Europe and wrongly apply that to the U.S. variants. This is another unfortunate example.
Engadget, reinforcing my low expectations of its shoddy journalism, also fell for the same error today. Their story says "presumably including the Vibrant, Captivate, Epic 4G, and Fascinate) by the end of November." Presumably? What a joke. All they have to do is call Samsung for confirmation.
The Engadget writer, Chris Ziegler, is particularly brain-dead. He authored several "articles" about the GPS problems on the Galaxy S phones and never got anything right.

Hopefully some clarification comes at minimum to put this thread to rest. When Google and Apple announce devices on US soil, they also usually give the release dates for all the Int'l carriers too. So why is this different. I guess we'll find out. Either way, its a good thing.

Google and Apple are US companies, so when they make an announcement in the US, it's from "headquarters." But if they were going to announce a product intended for Japan, for instance, they wouldn't do it in the UK.
That's why Samsung (Korea) making an announcement in the UK regarding US products makes no sense.
It will get here when it gets here. We don't need 50 threads about it. I'm more inclined to believe the UK statement is a UK statement. When it comes out of T-Mobile then I'll believe the timeframe.
Blahh,blahh,blahh......and more blahh blahh blahhhhhhh......

No, it's not just you.
They all think they have the definitive info and shout it as loud as they can and have all been wrong every time, so far.
It's like they trying to be important, rather than just passing along information.
If the OP made the title, "Here's a 2.2 Article, what does this mean?" this OP wouldn't look so bad, but that wouldn't give him the feeling of being as important.
Just flash eugene's new froyo rom if you're so desperate It works great with the exception of minor issues and you'll be able to finally download that shiny new Gmail app and use the wonderful Voice Commands and you're good to go.
BTW, Samsung's galaxy S support site for the U.S. on Twitter is still saying there is no ETA for Froyo on this side of the pond.

That Twitter site is dedicated to Galaxy S support in the United States, which is what I meant by "this side of the pond." (The Samsung USA rep was responding to a question about Froyo here on Vibrant, and confirmed in the previous tweet that it was rolling out overseas.)
If Samsung dangles another carrot in front of me about Froyo on my Vibrant, I'm going to set their Korean building on fire.
I believe they have my Froyo!
