Currencies in Stock Tap? - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hello fellow Diamond 2 lovers!
Is there a way of showing currency values in the stock tap? It would be interresting to see the graphic development of the Euro, US $ and Yen in comparison to each other.
Thanks for your time, and take care!

I don't know but unfortunately that part is not working. (always will be 0% or 0.00) Maybe cause it does not know what was the high and low amount. If you go into the "Stock Details" you will see the graph about the changes.

You mean for the currency exchange rates?
For example Dow Jones shows correctly in percent (right now down 1.90%) but I always have to click the red or green box to see the actual change in percent.

Cool stuff. Anyone know the code for crude oil prices?

Cheers for the info, though does anyone else's currencies not show the numerical or percentage change?

Hi there,
Does anyone know how to change currency from EUR-$ to $-EUR?
Would like to have all currencies displayed in euro instead of dollar.

As mentioned by vax6,
USDEUR=X (this is $ to Eur)
EURUSD=X (this is Eur to $)

currencies will never show the change in % or in absolute value;
they are not exchanged in a defined market with open/close/high/low prices or opening hours (Fx is always active, worldwide, between counterparties).
So, a real "reference" price (to be compared with the "X" price) does not exist.
this is the reason why the right box is always green with "zero" value.

Great feature! Also works for Swiss currency
EURCHF=x

Thanks for the explanation, though with that in mind, perhaps the feature should take the change as being from one update to the next.

your idea is nice, it would need a development (as the data to fill the box is not available on yahoo finance, application should understand this, and calculate itself using the previous data)...

Tariff software

hey i got a mda vario which im using with a orange uk sim i basically keep going over the minutes text allowance and there services are poor in telling me my usage of text and minutes is there any generic software for this device i can download that will keep track of my tariff usage. i had one for a symbian based phone before wondered if there is one for pocket pc based phones

This software looks great ... didn't install it though :-/ My plan is unfortunatelly not based on free peak/off-peak minutes but rather on spending money (I have $xxx monthly included in my bill).
Any suggestions for this sort of tariff?

I think you can't have all the work done with it (i.e. calculate the amount that I have spent based on the time and day of the day that I've used, excluding the free calls and the best-pal calls). It just shows you how many minutes you have used.
There is a shareware that can do that, forgot its name. I didn't install it because it doesn't seems to work on my phone with WM5
actually, since i installed it on my kjam, i noticed it refreshing the today screen every 2 seconds, which i couldn't find a way to change it, therefor i removed it from my system.

That's true ... it's almost impossible to set it up so that it fits your plan... I remember that on Symbian phone I had program Extended Log from Psiloc which was customizable in any possible way, very very good and well thought piece of software! Unfortunatelly for PocketPC Phone Edition I couldn't find anything close to it :-(

It is the Phone Dashboard Minute Tracker. Not working in my WM5 though.

does this has the bouncing SE logo as the wait cursor?
Nope, it's rotating. I find the bouncy one a tad too childish. But that's just my taste.
This is simply me sharing what I use.
EDIT:
And if you like I can make a bouncy version.

oki, will try it out then
The white boarder of the bouncing icon isnt closing up with the edge as in the rotating icon, looks not so good on white background.
I tested it and imo it looks fine.
If more people complain I'll consider changing it. But I can't just keep meeting every request that's posted. (I'll treat that as a request, as else it's just a negative remark.)
You rock man!!
I installed the bouncy version, and I have a few issues.
1) My volume icon is still stock.
2) I think I have the 1% bug; battery shows 59% when S2U2 shows 60%.

That is really strange, for it's not the 1% bug (which shows 51%, 61% etc.), you've got the 1% bug backwards. xD
What ROM are you using? I'm starting to think it has something to do with that.
Also, as the volume icon is still "stock", chances are that it didn't install correctly.

Dont get me wrong..i'm glad i dont have to compile this thing myself. And its just a minor cosmetic issue.
But in direct comparison with the non bouncy icon the bouncing has a black line on its outer border on the left and bottom end, wich looks unprofessional on white, while the non bouncing icons border is perfect.
Angelusz, this looks really good, great work!
Whilst I know it's unreasonable to ask you to customise for everyone's individual taste, could you do a base cab that enables the icons to be used, and then a zip folder with the icons we can copy across as required?
Or does it just not work like that?
For example I would prefer not to have the SE icon (as I'd like to also use it on my Diamond), and also don't want the battery icon (as I use Ariel battery).
Again, great work, thank you for putting it together and sharing!

I'll consider it, but it takes a considerable amount of time to change it every time. I'm not getting paid for this or anything, and there's enough other things I must (and want to) spend time on.

The images are stored in .dll files. These need to be unsigned, edited and then resigned before they can be used. There's absolutely no way of doing what you ask.
Ahhh... ok, understand now.
Thanks for the feedback Angelusz, I might have to just go for it and install it anyway as the icons do look really smart!

[TUT] How to Add Currency Exchange Rates to TouchFLO3D

Yay my first tutorial!
TouchFLO3D on the HTC Touch HD sports a Stock tab, where you can easily track your favorite stock quotes.
You can also have your Stock tab display the most up to date currency exchange rates for several currencies. How? Navigate to Yahoo! Finance Currency Converter page, select the parity of your choice (for instance, we will use EURO to GBP) and click "View 5 day trend". Look for the string next to “Compare: ” (in our case GBPEUR=X). Go to your Stock tab in TouchFLO3D on your Touch HD, add a new Quote and in the search box, type in the string Yahoo! Finance displayed (it’s GBPEUR=X in our case). Tap for search and tap on the result. You now have an Exchange rate Quote on your Stock Tab.
Credit goes to: http://pocketnow.com/index.php?a=portal_detail&t=news&id=6335
Now if someone can tell me how to get rid of the Yahoo! Finance icon at the bottom of the Stock tab, I'll be very grateful
Great!
Nice one, thanks for that mate, been looking for something along these lines...can't help with Yahoo Icon though Im afraid!

Excellent, my sentiments exactly
It would also be great if, say for GBPEUR=X, we could see the inverse exchange rate as well. Would save us having to put both quotes in
Oh well...
excellent job, thanks
excellent stuff, that will come in really useful
I like the yahoo icon - when I click on it I get news.
But it would be great to have the 2-way exchange details for CHFEUR etc.
HOWEVER, has anyone solved the limit of 15 stock quotes ? Major irritation !! I'm thinking of going back to Stock Manager but I'm still ridiculously seduced by TF3D prettiness.
Thanks, this is very good to know! I'm using USDGBP=X and works fine!
Brilliant!!
Ill actually use the stock tab now.
So we have three more issues to deal with now:
1. Can anyone shed some light on the 15 quote limitation? Is there any way to overcome it?
2. How can we remove the Yahoo! icon at the bottom?
3. Is there a way to show the currency exchange AND its inverse in one quote?
So good, I've added it to the "Blackstone Hints & Tips - Things you may not have known" page on the Wiki.
I feel proud to have been able to give something back to the forum
very useful, and finally something to put into my Stocks tab!
thanks for the tip
Tks for the initiative!
Great I agree makes the Stock tab actually useful for something USDCNY=X works great. Thanks for the heads up.
Thanks a lot mate. Very useful find.
Thanks
Thanks a lot....Now we can put TF3D quotes to some work till economy gets any better.
Stopped working
mmm I just found this does not work anymore.
I tried several currency rates that previously worked: NOKEUR=X ; SEKEUR=X
What still does work is the rate to the Dollar, ie. NOK=X.
On Yahoo finance website the rates to the euro are still available, zo it must be something that HTC or Yahoo is filtering when Sense requests the quotes.
Any clue on this?
Is not working anymore....
Yes, I can confirm that in the past few days something happened (I think yahoo made some kind of filtering) that this is not working anymore, which is a pity because I was using this application a lot...
that was awesome!

[CONCEPT] SMS Counter

Hello Folks,
It’s been around a month since I’ve joined xda-developers and I have had a chance to get some of the best stuff for my HTC Touch Diamond from here. I think it’s time for me to return the favor and give back something to the community.
SMS Counter
For some time now I have been searching for a *FREE* application that basically can tell me how many SMSes I’ve sent. Thus, if I have a free message sending limit in my plan, I can know if I’ve exceeded it or not. Unfortunately, I could not find any. The only good application that I know currently doing this is the 'Efficasoft smartphone sms counter'. (Though, If there is such application and if I’ve missed it, someone please bring it to my attention)
And thus, I thought of making one!
Possible Features
I spent some thinking about it and I figured that I can add a few more features to make this application a bit more, well, feature rich. The next post lists the features that I have currently is my mind. Based on your suggestions/feedback, I will change the list.
Development Platform
I will be making this application in .Net Compact Framework v3.5 / C#. Thus, people wishing to use this app will need the Compact Framework installed on their devices.
Devices
At the moment I’m planning to make this only for the HTC Touch Diamond. Once the app is a success and if it has a good demand, I can plan on porting it to other devices as well.
Pricing
If everything goes as planned and if this application sees the light of the day, it will be available for everyone to download for FREE, ALWAYS!
So my fellow community members, please think about this and give me your valuable feedback. I want to know your suggestions, your ideas. Do we really need this app in the first place? Is there something better already available? If we need it, how can we make it acceptable to a wider range of audience? Do we add more features or do we just put the most basic features? Lot of questions and your answers are welcome.
Thank you!
[CONCEPT] SMS Counter - Possible Features
Below are the possible features that I am currently thinking of implementing:
Determine number of sent and received messages.
Filter options: Within a date range, to/from specific person, etc.
Trends: Whom I’m messaging most and who is messaging me the most.
Cost calculation based on plan but to be override-able for any given month.
Suggestions welcome!
there is hs++ wich, among many others, have option of counting sent and recived mesages
but i like your idea
to list of features i`d suggest to add
autoresponse (to contacts from adress book when i cannot answer or read message or recive call)
setting message to send at precise time
PowerSMS is one such software. But it is not a freeware.
www.trinketsoftware.com
of course i know PowerSMS
it also has a lot more cool features
but, as you mentioned, it`s not freeware

And it has it's own limitations too. For e.g. I would prefer a graphical chart when I'm seeing statistics, this is something which I would like to incorporate in my own app.
Yet, it seems the response for this is pretty much zero and people are not very keen to have this application.
I like the Idea of the statistics (with chart! ) sounds funny to know who gets the most sms from me (and to see who don't linke me and never or seldom sends me sms back )
I think the features are okay for now keep it as simple as possible
is it going to work in the background ? i mean consume memory and cpu power all time.
i am looking for a call time and sms counter, something simple that i can reset every month (maybe even with an option to reset automatically at a given date each month).
it was built in with my sony erricson T650 and maybe any other phone. but nothing simple at the diamond (havnt seen any sms counter built in).

No, it's not going to work in the background, the user will have the option to manually update stats after he starts the program or they will be calculated automatically when the program starts; whichever the user prefers.

Whats about a "constant" statistic, that shows the statistic from begining, and we can seperate in to monthly? So we can see in wich month we texted the most? And we could use the overall stats to calculate an wich (week)day we send the most sms

You mean maitaining the statistics cumulatively? I don't see how that's possible with the 'reset' option. When a users resets the data, all previous stats are lost and that's its exact purpose. Though, feell free to correct me if i'm wrong and explain what you want in detail, possibly with an example. Thanks,

Like in the car. you have a constant counter of your km/miles, and a "small" one for the time you go to refuel.
so lets say, I want to know how many sms I send since I load my prepaid card (but also a constant statistic )
small counter/reset function = time since reload the prepaid-card / refuel the car
background (full)statistic = overalltime statistic with monts/(week)day stats / km/miles since you bought the car
hope thats make my sugesstion clear

I think its simple, just use two counters: one is "resetable" the other is not.
i guess it means double the data and double the reading/writing cycles but im sure there is a way to optimise it with simple procedure.

Leo Build-in calculator Need help

eh i want to ask u ppl.
how come when i use the calculator
e.g i press ==> 18.90-10%= it give me 18.80
did i press wrongly?
Yes, that is "correct". "Correct" in quotes because "percent" really just means "one-hundredths", so 10% is exactly equal to 0.1.
Other calculators might decide to interpret it differently, but the operation 18.9 - 10% = 18.8 is still a technically correct answer. You might want to try 18.9 * 90% instead.
omg...

Well. I'll be blowed, didn't know it done that!!! Only had the phone a few days
The % was incorrect also; 100-20%=99.8??? How strange
In portrait mode the calculator operates as a business calculator, but in landscape mode it works as a scientific calculator.
To demonstrate this enter the following exactly as written into your calculator in both modes:
3 + 2 * 5
In portrait mode it will give 25 as the result, whereas in scientific mode it will give 13 as the result. Both are correct in context. In scientific mode it will use operand precedence - hence the multiplication will be carried out before the addition if it's not used with parenthesis.
For the OP's original question, the correct result will be obtained if you divide the original sum by the (percentage plus 1) you wish to deduct. e.g for 10% use 1.1 for 17.5% use 1.175 ... and so on.
So to deduct 10% (say as a discount) from 18.90 then type in 18.90 divided by 1.1 to give the result 17.181818r
Conversely to add on a markup multiply the net amount by the percentage value plus one.
Simples!

mate, now I know maths isn't the greatest subject in the states... but all of you?
ok, j/k
2% = the second part out of one hundrer = 0.02... hope this is clear
so if you press 2% and then equals, you'll get 0.02, which is correct
if you try, 100-20%, you will get 99.8, which is correct again. if you want to get 0.8, then you have to use the brackets (100-20)%
and i case you didn't know it yet, what % does is to devide the number to 100... obviously
and since, in the equation 100-20% (which really is 100-20/100), the division has a greater priority, that's the operation that comes first...
