Which tutorial for Voip? - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hi there in this forum,
searched for VoIP, I found several "How-To's" for activating VoIP in Windows Mobile 6, e.g.:
[GUIDE] How to configure VoIP/SIP client in WM6. - xda-developers
VOIP software...Whats the latest now? - xda-developers
VOIP in WM61, done! - xda-developers
Which one is working for Diamond 2?

FIRST use the first guide (How to configure...) to set up your SIP settings cab and then...
1. Install the following attached VOIP cab
2. Install your SIP settings cab.
3. Soft reset your device
4. Open Phone then menu, then options, then you will see a tab labelled Internet. Click and here you can select when to activate Internet calling.
Working great on my TD2

Thank you for your reply.

Good news! No problems with the first guide? The thread sounds terrible meanwhile.

Yeah you need to set up your SIP cab and install... but it's pretty easy with the tutorial given in that guide. If you have problems then PM me.

Thank you again, will try it net days.

Done on my TD2 too and it works (I'm using VOIP buster).
The before call screen is perfect (the operator name changes to VOIP Buster from my original 3G Wind) but there are (tolerable) problems with the call phone screen:
- operator name reverts to cellular one (but the call is positively made through VOIP Buster)
- there is an overlapping with called name from the contacts (red marks are mine, for privacy)
- the "shade cover" is missing
Do you have similar problems?

I have problem on my Diamond2, I was created the cab with my VoIP settings, but after installation there is no file Prov0SIPSettings in /Windows/System/VoIP directory :-( I was checked my _setup.xml many times and there is all ok, the problem why the file isn´t created must be somewhere else.
Is there any other sollution how to use VoIP on my Diamond2? For example with SIP Config tool? Thank you for any help.

Yep I noticed that on the 1.39 ROM but don't have it now on the newer 1.40... so you'll have it fixed soon once the Hard SPL is out

Using VOIP.cab as above I had VOIP working on my Diamond2. The usual problem was sound on the speakerphone instead of earpiece where it should be.
After some research I found a 'manual' solution at Teksoft (http://teksoftco.com/index.php?section=freeware).
Then I made a little and dirty small application to 'automatize' it (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519008)

IP Phone
has anyone solved that?
i have IP Phone option in Comm Manager (i think i have enabled it through registry).
has anyone tryed to have VoIP on WM6.5 in topaz directly (i mean without apps like fring, or nimbuzz...)

Virgin UK Network Settings CAB file

I know that there have been requests for this so here we are.
The attached ZIP file contains the CAB to automatically configure GPRS and MMS connections for the Virgin UK network. It has been successfully tested on an XDA II and SPV M1000, both of which are running 2003 SE. I don't have a pre-2003 or Mobile 5 device to try it on so I don't know if it works on them.
The 2 connections which are set up are called:
Virgin GPRS - this has been configured to also allow MSN Messenger to be used.
Virgin MMS
Before using it, I would advise the removal of any existing GPRS and MMS connection settings (though the choice is obviously yours). I would also advise to check that your happy with all of the MMS options/settings following the install (e.g. Save Sent messages is switched off with this CAB).
At last - God knows what i was doing wrong but with this cab and some manual setup of the Connection side of thing i have managed to send an MMS.
This CAB setup the MMS side perfectly (nothing on GPRS) - as i was typing from what i can gather ok for IP i was using the full xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx and server name i had put goto.virginmobile.uk whereas this cab just say picture message (not sure if this would cause and issue), but i am doing the connection via: My Work Network as thats where i setup the GPRS, rather than internet.
My Mobile is a Voda Compact III 1605, running HTC Rom 1.35 with windows mobile 5 - and have sent my 1st MMS after trying over a few days!
thanks
How do I install this cab file?
Copy the CAB file to your device and execute it...
sbgorner, you rule!!!
iv been trying to get my mms to work for 5 days now and was readt to smash my phone to pieces. your cab worked perfectly.

It installs on my O2 XDA mini s, but still no connection
Maybe you know some other way to do it.

Remove old network connections before installing the CAB
The CAB file does really rely on the fact that there are no existing network specific connection details installed on the XDA. The best way to ensure that old network connections are not affecting the Virgin settings is to delete them, i.e. ensure that only the standard "My ISP" and "My Work Network" entries are still present.
1) Go to Start->Settings and on the "Connections" tab, tap on the Connections icon.
2) Tap on the "Advanced" tab.
3) Tap on the "Select Networks" button.
4) Use the drop-down arrow to select an entry (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network").
5) Tap on the "Edit..." button.
6) Tap on the "General" tab.
7) Tap on the "Delete Settings" icon.
8) Repeat steps 4 to 7 until all of the entries (do not select "My ISP" or "My Work Network") have been removed.
Having removed all of the network specific connection entries, try reinstalling the Virgin UK cab file again and everything should work.
You diamond. Just sent Virgin a bollocking. They suggested I contact O2 about setting this up. Your cab file much appreciated by a middle aged member.
Thanks
Will try!
Much appreciated!

Just tried this after a week of trying various settings, now got access to gprs, thanks.
I have followed your instructions but after running the CAB file the VArio II still doesn't connect. If I click on the edit settings link it doesn't think there are any settings, as I only have the option to install a new ISP. However if I try to manually install a new ISP using the name Virgin GPRS it won't let me as it says a connection already exists with that name, but nowhere can I find any trace of that connection. What is going on please?

I'm in exactly the same position with my O2 XDA mini S.
I could possibly try using a different ISP name but I'd rather find out why this is happening and delete the connections made by the CAB file. As I can't find the connections though I can't delete them.
Ok, Time for an update.
Using Virgin GPRS2 didn't work and I've found out how to remove the setting created by the CAB file. I went to add and remove programs and removed the changes that way.
I have followed the instructions from this thread to no avail. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=238042&highlight=virgin+gprs
I'll keep plodding along but if someone can offer any suggestions i'd lve to hear them.
Ps. Don't be rude.
Hi Bouncypete
I also discovered that I could get rid of the bad settings using remove programs, but am also no further forward in finding the correct settings. I have sent a private email to sbgorner (he doesn't appear to subscribe to any forums) but have not had a reply. Anybody else out there got any ideas?
Virgin GPRS settings
Hi Bouncypete -success!!!
I have found an older posting from sbgorner which gives a blow by blow manual way of doing the settings and it works!!.
I will try and attach this as a pdf, but if the attachment doesn't come through then email me and I will send it to you direct
ran VirginUK.CAB - no settings added
I deleted all the old gprs etc connection settings and ran CAB file, but get no settings visable in network connections just "my isp" and my work network". When I try and enter settings manually I get to the "modem" new page and enter Virgin GPRS or MMS select Cellular GPRS/3G and next and it tell me I'm adding a duplicate setting although there are no settings visible. This happens after removing the CAB settings that make no difference in remove programs? Any Ideas apart from clearing the phone down?
Thanks for the pdf link - sorted me & my orbit out
Virgin UK network settings
I have been trying for ages to get my HTC Blueangel to link into the internet.
This CAB file did the job for me. Surprise, surprise (for me at least) IT WORKS.

Hi Guys!
If you can send/receive MMSes can you please tell how to send one?
What should I have in my menus? And why I can see all those settings but can't send?
Cheers Guys!
Ok, what I've tried next:
1. checking MMS settings (yes, they are in MENU)
2. taking a picture and tried to send this picture as a MMS (didn't work twice, Exec has just hang)
3. found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=261852&highlight=o2+settings and tried to applay those settings one more time. No joy...
Strange thing is that I don't have MMS folder but I do have MMS settings
Any other ideas? I really need MMSes (like never before, I'm heavy user but just calls and GPRS/WIFi- no texts (10-20/mth) or MMSes (5 in my whole life or even less)
Cheers

T-Mobile MMS Settings?
Originally, I wrote:
I have a similar problem with my Jasjar and T-Mobile (USA): MMS messages just sit there, and occasionally I get a notification that they couldn't be sent...? My Jasjar was purchased independently and is unlocked. Is there some T-Mobile USA file I need to upload to the device? And can I do it via my Mac and Missing Sync?

Well, I uploaded a T-Mobile settings file which I had downloaded from i-mate, et voilá! I was able to send MMSes. It also (when I choose to disconnect from the GPRS network) restored the G-in-a-square that had become dashed two-way arrows. Unfortunately, there's still something interfering with syncing with my Mac via Missing Sync for Windows Mobile.... Thanks! Cheers,
Has either one of you tried to contact your provider and actually ask them to help you with the settings? I mean really, CALL customer service and have them either walk you through it, or get the settings and we'll help you input them if it comes to that.
Hi,
No, I havn't. The reason is that I do have:
- VGA hack (OZ)
- load of programs (which shouldn't affect anyway MMS as they are not affecting emails and texts)
- I've done full backup + restore using SPB backup tool (from older ROM to newer, as my phone went for service)
Now I going to do hard reset.
I just have to create list of installed programs, prepare them etc.
I've even installed windows
Anyway, it looks like something is going on with MMSes...
Cheers
Chris
None of the things you mentioned can be used as an excuse for not calling your provider of the settings:
a. OzVGA has a nice little button which will allow you to boot in normal mode.
b. Nothing to do with MMS
c. That might be a problem altogether, it's generally not recommended restoring on newer ROM.

I have also been trying this without success. I currently have two versions of the SKY+ Java software, one which works with the touchscreen one which doesnt. the touchscreen one always times out during connection whereas the non touchscreen one says "The data connection has failed" whenever I press the login button. The app itself seems very compatible and appears to fill the WVGA screen very nicely, however we will need someone who knows a little more about how to "point the the java app in the right internet direction" (excuse my non technical description, this is where my technical ability runs out ) the java emulator itself does not help much as it contains no options to apply to the app
I have it working great. Just install the JBED Java version and then install it from inside that. It only logs in when you have the Vodafone proxy disabled though.
It's great to have a 50 channel EPG!!

could you please expand a little, how do you 'disable the vodafone proxy'? as far as I can tell that doesnt really make any sense! I really want to get this software working so any help you can give as to how you set yours up would be most appreciated, Thankyou
This worked for me:
Install Jbed attached above and use it to install the Sky.jar program.
On your Xperia go through:
settings
then select the connections tab
then the connections icon
followed by the advanced tab
Now chosse the select networks button and in the top drop down menu (the connection for programs which automatically connect to the net to use) and change it to "WEB" rather than "My ISP".
My ISP uses wap.vodafone.co.uk as an access point name via a proxy server.
WEB uses "internet" as an access point name without using a proxy server.
You do need to also do the following to get the service runiing:
1. Register for "my sky" at the sky website.
2. Add remote recording to the list of services runningon your my sky account
3. Activate remote recording on your sky box through its menu system
I've tested it out and I can access the 7day listing guide and send record instructions straight to the box (only takes 1-2mins).
Has anyone got this working on an o2 X1 - I don't have a "Web" option in my connections!

The WEB is a Vodafone name. I know o2 work on the same type of system (web and wap) so if you list what's available we should be able to take a guess at which one you should be using.
Hi artesea, thanks for your response. I have just tried again.... the o2 X1 has a choice of My ISP or Work Internet - so selected Work Internet and bingo it all loaded at connected at last
Tested it and within five seconds it updated my sky HD box!!!!
Thanks all!
Hi,
Sorry for the slight change in direction in the topic but it is relevent (hopefully you guys will agree)
whats the difference between "My ISP" and "work Internet" other than one points to the providers proxy server? Im with o2 and have the unlimited web bolt on - is this only unlimited web as long as i go through the "My ISP" connection?
If not, I dont actually see the point in going through the ISP's proxy at all?
Cheers,
Craig
Both Vodafone and o2 have two types of connections, can't remember the exact names so I'll call them INTERNET and WAP.
They were set up back in the day when the internet on your mobile was WML files and not much else.
WAP would allow you to access the internet on your phone, mainly to the companies own portal (Vodafone Live! etc).
INTERNET was to be used by a computer connected to the phone via Infrared or data cable. The networks have compressors at their end to decrease the size of the files to make it quicker and cheaper (you might notice images look crap). Connecting over WAP wouldn't work.
Since then phones have got very smart, and networks are getting behind.
For example you can't access Vodafone Live! whilst using INTERNET, but then you can't access a 3rd party app on WAP.
I can see that some apps are being allow over WAP (google maps), however I've found it a lot easier to have everything running over INTERNET.
Not 100% sure if o2 will allow you to use INTERNET in your bundle, but Vodafone do.
Can someone post the Sky Remote Record java app? Or at least post a link where they found it. I have it working on my X1 but the program size is so small it is hard to read.
How do you get around the issue of logging in using an O2 X1? I have the app installed and can enter username and password but can't select login. I saw a suggestion was to map the left and right keys to volume up and down (think it was for a differernt handset though) but when in the buttons settings there is no options to remap these keys to volume.
The left and right buttons are mapped to Login and Exit already.
My problem is the network not found problem. Like hell I'm installing another Java. I did that with my old Polaris and had nothing but problems afterwards.

But on my handset (and I know some other peoples) the login button (left softkey) does not function so you can't even login. It would appear that some people have a workaround for this, just wondering what that is.
after a bit of hair pulling i finally managed to get this to work at last.
I finally bit the bullet and de-vodafoned my device to the new R2A ROM (using SD card method - see other threads for more info).
I use AE Button Plus to remap the left and right soft keys to "hard" keys (select left key -> 3. Handle by AEBplus -> 1. single press -> 11. press left soft key. Same for right (soft)key). After hitting OK choose file then "save & exit"
This might help O2 users with the connection setup.

Help
I have reassigned the left and right key with AE Button Plus but still cannot login or exit via the keys?
Any help out there?
For me, the hard key to log in would only work when the keyboard is open. Odd, but gets around it and I can now at least remote record.
I have just assigned the buttons, so they always operate the softkeys, which is a bit annoying as I prefered one for rotate screen. Is there a way to only map the buttons within the Java app?
Thanks sebring
This appears to be the same for me.
Keyboard open and the reassigned keys work....really strange that.
Thanks again.

[MOD] Integrated sip

I'm not professional but horny to make tests
I tested that adding android.software.sip.voip to permissions we can get integrated sip to work with wlan.
This is already found with SGS. You can find file and introduction here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12818807&postcount=2
Tested with KE2. So add above post file to "system\etc\permissions\" and reboot. Then you have integrated sip
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Mic doesn't work properly. Sip calls uses 2nd mic. It locates near 3,5mm plug. Perhaps an alsa config issue...?
* You can modify framework-res.apk to enable sip over 3g by editing "res\values\bools.xml" and setting "config_sip_wifi_only" to false
Thank you.................
Mic is very low... Have somebody found good settings? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13689470#post13689470 It test these but will not help.
With speaker mode everything works fine. Mic is powerfull!
EDIT: DOU'H with sip calls it uses 2nd mic It locates near 3,5mm plug. Hopefully somebody can fix this.
regular SIP apps also have troubles if the speaker is not enabled
like simplesip, people can barely hear me without the speaker on
same reason also
its prolly an alsa config issue
any ideas..
put my callcentric account info in.. but ther eis not test option
set it to ask me on calls.. tried to make an internet call.
and just get popup "call not sent" i am on wifi at the time..
ok more info .. the error is that this doesnt seemto work correctly on the sgs ii..
i turn on the option "receive incomming calls" and it says failed to register no wifi connection,, but off course i do have a wifi connections

You can modify framework-res.apk to enable sip over 3g by editing "res\values\bools.xml" and setting "config_sip_wifi_only" to false. You need to use apk_manager to compile and decompile that framework-res.apk.
Hopefully we can get fix for mic.
how about fix for the fact that it is not working logging into the acct. seems more serious.. for those that have it working what rom are you on?
Please how to i modify framework-res.apk to enable sip over 3g on KE2? There is no folder as values under res and there is no bools.xml when I do a whole search of the system. So there is no "res\values\bools.xml"
Can you help please
This is working atleast with KE2.
You need apk manager to decompile framework-res.apk. Then you can find "res\values\bools.xml". After edit you have to compile the file. I can send instruction link later.

With SGS I don't use recovery mode. I just renamed file and overwrite old file with root explorer.
I'm hoping for a little help with this.
I've pushed the voip.xml file to configure SIP through the Call settings. I've registered for a free sipgate account and number. I know I've done something right, as I can receive calls on that number on my phone now.
My problem is making outgoing calls. I can set the "Internet call" attribute of a contact, but after doing so clicking on "Internet call" does absolutely nothing. I've tried using the test number for sipgate, which is 10000, because I do not have credit yet. I've also tried real UK and US phones numbers (with country codes) with the same result (I was hoping for a message from sipgate saying I have no credit or something).
If I have successfully setup my sip account, how do I edit a contact so that I can call them through sip?

Tested with KE2. So add above post file to "system\etc\permissions\" and reboot. Then you have integrated sip
Mic doesn't work properly. Sip calls uses 2nd mic. It locates near 3,5mm plug. Perhaps an alsa config issue...?

Same for me(KE2), intgrated SIP uses wrong mic.
CSipSimple also uses wrong mic.
Workaround until fixed is SipDroid, works excellent.

Not entirely true. I'm seeing behaviour that is reminiscent of the old issue 311 with Sipdroid where TCP connnections are disconnecting at 30 seconds into the call. I've confrimed this on 3G, but haven't had a chance to test it on wifi yet. The old issue had something to do with TCP connections flipping back to UDP at 30 seconds due to a missing suffix, indicating it was a TCP connection. It was supposedly fixed in Sipdroid, but something tells me it's back.
Besides the microphone issue, what if any other issues are you seeing with the hacked native SIP?
