Mine seems to be okay. My completely subjective opinion is that it's not quite as good as my old Motorola Q9h Global, but it is about as good as my Nokia E71-2.
Considering that I live in zone 1 of one of the worlds major capitals the signal is crap ! ... in terms of reception DEFINITELY the worse phone I ever had (this is Vodafone / London)

I have no problem whatsoever with signal reception anywhere in the city, almost alway full bar.
in buildings (basement, any floor upwards) i got either 2 bars or 3 bars AND HSDPA.
i live in Jakarta, Indonesia btw...
Well.. I'm from Telcel Mexico, and I've been testing several radios (stock, xperia's 1.10.25. I dont remember) and the latest from the blackstone.. I've something to say... My Motorola MPx220 has better reception... even my girlfriends LG's Shine has reception in some places I dont
I'm hopping that Sony Ericcson can solve this.. (believe me.. it's really a shame that my girlfriend makes fun of my SUPER POWERFUL phone's crap reception..)
The signal on my X1i is fine, although i can see that the bars fluctuate a lot depending on the location i have never had any dropped calls. I assume that the measurement system on the X1i is far more accurate than i.e. a Nokia where it shows always a full signal until you dial a call and then it drops down a few bars to its actual reading.
I would say the signal is as strong as with the Nokia N95 and the SE w900i before. I cannot complain.
Don't mind your X1.. blame your operator for the signal!
2008 I had 4 phones all using Vodafone UK.... W960i, W880i, W890i and the X1, going round the same places the signal strength is on par with the w960i for me and better than the w880i and w890i... So that is comparing against 3 other Sony phones....
In the Central US with T-Mobile reception is just fine. = to my w850i
For me the X1 works much better than Tytn and Kaiser. I know than Tele2 (Swedish operator) have done som uppgrading. 2G / 3G switching works great now. Before the upgrade it was bad.
Had my x1 a week, currently it's getting the same if not slightly better signal than other HTC/SE phones in our house. Our town has poor reception in most areas but my x1 has been no different from other phones so far.
Well i know there were concerns about using T-mobile UK with the X1 but i've not really had any problems. I used to have the w580i and i'd say that was worse than the xperia. My house isn't particulary great for signal and i have two/three bars. So yeah...no issue here!

I think we should separate X1i and X1a pole. Look at my reception on X1a with AT&T 3G. I paid $30 for internet

Location: My home address
Operator: O2
Phone: HTC Hermes = connects to HSDPA in every room - never loose signal
Phone: HTC Polaris = connects to HSDPA in every room - never loose signal
Phone: Xperia = Connects to GPRS in most rooms, very occassionaly HSDPA - looses signal regularly
I have tried 3 Xperias all with the same result.

When the Xperia is close to a base-station/transmitter there are no signal problems. As soon as the environment gets slightly tricky, it can't cope, unlike my older HTC phones as demonstrated above.
At work, I don't have a problem with any of my phones including the Xperia; I have a base-station on the roof of my office building

I have both X1a & X1i
My reception on X1a with TIGO 3.5G 850MHz is always HSDPA FULL BARS (urban)
I pay half that for 3,600 kbps internet
Still wanna blame the Xperia ??

I ve been with vodafone for the past years at the same address and all other phones get better signal ... however, the main problem is that the Xperia keeps dropping the signal for no reason. to give an exampe ..
Phone lies on my desk with 2 bars reception... when I reach for the phone to write a message or make a phone call, chances are that just by picking it up, e.g. moving it for a couple of inches, the phone will drop the signal .. then I ll have to wait for a minute till it picks it up again - as soon as it does it is back up to 2 bars and I can start making the phone call.
this is however only in areas where the signal is generally weaker e.g. where u would normally not get more than 2 bars anyway (like where I live - although I get full reception on my nokias with the same sim card).
If you are somewhere with good reception then there is no problem

I switched over from Verizon and I have had my EVO since the 4th of June. I like the phone, however I get very poor reception. At my house inside, I get 1 bar, sometimes it will be no bars or 2 bars. I used to get excellent reception in my house with Verizon (usually full bars). My wife is on T-Mobile and even she gets 3-4 bars (out of 5 bars) and never has dropped calls. I always get dropped calls.
I used to be able to ride in the elevator in my office and talk on the phone. Quality would drop and i would lose bars (down to 1 or 2) but I would almost never actually drop a call (this is on Verizon). Today, in two elevator rides on the phone, they both dropped.
Now my question is.... is this Sprint or is it the phone?
If it's the phone are there certain ROMs I should try that improve the reception?

You should try to do the little hack to get on verizon towers without being classified as roaming. Check it out, if its sprint then you will see once you try it.

Different radios might work. For the last 4 years I've been an AT&T customer. I understand that CDMA apparently isn't as good at signal building penetration compared to GSM, so that might be a limitation.
However, both Verizon and Sprint utilize CDMA, so I find it odd that someone with Verizon could have a better signal than Sprint, since I'm also told that (assuming your phone has the "roaming towers" option or whatever it's called enabled, and it is by default, at least on my phone) they use the same towers, so why on earth would there be a disparity?
I'm guessing it's the EVO, or something to do with its casing, because some places I get excellent reception indoors, and others, like Sam's Club, is a complete dead zone except for the front third of the store closest to the exit.
That being said, my wifi reception (or at least indicator) totally blows. I hope a firmware update address that and the 30 fps cap, as well as reception (if it's the phone).

It worked for me. From having no bars went to full at home because of Sprint coverage. And the EVO does not have the option of roaming, just the automatic roaming and never worked for me.
About Verizon and Sprint they are both CDMA but they have their own towers. Is not the phone. And at Walmart almost every phone loose signal. I have friends w all carriers and they all get poor signal.

Obtain your MSL (aka Master Subsidy Lock / Password. SIX DIGIT NUMBER)
Dial ##775#, a password prompt should appear. Enter your MSL into this box->hit OK->tap on the "Update PRL" button. Make sure "All Folders" and "Type: prl files" are selected. You should see the downloaded PRL (00001.prl) on the list; Select the PRL->Press Menu->Commit.

try a different radio, or maybe its just the area u are in? on ATT, my friend has an iphone, and i had the fuze, and he always got signals where i didnt, so it could be the phone...
You can't go by bars on CDMA... You can have ZERO bars and still be able to make crystal clear calls and send and receive data on CDMA whereas on GSM you hit 3 bars and your calls start cutting out.
Anyway, I've noticed that the EVO is really crappy with data speeds - but voice quality it is bar none the highest quality cell phone I have ever used.
Well, if the Evo simply has poor reception the Verizon hack shouldn't make a difference.
I like you have poor service in my home, always have. I got an Airave to solve that problem, it works well so long as I also am connected to Wifi otherwise it tends to hop between 1 bar of 3G and full bars of 1xRTT.
I tried the Verizon PRL hack. The signal was a little stronger, inline with what my roommates on Verizon got, but it wouldn't connect to the Airave at all. Did seem to have a hard time maintaining a 3G connection. I wasn't losing the signal, it just seemed to drop the data connection, but I still had a voice connection. Because of that and the airave issue I switched back.
The funny thing is, the EVO has better signal reception than my TP2... it just has crappy data speeds.
really? i get amazing data speeds on 3g, also i found out today that wifi speeds and signals are being fixed via software update from HTC, just got an e-mail from there. something like 700 down and 700 or so up.

If it helps, everybody in NYC knows that Verizon is the best in signal. You can get signal with them where ATT and Sprint can't. ATT has the worst signal in the city of the 3 of them. So it might be the carrier. I don't know if this is true somewhere else.

It's Horrible!!!! hehe I've been having nightmares because of that. It was really slow on the sprint network, and the airave was getting my phone crazy changing between connections.

I have a simular issue, so I called sprint today and the tech found that the tower nearest me (about 1 mile away) was "out" so that was my problem so he generated a ticket to fix the tower. The funny thing is that he indicated that in general thier system can not tell them when a tower is out, customers generally call and indicate a service issue then they can remotely check the towers in question for issues . Man that is not the best way to check towers . Oh well the tower I need should be fixed in about 24 hours based on the tech I talked to.......he also said good thing I called Man they have a nutty system
Verizon's method of checking towers isn't much better if all they have is one guy walking around asking "can you hear me now?"

i've found it to be the opposite in my city. verizon is terrible and sprint is awesome. maybe in your area, sprint just isn't as good as verizon? don't think it's the evo.
This is easy to check.
Go to a different area and see if the signal gets better.
My own evo is better than my old TP2, much better reception (I don't roam at work, on the basement floor, whereas TP2 used to constantly) and 2-2.2 down / 0.6 up Mbps.

I just switched from a TP2 to the Evo and I found things to be quite the opposite. Constantly 1 - 2 bars less of service with the evo dropping to 'no service' where the TP2 at least had 1 or 2 bars. After many years with HTC products, Fuze, Tilt2 on ATT and the TP2 and EVO with Sprint I have found that its really hit or miss with their products. Some phones of even the same make and model are just better then others. The first Fuze I got had horrible horrible service. Went to the ATT store and they agreed, warranty replacement phone worked beautiful. Now with that said the EVO does seem to have consistently faster data speeds then the TP2 did. Between 600 - 900 with the TP2 and up wards of 1480 on a test I did yesterday with the evo. Still no where near the 2000 - 2500 the ATT network provided but they ticked me off with their two week tower outage in this area... what good is speed if the phone doesn't work?
I do not know why but i get extremely poor signal with my new vibrant and T-mobile at my house. Outside the house and inside it is averaging - 110 db. My work is 1.5 miles away and I get 4-5 bars and excellent signal and 3G. T-mobile store is 1 mile away and i get excellent service there... Even 4G is offered in my area.
I called tech support, first they told me i had an old sim card, so today I changed the sim, but that did not help. I called them again, all they did is take me off the system and add me back on, did a test call, i received the call and that was it. Am I stuck with poor service or it is the the vibrant that is too sensitive.

what rom are you running? What you're describing seems to be similar to what happened with the original vibrant radio.

The above comments are excellent. Check what radio you are running. Then, check your tower locations
I am on an Island and there are places that every carrier has problems covering here. Not sure why it is that way but, that is the way it is. T mobile is pretty good on a whole compared to ATT and the others.

I was running stock at first, and then I upgraded to JI6 as it supposedly improves the signal.. i seem to have had some improvement but still extremely poor service at or around my house. last night as a test, I called my work and left a voicemail. When I got to work, I saw a missed call, but no voicemail!
The scary part is reliability, not being able to rely on important calls/voicemails to my phone. I tried to use google voice at least the voicemails to be covered, but I found out that google voice is not reliable either, a couple of times already it tells 'Cannot leave a voicemail servers are busy" something like that.. It is insane, and I have 4G in my area!

I have not because I do not have another T-mobile phone. I used to be with AT&T for years and I never ever had a an issue with reception.

it could be that your place is under a sub-optimal coverage for TMO.
Without a second phone to try there is little you can do to confirm or deny it.

lol isn't obvious to you yet that AT&T network has wider coverage than T-Mobile? T-Mobile is still building out their 3G network, they still don't have the type of coverage AT&T have. I suggest you unlock you Vibrant and go back to AT&T if your not on a contract. Otherwise you will just have hope T-Mobile cares about coverage than SPEED.
I love T-Mobile but their coverage have me on the edge at times.

I unlocked the phone, but I can't go back to AT&T right, I will have to cancel the 2-year Tmobile contract and return the phone as well..

Well I guess you have some bad luck. Looks like your stuck until T-Mobile does something, which can take upto two years either way...I wish you luck.
Have tried switching to EDGE?
I had the same signal quality problems and switched to att as a result. Problems resolved and I still have my beloved Vibrant.

I'm sorry, but that's the stupidest generalization i've seen here in a long time.
While T-Mobile is building out coverage, there are many areas that they serve and ATT doesn't (cheyenne, wyoming), and where TMO brought 3g first (peoria, IL; manhattan, ks).
If you don't like their coverage, then switch. But don't make silly generalizations based upon talking points from 5 years ago. Coverage is ALWAYS subjective.
I usually sit around -105dBm and I'm in Sacramento where supposedly HSPA+ was just rolled out (I know I can't get HSPA+, but I thought it was supposed to improve the network here )
So I feel your pain...

Hey it's the facts..t-mobile network is still "spotty"...stop making them seem like god, they cover 96% while AT&T has 97%,,We don't even want to mention Verizon..but hey, nothing is perfect, it's just what's best in your area.

Yes, I did experiment with EDGE (GSM only) setting. It seems to be a bit better -100 dB (compared to the -110 dB I get on 3G).
I know Tmobile has less than perfect coverage, but I think it is extremely unfortunate that a mile from my house networks are blazing fast. My 3G is super fast and internet pages load very, very quickly. I do not live in a mountain area either..
I guess I will have to live with it. Use hands free to talk when I am at home so antenna is not blocked.. and use google voice for voicemail so important calls are not lost. if gogole voice fails, at least ppl won't be able to leave voicemail, and thus forcing them to call me back..

You may try returning it for a G2. TMo is supposed to release Wifi calling for it soon. It's probably coming to the Vibrant too, but I doubt before 2.2 is released.

I am still within my 14-days (until tomorrow), but the problem is I did not buy directly from Tmobile. I bought from online retailer so I cannot just go and swap phones I think. I think if I can back out of the contract and keep the phone and go to AT&T might be a good option (not sure how good the 2 GB data limit is)..
so i never really noticed this but i allways have 1bar for 3G and it ALLWAYS droping to 1X and when it drops to 1X its still at one bar
i tested my speed thru speedtest and im only getting 200kbps download speeds =/ does anyone else have this problem or is it just a verizon problem? im in Des moines ia and i dont see why we wouldent have full bars as this is the main place to be in iowa lol

Mine drops signal at when im at work in a steel warehouse. I had no problems on orange with my old phone.
Im also on Vodafone.
I have a friend at work with the Desire HD. He is on Vodafone and we always get the same poor signal in the same spots.
I thought it was the phone at first, but it is Vodafone. They just have a weaker signal it seems.
T-Mobile/Orange will have the strongest signals because they use each other for boosts.
I do notice though, that when the phone displays 2 bars and i turn data on, the signal sometimes cuts off completely. (at work only, i have full signal outside wherever i go).
It does make me believe that some sneaky designer has programmed the software to make the signal look stronger than it actually is. Turning 3g on forces the phone to display its true signal is my guess.
I also noticed if you slide the pad out and hold the phone as you would normally hold the pad, that you get a stronger data signal. It gets even stronger if you slide the pad out and then place it on a table without holding it.
I'm on Three UK and besides in my house I normally get between 3 - 5 bars HSDPA anywhere in Manchester. My house has bad signal on any phone / network combo for some reason... Thank god for Wi-Fi!

I get a full 5 bars at work (up on 7th floor in an old building in Iowa). However I get 0-2 bars when at home.
I notice that this device consistently has lower bar counts than my other devices, even when sporting similar -Db levels for signal strength. I think it is a combination of poor antenna engineering and slight shifts in what the bars mean for strengths.

I've been using the HTC One for the last couple of days deciding between it and my Xperia Z.
This phone is the best I've used and IMO feels better than XZ in several ways.
However, the signal strength in low reception areas is very unstable. Compared with the XZ it is poor which I am not happy about it as I was planning to return the XZ and keep this. On XZ I get 3 bars of 4G and it stays that way with no dropped calls. On the HTC it's 1 bar and then switches to 4 bars 3g (on XZ full bars on 3g) then back to 4g. I've had calls drop mid conversation 7 times in 2 days! This is mainly in lower signal areas including indoors.
I have till today to return the XZ but I am honestly not sure what to do. Even the earpiece sound on HTC is better than XZ..hmm..
Do any of you know if HTC are any good with updates regarding signal stability?
If it's something fixable then I'd rather keep the HTC One. Other than this it's a flawless smartphone. So frustrated the signal reception is like this.

my signal is so much better than my htc sensation, tested with the same sim card and htc one has 2 bars better constantly.
How many of you people saying "it's better than my..." are talking about 4G signal strength?
Are you guys on 4g too if I may ask?
I'm baffled as too why this is happening when directly compared to the XZ. Maybe it's only in low signal areas.
I've kept it on 3g only and performance is more stable and holding on to signal better. There is no question in my experience that XZ holds on to 4g signal much better.
Haven't decided what to do yet as I much prefer the HTC but the 4g issue is a real shame.
Most probably know this, but just FYI -- often radios will fall back to HSPA from HSPA+ to save juice when no data is being used. This might be in play here.
I couldn't bring myself to return the HTC so will return the Sony.
The other advantages to me could not be over looked especially the processor, speakers, display and sense.
However I really hope the signal on 4g will improve with an update. I'm pretty sure this was addressed with other phones in the past.

I was using my friends HTC ONE In canada and he'd constantly have service (like 2 bars) as he was on LTE. LTE isn't available in all areas and where we live we get 3 bars of LTE if we're lucky. So all he did was turn LTE off and it was full bars as usual. The amount of bars we had with LTE was for the most part better than my Iphone5 and my other friends samsung galaxy s3.
I don't know about 4g signal but 2g/3g signal is far better than any phone I have ever had, my local tesco express is a killer for reception on every phone I have had except the one x which held up well but had like 2 bars 3 if I was lucky, with my one I get 4 bars and even 5 bars sometimes as I walk around the store and I have had the phone a week now and no signal or gps or wifi problems at all.
I was having connection issues even on 3G/H+ so what ive done is just turn off LTE and just kept it on GSM/WCDMA as i dont even have a 4G LTE plan and that has seemed to fix my issue so it may help other non-LTE users having signal issues.

Yes you are right with regards to this. As stated earlier I'm keeping the phone but this clearly demonstrates an issue with 4G that needs to be addressed. I tried the demo unit in store again and disabled wifi; same thing with 4G performance.
In poor signal areas I lose reception totally and concerned I have a faulty phone, where as the iphone gets 2bars, I lose it all together on the one. Was in the meeting today and everyone had reception but me, however it sometimes came back with one bar...
If the signal is strong, I have no problems, is where there is weak signal I get issues. Anybody else confirm the same?

I don't care what HTC call the antenna but in my experience it does not perform as well as others.
I pay more for LTE and it bothered me to keep losing calls.

So is this problem happens when you have 4g. İ bought my fone from uk fones4u so if its same ill have to send it back

Yes it's mostly with 4g only and most noticeable with call switching to 3g. I too am with EE and got it from p4u. If you don't make many calls I think it's ok. Honestly though I wouldn't trust it in low signal areas and say you need an urgent email. In my opinion the radio is not the best. Not sure if it's h/w or s/w fault but even when I sowed it to the guys in p4u inside a shopping centre it had the worst signal compared to others (4g). However WiFi is excellent.
You may have an issue with antenna connection to the motherboard as a result of production tolerances. Try to see if you can test another unit to verify that the issue exists.

so you're able to get LTE in canada?
If i can ask you a few question,
1) which area you at?
2) where your friend got HTC one?
3) are you with rogers?

Just wanted to add that the poor signal reception experienced is with regards to the UK 4G Lte.
This is currently with the EE network which operates the LTE on 1800 MHz.
I have tested it against the Sony Z, Nokia Lumia 920 in the same spot and the reception was inferior and overall poor.
In the store I tested it against a S3 (4g) and iPhone 5 all on the same network and it showed lower reception in 4g.
Please note that the problem is with 4g and functions well on 3g and WiFi is excellent as previously stated.
