Not waking up after extended sleep (phone not me!) - Touch HD General

I bought an Orange locked HD from ebay recently, after following this board for some time, and have successfully unlocked it and am now using it with O2.
I'm very happy with the phone and its functions except for one major problem, it won't wake up after it has been in sleep mode overnight without a soft reset.
It also occasionally freezes while in use but I cannot discern any particular pattern to these occasions and again a soft reset is the only way. I have tried several of the suggestions for freezing elsewhere on this forum (and have done a hard reset) but without success.
It appears elsewhere that this may be a intermittent hardware fault so I have emailed HTC regarding this and await their response but would appreciate any assistance from the forum.
What are my options under HTC's warranty as the phone must be less than 12 months old, is it transferable to a second or third owner?
I'm using stock Orange ROM WWE 1.19.61.1

HTC warranty
bump
I am trying to get a response from HTC under warranty, and started by contacting them by email through their website. They replied saying they couldn't help as I'd not given the IMEI or Serial number (neither were asked for on the email form and I did give an outline of the problem and just asked for advice)
They gave me an activity number and said to respond via http://ContactUs.europe.htc.com/wFrmMailLogin.aspx which brought up my original question but not their reply.
I then sent my IMEI and serial number but am still waiting for a reply. Has anyone managed to get a reply from this 'service'?

Solution to freezing problem requiring soft reset!
I finally got a return number from HTC but as I haven't got an original receipt (bought off ebay) and it might be a software (Orange) problem decided they would probably not repair it FOC.
Decided to install the latest 1.56 ROM using USPL following the excellent guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505377
This has resolved the freezing problem completely. Hopefully this may help others although I've not seen anyone else with an unlocked Orange HD with an O2 sim reporting the same problem.

OT: Random XDA Reboots

This is slightly off topic, but I figured this board was still the best place to ask (and hopefully get an answer).
Has anyone experienced random soft resets from their XDA? Often when I press the power button to turn on the screen it just resets on me. After the reset, I often have voicemail - so apparently while the screen is off, the XDA is freezing up not receiving calls or SMS and then reboots when I turn it on.
I have had this happen to 3 of 4 XDA's now. When this happened with my 1st two XDA's, I called TMobile support. They had me hard reset and when this did not resolve the issue, they replaced the unit (it took a day or two for symptons to re-appear). My 3rd XDA was replaced on an out of warranty repair (cracked screen at concert), leading to my 4th XDA which is my current one.
It is a Tmobile USA XDA. Right now I am running WM2003 4.0.11 and RS 6.24.
I find it hard to believe I've ended up with all these hardware defects. Which is why I wanted to ask other users if they've had this problem. I am debating re-flashing the Official Tmobile ROM, waiting to see if the problem continues and then getting another hardware replacement. My other thought was to wait for the Official TMobile WM2003 ROM and try that version. Could this be some software defect?
-murph
I noticed the same thing happening when I was running WM2003 4.0.11 and RS 6.24. It became so bad that I went back to the original Tmobile ROM and the problem disappeared.
Also, I heard this is corrected in WM2003 4.01 ( the latest tmobile update) that is circulating out there. But so far I have not gotten it and tested it.

Strange Problems - Applications Closing

2 days ago my Vodafone V1605 (HTC 1.35.255.2 ROM) started to exhibit a strange problem in that programs would just close themselves.
Phone would work fine for a few minutes after reset, then if I started an application the app would close itself, even if I select the Start button the menu would just disappear.
I reset, hard reset, removed SD card, still same problem even with no SD card and no third pary apps, also removed battery overnight.
Just flashed back to original Vodafone ROM (1.20.161.6) and still the same problem.
Has anyone come across this before as I am at a loss to fix it, could it be a strange hardware issue?
Any help appreciated!
Hi skearon unfortunately it sounds like you have the screen alignment issue, my orange m3100 had the exact same symptoms. I found if I took the battery out for a while and put the phone in a cool place it would work ok for about 2mins then the same things would start happening, try contact vodafone for a warranty claim if you can.
to check if it is the SA issue use the few minutes that the phone works ok to go to the screen alignment applet in settings, continual run this and see if the screen goes out of alignment.
There are possible fixes in the wiki but the best bet is to get it fixed by vodafone.
Orange refered me to HTC vodafone will probably do the same.
Good luck

Thanks for the quick reply Rob, not the news I wanted but at least I'm not alone!
I also noticed that after installing mButton that the apps aren't closed they are still running in the background plus if I open the keyboard the system goes mad with the start menu appearing and disappearing all the time.
As it works for a while after being switched off, is it a heat related problem?
Possibly not directly the SA problem but related though. Some hermes are very sensitive to the expansion caused by heat put in pressure on the screen digitizer and sometimes like yours putting pressure on the screen - leading to phantom taps on the screen. i.e. when you open keyboard a bit of pressre in the wrong place and a menu can appear and disappear and programmes close by themselves. Whether the screen is also misaligned is pot luck but it has the same cause.
Rob61280's advice is absolutely right get it replaced under warranty rather than trying the fixes because you have the more serious problem and it's more than just pure SA issue.

Vodafone Ireland's response is "we are aware of the problem and are awaiting a software upgrade from the manufacturer"
Does anyone have a good web link that definately points to a hardware problem, ideally from another Vodafone company?
My V1605 has HTC's 1.35.255.2 ROM installed (but didn't tell Vodafone IE that!)

see here, unfortunately applies to HTC TyTns but since HTC, the manufacturer admit the issue then this must be good ammunition against Vodaphone. It would be good if you can also show the more obvious SA problem as well as the closing programme matter, as this shows a more direct connection to the HTC statement.
If you can show the more straightforward SA issue then Vodaphone cannot claim a ROM issue. A simple google search will throw up tons of references to it being a hardware matter. In addition other suppliers HTC included are exchanging these with few questions asked.
Might also be helpful if someone can post a link to the original HTC statement.

Thanks guys for the advice, Vodafone IE have agreed to replace the unit so fingers crossed for a good one next time
Update: Vodafone IE have agreed to collect the faulty unit but are now saying it will be some weeks before I get a replacement as they are waiting for new ones from HTC :-(
PLease NEed Serious Help
Today i have been having the same reported problem with my 1 month old v1605. The thing is i bought this over ebay. I live in Malta and vodafone malta does not sell this phone. I bought this phone from an ebay seller in the Uk.
What can i do to have this fixed under warranty any suggestions please??
Thanks in Advance
Ken
Yep. I have had this problem too. And my TyTN is not the first problematic lot.
I installed magicbutton and, everytime when I open new apps, others closed.
But reading this topic, I realigned the screen (just one time) and everthing is fine now.

Screen lights up (but nothing else) intermittently

Hi,
I have an M3100 that has a problem where intemittently the screen is blank (although it does light up ok and isn't broken). It has worsened and now more often than not the screen is blank. I simunlocked it about 6 months ago with the tool from Buzz and have happily been running my tmobile sim.
Other than the simunlock it is a vanilla M3100. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could try to fix it? I have tried a hard reset and was wondering about maybe flashing with a different rom.
Presumably if this doesn't work it may actually be a faulty screen.
I made the HUGE mistake of ringing orange thinking they would arrange to fix or replace it, but the first thing they did was check their systems to find that my imei was registered against my tmobile SIM and because I had unlocked without paying them to do it I had voided my warranty! Grrr.
Does anyone have any tips?
Thanks in advance,
Dan.
same problem
I can't help but I also have the same problem. Mine is a tmobile vaio II flashed with the HTC 2.05.255.1 01/17/07 rom. It used to work fine but now frequently the screen goes completely white. I have tried doing a hard reset (in case it was some software I installed), however this has not fixed it.
It is covered by warranty but I obviously need to flash the original tmobile rom back before I return in.

new to 8525, bought off ebay, seems to be a lemon, please advise

First, let me say that I'm definitely a newbie to the 8525, but have spent some time looking over the wiki and searching for answers to my problem, only to come up empty...
I bought an AT&T 8525, with the original WM 5 installed, from eBay. The device has a 14 day warranty and physically appears to be in excellent condition. However, it has two very serious issues that I can't seem to find a simple solution for. Any thoughts, help, etc on the items below would be greatly appreciated!
1. After using the device and turning it off, after it sits for a while it will not power back on. Pressing the power button or none of the other buttons make a difference. The battery is reading fully charged and it still happens when it is plugged into a charger. The only way to make it respond is to perform a soft reset on it. The cycle then just starts over, having reset it about 10 times in a few hours of playing with it.
2. When it reboots, the following appears on the AT&T splash along the bottom:
M 05
S 04
B 06
D 2.15
"No GSM" then appears (I've read about this issue in the wiki just a bit) This occurs with my valid SIM card from another cell phone inserted. When looking at the device info in Settings, the Radio Version label is blank. Upon switching to the hardware tab, the IMEI is also blank.
It just now froze while on, after only performing a soft reset and leaving it with no running items in the background.
Any tips for repairing this, etc appreciated. I really like the form factor of the phone and want to use it, but unfortunately I'm afraid that I'm going to need to send the device back to the seller!
Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any responses.
Sounds like your radio is dead:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349461
Send it back!
What you have is a PDA. NOT a functioning Phone.... With no IMEI your phone function is gone totally. You need to read about any problems the phone has, the seller has to list it legally or will have to refund especially if paid through paypal.
If you do buy a Hermes through ebay, make sure there is no problem with radio or screen\keys. These can be hard to fix and may be a sign of other problems. Also keep a copy of all Emails sent and recieved to\from the seller so you have proof of whats was said. Can only help if the seller decides to be a pain about refunding cash.
Cheers...
I have a bricked 8525 and have those two exact symtoms. If mtty doesn't get it fixed, throw it back to the seller.
Mate, I wouldn't even bother playing with it. If something is different and can be tracked back to you then I can guarantee YOU'LL be blamed for the condition. Send it back for a refund and look for a working Hermes, don't screw around with it or you'll be out of pocket with a virtual paperweight...

[Solved] HTC HD2 Touchscreen not working, not responding, frozen, malfunctioning

The Problem: My HTC HD2 touchscreen has progressively gotten worst over 2 months. At first, the keyboard was typing up wrong alphabets, then major function keys begun to malfunction, and later the whole screen. From XDA reviews, I found that changing Radio, WM, or Android ROM do not help.
Solution:
This instruction may apply to Tmobile USA users. In my search for a Do-It-Yourself fix, I searched internet for several days to no avail. Amazon.com sells Touchscreen and Digitizer but their results were inconsistent; the replacement also required time, skills & instruments that I do not have.
Tmobile: Tmobile (800 number) asked me to restore OS, but it did not work. They asked me to take it in the Tmobile store. The store associate looked at the phone, but they did not want to do anything with the phone as I did not buy my phone from Tmobile - they directed me to HTC or a local repair shop. Local repair shop was going to charge $100 for a repair and turn around time of 15 days.
HTC : I called HTC (888 356 2375). As the phone was still under warranty, they offered to take a look at it & repair it. HTC also mentioned that if the warranty is void for any reason, they would charge $39.00 for a triage fee and call me to confirm the repairing cost (in addition to triage fee). HTC mentioned that any illegal softwares found on the device would void the warranty.
Restore to OEM:
I had to restore my softwares to OEM as I installed a newer radio, HSPL, MAGLDR, and a custom windows ROM. To do so, following ROM was flashed :
RUU_Leo_1_5_TMOUS_2.10.531.0_Radio_Signed_15.34.50 .07U_2.08.50.08_2_Ship
Flashing above ROM restored ORIGINAL OEM radio, SPL, and Windows ROM. It also removed MAGLDR.
After restoring softwares to OEM, I sent the phone in. The repair was done by HTC without any charge. After sending the phone in, I had my phone back in 1 week - fairly quick service compared to all the other options I had at hand.
In the process, HTC kept me informed via email regularly. I talked to several HTC reps and they were very accommodating and courteous. I mentioned to HTC that my battery drains very easily. Promptly (in 2 days), HTC sent me a replacement battery for free. They mentioned that as long as the phone is under warranty, they will replace accessories ONCE for free. I will buy HTC again despite the touchscreen problem.
Immediately after receiving the phone, I installed newest Radio, HSPL, MAGDLR & my first Android NAND [HD2_Core_Droid_Desire_HD_V1.4_NAND_ONLY_LEO1024_TOUS]. The android ROM is rocking even harder straight out of box.
Enjoy.
Had the same, perfect service from HTC.
Got it back in a box that said "im back" .. Took 4 weeks though.
This made my decision to stay with HTC in the future.
Same problem, possible not yet solved
My UK T-Mobile HD2 started this in December 2010, I found that 3 or 4 hard resets got it going, but the next day it did it again so sent to T-Mobile repair center, they stripped it put it back together. No Fault Found. Updated the firmware (well re-installed it as there was no newer version avaialble at the time and sent it back to me.
It worked a treat for 5 weeks then the problem was back. Sent away again, Firmware update. No Fault Found (T-Mobile had now released the 3.14 ROM) so I did get an update this time, again came back working. Even better this time as the new radio version allowed me to run an SD Android Build.
You know where this is going, lasted 3 or 4 weeks, same again, Back to T-Mobile Store, this time I did not try a hard reset prior to taking it in, so they could see the fault, I did one reset in store and the fault persisted as it always did after the first two or three, and then off to the repair centre again.
Its due back in the next day or two, No Fault Found!!! Firmware updated
I guess it will be going back again a 3 to 5 weeks.
Perhaps I should drop an e-mail to HTC to see if they can help.
Do you know what they did to yours, did they replace anything?
Cheers Bashy...
My display was soo broken that an firmware upgrade didnt help, not even for a second.
On the repair note (0eu) it said that my screen was replaced.
I had the same problems as in the OP.
Running beter then ever now.

No doubt, Tmobile attempts to be helpful. But, I consider HTC, as a manufacturer, to be well-prepared to deal with their own product's issues. If you have these problems repeatedly, I recommend you contact HTC directly. They may send you a new replacement instrument altogether. I had several positive surprises from HTC.
HTC No Longer Repairs HD2
I know this is an old thread, but I have an HD2 with a digitizer that quit working that I wanted fixed. I just called HTC and was told that they have not been able to find a proper way to fix the phone and that they would not be able to repair it even if I paid them. This came from the customer service manager. Both the service rep and I were left without words. He couldn't believe that this was the response as he has never heard of such a thing. HTC has taken the HD2 out of their repair database. Seems pretty sketchy to me. Obviously they know about the problem and it sounds like they should issue a recall on the product if it consistently breaks on people with normal use and they have no way of repairing it.
HD2 screen not working
They fixed mine on Feb 22, 2011 for free under a warranty. I suggest you do not give them the diagnosis of digitizer is not working. Instead, just tell them the problems you have and let them tell you what is wrong with the phone.
If is going to cost an arm and a leg to fix the phone or a 1 month of outage from cellphone, I recommend you get a new phone from Craigslist or eBay. HD2 are dirt cheap now. Good luck.
hd2 is dead

Yep - i'm not surprised. I purposely bought the HD2 to get dual boot setup. Lasted two months and then screen stopped responding when screen locked. Eventually could not unlock at all. I stripped the phone, put in new screen and digitiser and new keypad buttons and then flashed back to original rom too.
GUESS WHAT??? STILL BUSTED.
So you can try many fixes found online, but I reckon once it busted don't waste your money just bin it.

From what i've seen too, it is very difficult to actually repair the digitizer without causing new secondary problems. I paid my repair shop over 155 usd to repair an hd2 with usb and touchscreen problems and they just replaced the virtually the entire hd2 (mainboard+LCD+digitizer). And it still had problems in the end!

hey dood, i had nand on my US tmoble HD2 touch screen went out, i have a few posts you should follow if you are going for warranty.
i had to download the software from the tmoble website..... You will need an IMEL number for this ...... or go and try to find your stock rom on the interwebs...... have a secondary SD card (not the one in your phone) follow the SPECIFIC steps and drop your new file on the new sd card and replace it with the one in your phone then follw normal booting steps in the tri color screen.,..... i do have a post that is a quck rundown with a little bit more info........ but the main thing is.... if you send it for warranty you have to put YOUR (country/carrier specific) stock rom on or they will fully charge you....... hope this helps....... other than that its a phone issue i belive its the screen digitizers.... so if not under warranty thats what it will cost to fix
Thank you
Thank you. that helped me as well.
