Turn on WIFI via side button - Wing, P4350 General

Is this possible? I know you can get to comm manager by pressing a side key, but is it possible to directly turn on wifi? I'm sorry if this has been asked somewhere else, i couldn't find it, even with search
ps. Under comm manager there is data connection (using OT7.7), if it's off does it disable gprs/edge?
I've read that by deleting the tmobile data connection from settings>Connections>connections it will disable gprs or edge anyway right? So the setting in comm manager does not really matter?
Thank you guys so much before hand. I know you guys are busy. Just a noob trying to get along. You guys are probably the reason i got a wing

solved
Nevermind, solved using this program and assigning to side buttons

Thanks anyway guys. keep up the good work.

Call to Devs.

Would someone be so kind as to whip up a little app for me that toggles WiFi status? I would be ever so grateful.
I know that there are methods to map setting to hardware button but I want to map the Comm button to auto-toggle WiFi when I tap it instead of the annoyance of going to the Comm manager when I only use it to turn on/off WiFi.
Actually, what would be even _better_ is if someone could find a way to force the device to auto-start a WiFi connection the way it tries to with GPRS since I do not have a data plan.
Search for VJVolubilis from Vijay in the forum, it works great !
Not quite, but nearly. But there's a reg post towards the end of the thread that does get wifi working on the wizard.

GPRS Problems on the 8125 any help please?

Hello all,
First off, I'd like to say this site is definitely a great place to look at cool tips and tricks.
Ok, on to my problem. I was having problems with my gprs connection being on all the time no matter what. I'd hangup a call and it would automatically connect. I realized I had an idea how to fix it, when I went to go create a new connection, I couldnt use my old connection's name, even though they was deleted. So I opened PHM Regedit, did a quick search and found the old connection Cingular GPRS. I deleted both entries that I found for Cingular GPRS and a few other keys.
Now, the Gprs never comes on which is good, but the bad part, when I access opera, PIE, livesearch, googlemaps, tomtom, or anything else, it does not try to connect to Gprs and says internet is not working.
I have a cingular 8125 and when I go into the comm manager, and click wifi settings, and click network cards, normally I had like the internet, and work to pick from the drop down, now it's a blank drop down and Im 99% sure that's where my problem lies. if anyone could assist me in getting the gprs working again without doing a hard reset, hell I'll take an export of your registry if I can read it on my homepc, Ill swift through and find what i deleted or anything. Any help would be appreciated, the last thing I want is to format.
I figured xda developers having their own roms and whatnot can give me some awesome needed help, I haven't had internet for about 24 hours, I never even knew how much I used it.
Oh yeah, I know it's that drop down bar because even when connected to wifi it wont work.
Thanks in advance guys!

When you deleted the Cingular GPRS key, you wiped out your internet settings. I'm sorry to say, but a hard re-set needs to be done, because the key you deleted has several decimal, binary, & string values with assigned data to each value. Ask for help before trying to fix yourself especially if you're not sure what you're doing...

Stickiness with Internet Connection

Hi Guys,
All I want is when I close my Explorer the Internet connection will turn off too, And not do it manually through the comm manager
Does anyone find a way?
Alon
you can hold the red botton to close connection
go to settings-system-long press end kay
i dont think there is another way (maybe by regester)
Hi,
You can always put a timeout on the data connection as explained here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1248449&postcount=7
Works good enough for me.

Looking for the Reg Edit. for WiFi always on

....since PPCgeeks is down, can someone help me out with this? I'm using this with the 10 button Comm. manager so I can switch WiFi On/Off using the WiFi button in the Comm. manager. Thanks alot!
i think as long as the hardware switch is on wifi is on
AFAIK theres no way to bypass the hardware switch and have it on when the switch is off
ETA: i would actually want the opposite, have it off by default (with switch on) then turn it on with software when i need it
I improperly worded my OP. What I meant was, while hardware switch is ON, I would be able to toggle ON/OFF via comm. manager. I had this previous to updating my ROM. It was a reg. edit I found on PPCgeeks. Currently, with the hardware switch ON, I'm not able to toggle WLAN since the button has an X. I understading what you're saying though defaultdotxbe.
ah, gotcha, sorry i dont know the answer
interestingly, it seems not all programs need this reg edit, im able to use spb phone suite to toggle wifi on and off with no modifications (unless phone suite does the red edit on its own) its worked on roms 2.08, 2.17 and 3.16

No Data Connection after flashing!!

Hey guys, i have flashed to a few ROMs in the past and my phone would always give me the trouble of no data connection. My tmobile wing is hard spl and running currently on papa's black diamond. whenever i tried to go to the comm manager to activate the data connection, it just wont turn on while other buttons i have no problem turning on such as wlan and bluetooth.
i've also tried launching internet but it just says there's no data connection and ask me to go to settings. i still can make calls but just completely no data connections. i have also soft resetted it several time and no luck. =/
help would be great!
ps. i've looked up several other threads with the same problem, however, theres really nothing under connections except add new so it didnt help much.

I think you have to use the Network Wizard. If it is not in that rom, can install it using the cab, it's should be around this forum.
thanks live! but i'm not sure which network wizard cab file works and which doesnt.. so a friend helped me set it up manually. thanks though!!

What, have you heard that question before?
Ryan
yes my fone is having the same problem and now i cant flash to a new rom
i flashed for the first time yesterday, and had the same problem. just call tmobile and tell them somehow your data connection information has deleted, and they will run u through what to put in the fields. and don't forget to go to the network wizard, to make sure its on the right network.
Same problem except it WAS working (my gprs/edge) until I added my first wlan entry.. of my apartment's wifi which works. But after I was done using it i turned the wlan off from comm manager and expected to see the big E for edge and instead just see the two arrows with the little x under it. I can no longer connect to gprs/edge. If i open the internet explorer to view a page, it flashes a "G" with the arrows like it's trying to connect forever. At that point it will not even let me make or receive calls until I reboot the ppc. Network wizard won't fix it as I've already tried, twice... no change. My data connection for T-mobile is set up already under "connections tab" but it just doesn't work. My best guess is something has gone wrong in the registry... but as much as I've searched for this kind of problem I find nothing... just stuff how to fix wlan problems. btw, i'm on tmobile. Oh, it won't even activesync if my wlan is off now... I have to enable the wlan and let it connect to my home network... and THEN it will go through activesync without error. This is nuts, I already hard resetted once because of this and now it's the same story. Maybe it's just a prob with the opentouch 6.5 nofrills version that's just basic and let's the users add their own apps.
