Today Screen - new Tabs? - Touch Cruise 2 General

Hi,
I am quite new to the Iolite (as i had till the day before yesterday still a Prophet) and have to say that i am quite happy with it except that the new today screen (TouchFlo, Manila? TF2D?) is disappointing compared to HTC Home...
After doing some research on the net i found someone who added (at least) a calender tab to the Home Screen and now i would like to ask if there are people here who know if it is possible to add any custom tabs of which the content is programmable (quite like plugins for the old HTC Home. Say i made a C# app that is being run in the Tab and shows certain information or something similar).
From what i read this seems not doable although i am simply unsure about it as there is some custom(?) calender tab out there...
In the end this is the only thing i so far miss on the Iolite since HTC Home just gives me shell errors and there are things i really would like to have with only few keystrokes to see...

I don't know about custom tabs on manila(but it lacks on customization), but I can suggest you a freeware alternative to touchflo UI that can satisfy your needs and it's highly customizabe, especially if you know how to program, cause you can create plugins(if the available are not satisfy you) that meet your needs. If you're interesting take a look here:

Thanks! That thing looks exactly like what i was searching for!

Manilla or TF3DHDB2

There are two parallel projects to port HTC's Touchflo 3d to X1:
itje's Manilla:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442154
and
Daran Clarkes TF3DHDB2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428351
For people who have tried both please vote which has your preference at the current states of build.
Seeing as I'm 100% sure that people who vote have just tried -one- of the ports and comment on that one.
The poll isn't called "which one did you install" it's meant to be a review of both. As these builds get better and better we need a source for newbs as to how the ports differ.
So if you can post some differences that you found between the two ports.
PS: I have both an X1 and a Touch HD for comparison.
1. Manilla
Plus
-Works fast, quick to install.
Minus
-Needs around 10 individual .cabs to work.
-Album doesn't work out of the box
-Audio doesn't work out of the box
-The system highlights have been changed into black / black. Whereas on teh original HD Touch HD the highlight (new sms indicator), clock highlights, comms highlights are neon green.
-The clockface is black instead of the original white.
-Camera and video icons don't work on the album screen.
-Some lockups now and again.
2. TF3DHDB2
Plus
-One main .cab
-4 add-ons
-All aspects of touchflo 3d work out of the box.
I.e. Camera and video icons work on album screen, system highlights are the correct colour, as is the clock.
-Really in comparing to my HD system speed is almost identical, i.e. I can't tell any difference. Launching youtube is slightly faster on the X1, browsers opening from the internet tab is slightly faster on the HD. Weather updates are 1:1, etc. This is all out of the box hard reset, i.e. no file or glyph tweaks yet.
Minus
-Relatively long time to install
The main difference between a real Touch HD and the above two builds is remains obviously the speed of loading the OS into a useable state after a cold start. The HD is pretty much quickly useable whereas on the X1 we have to wait for the TouchFlo3D to load.
For reference, my setup is (after hard reset):
-Touchflo3D HD Beta 2
-HTC Phone.cab
-HTC Volume.cab
-Touch IT Keyboard.cab
-FM Radio HD app
-Snailslug TouchResponse (to get the small vibration jolts when you touch the screen like on the real HD)
-All annoying windows mobile SMS balloons disabled (see thread), sms now works identical to HD.
I disabled all the panels apart from the one you can't turn off as I don't really use them. Why have a youtube or google panel if selecting these from the internet tab works 6x faster.
Lets hear people who have actually used both builds comment on their experiences.
I'm a noob, about to get an Xperia in a few days and would like to put the touchFLO interface on it. I am also confused as to which one of the two to go with.
I'm not so interested with how long or hard it is to install, I'm mainly interested in how complete and reliable it is, with speed/performance a second priority.
It appears from you're post that Manilla is the one to do for, Though I was under the impression from another post that I saw that the other version was better. I'm very confused and frustrated having to research pages of posts outlining individual bugs with each versions, trying to see which is more complete.
I would also rather TouchFLO as a panel, can this be done with both versions? or one in particular
I like the summary you have provided of both versions, I find very helpful. I am looking forward to anything other users have to say about both versions.

You mean probably TF3DHDB2 not Manilla.
Yes you can run as a panel, you need TF3DPanelInstaller.cab. First install the main TF3DB2.cab, then install panel. Basically TF3DB2.cab installs itself as your home panel. You need to follow the instructions for panelising it, I believe you need to uncheck the touchflo3d on the today panel items, before you install but I'm not sure, check with someone else. Also check if TF3DHDB2 can run as a panel or if it's just Manilla that works with the panelinstaller.cab, I'm unsure. Hell you could try it and tell us.
Don't get frustrated, I got my X1 just last week and figured all this stuff out on my own. Basically what helped me was running through the two threads above. TF3DB2.cab is the one to go for. It's almost as fast as my Touch HD, apart from album and audio, that remains faster on my HD. Although I do hear Daran is coming out with TF3DB3 next week? That should finish this whole port off.
But if you just want to start, hard reset your X1 and load the files I run (listed above), there you go, weeks of looking through threads resolved.
PS: All the apps I listed there is only one version from, usually listed on the front page (post 1) of both threads linked above.
Hi all,
you can panelize TF3DHDB2 works fine for me
i chose manilla simply because TF3DB2 kept freezing on me, i had to remove the battery to restart 2-3 times a day
i installed manilla 2 days ago and no freezes whatsoever.
i dont mind not having pics and music cause i use the media panel for those which is MUCH better.
id just like to see someone incorporate tf3d tabs that rotate or disable the roate option cause anything is better than hose ugly lines that appear when the screen is rotated
itje, daran's project seems not well supported. itje released a great rom with tf3d working out of the box and fix issues very quickly
I've tried both, and thought the HD one was faster.
My vote goes to TF3DHDB2 simply because A2DP works in it and this is essential for me.

[Ideas] Windows Application Skinings [Long - Rant Material]

Hey guys,
I've hadmy HD a while and think it is by far one of the better phones I've used. Though like many reviewers and people have said the interface could do with a face-lift of sorts.
It just occured to be that maybe this would give the HD more appeal and with XDA being the largest resource of designers and coders for Windows I don't see why it can't be done.
Basically here are a few of my ideas, not all of them are applicable and I'm not a programmer as such and nor do I know the major workings of Windows mobile and I know there are alternative applications for these things but some of us just want a new skin not a new program.
Ok let the ideas flow:
SMS/MMS: This one I truly find depressing. I don't feel there is a need for a seperate program but if someone could just skin the display it would make sending messages that extra bit more 'entertaining'. I know people here dislike the iPhone I don't blame them but just have bubbles around threaded messages could really make a difference and improve communication. If I recall a lot of these edits can be doen through XML files. I've seen a cab which increases the size of the message box so it looks like atleast some change is possible. So adding more colour and imgry I think would be of benifit here.
Calendar/Tasks: Both I feel could do with a major new modelling but I use Calendar Touch so I've found my alternative. Though I think just making the display match Outlook on the PC a bit more of just making the buttons and fields bigger if possible would make the applucation more usable.
WMPlayer: I've tried MortPlayer and Pocket Player, the former crashed my HD as it wouldn't unistall so I had to hard-reset and the latter I left was good but just needed to appear more complete (some menus didn't match the styling of the player skin - also very confusing to use at times). Enter good old WMP, I enjoy using the skins already available, but the menus are still small and the fact I have to click the song then 'Play' I think is backwards, where on earth is double click! Is it possible to skin the menu to be bigger and look more user friendly?
These are obviously my thoughts and opinions but what I'm look/hoping for is for someone to code something that modifies these problems. Ofcourse this is open to discussion and people please do discuss.
haha, I had the exact same idea. I thought of some htc style cover for the wm interface and new apps for sms, notes, calendar etc.
going to move my thread to this section, will probably get more attention.
WONDERFUL!
It's good to see people with on a similair though pattern.
Any views, opinions or ideas?

Titanium Plugins: Tasks & RSS?

I'm loving all the new today screen options we have these days, but sometimes I feel like we're missing the basics- on my old today screen (before Manilla came out) I always had my basic active tasks, calendar, and RSS feed available, which I considered invaluable.
When Manilla came out, I had hopes of an RSS and/or tasks tab, but sadly it appears HTC overlooked it and did not really encourage much development for TouchFlo3D.
I have new hopes with Titanium, especially because I see favorite people and weather plugins being developed and released here! Technically, the weather plugins are very similar to an RSS feed, that should be very possible. And the tasks- well, if someone is able to access the contacts data, I'm sure this too is possible!
Is there anyone who may be able to help?
Yes an RSS reader would be beneficial actually.
I would like to see a tasks panel myself! It would come of great use to me. Thanks for voicing your opinion out, as i didnt know how to word/encourage other developers to maybe try to create one
Check the excalibur forum, I think I remember someone making a tasks panel already and a stocks panel. It will take some searching probably since it was a while back. May need a little updating to work just right with 6.5
Excalibur? The smartphone edition device?
I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing- I'm talking about the new 6.5 Titanium home screen from MS, not the classic today screen plugins (that are sadly becoming extinct due to all the flashy today themes that are all the rage).
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how a plugin for a smartphone device not running 6.5 has anything to do with it... there ARE classic plugins that do exactly what I'm talking about, but Titanium is a whole new breed and requires some new plugins to be coded.
Anyone want to help get this process started?
We definitely need a tasks WM6.5 panel. If you look at the Calendar panel, it scrolls through your appointments. This is exactly the way a tasks panel should work! Cmon someone please make one!!!

titanium has been out for a long time in smartphones (6.5 just brought it to the touch screen variants of winmo)
What he is saying is that it was made for smarphones, so all the code should be there, it may just need a couple adjustments.
+1 to this.
I would love a tasks plugin and RSS would be nice too.

Ah, yes, the whole NEO interface thing introduced on the Shadow, right?
I was under the impression that the new Titanium on professional edition devices was a new breed- I was not aware that anyone had ported plugins from one to the next.
I've started working on a Titanium Tasks application, but I haven't pushed forward because I know the updated 6.5 SDK should be available on launch day (May 11th.)
I'd be happy to go back at it if there really is interest (and it seems there is), or collaborate with others to work on it. My strengths are primarily C# on the .NET Framework.

check this out.

I agree, an RSS plugin would be really beneficial.
For example, I'm going to Cornwall soon for surfing and have found a RSS feed containing surf reports for all the local hot spots with conditions and reports.
A simple RSS feed would allow me to see these details right from the today screen.
Surely, writing such a plugin would not be so hard?
Well, is please actualy a some RSS plugin for Titanium?
For tasks try taskanium

Im using it right now, but it still not proper RSS reader, because here you can have only 1 channel in one moment.

Some initial thoughts on the TD2

Generally I'm impressed - the onscreen keyboard is really quite useable, and that's coming from someone who also owns a TP.
Anyway, one or two minor annoyances....
1) When replying to an SMS, you can no longer see how many characters you've typed in order to stay within the 160 character limit. But then my tarrif allows way more texts than I use so it's not a big deal.
2) In Cash Organizer, while editing a transaction, it's virtually impossible to change the year of the transaction's date. This may be only an issue with Cash Organizer, but it does look like Cash Organizer uses a standard calendar widget, so maybe other apps might also be affected. This one is infuriating, I must ask Inesoft about it.
3) No built-in rotation of Excel - I like looking at spreadsheets in landscape. I can live with it, but if there's a TD2 app that'll get it working, that'd be great.
4) The Tasks app seems to get covered in screen-garbage when you scroll down, but I use OPTasks anyway because of the Tasks app's inability to filter out tasks with a future start date, so not a big deal. Curious though!
5) No Facebook Integration with contacts, as seen in early product demos. This is quite disappointing but I'm sure a ROM update or installable CAB will pop up on HTC's support site in good time. Again, I can live without it.
I am very much liking the new Start menu though, it makes it really easy to swap between apps without having to go back to the home screen and use the task manager/programs tab - the old Start menu just didn't hold enough icons. Generally it's a lot slicker and menus are easier to use - you don't really need the stylus.
I've signed up to the My Phone Beta trial and that works nicely except it doesn't synchronize Notes yet.
I've fixed the no-landscape-manila issue with TF3D2 Tweak, but to be honest now I can do it, it seems a bit pointless! Never mind.
I had a big problem with Tomtom (don't we all?), it wouldn't work at all until I used the version posted on this site, and then Tomtom Home said it was an invalid version so it's not very happy. I've asked Tomtom for a new activation code for my maps so hopefully I can get them working soon. Obviously I don't know yet if the voice is clipping like it is will you guys.
Not much else to report.....I notice JetCet printing has vanished but it was pretty useless anyway, no driver for my Canon Pixma 610. No real issues with the WVGA screen not being compatible with anything either.
Opera seems to be a slightly newer version than the stock TP ROM, as is the Youtube app and I'm sure plenty of others too.
Really looking forward to my FREE WinMo 6.5 upgrade later in the year!
Cheers!

There is also no rotation avaliable in Word which is a big bummer. It is easier to type with the larger keyboard when you rotate the screen. There must be a fix for this???
Have you tried G-Config to add to the list of apps that rotate? Works well on the diamond.

Fortunately all the things you mention are software and ROM related. So they all can be (and will be?) solved in time.
If you would have problems with the device itself, that would be difficult to change...
Another quibble - often when texting your words go into a small box and you can't see all the text to be able to review it without fiddling about.

Review: Infinity UI with my HTC Touch Pro2 (WM6.5)

Acknowledgement: Infinity is in a very early development stage,it's not yet a finished application, this review doesnt reflect the final completed software, the purpose of this review is to let devolopers and would-be users to contribute ideas in order to make final completed software more perfect.
please see full review with pictures in the following link:
http://forum.ageye.de/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1461&p=7600#p7600
The Infinity v0.2.1 is apparently not compatible with WM6.5 very well, I even cannot set background picture for the desktop,so there must be some buttons missing.
Generally it looks very promising, compared to Touchflo 3D,it’s much more customizable, you can put any shortcuts and widgets in anywhere of the desktop, this is the feature millions are looking for;Compare to SPB Mobile Shell, the Infinity looks very similar but more agile and you can set everything neat and usable immediately.
Like SPB Mobile Shell, the Ageye Infinity let you do two most important things:
One,you put all your most important shortcuts and widgets on the desktop,NOTE any location of the desktop. While for Touchflo 3D,you basically cannot do much about the desktop, this sucks badly and I am suffercating every time I see Touchflo 3D.
Two,you put less important or less frequently used shortcuts in Favorite Folder (in SPB Mobile Shell,it’s called Launcher,in Infinity,it’s the middle button I saw when I tested it in my HTC Pro2 with WM6.5 rom).
As I didn’t see the Infinity Manual,it took me about 15 minutes to figure out how to use it, I should say it’s more or less close to SPB Mobile Shell when it comes to customization of desktop and Favorite Folder.
The difference is,for example, you want to place Contacts in the desktop, first you need to add “Shortcut” in the desktop, this Shortcut is an empty icon, then you click on this Shortcut icon to find the path of the Contacts.
If you are interested to try out Infinity v0.2.1,please download(probably need registration):
http://forum.ageye.de/viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1369
Install to your main memory, then in programs you can find a Infinity program icon, click to run.
Suggestions to developers:
1. how to set the background for desktop, the default background is not-so-good-looking,there is no button that can set this, please update based on WM6.5.
2. where is the general configuration? How to set Infinity to replace Today? How to change language? How to set the number of pages of desktop?
3. how to change the size of icons in the desktop? In SPB Mobile Shell,it got this feature, you can make the icon small, big, professional, transparent etc etc.
4. about the right and left soft key configuration,it seems that the option is very limited, can we assign any programs and widgets for the right and left soft key?
5. For Infinity own widgets, I suggest you to add Task Manager, this is most often used tool,In addition,if we can put this Task Manager in the right soft key, that will be very convenient! I saw SPB Mobile Shell has a great Task Manager widget, users can use Shell extension tool to put it beside the Launcher.
Looking forward to your great update soon!

Exactly! And it's already pretty amazing.
This UI seems to be alot like PointUI.. I dont know a lot about coding but it seems like a very early version of the same UI
I dont doubt that it is entirely different that's just my two cents from screen shots of Infinity.
Pointui you can use tons and tons of different themes and wigets etc as well.
ie:Pointui Sense, Nexus One, Mac OS... the list really is endless.
Just some food for thought. If you like Infinity you should definaly give pointui a try. That said...... if you're the developer and just trying to spread the word about Infinity.. My bad! I looks promising!

It's not really like PointUI - it doesn't crash as often
No, I've tried (bought) PointUI and other than the PointSense theme (which has been abandoned by its developer) there's nothing much about PointUI to get excited about Add to that the fact that PointUI hasn't seen an update from its developers in a very long time...
I think that Infinity shows more promise than both SPB Mobile Shell and PointUI combined. People are forgetting that what they've seen so far is only an ALPHA version!
About the task manager, try to press on the top bar...
