i would like to buy car charger for td2 and want to make sure i get the official correct one, i am thinking of getting ''HTC CC100 Mini USB In-Car Charger'' is this the correct one as i have noticed the usb input on td2 is slightly different shape to my old xda orbit usb, any feedback would be usefull if u got car charger for td2

The device charges from any USB port, so any car charger designed to power mini-USB socket devices should work, should it not?

I found with my 500mA charger, that while navigating for a long time (2 hours), my battery still drains..
The original HTC charger is a 2A charger, that can keep up charging while navigating.
Very interesting find there! I just ordered a Brodit kit for the car and this time round, I went for a active one so I just slot the phone in and it charges.
I will have to find out what current it gives out because I would potentially use navigation especially as I am recently finding the Audi one can be really crap!
On another note, I bought a premium HTC original one - it lasted all of a month and bearing in mind I must have used it 3 times in total...Was shocked!
What I found was that I had to hold it in a certain way to charge however, it was NOT the charger and it was NOT the phone.
For example, the charge worked fine on a Diamond1 but not 2.
For example, the phone worked with USB cables so its not the port.
Let's see how the brodit kit goes!
so can i use my old xda orbit charger and i have an old usb car charger adapter that was for something else so can i just stick in the td2 usb cable into that and charge it, i am just a bit overley concerned as i had to send 1st td2 back as it only held full charge for 45mins and i dont know if i damaged it by using wrong usb charger

Nice and beautiful charger. We use it for my HTC TD2 and her HTC S310, earlier I used it for my TyTN II too. In my car there is a passive Brodit holder for my TD2.

I've a car of "premium" mark, so there must be a premium charger.
Black-Rose...where does your "premium-mark" have its charger connector? I consider mine to be "premium" too but the location of the cigg. plug is in such a bad location !

I don't have time to get it done properly in terms of the fixed installation and no doubt it will cost a lot more too for the product. I'll see how the 800mAh goes with navi too...if it's bad, then I'll have to invest in the HTC cable again and hope it works this time.
i use HTC CC C100 as well, which came with my Polaris. it works fine with both my last Nike and Topaz now.
OK Ended up telling Clove to cancel the Active holder and change for Passive
Just not worth the risk if Im lacking that much in the charger/current
But I got the new HTC C100 today - works fine with the phone

I'm not quite sure what your trying to use to power it but the voltage must be between 4.75 and 5.25V otherwise its gonna get a bit upset!

On AC power supply of this device are writen +5V 1.2A i hope that car charger will be the same voltage?
The car charger will give out the same voltage but I would put a voltmeter across it anyway just to check and also to confirm the polarity as this could well upset the XDA! The highest amperage across a USB bus is (I think!) 500mA but a 1.2A supply will be ok as the device will only pull what it requries. Don't try and power both devices off the same charger though (just checking this isn't what your trying to do) as there won't be enough power to go around.

I was just thinking about doing something like that. How much power does the BT mouse require? Given the XDA can be powered from a standard usb connector it doesn't require more than 500mA. So do you think 700mA aren't enough for BT mouse??

It "should" be fine to power both off a 1.2A supply (although i dont know if the car charger will be able to supply this or not. mains - 5vDC is very different electronics to 12vDC-5vDC). The worst that should happen is that the GPS needs a large power supply, and the voltage supply will drop (what happens if you draw too much current) The Wizard should then just ignore the useless voltage (below 5v) and not be worried by it.
This is all should and not will, i dont know what components are fitted in the Wizard charging & power circuit.
I haven't tested it personally but do have a reasonable knowledge of electrics & electronics

I like using my ebay-bought USB adapter and retractable mini-usb cable. Cuts down on the mess, and lets me charge other USB devices.
I use Motorola OEM that I got long time ago (4 years back with my first RAZR) - It works no problem
I also use regular USB cable with my wife's iPhone car charger and works fine too... So I guess Blackberry charger will do the same since I use Blackberry as home charger too occasionaly
Note that many of the miniusb chargers will not work consistently. Elsewhere here on the forum there are extensive details, but in short, HTC compliant chargers (meaning will charge 100% of the time) short pins 4-5 on the mini usb port. This is not implemented in normal mini usb chargers. The normal (non-HTC compliant) will usually work but not always.
Read about a small percentage that seemed to have trouble (RLOD related trouble) from cheap or non-HTC chargers, so I got a true HTC OEM at www.tiltdepot.com. Best $25 I've spent.
I have used a tomtom car(borrowed from my mom) charger too, wich is 2.0 Ah, but found out the HTC charger (same 2.0 Ah same voltage) charged a lot better than the tomtom one. After one hour(started with a 3/4 charged battary) the tomtom was pretty much the same(3/4) and the HTC one was fully charged.
Yep... With the TomTom charger I believe the charging current is limited because the HTC phone sees it as potentially a data connection. The HTC charger has short between pins 4 and 5 addresses that. Hard to beat the HTC charger.

The "11 Foot Heavy-Duty Cord" is nice... it's coiled tightly, and long enough to get to wherever you need to in the front of the cab, be it a center console or a seat. The digital display tells you how long it's been charging, and changes color when still charging the device (blue is standby, orange is charging). Nothing beats the Naztech for a USB car charger. I have the silver one, but it looks like the newer ones are black; you can probably get your choice of either if you get one off of Ebay like I did.
They have lots of other cool products for phones, too.

The above cradle can do all that, im not sure where it charges the second battery but expansys says it can
From the picture looks like the back is some form of lid, perhaps there is a battery slot under there

Just checked with Expansys, and it is pre-order only. they expect the cradle to be in stock by the end of september. And i can confirm that it does have a second battery chargering slot.

It dosent charge a second battery... it looks smart but it dosent charge a second... waste of a good opertunity... rather annoying...
I suppose (for me anyway) it is a good addition to my desk as when I pick up the device to make a call I dont now get the disconnection sound notice in my other ear from the sennheiser mono head set that I use for my skype to landline calls... if that dosent make sense call me on skype (justin0679) & I will gladly explain in more detail...

it also can plug in a 3.5mm earphone, so when you charge your cellphone, you can listen to the music at the same time.
and the led show you whether they're fully charged.
very good device, but a little bigger than i think.

Hi,
Expansys sell both an official HTC cradle and their own brand version. The official HTC cradle "CR G300" cannot charge a second battery. It does have a 3.5mm stereo jack for plugging in head phones or connecting to your amp to play music from the handset. It is a tidy looking piece of kit albeit prone to finger print marks.
The expansys TP cradle can charge a second battery as you point out. You can find non oe TP cradles on ebay which sell for a lot less that the expansys asking price for its own brand version.

as they are easier to wiggle into any dashboard gaps you might have. They are pretty readily available on eBay, but note that they tend to have pretty low guage wire and aren't configured as twisted pairs so it is pretty hit and miss using it to transmit data but it seems to have no problem transmitting DC current. I have used this for very long trips using devices that pull about 1A of current and the cable doesn't warm up so I presume the resistance must be low enough for charging purposes.
Simply connect the other end to a USB Car Charger and you are nearly ready to go. Connecting it up this way will trigger charging but I suspect the device assumes it is connected to a PC as it turns the screen on when you connect it this way as apposed to the Wall Charger where the screen remains off. Careful using USB Chargers designed for other devices (Ipod etc) as they have configurations which may confuse / damage your device. I found this out the hard way when I connected my Jade to an Ipod USB Car Charger which caused all sorts of grief with an undetectable microSD card, the device refusing to turn off which although is now resolved, I am still uncertain whether I haven't caused some damage
So how do you convince the Jade to charge from your Car Charger like a Wall Charger? Well first thing to be aware of is that devices that implement USB charging have various methods of detecting a connection to a Wall Charger as apposed to a computer. As I have mentioned, the iPod (and my old iPaq) uses a resistor configuration between the Ground, 5V and Data Pins to tell the device that it is connected. Fortunately the Jade is much simpler. I have determined from searching the web plus attacking my Wall Charger with a multimeter that all that is required is that the Data Pins are bridged and that the Metal Socket Surround is connected to the Ground Pin (which it is anyway in most Generic Chargers). All that was involved in mine was opening the Charger, finding the middle data pins on the circuit board and dropping a solder bridge between them. Make sure you buy a good quality USB Car Charger that is easy to dismantle (mine was held together by screws) and can provide at least 1A.

My previous phone was a palm treo pro (htc panther), for which i bought a sprint car charger (micro usb). The first charger that was sent to me was heavily used, so i complained and got a new one. After i returned my treo, i got the jade and decided to sell the new charger and modify the old one (which was working fine, except the connector didnt connect properly) to charge the jade. So i opened it up and soldered the two (+ & -) wires to an old usb extension cable, so that now i have a car plug with and usb(-a) socket slightly standing out. When i connect my mini-usb cable for the jade only the charging led lights up.
What did you do with Data Wires? If you joined them together then you have achieved the same outcome as a solder bridge.
Nothing, i just cut them as short as i could. They dont connect to each other...the outer ground isnt connected, too...
I noticed a few complaints on this forum and others about Goggle Navigation being too much of a drain on the handset even with it plugged into a car charger.
My suspicion is that this is down to badly made car chargers, and on a previous occasion using the Testing menu, I noticed that my own charger was being reported by the phone as USB.
So I set about trying to rectify this, using my awesome rolleyes knowledge of how the phone recognises what it's being charged with and an 'I don't care if I kill the charger, it was free' attitude.
I took it apart and tested continuity between the 2 middle (data) pins on the USB plug, there was none, and the problem was identified. I simply flipped the board over and soldered these 2 pins together and reassembled the charger.
Took it out to the car, plugged it in and lo and behold, the Testing menu now reports that it is plugged into an AC source! As my phone is fully charged and I don't have any trips planned right now I don't know how much real world difference there is, but it's looking promising, at least the phone now knows it can draw 1000mA instead of 500mA, and for 5 minutes 'work' it was worth doing.
I didn't bother with a how-to as I figured chances of someone having the same charger as me were slim, but pics aren't a problem:

Probably doesn't tell you a huge amount unfortunately, but to be honest that's because it really is a simple procedure with not much to tell.
where did you get your universal charger? I'm wanting to chop one up and hide the nexus dock on the side of my GTI instead of blocking my 6" double din monitor..

It was an Xmas present, part of a universal kit. It's made by Mountech if it helps though.

Despite the mod, it's still not enough to charge/sustain the N1 with Google Navigation running (screen on full brightness). Guess it's just not man enough to produce the required 1A.
I have a USB port installed in my car as per the headunit
at full brightness and while using google navigation AND streaming Slacker via bluetooth... I do not have a -% charge
in fact, the N1 stays fully charged at all times... (however if I have less than 100%, it does take a long time for the % to go up... might take 5 minutes for 1% increase)
sooo I'm not sure what the problem is with the car chargers (as I don't use one)
I have a USB headunit and never thought to try and charge from it! D'oh!
