to flash an english OS over danish OS ROM - Touch HD General

I have just bought htc touch hd with dansih OS rom. the phone is locked to danish 3g (www.3.dk).
#1. Any thing I need to take care to flash a new OS on a locked phone?
#2. Do I need to find&save the configuration for 3g setup thus after I
flash to english OS, I will still be able to call&surf?
#3. How could I backup the complete ROM thus when something goes wrong
I could revert to original ROM and retrun the phone?
I tried to find the answer int he forum, but failed. Thanks in advance for your answer.

Now I started to get some answer to my own question:
#1. I will need to have SSPL or HSPL to flash my rom to another language
I prefer to SSPL.
#2. The phone will still be locked to 3.com after flashing which I don't care
Still questions:
#1. Any setup related to 3.com for internet surfing?
#2. How I could backup original ROM and revert to the original ROM?

I am living in DK and got the same phone from 3.
Used USPL when flashing, and no problems at all.
The phone will automatically get 3;s settings from the network.
The original Danish rom is available in the rom development forum in one of the stickies

Thank you for the answer. I will try to flash it then.

Just a piece of advice - MUST read wiki pages regarding flashing ROMS. This will enable you to flash the device with confidence and will prevent any possibility of DAMAGE you may cause during flashing.
Credit to those pages goes to respective authors.

Thank you. I have just successfully flashed HD to the latest english version
with the advice from wiki and you.
Everything works fine.
Got another couple of questions:
#1. What is the difference of "fully power off" from "soft reset"
#2. GPS and AGPS. How does GPS work in HD?
Is that possible to turn it on/off manually to save power if navigation is not needed.
#3. Do you have any recommendation of a cooked ROM? My taste is to have a lite version. e.g.: I don't really need google maps which I could install at any time when needed.
Thanks.

Beginners questions (Vario II)...

Hello to everybody. Hope it's not to annoying that i try it here. I read in the forum and in the tutorials - but it's still very confusing. Would be happy to read some answeres...
I have a new Vario II (latest model) and try to figure out some details.
1. I would like to upgrade to WM6 and found the Rom's posted here. I also read all the tutorials but i didn't find a final answere to this: When i flash the rom with a rom version posted here to just try - can i downgrade it to the original one? Sure there is a "Original Shipped ROM Version" of T-Mobile as the assumption is written in the tutorial.
2. I am just irritated because i read of some bootloader versions that are not downgradable. Is this still the case? Is the bootloader updated by a rom update? And if not when and why it is or should be updated? For what exactly the bootloader is needed?
3. I am using Windows Vista (but i also have an Computer with XP). I read all about the problems with this because of the missing Active Sync. Does this affect also the procedure of updating the rom? Will future versions be compatible with the "Windows Mobile Device Center"?
4. I am also irritated to read about radio rom updates. Are they includet in full rom updates? Why are there so much updates of the radio rom that are not given by the single providers? Are the radio roms all the same for all versions of the hermes and all the languages? is an radio update downgraded when i go back to my original rom? If not is it able to downgrade it in every version?
Sorry for alls this noob questions. It's a very new material for me and i hope to be a little more experienced in a few weeks...

Hi and welcome
Have you read our Mrvanx guides. I suggest using his guided process particularly if you do not have experience in flashing. See here:
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=section&id=7&Itemid=27
Look to the main menu on the page.
and look on the wiki here:

Mike
Thank you for your answer.
That was what i did. But the questions were still there...
[1] Hmm..yes it is possible (and there is always a "but"), but if you do upgrade it to wm6 (And the rom is not official (or not from t-mobile itself)) you will lose your guarantee on your device. So if you want to downgrade it to wm5 again you need to find a wm5 t-mobile rom (and there are alot of threads with links to download those t-mobile wm5 roms) or you could backup your rom that is on your device, but thats another story.
[2] As far as I know, POF (he's a smart-ass member) has a new bootloader and its possible to downgrade. (or you flash your wm5/wm6 (any rom for the hermes) with your sd card so you dont need a bootloader. Click)
[3] I used Vista to! And there are no problems if you READ this, Mrvanx guide!
[4] You can be irritated as much as you want but I think you're talking bull****. You can flash any hermes radio on you device but the point is, every radio is different for each person. So you need to find out what radio is best for you. And if you dont have any problems with your existing radio, why flash it?
I just flash everything on my device because I think its fun to see what happens..
everything you do with your device when i comes to flashing; IS ON YOUR OWN RISK! So dont blame us when you blow up your device.
Have fun..

Where can I can get original spl+rom?

Hi guys!
I bought Touch HD while ago and now it seems to be broken. Problem is that it turns off randomly and don't wake up until you keep the battery off about half an hour. There is wm6.5 and hspl inside and I've tested mtty and different rom which didn't help at all. So the question is where I can get original spl and rom because I don't have them and of course without them warranty is gone. Cheers!
I'm not sure what stock ROM version you originally had, but see this link
Note: you can also download a ROM image from HTC's website in the support section.
Please refer to the following link for more information and the necessary files you will require to re-flash back to Stock (see and read the last section of post #1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431217
Regards.
p.s. also remember to flash back to the original Radio version of the phone, if required.

Need Step-by-Step guide for removing Telstra ROM and installing the official HTC ROM

Hey everyone,
There are multiple discussions going on here, and it is confusing me a lot.
I just need a FULL step-by-step guide for removing the Telstra ROM and installing the latest official HTC ROM on my device since Telstra put a LOT of garbage on the phone, even at startup and launching the Opera browser.
So again, step-by-step is the best option and I am willing to donate $10 via PayPal to whoever can help me out.
Please reply quickly, I eagerly wait!

What Telstra Rom version are you running?
I'm running 1.49.841.1 (71528) WWE. It is the default out of the box Telstra ROM which I sort of hate (too much garbage and branding, even when loading up Opera it says Telstra).
I just need a step-by-step guide on removing it and installing the Official HTC ROM on it.
Waiting for more replies.
Read the stickies. They are most important.
Hi Steve,
actually the Step-by-step is pretty easy:
Step 1: Download and install HSPL. Your existing ROM version should allow you to do this with no fiddling at all. Just hook up the phone via USB, and run the HSPL executable.
Step 2: Select the ROM you want to use. I haven't tried any of the official ROMs, as I find the cooked ones to be more desirable. I only mention this is a step because depending on which ROM you want to use, you may need to flash the radio as well.
Step 3: If you are using a ROM requiring a new radio (which many of the newer ones do), and the ROM you are installing does not include a radio ROM (most cooked ROMs don't, but i believe many of the stock ones do), download and install the appropriate radio (please see notes below). Again, just connect the phone via USB, and run the radio installer.
Step 4: Download and install the ROM you want. With HSPL installed this is again as easy as connecting via USB and running the ROM installer. Don't worry too much about MTTY at this stage - you won't need it unless you reflash several times.
That's about it. I've reflashed mine dozens of times with no problems at all. As a footnote, some people on the forums have reported problems with flashed NextG phones not connecting to the internet properly after flashing. I have tried lots of cooked ROMs (and several radios too), and so far not one has affected my ability to connect to HSDPA. My experience has been that the 2.06 radios seem to work best, while the 2.07 and earlier 2.08 got really bad reception. 2.08.50.08_2 works beautifully with mine and gets very strong reception (with maybe a little more battery drain than 2.06). The only thing I have noticed is that the available bands displayed in 3G settings may not list the 850 band - this is cosmetic only and can be changed with a simple REG file, but really isn't necessary.
Please let me know if you need any help or advice - I'd be happy to help in any way that I can......
Hey,
Yes I have actually read most of the stickies, there is only one problem.
I can't really put all the pieces of the puzzle in a good order, step-by-step. I just need to know how to do it step-by-step because right now they are all over the place and it is a little confusing.
@cheesekeeper: that is a really nice post, would you be able to add in a little more detail on how to do it such as how to install HSPL, which version and where to download.
Also, where would I download the official HTC ROM, because when I try the official website, I can't enter in my S/N because it says it isn't compatible with my device.
Any ideas? Thx!!
Would anyone mind making a video tutorial on how to do this?
The tutorial on how to flash a new rom is a summation of all steps and is as step by step as you can get. You first need to see if you can get a copy of your original rom though, so you can return to this in the event of any problems and if you need to return your phone for a warranty claim.
Then as Cheeskeeper says you'll need to install hspl. Provided your current spl is 1.42.0000 then it is easy to do. Connect to usb and run the exe file.
Then you will need to flash your new radio. Most of the newer roms require either radio 2.07 or 2.08 - there is a radio thread also in the stickies. When you extract the file you will find a .nbh file which you will need to rename to RUU_Signed.nbh (if it isn't already), download the CustomRUU and put this into the same folder as the radio file above (only these 2 files). Run the CustomRUU and the radio will be flashed.
Then flash to your rom of choice. Again there will be a RUU file and a nbh file. You can just run the RUU file (again with just the RUU and nbh files in a folder) and the rom will be installed.
After flashing do a hard reset. When the phone boots up pull the battery out and while holding the vol up and down buttons in, switch the phone on and follow the instructions on screen. That's it, done.
If you want to keep to a stock rom though without changing your spl then you will need to use sspl.
You'll find all of the steps and tools in the link at the bottom of my signature. There is also a video of the process in the stickies.
I'd suggest starting by looking at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
This pretty much explains everything you need to get started, and has links to HSPL in the first post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611787
This one contains download links to most of the radio ROMs in the first post.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
This has links to many of the stock ROMs. All of these are stickies in this group so they are pretty easy to find. If you want to try a cooked ROM instead (I'd suggest taking a look) you can find posts and links right throughout this forum - the most popular ROMs are always within the first 1-2 pages of posts......
Hey,
How do I know which version of SPL I have?

Switch phone off, hold volume down button and switch on. It will boot into a three coloured screen and will show spl version.
Do a soft reset while holding down volume until u see the bootloader screen.
Report back to us with what it states....
Once complete, getting out of the bootloader screen requires another soft reset via the red button....
Hey,
My SPL is 1.42.0000 XE <=== does that XE count?
Now how do I get out of this screen without wrecking the device (does it wreck it?)
Thx!!

No, that's the right spl for using hspl. To get back to normal, either pull the battery or press the little red button under the battery cover, as stated by band27 above.
Ok done, now what do I do?
I think I will be installing HSPL right now, is that correct?
Then what do I do?

LOL.....the instructions were already given to you on page 1 of this thread.
Just please read <<HERE>>
Steps:
1) Hard SPL
2) flash radio
3) flash rom
If Cooked rom is based on 2.10, the 2.07.50.xx or 2.08.50.xx radio's are required.
Hey,
Yea lol, ok. But I am a little confused.
Firstly, I want to install the latest official HTC ROM. Where can I download it from?
Secondly, is flashing the radio ROM really necessary for the latest official HTC ROM?
Thx!

You'll find many stock roms here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=577717
There is also a link to a Shared folder with many different versions. I believe the latest official is 1.66, but there are roms from T Mobile US going up to 2.10. For 1.66 you probably won't need to change your radio, but you will for the later roms. What radio version do you have?

Depending on the cooked rom downloaded. 2.07 and 2.08 releases extra RAM for your device to use and thus it's required if the cook decided to go that route.
I can send you a message privately about recommendations as to not offend cooks. My signature is one of the ROM's I use as another indicator to know what people are selecting.

Downgrade 32A from Capyslide to Original ROM

Hi,
I bought myself yesterday a Magic (32A), but the pre-owner flashed it with Capyslide. a few things annoy me (GPS doesn´t work properly,...) so I want to recover the original status. Therefore I downloede the original Update (RUU_Sapphire_HTC_Europe_3.05.401.3_release_signed_NoDriver.exe) but it doesn´t work - what shall I do?? please help me
Download and flash CursorSense rom from here....it's based on the last official 1.5 release and with little changes to it's integrity....it's also faster then official release is. But of course there are ways of making gps work. Btw if you wish to have gps working on cursorsense or even your original rom (which can also be found here, rooted), you first need to reflash the radio because 2.1 roms don't get along with 1.5 on new radio.
no link
sorry but there was no link - how can i install it?
For that, I cannot help you because I would have to write a looong text to explain it all to you. First of all, you need to place rom in zip format to the root of your sdcard, reboot into recovery and wipe data and after that flash the rom....you can find lots and lots of tutorials here and you need to read them all....very carefully. Btw this is not for dev related, but general. And as for the links, for pit's sake, there's a search function here and also numbers down below for you to select on what page you wish to go....you'll find it probably either on this first page or second.
Moved to General since it's not about ROM Development.
flash radio
what radio should i flash?
would this be the way

[Q] Reinstall custom ROM after stock ROM install

Hello there, and first of all excuse my english, I'll try to explain my question as best as I can
I have an htc Surround running a custom ROM (the phone was already running an old DFT ROM when I got my hands on it), after some research I am still doubting if flashing my phone with a stock ROM can lock something making it unable to reinstall the current Custom ROM on my phone.
It's just a simple question, but can't find any clear info about that, so I am asking as my last resource, I don't want to lock the bootloader or something like that.
My plan is to install a stock ROM, then upgrade it step-by-step to 7.8 using the Seven-Eighter tool, and if anything goes wrong or I don't like it, reinstall the custom ROM from always using the RUU I have on my hard disk
If need to post some info about my phone feel free to ask about it.
Regards and thanks for reading!
Hi, it's me again
Reading more I find this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
looks like I should lose my HSPL (as I refer to bootloader in my previous post) if I flash using a stock ROM using the RUU from NODO.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Regards
