Windows Mobile 7 - XPERIA X1 General

Will the Xperia be compatible with WM7 when it comes out?
Simple short question, but i am anxious to know.

Short answwer? Nobody knows, but probabl will be ported. Certainly not be official upgrade, but if they are able to put Linux on Experia, just couse it uses same processor arhitecture, that i am 99% sure they will port Windows 7 as well.
It is becomming more prety much like on desktop you can put Windows 7 on computer that came with Vista preinstaled right?

Windows Mobile 7 isn't the same thing a Windows Mobile 7. I am quite sure a version of WinMo7 will come out for the XPERIA when a beta version is available. There isn't a lot of new features in WinMo7 that I know of so for now I will use 6.1.

Wow, not a lot of new features? Have you seen the screens???

So I take back that statement. Screens look awesome.

Those pictures aren't official. Why are you guys making assumptions?

Well you can be sure WInMo 7 will have EVERYTHING rewritten. Every menu, SMS sending everything, no more ugly menus, so it is not that much abaut features iPhone has less of them for example. But if you will be moving through setting or stuff anywhere you won't see one single resemblance to WInMo 6. It will be like TF3D would be made to completly remove any WInMo 6 stuff there is, just different, so WinMo 7 is bringing buty to Windows Mobile, somthing that has been neglected from winmo 1 to 6. And a little tweaked for 6.5.

Because that all we know is that they are leaked pictures so we assume that this is WinMo7, for at least a bit. Can anyone guess the system specs?

"Can anyone guess the system specs?"
seriously you want people to guess?

Installing WIndows Mobile HTC HD2 ROM on the Nexus one

Hi,
I know it might be an odd question but:
Is it possible to flash an HTC HD2 ROM on the nexus one there by changing the OS to Windows Mobile?
I'm asking this because I see that the HW of both phone are almost the same but the nexus one is cheaper.
I want to buy the nexus one but if i don't like the android OS I wanted to know if I can change it to Windows Mobile with the sense interface?
Regards,
Michael
coming from htc diamond to g1 to magic and to nexus one,
HEll u will love the android interface..
WM is crap.
So i think i answered yr questions
No,
Bye!
I don't think I've heard of anyone coming from Windows Mobile to Android and wanting to go back.
When I started using Android from Windows mobile it was like going from swimming in mud to swimming in Evian.
Try it, if you live in the UK you have 14 days to return anyway (I think).
Something like this sounds like it'd break the time space continuum or something. Wasn't the HD2 skin made to look like the Sense Android interface in the first place?

Actually, Windows Mobile is the ONLY mobile OS that can play pretty much any video file I can throw at it; DivX, Xvid, avi, wmv, etc. And they played flawlessly. That's one of the things I sorely miss during my move to Android
And before you say it takes a lot of power or whatever to do this, I did all this on my Samsung SCH-i730, about 4 years ago. http://reviews.cnet.com/smartphones/samsung-sch-i730-verizon/4505-6452_7-31313312.html
I see absolutely no excuse for Android or the iPhone for not having this.

It isn't a matter of power, it is a matter of someone making an app to support it. The big names on WM are starting to take a long hard look at Android and developing for it. As well, the SDK has gotten much better and increased overall support for this and that.
I would be willing to bet that by Summer we have coreplayer, or something similar. As well, IIRC the actual HTC version of this phone with SenseUI has support for all of those video formats, except for maybe wmv. And those features and what not will be ported over to the Nexus One when that day comes.
Might as well install the iPhone OS while your at it
CorePlayer will hopefully make its way to Android soon...

We have been asked if we plan to release a version of CorePlayer for Android. The short answer is yes

Hmm, almost 6 months...
Just wait for a Sense Rom to hit the N1 then you can have the Sense interface and have android functionality.

Yeah, if you read through(not sure if you did or not) it is pretty clear the delay isn't because they can't make it, it is because they are waiting for and SDK/NDK that supports everything they need, since they want it to be a universal app.
From the sounds of it, Google is working on allowing them to include their libs natively in the near future, and when they do that they should be where they need to be.
WM6.5
Yes there should be a suitable rom, for Nexeus One.
And why not its a lot of fun having dual boot or may be tripple boot using Ubnuntu.
Ashrafali.
HTC HD2
Waking up old threads isn't good for health, they eat your brain.
And if for 10 months nobody cared enough to make such ROM - there's your answer. Because it's worthless waste of developer power. Want one? You can always try to do it yourself. I'm glad the developers work on other things, that are the future, and not the past.

At least here in the US the HD2 is really cheap, while the nexus is holding its price really well. In my local craigslist a hd2 costs around $170-250, while a nexus is $300-450. You may want to check ebay and just buy a hd2 for cheap and ship it to your country. However, i doubt you will be disappointed with android so nexus would be a better bet.
OK
Help me learn how to make one I will be glad just show me the way, few links and I will pick up, trust me I like to do this .............

HTC HD2
I came from Windows mobile to Android recently and too gush at the interface.
The only reason I'd go back to Windows mobile is for activesync functionality, mainly with outlook. (I have tried all the tricks btw)
Would the Sense ROM be a dual boot like the 4g phone has? Will it sync nicely with outlook?

What type of sick individual would do such a thing?!
JK buddy I had the Hd2 at one point but I'd much rather have Android any day of the week
I think it is dumb that people are attacking the author of this topic just because he enjoys using windows mobile. Personally I used to have a mogul and it was a great phone to me. I don't think all you android fan boys need to be all aggressive like that. I personally like android more just because of its rapid updating and ui. But that doesn't mean that other people wouldn't like windows mobile better. But on the other hand I might switch to windows mobile 7 it looks really nice and i'm sure they will get it together with some developers.

Just a speculative thought

Could it be that WM 6.5.x will stay around when WM 7 will be rolled out? I don't know what Microsoft requires at this moment from OEMs w.r.t. wm 6.5.x but I can imagine that they going to give developers complete freedom about how they want to alter the interface. So maybe we see two phones in the future: a WM 6.5.x based phone that is completely "skinned" by a OEM and on the other hand a true Windows Mobile Phone that is hardly touched?
Maybe we can expect a more enhanced and gradually more sophisticated Sense update for our HD2 (that will cover the complete wm interface) instead of WM7
wouldn't surprise me. Some PCs are still runing windows 95. 15 years after it was released, and you can still order PCs online with Win XP installed if you want.
So I think it should be left to the purchaser if he wants to have win 6.x. Of course, I doubt that you will get a choice of OS on the phone, more likely a choice of phones with different OS on

what a wonderful thing would that be, I'm not too excited about windows 7 anyway. but I also think they will have just both in parallel with different phones, 7 for mainstream users and the classic for business and powerusers.

Hd2 or windows phone 7 i say hd2

NO MULTITASKING NO FILE EXPLORER
enough for me will buy leo and not go on wp7 WHY??????
IF I want nice OS can take Iphone or nokia s4o and get all like new wp7,but if anyone want mobile computer....... wp7 is nice good looking and thats it no more hacker boosting cant go in system well I could do that 4 y ago in my 66oo and want to do that now. microsoft make big big mistake windows mobile will lose lots of users.I will go on 6.5 and hd2 or will wait little more for maemo6 and see what device will go with it but windows phone 7 is big disappointment for me and cant understand why microsoft do this.
Wait for yours opinion guys
dont know if all these windows phone 7 rumours are true but if they are and it looks like the vids we are seeing im going to android next.

+1 here
when the rumors come true, my next device is definitely android/maemo/meego.
One of the reasons I have been using WM and HTC phones for the last 4 years is because I absolutely love tinkering with them, I don't think more than a couple of days pass without me doing something to the phone with new mods or apps.
A fixed OS would be a big turn off for me, I love the ability to customize my phone and just mess about with it, wherever I am.
I was WinMo then switched to Android for about 15 days with G1 phone... then returned it all together (2 times two different devices) and got myself Symbian )e71) which I use now. I was tired of touchscreen a bit and had no problem going to smartphone... since I wanted iphone that is not iphone litteraly I read the review if no touchscreen is a must - E71 is a way to go... review did not dissapoint. I quite happy user but that was about 2 years ago... I am now ready for another phone and it will be either MeeGo device (Nokia+Intel), Maemo (n900) or HD2. I am not thinking Windows 7 Phone for numerous reasons...
iPhone I do not want... Androids are simply NOT THAT SMOOTH as advertised but all models are simply compared to the previous Android device and blown out of proportion how better it is... problem is I want something that opens stuff in the blink of an eye, that has no bugs, that hold battery enough for me to operate on my stuff I need (1 days is kewl) and that's it... oh yeah - I want Garmin XT installed which I have now and my other choice is HD2 besides Symbian S60 devices... Nokia Touchscreen is not that perfect yet - so my favorite now is HD2 - however, I will not get it yet - I want to see massive reviews from people that get it...
i love htc sense and i will follow it to android

I'm leaving android sense for a hd2. android sense is nothinglike the winmo sense.
HD2 is just fine plus i am sure they will at some point make the WM7 avaible for it. And if not - the shefs will manage to cook similar roms.
Plus - waiting sucks, i've already waited way too long for the Leo and it was worth it!

Why no WindowsMobile 7 for HD2?

Yesterday, i saw at Tweaker.net that the HD2 doenst get the upgrade to Windows mobile 7, WHYYYYYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! G*dD****T

Why are you so behind with the times? This has been discussed to death already, and there are dedicated forums for this.
You just have to search first.
The first WM7 ROM has been hacked, and our geniusses from XDA are already developing tools for cooking. I expect the first WM7 ROM for HD2 won't be too long .
Let's get the discussion running again

Have you seen anything about Win Mo 7 that looks anywhere near as feature rich, customisable or even just pleasing to the eye as Win Mo 6.5 (or Android for that matter)?
Win Mo 7 is not a step forward! It is a marketing exercise by MS.

I agree. I reckon they're trying to aim for the iPhone market, not the current WM market. The current WM market will just be left to fend for itself on WM6.5 until we all go over to Android.
Don't worry, with people working on the leaked ROM, it'll be about soon enough.
You just wont see it being ported over in any official capacity by HTC or MS.
Though as tonyblack said, why would you really want that anyway??

dell streak and windows mobile

excuse me for my question i'm really a newbye.
is it possible a dual boot for the streak with windows mobile or windows 7 and android ?
or the dell streak with windows mobile only?
I ask this, because it's possible the contrary for example htc hd2 with dual boot or with the rom android.
Thanks.
I don't think so and why will you do that? it's like installing windows 95 on a core i7.
I was a winmo user for a long time and the only thing that will get me back to it is Garmin XT but it is not worth it.
anyhow I beleive you need a hacked bootloader, so you can have a nice fancy menu for dual boot, but I doubt any devs here would like to drop WinMo at the streak. since we just had a release of Vanilla Froyo.
I'm ok with you regarding wm6.5 but Wm7 could be fun on it. It's being able to have the choice that make a piece of technology powerfull
Windows Mobile 7 is hardly anything like Windows 95 when compared to Android. Yes, I'm a former WinMo user happy with my Android device (HTC Desire) but that doesn't mean Windows 7 is in any way comparable to WinMo 6.x. Microsoft completely rewrote the OS, from the ground up, to run on these types of devices. I haven't had a chance to play with it but it looks to be a much more polished system that WM6.x ever was.

I'll be interested in that also. Win 7 interests me especially if they get the communication agrigation right as they claim.

yes, so am I, because I feel better with tomtom and there's no android version,
so co-pilot , perhaps igo are compatible with it.
Oh yeah, one thing I tottaly forgot, winmo has a LOT of medical market and propietary jobs... here in my country the police uses winmo to check your id's and stuff. so I guess it's not a bad idea... but I can't imagine a police guy with a streak. Now a little off topic but there is a QIGI with 5 inch screen and WinMo 6.5 If you wanna look at it here it is

+1 on the 6.5. Although thats not fair since I haven't used WP7 yet.
hey...remember the old HTC Shift Tablet? that dual booted 6.5 and Vista...I'd imagine the Streak could pull a dual boot of WP7 and Android.
Omg yes, that shift tablet is sick! Found one at a local cell phone store. Would have got it but not willing to shell out the 1000 they were asking for. For me I have used 7 its nice but lots of things were missing that 6.5 had like a file explorer and the wifi hotspot thing.

Yep I was a die-hard winmo user and had no idea what I was missing in the android world. Android is so smooth, no sticky screens, stopped processing and hangups like I was used to in winmo.
No dual boot for me. Android is cool !
