Problem with 3G Coverage in Sweden / Tele2 - Touch HD General

Hi,
is there anyone else that have problem with the 3G coverage in sweden? I'm using Tele2. Especial when the phone is "all clean" like after a rom update or hard reset.
On places i know there is 3G coverage it only says GSM, i have try the band settings and then i got 3G , BUT when it's out off 3G range i have no signal.
I tried my sim card in a Sony Ericsson, then i got full 3G coverage on the same spot. I got a new sim card, and no luck with that.
My friend had same problem with his phone, using Telenor. The strange thing is when we played around with the settings and left the phone on WCDMA a few days, then shift back to Auto in Network type it seems to work pretty good UNTIL i got the new rom. I tried the same metod and had no luck this time.
Anyone else that have experianced problem with 3G coverage in Sweden?

I experience the same problem with Telia. I had no problems before the last ROM-upgrade that came in april. Now the reception is very weak and the signal is just one dot in places there it was full before the upgrade. Please keep in touch if you find a solution.

I got the same problems and havnt done the new rom update yet, i think the 3g reception just was this bad and never thought about maby its the phone.. So if its someway to solve it id be very happy to know

As far as I know rom has nothing to do with it. Upgrade your radio

I think i found a solution that works.
I call a few people and found out this, go into Phone Settings, found the tab Network, put the "Network Selection" to Manual, press "Set Networks", wait a for a moment and when you got the list, move and check "Sweden 3G" (i got 2 of them) to the top of the list and after then put you provider below Sweden 3G, i got 6 Tele2 under and make sure that all are checked. So my list looks like this, (make sure that you have 3G on the spot you 're at when searching for networks)
Sweden 3G
Sweden 3G
24007
TELE2
TELE2
TELE2
TELE2
TELE2
After this i got 3G right away! And i have seen a gsm signal also when i lost the 3G.
Sweden 3G is a "network" that all 3G providers in sweden use. Then it up to your provider to put up more antennas for better coverage. So if you using Telia,Telenor,3,Tele2 etc you should use Sweden 3G.
It must be a problem with the "Auto search network" thing in HTC. The HTC Support lady told me that she got some calls about this thing, and not only for Touch HD.
I Tried with GoogleMaps on the way home from work, and it works perfect, and at last i got the speed of the map update thru 3G .. Realtime at Satellite View.
Tell me if it worked for you guys.

drgregur...you need more people to call.

Tele2 and Telia(TeliaSonera) has their own 2G/GSM networks but share their 3G Network called Sweden 3G (SVENSKA UMTS NÄT) between themselfs.
Telenor inherited the old 2G/3G Network from (Europolitan later bought by) Vodafone who fled the Swedish scene years ago.
3 (Tre/Three) Has its own UMTS/3G network, but no own 2G network.
As you are a customer in this mixed Tele2/Telia network, you need a 64K SIM card. Speak to your customer service, and they will be able to help you.
I know that at least Telia is blocking less than 64k SIM cards in their 3G network.
Svedis
(Swedish)

I cahcked, and i got the 64k simcard already. Same problem, seems to be some problem with the phone. My friend uses telenor and got smiliar problem. I running on my solution that i wrote above and it works.

3G Signal

I have been using my new o2 Exec in many different cities in the UK but not once have I been able to use 3G.
1) How would I know I am connected to 3g as I only see the GPRS symbol.
2) Has anyone used this device in 3G?
If the device is connected to a 3G signal, the network name would appear as 3G O2 - UK instead of just O2 - UK.
Also the little "G" would change to a "U"
I have a 3G signal on O2 in London a lot. A very strong signal at Waterloo and I even have one at home in Camberley (Surrey). The Vodafone 3G signal in Camberley/Farnborough is very good.
I get 3G at home (Didcot) and have also elsewhere (eg Reading, Sheffield, various parts of London). Don't get it at my workbase, but that is in a rural Oxfordshire location.
Other 3G service at home are 3 and Orange. No sign of any 3G signals from Vodafone or T-Mobile.
The only time I have even tried, West End of London and I had a U signal with Orange... just no-one else with a Video capable phone to call...
Well it must mean they have given me a GPRS SIM because at the time I was asked do I want a 3g or GPRS connection - which I found strange.
I have not had 3g reception in Leeds, Oxfordshire.
3G SIM's usually (in my country) have a BIG "3G" on them. Check. Can't believe you;ve never seen a U if you do have a SIM.

Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but have you checked the device settings to make sure that it is not locked to GPRS?
Settings, Phone, Band tab.
I leave this set to auto most of the time unless the phone has a borderline 3G signal and keeps switching from 3G to GPRS all the time.
If you find that this is greyed out, hold down the reg 'end call' button until it 'un-grays' its self ;-)

Xperia X1 signal problems. Weird.

Hi, i'm from Canada, PQ, Montreal and another mate in this forum from Canada, Vancouver is having the same problem.
For the first 10-20secs after the X1i has been booted succesfully. We get the G status icon(GPRS signal) in the corner and get 2-3bars of signal, during these times, we can call/text or receive calls. After this, the G signal will be replaced by E signal (Edge), this is when i cannot make any calls nor receive any calls nor send any message. I tried this while i was in the streets in a open sky place. I tried my friend's phone and i had FULL SIGNAL (its an nokia 5800 xpress) , i tried my other phone, nokia n95 8gb, i get sky rocketing signal as well.
So the only way to call me, is to keep on trying , hoping i get GPRS status. I have tested my mom's sim card prepaid , to see if it relates to 3G internet or something , still no luck. Anyone from canada having problems?? I'm with rogers. They use 850mhz/1850mhz , i have disabled HSPDA and seletected these two bands, still no luck .... I cannot update the radio rom because its locked ....
Please help =(
perhaps we might have to unlock the phone with Fido to use voice calls on edge? i'm having the same problem. ;(
Perhaps you have to call fido to disable EDGE and use GPRS only ... i'm gonna have to refund my x1 =(
Initially, Fido worked basically with 1900MHz but since the acquisition of Fido by Rogers in 2004, Rogers integrated the networks extending coverage thru 850MHz...
Better get the X1a or change provider
I live in sweden and I also have problem with my signal. it just disapears from time to time.
Same problem here on the other side of the world; in Abu Dhabi. Sometime the signal is completely lost!

is it possible to disable Edge?? THe "E" symbol only indicate edge reception but we are not technically connected to it. Can i actually ask them to cut Edge reception totally?
I only have the voice plan in the first place.

hd in fido network - canada

I just bought an hd from a store in canada but used (demo)
cid=htc_001 0
1.14.405.0 (21010) wwe
10/20/08
radio 1.09.25.14
prot = 52.49a.25.26u
blac100 32M spl-1.14.olinex. microp-blackstone (led)v6
cannot seem to register on the gsm network.
fido gsm is 850-1900.
I know g3 wont work but gsm should and is not.
try changing the radio, check the wiki, might end up being a bit of trial & error. You could also try going back to a stock rom first.
thanks i may try the radio.
I think my rom is a stock one?
No one here using fido?
I was able to register onto the network when hard reseting with the sim in the phone...
took a long time to get a signal...
signal was there, gprs icon was on... but wsn't able to receive calls or make calls.
When calling my cell, i got the answering system.
how to be sure it is not locked?
Still cannot make or receive calls
flashed with RUU_BlackStone_HKCSL_WWE_1[1].19.831.0_Radio_52.49a.25.26_1.09.25.14_Ship.exe. Still same radio as before.
now registers fast in network
gets signal and Edge icons but cannot make or receive calls - no line...
could it be it is not unlocked?
They told me it was...
how to be sure?
changed the sim card to a newer one made after 3G introduction and it now works.

But only works when the network icon is G. It doesn't when icon is E.
Here in Canada the phone's 3G capabilities are not used.
When i am somewhere where the network icon is E, i got a signal icon but no line. I cannot make or receive calls
Anyone has seen this.
Phone band and network are in Automatic... if i try to asiggn a band and network manually...same problem.
it honestly sounds to me like something is damaged with the phone, i think you should see if there is an HTC partner in Canada, and check to see if maybe the device is under warranty and can be repaired.
Im in Canada with rogers and have no problem making or receiving calls with my hd. 3G dont seem to work though
well it seems it is a known issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=476139&highlight=edge+gprs+drop
mine has also a SN beginning with HT845 as many faulty devices have.
My problems is i have olinex 1.14 on it
I have a Touch HD too and works fine with Fido here in Canada.
I used the factory rom for about a week then used the custom rom.
have tried several roms and they all worked on my HD with the fido network.
the only thing is i have the roaming icon on all the time, but luckily i dont get charged roaming once i'm in my local area.
Dont know why you are having problems with yours, but like someone said i'm also guessing there may be something wroong with your handset.
try taking it to a repair shop (HTC authorized at least) and see what they also say.
best of luck
HTC Touch HD with Fido
I have also bought touch HD and having same issue, I can dial and recieve calls while I am outside but when I am any where inside I can not recieve or call any one from HD, I think touch hd that I have has 900 frequency that is why I am having issue, Fido and Rogers works good on 850 frequency. Does any one know how can I solve this problem
As I said before I have touch HD with rogers network. I have no problem recieving or making calls even indoors. I bought mine at pacific mall a year ago
Only HTC Touch HD T8285 will work on Fido/Rogers/Bell/Telus 3G network.
I think you have T8282 and this is the reason that you cannot get 3G or H icon on the top bar.
I have T8285 and it works fine on Fido 3G network It show 3G and H on the top bar.
no matter you do (like flashing radio or rom) it will not chnage the UMTS signal. It is hardware related.

New Hero.... help

Hi Guys and girls,
I just got a Hero today from ExpertInfotech. It's an imported phone which I expected , but....... it looks like the phone was set for Eastern Europe and refuses to see any of the Australian Networks , I am getting a Out of Service message the minute I turn it on. I've looked on the HTC site for a Generic ROM , no luck. I tried to change the location on the phone but they are all in Eastern Europe ( Hungry , Poland , Romania etc ). This is my first Android phone as I have several WinMo phones from HTC. Can anyone suggest a fix or point me in the right direction ????
please .....
more info
Ok this is weird , but if I put in a Vodaphone Aus Sim it works fine..... But Telstra 3G nothing. The really strange thing is this same SIM in a WinMo phone picks up the telstra network fine. Any ideas ?
Have you looked for the APN settings for your network? It's an unlocked phone, so you have to put those in manually.
Try:
Operator: - Telstra
GPRS APN: - telstra.internet
Username: - {blank}
Password: - {blank}
DNS: - 139.130.4.4, 203.50.170.2
Not sure where you find the option to input the settings, though. Look around your phone, probably under the network settings. Don't have a Hero yet...
for APN you go to Settings - Wireless Controls - Mobile Network Settings, there you can add APN
You sure you are in a UMTS 2100 area?
If I'm not mistaken Telstra has opted for using UMTS 2100 for cities and UMTS 850 for the less populated areas. UMTS 850 not supported on the european Hero at least.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next_G
Hero supports:
Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900)
Dual band UMTS/HSPA (UMTS 900, UMTS 2100)
Thats the thing , all of the options relating to network , and wireless data ( except for WLAN ) are grey'd out when I have the Telstra SIM in. I'm in a strong telstra network zone as my other phone ( Touch HD ) gets full signals , using the same SIM. The Vodafone sim that I can put it , only has 1 or 2 bars of signal yet it comes up right away. The really weird thing is the Out of Service Area message , and the fact that I cant change the Area location to ENglish ( AUstralia ) even with the Voda SIM in , they are all Polish ,Romania , and Hungry. It almost seems as if the phone is tied into the Easter Europe market , which I would think a unbranded Hero would not be. I will try my wifes 3 sim in it tonight to see it that works as well.
I know that Telstra uses their own band for 3G ( 850 ) but even non telstra spcific phones usually get the Edge or GSM bands just fine , this Hero .... nada
I figured it out!!!
Ok I've discovered why.... I'll let everyone know as I'm sure this will happen to someone else. It seems that is the SIM in PIN enabled and has the pin setting disabled ( i.e. you dont get prompted to enter the SIM Pin with turning the phone on ) it wont work. I discovered this by accident , with a brand new SIM that I had to enter a pin and everything worked , after I set up the SIM to disable the PIN check and power cycled the handset , BAM back to Out of service area..... the Kicker is in the Hero I couldnt find a way to reenable it , had to put the sim into another Winmo phone to enable the PIN again and then it's all happy again. Thats freaking weird....... This little "Feature" could possibly catch ALOT of people out.
Re I figured it out!!!
I had a similar experience. Unfortunately for me I did a hard reset and then the phone froze and has stayed that way. Eventually I had to return to the supplier. When I get it back I will definitely go looking for that pin to ensure it does not happen again.
Thanks for advise.

3G or HSDPA on Aria in South Africa

Howzit
I've noticed there are a few South Africans on this forum. Anyways I have an HTC Aria which I brought in USA on AT&T's network. When I got back home in SA my brother (who has a HTC Hero) helped my flash the phone, or root, or whatever its called. Bottom line is the phone is now unlocked and working on Vodacom network and its running Froyo 2.2 100% no problems with apps or anything.
The major problem I am having is network related. I can't seem to get 3G or HSDPA on my Aria. My brothers Hero get's HSDPA signal no problem, the only thing my phone displays is a "G" above the signal meter. I've got Vodacom settings and I can connect to the internet with my phone, but it's slow cause it's only GPRS.
If I go to settings and change Network Mode to WCDMA only, then I don't get any service at all.
Can anyone help out?
Regards!
