Data Plan Issues - G1 General

So I have had my G1 for almost 3 months and data has always worked. I picked mine up off of craigslist so I didn't have to go through with the G1 Data plan mess with customer care. When I got the phone, I changed the APN to internet2.voicestream.com and away I went. I previously had a Shadow with the Shadow 100 plan and I never changed data plans because it just worked. A few days ago I flashed to JACHero and I first noticed the problem. When I try to browse to ANY site it comes back:
m.web2go.com: Subscription Upgrade Required
Your current plan is not compatible with this device.
After a few attempts at double checking the APN settings and browsing to different sites it just started working. Yesterday I switched back to Hero 5.0.2Hr5-A2SD I have the same issue but it will not go away.
I know I was getting away with using a cheaper data plan but did I get "caught" and now need to up my rate plan( )?

Did you ever find a solution to this?
I've been trying to see about a 'cheaper' data plan offered where I could just switch my APN and still work. I don't do a massive amount of data traffic, I just like to check my gmail, and maps gets the most of the bandwidth. Plus I had attempted twice to downgrade (online) from unlimited to the 400 sms + unlimited data, and it wouldn't allow me online, 2 days later the plan was removed
I paid full price for my phone, I don't feel I should have to pay a rate designed to subsidize the cost of discounted phones. This really is my biggest beef with the $35/mo data.
/wishes we had UK pricing

If you sign your contract through a reseller, some can give you a cash rebate if you supply your own handset. This kind of situation is particularly common for subscribers whos contracts have run their length and have become a month-to-month service. It's likely that you are currently on a similar month-to-month basis.

T-mobile has been shutting down the loop hole for the 100MB plan. I can no longer find a solution to this.
I just do not like the idea of paying 24.99 for what you can get at 9.99 with limited MB access.
I do not think there is anything else we can do.

BTW i think tmobile is blocking all people using the google phones from using the cheap data plan.
im also having the same problem with the " Subcription Upgrade required" message.
it really sucks because i have the $5.99 plan and it would have been nice to get 3G with that... i would have been happy even with Edge.
tried all 3 apn settings and nothing... if im gonna pay for 3g , might as well go with ATT as it has better coverage.
any sugestions ?

I honestly cheat a bit. I have the EDGE APN details entered, and set the APN Type to default.
Then, go download an alternative browser. I have only had luck with Dolphin Browser.
It works for me on Fido in Canada (Same as Rogers, AT&T, etc). Give it a shot

cheap at&t data plan?

so i'm upgrading my wizard to an 8525. up til now i've managed to get by without a data plan and only text messages. i'm curious how to get cheap data plans on at&t. i called them and they said $29.95/mo JUST for data.
i've heard people getting unlimited data for like $6 a month using proxies or something? i've had no luck perusing google and forums for info on this so hoping somebody here has some answers. thanks!
The cheapest plan I know you can get for unlimited data is the mediaNet unlimited for 19.99 a month, and thats if you get someone thats nice enought to give you that plan since they aren't supposed to give that plan to people with PDAs
so do you know if the mediaNet unlimited for 19.99 a month with work with a hermes? i used to have that with my 8125, but when i bought the 8525 they changed it...if i change it back to the media net plan...will it work? without getting any strange overages on my bill?

Yeah it will work. I've used for the last several months! The only thing to remember is to ONLY connect through wap.cingular, NOT isp.cingular.
I've noticed no problems with mine! When you get the phone the sales rep always tells you that you have to have the pda plan to use the phone. It is against the rules to use the MediaMax plan but between my phone and my wifes phone spending an extra 100 bucks a month for data started to really suck the wallet dry.
Now we both use Media Max 200 +Unl m2m texts. 24.99 Text and data all you want!
There are some other threads out here about this, search media max and you'll find them.
Now your not supposed to do this but many of us get away with it. Just make sure after every rom flash that youve got your connections setting on wap.cingular and UN: [email protected] and Pw: Cingular1
Reps and Phone people will not let you get this plan, GO ONLINE to att.com/mobile and add it there!
tell the reps that you're switching to a razr or something and ask to be switched to a Media Max option which gives you unlimited data and either 200 messages (19.99) or 1500 messages (29.99). MUCH cheaper than getting a PDA data option.
If your unlocked and have the coverage in your area, I would check T-Mobile data rates. I saved a bunch not going with AT&T.

while that's true, you do miss out on using 3G. especially if the prices you get can be close to the same.
so wat u r sayin is that i will lose my 3g connectivity if i get the media max plan instead of the pda......right now i have the 39.99 plan with unlimited internet and messaging.....so do u guys think it will be worth it to switch to the media max??
from the sounds of it no, you can still use 3g. please connect me if i am wrong... anyone?

You're right. You won't lose 3G by going with the lower priced plan. The person who said that you'd lose 3G was comparing using T-Mobile's lower cost plans to AT&T plans.
Oh, sorry if I confused anyone. I meant you lose 3G if you go to T-Mobile for a lower priced data plan. You absolutely will not lose 3G by getting a Media Max plan. I have the Media Max 1500 plan and I was using the Hermes (now Kaiser) and love it.

screw someone that's nice enough.
Do all of your business with AT&T online if possible. Go to the site and select MediaMax from the list (unlimited internet and like 200 text messages I believe) or the upgraded version that's exactly the same except 1500 text messages (for $29.99 instead of $19.99 a month). Do it online and nobody can say no.
getting the cheaper unimited plan for my 8525
If I go online and order the cheaper 29 dollar plan (or was it 39) anway, can I connect my AT&T 8525 to my laptop (tether) and use it for internet service? The AT&T rep told me this cost $80! My AT&T phone is running factory ROM, mobile 5 (mobile 6 when ever it comes out)

There's some people who still are waiting for the "official" release from AT&T. I guess that it all depends on your comfort level and what you're willing to do to/for your Hermes.
i have a cingular 8125, with T-mobile service, and i pay 6 dollars a month, (i dont think i even have to pay that_ because the proxy settings are from MMS settings, hmm.... but yea its super fast, but for 6 bucks, i cant complain

Here's what I've heard ... you can tether on the $20 plan ... but do so at your own discretion since tethering isn't a part of the plan. There's a lot of discussion about this on hofo. So far no one has been charged that I know of.

How did you set up/ where is the $6 tmobile internet?
I just Called At&T and told them to add [Media Max 200 Bundle for $19.99] to my account. they told me that I have 8525 PDA phone. and I told them that I am going to change the phone to razr. Then they added it for me and I reset the phone after changing the setting to wap.cingular
Now it is working fine. with 3G Connection.

Did anyone elses internet stop working today? I have had mine working for a few months fow, and this morning, boom, no internet. It said I needed to upgrade my plan.
did it occur to you to contact T-Mobile about this? Surely they can fix this for you.
not if there is a way around this. I don’t want a price increase for the same service, the price increase is dumb, and why do I need to pay more for the same service that I would get with my WinMo phone. I don’t even have 3g in my area.
I have no clue what you are saying . Customer support is free as far as I know? I don't have T-Mobile (I'm not from the US), but even if it were a paying number for support, you can always walk into a t-mobile store and ask there to check your subscription.
No with the G1 t mobile made a new service plan just for that phone, It give you nothing extra but text messages, and with the use of email, text is useless. But by using APN wap.voicestream.com you at least were able to by pass the new service plan. Up until last night.
*sigh* why do people always have to reply to threads that they don't have any clue about?
To answer your question, yes my wap.voicestream.com just quit working this morning as well! I have tried everything to get it up and running again, but to no avail. I am located in central florida if that matters.
It looks like T-Mobile might be wising up to us using the $9.99 plan... which I refuse to pay anymore since I only get gprs data here!!!
Yeah I even pay the $20 data plan. If I got 3g I could understand paying more. Well not understand, but I would except it. But to pay more for not getting more if crap.

Why do people complain about services they don't pay for anyway, heh.
Sigh and moan all you want. If you want service, you'll have to pay for it . If it's still not fine, contact T-Mobile support. Nobody here is going to swing a magic wand around and give you free internet.
Your only partly paying for messaging, edge/3g/gprs, mostly what your paying for is server usage to sync with google servers. Don't like this feature? Don't buy the phone.
I love these arguments... do you really think that $24.99 is a fair price for gprs which is less than 50kbps whereas 3g is pushing up to 1mbps? I would gladly pay $24.99 for 3g or possibly even edge, but definitely not for gprs! Not to mention the issue that when I purchased this phone they told me that I am in an edge capable area which is a lie. The T-Mobile kiosk in the mall has an edge signal that extends about 2-3 miles in each direction around it, but that's the only edge around which makes it even more dishonest.
Yeah they lied to me, I was told my internet was grandfathered in at 19.99 and would never go up. So I am fighting this with t-mobile support now. I am not trying to get a freebie I just want the service that I am paying for, and for a little corporate responsibility. Plus I am not under contract so they can lose out on $5 a month or $130 a month. And I have already requested a unlock code.
Mine crapped out this morning. I got an email at 6:55am EST, and I went to check Wunderground at about 7:05, and it was dead. Changed all my APNs to see if that was the problem, and it was a no-go.
Interesting thing is... Yesterday, I was playing with my boss' developer phone that he just got, and I was able to browse the web for a good half hour using the epc.tmobile.com APN. (Using my SIM card, which has Blackberry data on it)

Whether I think it is a fair price for gprs is immaterial. If the T-Mobile network were predominately GPRS only there would be few people using T-Mobile's data services. As it stands there is almost nowhere in T-Mobile coverage area that is GPRS only. Generally the only time you would fall to GPRS is if you are on the edges of service and the signal is not strong enough for Edge. Edge is a software upgrade from GPRS so it is unlikely there are towers that are still GPRS only.
But all of this is immaterial. You were aware when you got the G1 that T-Mobile U.S. required a $24.99 data plan. You were not coerced into geting a G1. You chose to get a G1 with this knowledge and for a time bypassed the requirement by "tricking" T-Mobile. You were aware then and now that T-Mobile had a requirement for the $24.99 data plan and would do all within their power to get you on it. So you made your choice with foreknowledge of the cost. T-Mobile did not sneak this in the contract on you.

I find it extremely unlikely if you are in a populated area that the predominate signal is GPRS. Towers in a region are not mixed, if the mall tower has edge the tower you are using very likely has edge, just your signal is not strong enough. Talk to T-Mobile support and see if it may be a problem with your tower otherwise. I am visiting my family on a farm where there was no cell phone service till two years ago and I have EDGE here. For that matter I have been on-site to oil fields where the trucks were equipped with cell repeaters to have any signal at all and even there I had EDGE. So by Occam's razor it is more likely your specific location than something representative of T-Mobile service.
There is no discount for crappy cell coverage, the answer is to go with a carrier that covers where you are likely to be.

I don't think you read all of my post. I pay $20 for unlimited internet, not t-zones. The plan is still up for winmo phones. In fact I was told on the phone the only difference between the 2 plans is a different APN name.
I was always under the impression that plan was called T-Zones.
From your apn wap.voicestream.com was called T-Zones, if you hacked it
Besides did i miss somewhere, where you called T-Mobile and asked why your plan no longer works for the G1?
the t-zone play is 9.99, the unlimited internet is 19.99 they just use the same access server for connection. And the first post on this page said I want talking with tmo support.

I was grandfathered as well and ended up dropping my grandfathered plan because I considered it not worth the fight. You I can see the argument for, t-zones users not so much.
EDIT: The wap.voicestream.com APNs were available to us but there was another set as well. Do not remember them off the top of my head. When I get home I will check and see if my Artemis stil has them configured.

How to save alot of $$$ on data

Ok so I got my G1 and a tmobile account, judging by there coverage map I should of had great service at home, work, and everywhere in between. Well after a week of struggling with no service more then half the time I decided to unlock my phone and use my old razr's sim (att). So I knew I would want data, I go onto the att site and low and behold I can use the cheap $15/month data plan!! It works perfectly (edge only but I'm not in a 3g area either way) I have been using it for over a month now with no problems, got my bill and didn't get any overages or anything what-so-ever. The trick is that att doesn't have any G1 IMEI's in there database so they just have it listed as a unknown device and can't force you to use a smartphone data plan.
For anyone who gets ****ty tmobile service, or no 3g and no hopes of ever getting it then this is a great choice. Yea you need someone else to use the tmobile account unless you can get out of it for free (do alot of roaming they will let you out of your contract, or complain about bad service for 2-3 months). Anyway I thought I would share this with the community, hope some of you find it useful.
I think there is a similar method for the G1 where you can use the old "tzones" plan for 5$? but cheap services are REALLY slow...
Yea I read about that on modmyg but tmobile is now checking IMEI's for that to see if anyone with a G1 is using it. I don't know about the speed on there but with att I get full speed on edge just like I do on there smartphone data plan. A lot better then the GPRS I got with tmobile, if I got any service from them at all.
There was an article on boygenius and other places that as of September 9th, AT&T would start requiring the $30 data plan for all smartphones. Those on the $15 data plan (such as I) would be grandfathered in. IMEI database be damned
And the $15 data plan is not slower. I regularly clock 1 - 1.5Mbps. There are other issues however. You don't get a real internet IP which might cause issues with some apps such as VPN. VPN doesn't work well, or at all.
Generally speaking though, I've had no issues using my Rooted G1 on AT&T's cheaper $15 data plan.
Personally I think $30 data plan with a real IP address on 3G is well worth the money, it's the damn voice minutes that are way overpriced.

Yea I read that too.The thing is ATT doesn't have the G1 in there database because it's not a device they (officialy) support. They have no way of knowing it is a smartphone, which is why you are able to choose the $15 plan, when I had my fuze on there it wouldn't even show it as a choice. If they knew it was a smartphone you wouldn't even be able to choose it. I am in a area where 3G isn't, and probably never will be so I don't care about having it you know. If it was available then I would of gotten the Roger's dream so to be compatible with the ATT 3G bands.
edit: here is that artricle
Data plans (on everything but the iPhone) are incredibly profitable for carriers like AT&T. Most smartphone users pay for way more bandwidth than they will ever actually use. That's why ATT has made the choice to start requiring data plans with all of their smartphone purchases. If you already have a smartphone with AT&T but no data plan, your phone will be grandfathered in and you will not have to buy a plan.
According to a leaked internal email found by Boy Genius this change will come to the AT&T network on September 6th. If you currently use a non-smart phone with a data plan, you will have to upgrade to a non-MediaNet plan when you buy a smartphone. Unlocked handsets will not be affected by this change.
AT&T claims that this change has been made in order to give customers the “best possible experience” by ensuring they have a “predictable bill”. That's a funny way to say, “we want more money, and you have to pay.”
To be honest, this change probably won't affect very many people. ATT notes that the vast majority of customers with smartphones use data plans. When people buy an Internet phone they tend to want to have access to the Internet. This is a pretty transparent ploy to buff profit margins, but it's also not a big enough change that it is going to get a lot of customers up in arms.
Well I've had the $15 data plan forever. I don't even remember what **** phone I used to sign up for it.
But if you want the cheap data plan here's what you do. Did this for a friend.
Find the cheapest 3G phone AT&T sells,. go on ebay, buy it for $25. Call AT&T up and register it on your account with the IMEI number, then get online and add your $15 data. Then put the sim in to your Rogers G1.
Better get on it before the due date.
Just went through my email. I bought an LG 255 off ebay for $25 and gave it to my buddy. He called in and had it added to his line. After that he could add the $15 data plan. He popped his sim out and put it in his G1.
Simple as that.
Don't feel bad about this, as AT&T is going to start enforcing this, now this the time to get on it.

Well that's a releif, because if you look at $15 less per month over 24 months, you are saving $360 by staying off the $30 plan. More than enough to make up for the AT&T contract price on their phones, so I can stick with an unlocked GSM phone of my choice. I like choice.
So if I buy a new smartphone from AT&T, I won't be grandfathered anymore right?

It may suck to you, but what sucks to me is tmoblow's coverage. When I signed up they showed me a coverage map that had my home, work, and all other areas I am usually in getting GOOD-GREAT Edge coverage. I got home and I was lucky to get GPRS, and more then %50 of the time I would get no service, now I am getting service everywhere I go with att and it is stellar. Added to that, I am only paying $15 for data vs $25 from tmoblow. I thought I made it clear from the get go that I was using a different carrier, next time read slowly.

Amen to that. I actually want to be able to use my phone without standing in the middle of my street, facing 45% west with no breeze lol. It literally is that bad where I live, and it's in the middle of the city. My room mate had to get a wifi phone from T-Mobile to connect to our router just so he could at least hold a call.
I want to like T-Mobile, but their coverage is not so good in Salt Lake City, not compared to AT&T and everyone else.

Exactly. I was excited try them out, they have really good voice plans and the myfaves is a great idea. But it is all useless when you have "No Service" on your screen all day. When I wanted to use my phone I had to put my head upto the window and I felt like a idiot. I get to work that day and have to go outside and walk in circles until I get a glimmer of hope that my call will go through, until I put the phone to my ear and get that deathly vibration.
I signed up for AT&T with my ADP1 back in December of last year, and, it did work, sorta.
I had the following issues:
HTTPS communications didn't work - not websites directly, nor Twidroid over SSL.
SSH via connectbot didn't work - only over WiFi
VPNs didn't work - again, only over WiFi
IMAP email over SSL didn't work.
POP3 email over SSL didn't work.
Exchange ActiveSync didn't work.
Basically, any form of encrypted connection went out the airlock.
If you can live with that, then the cheaper price is really great. If, however, any of the above is of value, you'd have to weigh that against the extra money. I went to the PDA Net plan to get those 6 things working. I use my phone regularly for SSH, and I tether my phone to my netbook frequently, and use it to access encrypted sites, VPN into work, check my email over IMAP/SSL, etc... The difference in price is worth the features, to me. YMMV...

That is a valid point. Honestly I don't use any of that so it doesn't affect me, but if I needed those features I would have to switch. I use regular email for everything through gmail so I am all good. Are you saying tethering wouldn't work for you? Because I have tethered my aspire one a few times, granted you don't get the 3G speed but it does work for me. I don't really know what SSL is used for exactly or VPN, so don't take my advice on this plan if you use those things. I just browse the web, maybe do some ebaying, make orders for supplies, and lots of email and texts.

No, I'm saying that when I tethered, my netbook adopted the same limitations I stated above. Other than those, it worked fined.
I use gmail, too, for my primary account, but I also check my work account on my phone via K9 or the Work Email program that does ActiveSync. Additionally, I use Thunderbird on my netbook to access my gmail over imap/ssl. That didn't work from my netbook while tethered using the normal non-PDA plan.
When I signed up for service, the sales agent actually suggested the cheaper plan at first, which is why I went with it. He said most people don't have issues, but if you do, we can change you to the PDA one. I tried it, had issues, and changed.

I can access Google services, Paypal, and use SSH with my $15 Media Net plan. Not sure why any of this won't work for you.

Interesting. This explains a lot. I've been *****ing I couldn't log in to my online banking and now I know why.
Ya I think the $30 is worth it if you need it. Interesting that they choose to cripple certain things, but for $15, I can't complain.
I use RoadSync for work mail and it uses SSL, so this SSL restriction must be port specific.
Oh, and a question. If I go to the $30 data plan, does it use a different APN? like isp.cingular or something?

I would like to know if i can use my web2go ($10.00) internet plan on the Samsung vibrant. I have this on my iphone and have done this on the nexus one, so any feedback would be great.

That's not how it works.. once you change your data plan you won't have any data because your account isn't provisioned for use with Android anymore.
it doesnt work...
i tried sim from my friend using nokia n900 with $10 plan, i changed apn to internet2.voicestream.com but it didnt work, keep taking me to page saying upgrade...
i also tried with the sim from friend using same plan in iphone, keep sending me to same upgrade page, that sux, because it works on nexus one, why not in samsung vibrant, they both have same android os and i changed apn too as directed for nexus one, dont understand why isnt it working...
It doesn't work because T-Mo has the IMEI numbers for the phones they sell. Ever notice how non-network phones don't show up in your profile? Because they can't tell what device you're using; hence, they can't charge you extra bull**** fees that discriminate against certain phones.
It sucks, and I had to lose my grandfathered internet plan because of how T-Mobile defines 'Internet'. When I signed up for that cheap internet plan, years ago, I was told that it was 'unlimited' and that I could 'visit any site'. But now, the definitions have changed. I hate it, but look at it this way:
If you're a preferred customer (loyalty customer, as they say), you can get your "Unlimited Internet" package for $20/mo. Retail stores can only get it down to $25, but CSRs can give you $20/mo. If you can do better, please let me know.
Plans are only going to cost more, with the rollout of tethering and faster networks. Look at AT&T for an example of where things are headed. Verizon is rumored to go next. Today is the most stressful time to think about new cell phones and plans. We're about to lose 'Unlimited' plans for good, and Sprint appears to be the only carrier concerned with having decently priced plans (so no competition). I figure: I'd rather be locked into a grandfathered internet plan that is better defined than Web2Go was, so when they raise the prices next year (or five years from now), I'll still be sittin' pretty.
That's how I rationalized going from my cheap internet bill to my $20/mo internet bill. I'm future-proofing my next phone, and avoiding overage charges.

Tmobile US htc hd2 unlocked to use $10 unlimited data plan for non smartphones?

I was wondering if i can use unlocked tmobile htc hd2 with the $10 data plan (unlimited) that is available for non smartphones. Will tmobile realize that i am using htc hd2 and upgrade it to smartphone data plan? i am gonna make a contract with a non smartphone and add that 10 dollar data plan to use it on my htc hd2 Do you have to have an Unlocked htc hd2 (not tmobile branded) to do that? is it even possible either way?
Yes it is possible to do such a thing, but for how long is currently unknown. T-Mobile has recently started denying people using the non-smartphone internet with smartphones internet access as it is a violation of the TOS...so good luck!
So i can do it with the tmobile branded unlocked htc hd2? but dont they know that i i am using htc hd2 if i use the 10$ data plan and automatically upgrade it?
Yes they will know you are using an HD2, and yes, it is possible that they will upgrade it automatically. My advice; just opt for the 20USD unlimited smartphone data from the start...you won't have to setup the proxy or live in fear that your plan will be upgraded.
Isnt it 30 USD? if it was 20 then i can probably get the data plan but i am pretty sure the data plan is $30. Wait so if you dont get the $10 data plan on the tmobile branded unlocked htc hd2, will they know its a hd2?
There's no way to get around it. They will know what phone you're using. I do not know if they will make a change to your plan without confirming with you.
I don't know how you will actually enable the $10 plan in the first place though.
Thats a good point aswell. You have to have a device that supports the 10USD plan to even add it to your plan, so you may not be able to anyways. And the full internet is either 20 or 30 depending on your contract arrangement.
I recently got my phone and it's working for me. I get HSDPA speed with the $10 internet.
Yeah it should work.... just so you know you are defrauding the T-Mobile network. There's still a lot folks out there that are apparently still on the T-Zone plan as well....
Actually if you know or are familiar with those Asian run phone shops and ask nicely you don't even need a dumb phone to setup the $10 plan, the reps that work there will just call T-mobile and defraud the whole system for you.....
Yeah... that's just jolly.

Does it really bother you that somebody else has a good deal going with t-zones on the HD2? If it makes you feel better, T-Mobile will probably be forcing users to upgrade their plans starting this Wednesday.
Yeah to me it kinda does, because they know they are screwing the system but continue to do it. Anyways I formally ask that this NOT turn into another debate about the morallity of people using the 10USD plan versus the correct one. Thanks.

Bother me, nope.? I don't even have data plan... i refuse to pay for it when i can get free wifi @ my home/campus/work....
The OP asked a question and i voiced his options, all of them.... whether he chooses to to take the dark route or not is his business. In addition i don't see how you can justify calling T-Zones as "has a good deal going" when you are in fact defrauding the network, which i have clearly pointed out in my previous response. My advice is pretty much borderline crack pot shady... but it's been discussed about here numerous times and t-mobile has done nothing to fix his loophole.... yet...
Just to add about the $20 internet plan. I have it for my HD2 (part of family plan), the rep added it when we were renewing the contract and ordering the phones (my sister got the 3G slide which came with the $25 plan). So if you want it, try calling them and talking to a rep, they should be able to add it for you (YMMV).
T-mobile can block you at any time since they do have a database of their own IMEIs and they know what device is accessing their network by it's IEMI that is transmitted every time the phone accesses the network.
It would be a very simple task for T-mobile to block the non supported devices for that data plan
Well here is what happend when I upgraded one of my lines. I just upgraded to an HD2, a couple days later theytossed on a 104 web plan. Which is fine cuz I want to use the web anyways. when I first was using my HD2 it said that it needed a subcription to access the web, blah blah. So, i changed the wap settings to internet2.voicestream.com and it works great. 3g speeds and everything.
Why did you change to the slower proxy?

The stock epc.tmo doesnt work when you have the 104 (non smart phone plan). The speeds are the same with the internet2 settings. unless you know of a different one that works a well. It works just fine.
I had a phone recently, Nokia 5530, and had the 10 dollar internet plan and I noticed depending where I was in the country I sometimes would get full internet access and other times I would get off the standard tzone areas and it would show subscription upgrade required message.
I think it might depend on where you live for this to work. Perhaps the WAP settings might also work.
There is a way to get the $10 t-zone plan on your HD2
Here is a simple way to get the t-zone on your HD2..
1) Login to your t-mobile account via the web.. register first if you haven't do so.
2) when you login, T-mobile might choose your phone (maybe HD2 already selected).. at this moment, change your phone to any non-smartphone.. like samsung T509 or any non-smartphone as your default phone.
3) go to change service and add the $10 t-zone internet to your plan
4) set your HD2 with the right APN setting you're OK.
5) For me, if you're using internet2.voicestream.com in Winmo works OK and in Android works OK.
This is a cheated way or gray area... Either way T-mobile make extra $$$ from you. I think T-mobile knows this loop hole, but they keep it open because they don't want to upset us cheapie????
my 2 cents
did they get rid of this? I do not see the option anymore.
