Howto Unlock
How do i remove my simlock from my htc magic. Is there special hardware equipment needed.
I understand that the simlock mechanism is separate from the firmware mechanism.
Can somebody give met technical details?

They are already unlocked.
Vodafone edition of the HTC Magic works with all carriers, so no need to unlock

does that apply to germany as well?

celester340 - if you are in the USA you can get an unlocked Magic from ImportGSM.com - thats where I got my Rogers Magic and using it on AT&T with full 3G. If you are not in the US, the Vodafone units are the way to go..many on-line places to get those.
Regards - John

And if you are with T-Mobile US, your only choice is the Google Ion as of now. By month end, T-Mobile will release its version of the HTC Magic (myTouch 3G).

i got my phone from ebay UK YAY!!!!

Get a locked one and get it unlocked.

Reason of selling, i got tired of the phone and want something better. Nexus one problably
Beside the phone beeing rooted in portugal the warranty works without issue, you just have to put the original SPL at least and everything will be OK.
Has original plus 3 extra battery
1 USB cable
1 hearjack
1 external charger
16GB Class 6 MicroSD memory
its a 32A
its almost as new the phone, just small scratches on the backplate, you cant see but is normal of the use.
Never was overclocked.

Where to get an htc magic from orange Switerland

I have been looking for a customized htc magic in black. I know i could get one from rogers on ebay, but it comes preloded with some rogers applications. Orange Switzerland seems to be selling one that is totally unbranded. Does anyone know where i can find one online.
Edit: I already checked ebay and they didn't have any.
Bought mine in Mobilezone (Zürich): unbranded Black HTC. They bundle it with any existing contract of yours. However, if you buy a Rogers via eBay you can flash it to whatever you like... so why worry? Maybe I didn't get the point.
Regards,
Frank
Thanks for the website, but i don' quite understand what you mean by:

They sell the devices and add the contract. If you subsrcibed to orange and are eligible (from orange) for a new device within your contract, you will get a discount on the branded device.
I have a black boxed (new/unused) vodafone htc magic for sale. Bought from Germany. Also considering selling mine (also black) to get the samsung i7500 so maybe also a used one for sale! PM me if interested

Both unbranded, the first one the Orange Version. But look out. The lady at the callcenter told me that they're selling both 288MB and 192MB versions.
And yes, it is, totally unbranded. Just HTC Stuff on it.
@Isilmalith
i looked at the site, and it is exactly what i am looking for. However, it is a tad too expensive. i was looking for one at about 450 CHF.
Do you know where i can find this phone locked but without a contract?
I have means of unlocking it myself.
Digitec is the cheapest source for a Phone without contract, there is no way to get a HTC Magic for 450.-, unless you find some at ebay or www.ricardo.ch (which is much more popular in switzerland).
Are you from switzerland?
no i am not in switzerland, in the US and it is not on ebay
I am in the same boat. I want a Magic that can be rooted and work in the US on TMOBILE. If anyone has one for sale or know where I can find one, let me know.

Vodafone simlock

I'm considering buying a 2nd hand unit Vodafone HD2 from Ebay, I was wondering if anyone knew if Vodafone simlock the HD2? I've seen some sellers claiming Vodafone don't lock their devices, others don't mention it. A couple of searches have drawn a blank, can anyone give me a conclusive answer?
Thanks,
Sherbet66
Oh trust me, they lock the devices. I had trouble with them regarding this.
At least in my country they do!
thanks for the reply however I should have mentioned that i will be buying a UK handset ~ an unwanted upgrade, do Vodafone in the UK lock these?
Thanks,
Sherbet66
Hi,
I can speak for UK and the devices I had direct from Vodafone were not locked.
They are:
SE M600i
Diamond
HD2
My friends had:
Touch Pro
Touch Pro2
None of the above were locked and they were offically from Vodafone UK.
I think you can see other threads pointing to the similar coonclusion here.

I received a Vodafone contract HD2 last week and was surprised that it worked with an old Orange SIM I had lying around, so I reckon it's not SIM locked.
It comes with the 1.43 ROM, so you would probably want to reflash it anyway.
Thanks all,
Sherbet66

Same here - unbranded
It depends what operator you get it on. T-mobile UK, being the cheapskates they are, don't include the leather case.
At least mine wasn't included.
Does anyone know what comes with the 02 uk ones?
I'm soon to get mine
On Orange (though since Orange don't actually sell the phone it should be unbranded & unlocked) through Phones 4u.
Wonder what I'll get in the box lol.

I purchased one from eBay. I'm sorry, what do you mean by security unlocked?
There are a lot of tmobile HD2s and unlocking code services on Ebay. The total cost + unlock code + shipping is even cheaper than buying asian/eu version outright.

I wonder how much would everything cost in philippine money
So member "bobsbbq" should not stop developing CHT/CHS Lost In Asia ROM because it has vast market there and LIA ROM is 100% compatible with US HD2.
A side note: US HD2 supports 3G band in Hong Kong.

someone selling at sulit.com.ph for Php 28k
wha about the 3g in asia
Not really sure how they get those phones.. i bought one Tmobile HD2 for USD 500 (euro410)(23400 phil peso), In Malaysia.. Its distributed by an approved permit company... Its a grey market thing... They are not official HTC dristributers but they are legal because they pay the govt tax therefore the govt considers it as legal business... The same goes for nokia, samsung, sony etc phones... Thought some people prefer to go through the official nokia distributer because of the better service but the phones can cost above USD100 extra.
As mentioned, U.S. devices are sold cheaper on Ebay than they are in the local stores (in the Philippines, at least).
Everytime I visit the Philippines, I go to a shopping mall (Greenhills) and look at the phones (my cousins know some of the sellers). The used smartphones cost more than some phones here in the US (subsidized or not).
I even asked my cousins in the Philippines to buy me a belt holster for my TP2. When they asked the employee how much the phone itself cost, they were shocked it cost ~$900! And I bought my T-Mo TP2 (subsidized) for $350 (un-subsidized, the TP2 costs $500)!
Also, there are a lot of T-Mo HD2s on Ebay because many T-Mo customers wanted the HD2 for its hardware. Once they met WinMo OS, they wanted to sell it as fast as possible and get their old phones back.

Is the Vodafone UK HTC Desire HD unlocked?

If anyone who has a vodafone desire HD in the UK, can they confirm is the phone is supplied unlocked or locked ? Could they also tell us where it was purchased from. Many thanks!

I don't want to hijack your post but ditto on the T-Mobile phones, any information on if their phones are locked or unlocked.
If you buy from carrier retail shop they are normally locked, but if you buy from a third party they come unlocked most of the time. Just ask who ever your buying from.

My friend got his from Vodafone unlocked. The guy at Vodafone said that due to the short supply they were just getting them unlocked from the manufacturer and sending them straight out to customers. This was about 2-3 weeks ago so the situation could have changed.
I received my replacement from Vodafone last Friday, its completely unbounded and unlocked

I got my DHD directly from Vodafone - it is unbranded and unlocked - per my own experience with Vodafone - over the last 2 years or so I got the following phones from Vodafone:
- Touch pro2 - branded but Unlocked
- Windows 7 Trophy - unbranded and unlocked
- Desire HD (DHD) - unbranded and unlocked
so far all phones have been received direct from Vodafone and all have been unlocked - so I think I can make this healthy assumption that HTC phones are pretty much unlocked from Vodafone.
Hope this helps.
Can confirm mobiles.co.uk was unlocked

Luving this site which I've just stumbled on and answered my question straight away, so here's some info that I've been told from two different T-Mobile UK staff.
Phone is SIM locked but the firmware hasn't been touched (this site has confirmed this too)
The phone will have some kind of T-Mobile logo branding but that's it. I can't wait for my new DHD to turn up now, no stock with T-Mobile and may not be for 3 weeks or more ...... nevermind hay I'll just have to wait.
