Cooking a hw6915 WM6.1 ROM - Sable

Hi all,
I notice that nobody has made it possible to update the hw6915 to Windows Mobile 6.1. Is there any reason for this apart from a lack of people to do it?
If not I'd like to try doing it myself, since I know there is a lot of interest and have a lot of experience of messing with embedded firmware, for example on the Sony PSP.
Can anyone give me some pointers on how to begin? How do I dump the ROM currently on my device, for example? And how does one "merge" WM 6.1 into the ROM? Surely there is an OEM release of WM 6.1 that contains some common core which must be put into the cooked ROM.
Many thanks
EDIT: I have found a ROM dumper called grab_it. Is this suitable?

hw6915 upgrade to WM 6.1
Hello pal,
Yes, indeed, nobody has upgraded the hw6915 to WM 6.1 from what I am seeing on this forum, and this section especially.
I am really interested on upgrading my device but my knowledge on this kind of devices is just limited - although I am trying to "catch" the info's.
If you need some help - again, with my limited knowledge - please feel free to ask.
About grab_it, from what I had read on this section, there are many versions of that program so I don't know which is suitable for hw6915's ROM dump.
Regards.

FYI:the standard method to dump ROM is to use pdocread while connected activesync

Thanks for both replies. I have managed to make a dump using the 128mb version of grab_it but it is exactly 128mb... so I'm guessing there'll be a lot of 0x00 at the end of the file :/
I'm gonna try to use pdocread now..
OK, after having to hard reset my device (lol, the USB connect wouldn't work because all the scheduled tasks are corrupted), I have dumped the ROM using pdocread.
What is interesting is that the listing contained the following:
63.94M (0x3ff0000) TrueFFS
| 3.06M (0x30fc00) Part00
| 3.19M (0x330000) Part01
| 56.75M (0x38c0000) Part02
51.22M (0x3337e00) TRUEFFS
| 3.06M (0x30fc00) Part00
| 3.19M (0x330000) Part01
| 56.75M (0x38c0000) Part02
Click to collapse
But after dumping the two devices, their contents were an exact MD5 match. The "51.22MB" label is also certainly wrong. However I have now obtained the 3 files part00, part01 and part02 in RAW format.
Could anyone recommend a tool for examining these files?

Hope to see 6.1 Rom.
I love the design of 6915. Very classic

Not possible
I have attempted this numerous times, there are many threads about this inlcuding the one I started with alot of information concerning this. Several of us on here have worked on this issue, the fact remains we need alot more help.

Any news??

love to test
hey i would to love to beta test it for you. i have a 6945 which is very similar to the 6915

Hmm.. still interested in this, but I haven't a clue where to start.

I want be a beta tester

Changing pagepool on WM6

Hi!
Will http://www.modaco.com/Paul-s-guide-to-changi-t256280.html this pagepool change work in WM06? Havnt had the time to try yet!
Cheers
MS
Yep, works fine. I have it running at 4mb right now, may try 6mb to see if it makes any difference.
I think I saw a link somewhere on this forum for a program that changes the pagepool almost instantaneously with only a single soft reset and no dumping of roms, but I'm not sure if it runs on the Herald, haven't tried it yet. Can't remember what thread I saw it in though.

Already done it on wm5 mate =)
I am running the 6mb pagepool on my T-Mobile Wing, and it works great. You can definitely see the difference in performance, especially when overclocking with BatteryStatus.

Ditto!!
It's easy. Just follow the instructions to the T. Don't use the little program he made, though, since some of our dumps don't match up exactly to his dumps.
I waited 'till I had the copy of the Official ROM to do it and I can safely say that I wish I had done it earlier. I was sweating bullets when I was doing it, but it's faster, smoother and I don't have to reset nearly as often. Now after a couple of day's usage, I STILL have more memory than I had when I first turned it on before. (Of course, I did a lot more optimizing as well.)
Hi,
im somewhat of a newbie when it comes to the wing and WM6. So far i've had the phone for just over 3 days and i already overclocked to 243MHz and 270MHz for boost if i ever need it with a minimum of 69MHz using BS. Ive also used the pagepool method and i did it to 4MB.
My problem is i dont understand EXACTLY what 4MB of pagepool is, and what the difference of 4MB and 6MB really is. But I do understand that it helps resolve the low memory issue. Can someone please explain me in details what the pagepool is and the difference between 4MB and 6MB, as in what are the risks and performance changes.
Oh and btw, in terms of Overclocking. Is it fine what i did? Thank you!

Hi nKiwan!
The pagepool on windows mobile devices is an area of RAM reserved for storing applications so that they can start quicker. In terms of throughput RAM is a lot faster than the built-in-storage. Thats why the OS tries to store as many applications in the pagepool automatically. So making the pagepool smaller makes some of your applications LOAD slower but they will work faster or you can have more apps RUNNING at the same time.
Basically either your apps load faster (bigger pagepool)or run faster (small pagepool).
I run my p4350 (wing) with 4mb at the moment but i think i might go for 6mb soon.
Hi all,
i've a HTC Herald (P4350) and after the execution of the 'pdocread -l' command the result is:

Hey,guys, could you please say English ?
Hello
I maybe create new ROM, but I don't have this PDA
And how do You want to do this? If you want to cook new ROM for Alpine with WM 6.1, then you must be good at programming, because Alpine doesnt work with WM 5/6 memory controller. This old hardware cant use WM5/6/6.1 and it will never be able to.
Yes I know ......

[HELP REQUEST] converting raw dump files to flashable format.

Hi everybody,
I got 2 HP's 2xx, one of them is in Dutch, the other one is WWE.
now I want to flash my WWE one to Dutch language,
I did the following things :
I used pdocread to get the ROM dump out of the Dutch 214.
I now got the following files :
Part00.RAW (1,49 MB)
Part01.RAW (2,12 MB)
Part02.RAW (57,2 MB)
Part03.RAW (163 MB)
I thought that the Part02.RAW the image of the Dutch ROM whas, so i tried
to rename it to hpimage.bin, place it on my SD card (one that worked before)
together with bldiag.nb0
my sd card whas formatted to FAT16
but it said that there whas now download image as soon as i entered the bootloader.
now obviousley, the Part02.RAW was not the image, or im doing something terribly wrong.
so my question is, how do i convert these files, or one of these files to a flashable format for the HP IPAQ 2xx ( mines a 214 if that matters )
great thanks in advance!
i think there is a post about 21x in Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking section and brighthand site probably has more info for you

and i'm terribly sorry but i searched alot and couldnt find any thread about
i'll have a look at it again.
thanks for your fast reply.
alex.
Well I went searching again, now I did found something in the modifying and unlocking thread of the HP 2xx.
But what I did not find there, whas a ''how to'' on making the RAW ROM dump files flashable.
When I know this, my problem is totally solved and I can help people solving theirs, ( with all credits for the one that helps me )
so is there anybody who can give me a detailed explanation or a link to one
regards Alex

Could someone running MR2 (6.5.3) please do a dump?

Could someone running 6.5.3 (MR2 I believe) please do a dump for me? I would like a copy of part02.raw (IMGFS). You can follow the instructions here....

thank you for the link fire-warrior, but I'm actually looking for the Windows Mobile 6.5.3 update for the Xperia X2 which I believe is called MR2.
data from my x2:
442.75M (0x1bac0000) DSK1:
| 3.25M (0x340000) Part00
| 90.75M (0x5ac0000) Part01
| 128.00M (0x8000000) Part02
| 220.63M (0xdca0000) Part03
and i have dumped part02 as you want
http://www.multiupload.com/TGUQOLBZHX
but may i ask a question .... why do you need these files?
That's awesome, thank you so much.
From the sizes, I think I might actually need part03.raw. 220MB seems about the right size for an IMGFS.
-
There are not that many official releases of WM 6.5.3, mostly leaks and such. I would like to see the release for the X2 to see if there is anything I can use for my own ROM.
