What countri is my HD from? - Touch HD General

Hi,
I purchased my HTC HD off ebay and recently went to the HTC website to download the latest ROM but have had no luck because when it asks for the serial number it always tells me this update is not for my phone...
Is there a way to work out which country my phone is from by looking at the serial number?
Thank You in advance.

Hi ! Congrats for the new HD
Well, to update ROM and stuff like that please read Blackstone ROM development part of this forum. I strongly recommend you to "thoroughly" read all the wiki pages regarding updating ROM [ http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blackstone ] CAREFULLY read everything under "Flashing ROMs" . This will make you better understand all about ROMs and SPL etc. which will enable you to pick among different ROMs available. And most important - this will prevent any damage that you may cause to your HD while updating ROM / SPL.
Good Luck.

the ROM version in settings > device information should give you clues as to where it's from.

The ROM version is 1.18.707.1(23358) WWE which is ASIA if Im correct... But I tried downloading the new one from HTC and couldnt do it...
Thanks...

Beginners questions (Vario II)...

Hello to everybody. Hope it's not to annoying that i try it here. I read in the forum and in the tutorials - but it's still very confusing. Would be happy to read some answeres...
I have a new Vario II (latest model) and try to figure out some details.
1. I would like to upgrade to WM6 and found the Rom's posted here. I also read all the tutorials but i didn't find a final answere to this: When i flash the rom with a rom version posted here to just try - can i downgrade it to the original one? Sure there is a "Original Shipped ROM Version" of T-Mobile as the assumption is written in the tutorial.
2. I am just irritated because i read of some bootloader versions that are not downgradable. Is this still the case? Is the bootloader updated by a rom update? And if not when and why it is or should be updated? For what exactly the bootloader is needed?
3. I am using Windows Vista (but i also have an Computer with XP). I read all about the problems with this because of the missing Active Sync. Does this affect also the procedure of updating the rom? Will future versions be compatible with the "Windows Mobile Device Center"?
4. I am also irritated to read about radio rom updates. Are they includet in full rom updates? Why are there so much updates of the radio rom that are not given by the single providers? Are the radio roms all the same for all versions of the hermes and all the languages? is an radio update downgraded when i go back to my original rom? If not is it able to downgrade it in every version?
Sorry for alls this noob questions. It's a very new material for me and i hope to be a little more experienced in a few weeks...

Hi and welcome
Have you read our Mrvanx guides. I suggest using his guided process particularly if you do not have experience in flashing. See here:
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=section&id=7&Itemid=27
Look to the main menu on the page.
and look on the wiki here:

Thank you for your answer.
That was what i did. But the questions were still there...
[1] Hmm..yes it is possible (and there is always a "but"), but if you do upgrade it to wm6 (And the rom is not official (or not from t-mobile itself)) you will lose your guarantee on your device. So if you want to downgrade it to wm5 again you need to find a wm5 t-mobile rom (and there are alot of threads with links to download those t-mobile wm5 roms) or you could backup your rom that is on your device, but thats another story.
[2] As far as I know, POF (he's a smart-ass member) has a new bootloader and its possible to downgrade. (or you flash your wm5/wm6 (any rom for the hermes) with your sd card so you dont need a bootloader. Click)
[3] I used Vista to! And there are no problems if you READ this, Mrvanx guide!
[4] You can be irritated as much as you want but I think you're talking bull****. You can flash any hermes radio on you device but the point is, every radio is different for each person. So you need to find out what radio is best for you. And if you dont have any problems with your existing radio, why flash it?
I just flash everything on my device because I think its fun to see what happens..
everything you do with your device when i comes to flashing; IS ON YOUR OWN RISK! So dont blame us when you blow up your device.
Have fun..

Difference between upgrading Radio and ROM

Hi.
Can someone please tell what is the difference between.. radio and a ROM
i see lot ppl asking for new version of Radio or ROM. Hw r these 2 thing different??
Thanks a lot
I have been trying 2 research the same thing. I have flashed a new ROM. but have no clue on how to install a new Radio, or even where to get them... is there a list and tuts anywhere on how/what to install?
Bee searching with no luck, though I did find a Radio that CR86 had a link to on his Touch HD v2.6 rom though have no idea on how to proceed to install the Radio, so I have my default one on my Wizard atm.

You can find the Radio Upgrades at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Elf_RadioUpgrades
thanks for the info cooper_xda, made things easier, but I'm learning alot about the software side of these devices lately
LAYMAN TERMS.
Radio : phone's communication software to your network/carrier
ROM : Phone's UI Software.
Or, something like that.
correct if wrong.
And to update both radio and rom, you have to flash it, nbh files is avail at htc upgrading forum.
pretty much got it right lol
radio controls all gsm and 3g functions (calls internet etc)
rom is basically windows mobile and all OEM software

Noob Questions about ROM upgrading

Hi all,
First time poster, but Ive been lurking for a few months, and joined up a few weeks back when researching a new phone.
Please indulge me. I have done some research, but want to make sure I am correct in my assumptions.
I received my Touch HD today to replace my lost Omnia.
It has an old stock ROM (1.18.723.3 (23358) WWE - dated 11/24/08). SPL is 1.14.0000
I want to update to the latest stock ROM that I downloaded from HTC (_HTC Touch HD_MR_2009_RUU_BlackStone_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.1_Radio_52.62.25.34_1.13.25.24_Ship.exe) using the serial code in the wiki because it wouldnt accept my actual serial number.
I tried to update it expecting an error and got an invalid Vendor ID.
Here is where the assumptions start. Do i need to update the USB drivers by looking at this thread Then use USPL following this thread. Then try running the RUU again?
Thanks in advance
Chris

No need to open new thread. Threads already exist on flashing new roms like this one. All help you require can be found in that thread. Any further queries can be posted in that thread.
Please try and abide by forum rules and post in relevent threads instead of creating new ones

[Q] I need some help on Stock and Cooked ROMs and HSPL3

Hello Everyone,
I need some help and I would appreciate some feedback. Hope I wouldn't have to bore you with a lot of questions here. I just bought an HTC HD2 mobile phone (Model: T8585) WinMo 6.5 Professional with the following software specs:
SPL: SPL 1.66.0000 XE
ROM Version: 1.72.162.0 GER
Radio : 2.07.61.22_2
Protocol Version: 15.32.50.07U
OS Version: 5.2.21869
The problem is that the OS is in German and I want to change this to English. The phone is not locked to any network. I can use any mobile operator's simcard. In fact, I am currently using O2 simcard, although I bought the phone from vodafone germany. The thing is that it looks like the hardware is locked to vodafone's custom german OS, I tried to install an english OS and it failed with an error like "invalid ID" or something. I have read through a few threads here but I thought of explaining my situation here first before proceeding with anything.
So my first question is, can I use the HSPL3 in this case and what kind of ROM will I be able to flash my htc hd2 with after HSPL3? Secondly, can I still maintain my radio software without flashing a new one after hspl3? Thirdly, what's the difference between a cooked rom and a stock rom? Lastly, when a phone is bricked, does it also mean the phone is dead? Can a dead phone be reversed?
I am sorry but I'm a little bit new with HTC. It's my first smartphone actually The first 2 questions are the most important of all.
Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you

Dear user, first of all welcome on xda.
Secondly tray to use the search option, so the next time you don't need to wait till someone answer you.
A lot of new users have mostly the same question, so the answer was alreddy bean given in the past.
But okay, Now I'm replaying your questions, way not help you out.
About your question if you like to stay on stock Rom, but you will have a other language take a look on this thread, read and follow the instructions and all will become Okay.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642486
Fore your latest question about the deferent between Stock Rom and Custom Rom, well the there are deferent builders, but the idea is the same. building a Rom with the latest packaging and build on the needs of the followers.
So you will see and find lot of different, the biggest different between the custom Rom's is style!
Take a look on this thread fore finding custom Rom's and read the sticky threads first! there is a lot of usfull information on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
Fore replaying your question about HSPL, this will depends of your choice of your Rom, some Rom builders will advice you to use HSPL2 (1.66) some will advice you HSPL3 2.08, ... it depends of the Rom, and the conclusion of the Rom builder based on his test's.
I hope you have now some more information,
Best
Kurt

this method will work, but requires making a gold card which isn't free.
much easier to use hspl and then flash a stock rom in your preferred language.
if i were the op i would
1 install hspl2,(hspl3 offers nothing that hspl2 can't do, hspl3 is not "better" or a higher version, it just supports tmous phones, that's all. hspl2 is more useful to regular hd2 users.)
choose either 1.66.hspl or 2.08.hspl, doesn't really matter, you can change it whenever you like.
2 flash the rom of your choice.
you can also search for UK serial and download and flash the latest rom that way, again a search will find all you need
I am so pleased with your feedback. I guess I should have taken some time to go through all the threads on this site, instead of creating a thread which has questions which have already been answered on older threads. But I appreciate your responses
I have to admit that whoever created Hspl is just genius. I followed hspl3 installation guide and now I have been able to flash an European stocked WWE ROM (english) on my german carrier ROMed HTC. I took the S/N from one of the links Kurt provided. It's perfect now, although I am still a bit cautious and hoping nothing happens to my phone. I read a few scary threads here where some people, after some days, complained that their phones died after flashing with hspl. But I have the feeling that if one follows the steps correctly and consider the requirements keenly, probably nothing will happen. That's what I did.
Thanks a lot to you and all the guys who've contributed one way or the other on this site. I am sure I'll be back, maybe not with questions but contributions Thank you so much.

[Q] need wm 6.1 rom for my htc 3300!!!!!!

I have HTC P3300 and it came with WM6 with the following config.
ROM : 3.7.701.1 WWE
ROM date : 6/21/07
Radio : 02.69.90
Protocol : 4.1.13.30
ext Rom : 3.6.707.101
Now i want to upgrade it to WM6.1
I SEARCHED THRU MANY POSTS. i got so many answers to my questions but i have some fundamental questions and if anybody can answer that i will be really obliged.
1) I have vodafone India. Can i flash a ROM which is for another carrier. For eg. when I searched the thread "Artemis_Upgrades" I could not find any HTC WWE factory ROM which matched the above specs. BUT when i saw the factory ROM of DOPOD WM6. It matched the above specs perfectly.
so the basic question is if anything goes wrong in my upgrade then can I flash the DOPOD rom on my HTC
2) I have searched the forums but i could not find a valid factory WM6.1 ROM. If anybody can provide a link then it would be a great help to me. Please also specify which ROM (dopod or any other) is compatible to my HTC.
3) Once i get both the above factory ROMs (WM6 and WM6.1) i will be flashing my HTC and the steps that i would follow is as mentioned in this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401814
1) soft -reset using the USPL
2) flashing the ROM.
Please let me know if I need to do anything other than this!
Thank you in advance.
I suggest reading through this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=870041

pmsl neo, loving the xda spirit hahaa
bhaskaramp
follow the link that neo gave you and flash your p3300 with uspl1.11.cmon.
you cant go wrong if you follow the steps on my thread in post 1.
(post 1... here...)
if it does not work, or if you have any questions, just message me, im always here to help.
*do not try anything untill you have sucessfully done uspl1.11.cmon.
Sooo.. the point im trying to make is: you wont even need the original/official rom once you have got uspl1.11.cmon installed.
eg, if you flash a rom and it goes wrong, uspl1.11.cmon will let you flash ANY rom, so the original/official rom is not even needed!
Rn
i know i said it before but ill say it again: im always here to help
And that's that.
