NEWBIE: Prevent Sleep mode loosing SD Card connection? - JASJAR, XDA Exec, MDA Pro General

I got my HTC Universal yesterday, hence the newbie tag, feel free to point me at any wiki or faq that will help me, my first most pressing issue is that if the phone sleeps (i.e. left for a few minutes in battery mode) it forgets that the SD card is inserted and after waking it i have to eject and reinsert. I can live with reinserting after a restart or soft reset but this is really annoying. How can i get around it?
Edit Solved : Turned out to be a dodgy SD card and nothing wrong with the HTC!

Welcome to the forum
Try to install Advanced Config, with that app you can turn of the disable sleep mode for SD but your battery will suffer the consequences, I have not that problem
Good luck,
And dont forget to vote!

I've figured out how to turn on/off sleep mode now and have got the hang of that but it'd still be great for it to auto-detect the SD card on waking from sleep, even if i have to run a tiny teeny app (via shortcut!) to force it to notice it, instead of having to physically unclick, wait, click, wait to use the sd card.
To conserve power i basically keep it in standby 90% of the time - as i don't use it as a phone - so this is actually a bit annoying.

Have you tried changing the SD-Type in Settings\System\SD Settings?

There is no "SD Settings" in Settings/System
(Windows Mobile 5.0
Version 5.1.159
Build (14847.2.0.0))

Do you use a SDHC Card?
install a sdhc driver may solve the problem

No, normal SD card

Bluetooth Settings take ages to Show

:?:
Hi,
- something that's irritated me for a while now but I've never posted on it before:
I only turn bluetooth on when I need it. When I click the bluetooth tray icon, the settings screen takes ages to show. The close icon in the top right of the screen shows (as if it's partially loaded) but it takes 10-30 seconds for the remainder of the screen to show.
Is there an explanation for this behaviour - I can't find any similar topics on the matter. Anyway round it..?
cheers
lstocky
I have also experienced this... from what I have found it mostly happens after switching on the device... sometimes it can take serval minutes for bluetooth setings to show!!
I have narrowed it down to the sd card... if you remove your sd card then the problem goes away!!
Upgrading to the 1.72 rom seems to have made this a lot better now, I only have to wait no more than 4 secs...
Merlin
SD card and new ROM
Upgrading to the new ROM certainly improved things. I hadn't thought about removing the SD card.
If I use the 'Ultraprofiler' and select the appropriate profile i.e. flight/normal it shuts down/starts up the radio really quickly so I do it that way sometimes.
It's just that I make a habit of turning it off before I go to bed so that it isn't draining the battery all night - don't suppose it uses much power mind.

Diable switch when inserting a memory card

Hi,
is there a menu setting or registry change I can apply to stop my MDAc from switching on when I insert or remove the SD memory card?
Cheers
Not really me thinks. But you can use the SD Switcher posted earlier elsewhere to disable the SD card until needed. Saves your battery (apparently) and prevents genital warts. However, after testing, inserting an SD card just re-enables the slot and still switches it on.
There is a more heavy duty registry based solution I think, but I don't recommend it.

hmmm,
The Problem is that whenever I remove the SD Card and re-insert, tomtom resets all my POI settings, are am I barking up the wrong tree here?

Storage Card Removed Error

Most of my software is stored on my mini SD card. If my device has been in sleep mode for some time, I get a "storage card has beem removed" error if I have left an app open. Alternatively, if I haven't left an ap open, it takes some time after waking the device before the apps on the storage card work properly.
I have been assuming that some sort of power manager on the Wizard kicks in to turn the storage card off - is this correct or do I have some sort of fault?
If it is correct, is there any way to make the storage card wake up faster when I turn the device on? [at the moment, if I am impatient, I remove and reinsert the card - which seems to work - but can't be a terribly good thing to do].
Many thanks
Chris
I am running into the same problem, if anyone has any suggestions please let us know.

Dopod 818 pro problems

Any experience the following and have answers to them?
1) Slow loadup of Keypad option (2-5 secs)
It that a "THOROUGH" Hard-reset will solve the problem.
No Registry settings or software will help.
With the fix, the load up still slower than the ATOM....
2) Slow toggle between the 3 tabs in the setting menu.
3) Bluetooth file transfers frequently abort with errors
4) Intermittent Screen Alignment issues. (Especially upon switch on)
I haven't had any of those problems. Every now and then it will hang for a second or two, but that's usually with 3 or 4 apps open and it is literally just a second or two slowdown. One of the things I did right after a hard reset was the WM5 performance enhancements that can be found here:
http://www.trendsmobile.com/main/showsection.asp?SectionID=96
This seemed to speed things up quite a bit.
Settings not Saved.
It seems that "Battery Power" Settings under the Backlight section does not get register after a soft reset.
The settings I'm referring to are " Turn off backlight if device is not used for XX mins"
In addition, Under the Advanced tab of the Power Section, "Turn off device if not used for xx mins" the settings are also lost after a soft reset.

my 818pro has a few problems
1) Auto reset without warning
2) SD card occasionally cannot be detected [ soft reset to get it work again ]
3) Activesync sometimes causes ppcphone to hang
4) Wifi sometimes cannot turn on

818Pro Problem
Yes, I also encountered that SD card cannot be detected or disappeared sometimes! It was quite strange!!
Auto reset without warning

3) ActiveSync sometimes causes ppcphone to hang
4) Wifi sometimes cannot turn on
I am also got such problems, if I install the process monitor and GPRS monitor software such as HandySwitcher, and SPB monitor, the phone sometimes will auto reset without any action, if didn't install, I didn't find this problem( I am not sure)
Usual SD card cna't be detected. Sometimes, when I turn on the phone, (not restart), the SD card disappeared, I try to reinsert the card, ok, card appeared, but sometimes, I must restart the phone then the problem can be solved.
I don't know the problem is hardware or software issues, anybody know it? If this is hardware issues? I think maybe no way to solve it lo!!!!! Maybe the Dopod can call them back?HOHOHOOHOHO

yes, i also encounter that problems...
for no.1, the salesman said that the ROM isn't stable enough... so, i must wait for the stable ROM...
no.2, even i use a SD card that supplied with my 818pro [Dopod, 1 GB], it's still sometimes can't be detected, even after plug-unplug the SD card...
no.3, the ActiveSync also sometimes launched itself, even it's not used during my sleep..., after i wake up, the activesync is launched itself... :x
but, for no.4 [wifi] i don't have a problem...
is there any answer for the problems that WE have???
thx...
Re Dopod 818 Problem
My dopod has a problem on wifi & call drop ( signal ). My wifi absolutely gone now... before it was work.

device couldn't wake up after turning to sleep mode

I just got AMEO from T mobile which I believe the same as HTC advantage.
despite of being SIM locked by T-mobile, I am experiencing another problem in waking up the device after it goes into sleep mode.
After I left the device idle for few minutes, it turn the whole screen off. (not only the back lit).
I can see the LED for BT/wifi still blinking.
But no matter which button I press, it couldn't be turn on at all.
As final resolve, I have to soft reset the device every time after it sleep!!!
Can some experts here advise me? is it a defective unit? or some other settings are wrong? Do I need to return it to the vendor?
I don't want to keep the device always on by disabling the auto off feature in power setting either.
Does someone have the same problem like me?
Thanks for any advise in advance.
What happens if you put it on the keyboard while "asleep"? Even if it means taking it off there first.
If doing that and pushing the power button fail to turn it on, it's a defective unit.
it's the same problem even i attach it to the keyboard.
a bit funny though, if i press the power button from the side to turn it off. I won't have any problem to turn it on.
but if i leave it to auto off mode, then i can't turn it on until resetting it from the back hole.
can it be improved if I flash to other ROM?
My Ameo does it occasionally - I find that (re)attaching the keyboard tends to bring it out of sleep better than pressing the power button. I get the impression that by pressing the power button, it sometimes gets confused that its still on and tries to turn itself off (even when it is already off). Tends to lead to a reboot every few days though. Waiting (fingers x'd) for WM6 to see if it behaves better.
do you guys have this option
settings>button>lock
try to toggle the checkbox to see if it helps
I'll try it! I found it under Settings/System Tab, 'Key Lock' icon.
I'll report back within the week.
I can confirm that it doesn't help my AMEO.
anyway, thank for your thought.

To digital:
can I ask for a favor from you. could you try to make the device auto power off without sim card in.
and see whether u will have the exact problem i have or more frequent it dead...
due to my unit is locked to T mobile network, i still haven't put any sim card in.
Tried it without simcard in but it still turns on ok after the fix. TBH, sounds like you're getting the issue more than me - mine only does it occasionally (once every couple-3days) and as yet, I've not managed to locate a consistent cause. I'll keep my eye on it though with the fix and let you all know how I get on.
the other thing that i can think of out of at the moment is that you are running some prog from the sd card/microdrive in the background so when you try to switch your device on then it does not get started and hence the problem...
try tweaks2k (you can use the trial version)
it has a bunch of settings for this... (just check that it is compatible with ameo first)
install 'screenoff' and assign to one of the button.
it works fine.
have to make work around like this now. no idea why this problem only happen to my AMEO...
anyway, thanks for all of u!

I have a similar problem. My device does not wake up in one case from 10 approximately.
Frequency of occurrence of a problem decreases if to close the phone's program compulsorily.
In other branch to me have told, that the problem can be because of the Active Sink's program. Have allowed advice to disconnect automatic start of this program. But I cannot check up because my program all the same is started if to switch off an option of the automatic device. :-(
hard reset can solve the problem completely. ;-)
I'm pleased to say that the 'button' tweak posted here has worked... So far!
Thanks Gents (and lasses if there are any).
That happened to me too yesterday.
I hard reset it and reinstalled everything to microdrive now. (trying to eliminate the possiblity of compaction thread) Removed SPB Pocket plus, which I've come to be quite suspecious by now. Also removed true VGA. So far I have not got a single freeze yet, touch wood. If it runs okay for a few more weeks with no freezing, will put back true VGA and see how it goes again. Will try to isolate the offending software bit by bit.
Hi,
I've had the same problem with my Advantage
After some weeks of test i have found how to solve the problem on my Advantage. perhaps it's only works on mine but you can try.
i have installed "all" progs on memory and not on microdrive. on microdrive i have only a few exe like wififofum or progs not intend to run when i turn my Athena off.
then no more problem waking up my athena.
I think the problem could be that microdrive cause a time out or thing like this when we wake up the PDA then athena freeze waiting about datas from microdrive.
then for me now it's programs like browsers, sscontact, traylaunchers etc .. => memory
programs like painting tool, etc ... => microdrive and close (kill process) them before sleep mode.
and all is ok now for me. The only freeze in 1 week was Pocket IE freezing (but the reason is pocket IE sucks)
There was actually another point that I forgot to mention concerning the freezing. I found out that the free miniSD card came with the bonus pack was actually faulty. With the pocket mechanic professional benchmark, I managed to see only less than 200kb/s read and write! I did a hard reset, and installed everything on microdrive, and touch wood, I have not got a single reset or freezing yet these two days. I install nothing into memory, as we all know that it takes up to 2 seconds to write a block of data into NOR ROM, which is why we should always shift our directory of IE cookies/history/cache away from the main memory. Since the main memory (NOR ROM) is good for executing program in place but terrible in writing, Microsoft's MikeCal thinks we should not keep any data there. (See this thread: http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/03/16/552996.aspx ). I try to keep the memory as free as possible to minimise compaction thread kikcing in. Will see how it goes in the next couple of weeks and take on from there.
I'm happy to confirm that, after a weeks testing, the button 'fix' seems to have resolved the issue! Thanks all.
I have been experiencing similar problems.
After being left on standby for a period of time (>10mins), the unit sometimes goes into "autistic" mode.
i.e:
Power button does not function. Unit GSM light flashes, but will not resume from sleep.
I've tried the following:
Attaching USB cable. No change.
Attaching keyboard. No change.
Calling phone. No change.
Soft reset. Starts ok.
I have now tried:
Settings/System/Key Lock
- set to 'Do not lock buttons'
However, I suspect ActiveSync.
The unit was attempting to Sync every 5 minutes, while connected with a USB cable. I therefore followed advise (read elsewhere) to create a dummy server to allow an ActiveSync schedule to be created, then deleted.
http://www.modaco.com/index.php?showtopic=246522
This is coincident with the start of the problem.

I had same problem once I enabled Key Lock function.
However, once I disable key lock, it works fine again.
