HowTo - Customize Hardware buttons - Touch Cruise 2 General

Greetings,
Here is a way from me, to make it possible, to customize your hardware buttons.
Step one:
Start the attached FDC Taskmanager, then tap <Menu>, <Options>, set enabled on "Create RegEdit Shortcut".
Now you can open the Regedit - Shortcut in Startmenu ( <Programs> - <System> ) and .reg - files will be associated with FDC-TM.
Now doubletap on the attached .reg - file, select importing.
Ready!
Restart the device!
Feature lost: Navipanel not start automatically, when you put the phone in carkit. Copy the Navipanel.lnk in Startmenu or lay it of the navigation-button.
Step two:
1. klick "Start"
2. klick "Settings"
3. klick "Hardware-Buttons"
4. customize

edit: when is it not easy enough, give me your adress and I will come to you and do it for you!

Thanx for the effort and for sharing Mirko!
I will definitely try it

bravo super boulot

Still starting
Hi!
I have succesfully created the two buttons in the control panel of the PDA and assigned them to right and left program key. And the work!
My problem is that the Tomtom and Footprint also start, which is a feature I would like to remove. I would much rather have them start the old fashion way, as this is a phone as a primary device.
Can anyone direct me to a solution. I would like to keep the programs installed but can as a last resort remove them if it helps (and if I can).

This problem occurs when you do not set the "NaviService" service to Manual and stop it. See the first post in this thread from Mirko, he explains it.

@ Snwstrm
U must read my post, stands:
"Now go with the FDC Taskmanager to "Services", stop "NaviService(NPS0)", long klick it, then change to "set manual". When you not do this, you have a double assignment on buttons."

edit: Argh! Not seen, Evincar was almost answering, sorry!

No such service
Hi!
Thanks for a quick reply. I don't have FDC but Pocket Controller Pro as a task handling program and I cannot see any service that resembles the one U are talking about. My guess is that it differs depending on localization, but I will try to get a hold of FDC program to verify.
I tried to get help from HTC, but they couldn't help me. I guess they have some deal w TomTom and don't want to make it easy to switch or eradicate their program. They wrote to me about PocketToolman but it did nothing new, just a nifty way to access controlpanel.
Keep on looking,
Snwstrm

What about Google? FDC TM is freeware.
Greetz Mirko!

Victory!
You are absolutely right! I will have to contact SOTI regarding their software. FDC worked wonders and now I see no trace of TomTom or Footprint. Just the way I wanted.
Thanks!
Snwstrm

Nice, can help!

Thanks for this. I switched from Vox and I was quite angry, when I had to tap to top right to confirm something. Now footprint does this.

go to HKLM\service\NaviService and change value form default to 0???? and I don't understand about how to set manual could you explain me more.
Thank you very much

Remap left softkey on Today screen?

Greetings,
I'd like to remap the left softkey on the Today screen to go to something else besides calendar. I've searched all the forums and have turned up several apps (vijaytoggletoday, smartskey, and some others) but they all seem to be geared toward either totally removing the soft key menu bar from the Today screen, or changing the behavior of the hardware soft key buttons. I just want to change what the left soft key points to from Calendar to something else. I saw a post sometime ago where someone had remapped it to Comm Manager, so I know it's possible. How do I do it?
Thanks!
SP
Search google for soft key changer.
Also available on Buzzdev.net
Also in a registry hack on the wiki, in the Today keys.
V
what did you find that removed the softkeys all together?
Regarding remapping, look for SoftKeyApplet or SoftKeyAppletEx ..
To change the application launched by the Today screen Left soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Today\Keys\112\Open = "\Windows\Calendar.exe" (REG_SZ string, including quotes)
To change the title of the Left soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Today\Keys\112\(Default ) = Calendar (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
To change the application launched by the Today screen Right soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Today\Keys\113\Open = "\Windows\Calendar.exe" (REG_SZ string, including quotes)
To change the title of the Right soft key:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft \Today\Keys\113\(Default ) = "Calendar" (REG_SZ string, no quotes)
Note that 113 normally doesn't exist by default, and probably needs to be created Also note that there is at least 1 application that allows you to set these through a GUI, developed by FdcSoft called SoftKeyAppletEx
gravejoker vjtoggletodayII will remove the softkeys
Thanks guys...
Chaotic, exactly what I was looking for.. .thanks!
Grave, as chaotic said, vijaytoggletoday will do it, as well as DCINoBar.

There isn't callhistory.exe in the windows folder.
Try what Vijay suggested .. that should give you shortcuts to the Call history and Speed dial .. then remap one of the soft keys to it ..
And no .. I dont think there's any CallHistory.exe anywhere ..

customize the HTC CommManager ?

hi all,
I'm wondering if it is possible to customize the HTC CommManager and add some new shortcut.
Typically, the most usefull for me is, from the CommManager interface :
- to be able to activate/desactivate WM5 Storage (or at least open the WM5 storage)
- to be able to launch directly the WAP (or/and WEB) connexion.
Is there a way to customize the commManager ?
Rgds.
I ran a search for you. It's pretty easy to locate what you need with it.
This is as far as you can customize the Comm Manager as far as I know.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\CommManager]
"0"="FlighMode"
"1"="Phone"
"2"="WLAN"
"3"="Bluetooth"
"4"="DataDisconnection"
"5"="Ir"
additional keys
"6"="vibrate"
"7"="Activesync"
From this thread.
wow. this is cool.
i will try it
thanks man!

But in fact, I have already located this registry key...but no way to customize the function (by adding an appication path for example).
And beyond that, the other difficulty is to create some shortcut or commande line that could connect/disconnect to the WAP and WEB.
Unfortunately, I don't see anyhting about that in the thread you indicate me.
Any other ideas ?
Thanks again.
Rgds
I don't think there is any way to modify the application path for a given function as it's built into the dll (IIRC). A while back I found a way to add a "disconnect" option on the radio popup (when you click the radio on the toolbar) but I never saw a way to force it to connect.

You may want to take a look at this tool, one of the most valuable tools I've installed on my Polaris: 'QuickMenu' of Chinese origin. It replaces the startmenu on the windows logo, while the original windows startmenu is still available under 'Start'.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-quickmenu-v2-7.html
Functions:
- Cascading StartMenu (fully configurable)
- Cascading Settings menu (windows mobile settings)
- TaskManager (easy switch and close functions from the startmenu)
- TaskSwitcher (create alt-tab shortcut to QM-active-next which you can map to a hardbutton)
- Hibernate/Suspend/Reboot from startmenu
- Execute ...
- SIP panel selector
- Bluetooth toggle (connectable, discoverable, off)
- Batterystatus (in percentage)
- Memorystatus (internal or memorycard)
There's no installer, unzip the archive to a 'quickmenu' folder in your program files and run the exe once. If you don't like it, delete the folder. The only issue I had with it on my previous device was that the 'Settings' menu which links to WM's personal, system and connection settings didn't work correctly, possibly because it was mapped to the 'Settings' function, in stead of the dutch 'Instellingen'. The rest of the functions worked fine.
My Polaris has an english system and QM works perfectly. Great little tool.
"You may want to take a look at this tool, one of the most valuable tools I've installed on my Polaris:"
Thanks for this. A top tool.
Indeed a great tool, but can you disable the battery status on the upper right corner ? It is messing with the task manager and i cant close or select which program i want.
I tried disabling it from the settings of the program itself, and the battery status gets removed, but i still cant see the task manager icon.
Go into Settings/Task Manager/Button tag and re-check the "Enable Quick Menu on Today Screen"

Shortcut/App to Launch HTC QuickMenu (Please?)

I have a Fuze with everything turned off but what I want (runs quick and smooth). I really don't want 3rd party bloatware and other "TaskManager" or "QuickMenu" applications. I am simply looking for the syntax/shortcut (or maybe small app to launch the built-in HTC QuickMenu that is in the top right corner of the Windows Mobile screen.
I like this QuickMenu and the options that are available... most of all I like that it's already a part of my phone (so hopefully nothing more to install but a shortcut). From what I can tell it's part of the "taskservice.dll" that is loaded in \HKCU\Software\HTC\BootLauncher\TaskManager\
Since the Icon in the top-right for the QuickMenu is so small (and I hate getting out the stylus) I wish to map a shortcut/command-syntax preferrably to Right-Soft Key, or possibly a hardware button like PTT.
I've contacted HTC by email and they simply said it couldn't be done but I know that's probably not the case... I just need a super genious hacker to give me the right syntax/steps to make it work.
Thank you in advance for whoever can help on this!!!!
Michael
*** Please Relocate Thread if I have somehow posted it in the wrong section. Thanks!!! ***
all you have to do to launch QM from a hardware button is maake a shortcut to programs. then, go into \settings\personal\buttons and select your program to run from one of your buttons.
you can also go into qm settings and select the option to replace the start menu.
also, QM is a third party app.
SVI,
Thanks for the reply.. I guess I should have clarified that I am familiar with the steps for creating a shortcut to an EXE however the QuickMenu that is built in to HTC's Fuze is calling a DLL at startup... so the trick would be how do I shortcut/call a DLL file that has been started up as a service??
I am not interested in any other 3rd party QuickMenu, just wanting to find the way to call up the one that is already installed on my phone... ie. by pointing a shortcut (or possibly small launch app) to start up the "taskservice.dll" with whatever tags/options to open the menu on the Today Screen.
Thanks for any additional info you may be able to provide!
Could you found the solution?
no answers yet
Sancho,
I have still been unable to find the solution, and would very much STILL BE interested in finding it. In the meantime I have just used a shortcut to the built-in Taskmgr.exe (\Windows\Taskmgr) or TaskManagerApp.exe also found in Windows. Both programs are different versions of Task Manager and I found that I like Taskmgr a bit better because I can switch to an open application using that version of Task Manager. However I still like the HTC Quickmenu in the top right corner (other than the fact that it is way to small to hit with your finger) and would love to find a way to point a shortcut to the opening it up while on the Today Screen so that I can see running apps, easily close all, switch to one in particular, or see my power & memory settings.
If anyone still has any ideas on how I might accomplish this I would be extremely grateful! Again I am wanting to do this Natively, using the HTC QuickMenu (Taskservices.dll) already built-in and not interested in installing another 3rd party app that takes up memory.
Thanks in Advance for any help that may be offered!
Michael
Thank you for your fast reply!
Re: Shortcut/App to Launch HTC QuickMenu
I just got a fuze and when i went through the settings i found out what your probably trying to do. Go to Start/setting/the small tab on the bottom that you would find your ''hold end key button''/ Hold end key setting. when you get there , they will be a couple settings relating to what you want your end key shorcut to be. then you will click on ''access quick menu'' (or something like that).
The HTC Quick Menu 2.1 (Build 1918.3631) settings:
(Start / Settings / Systems / Task Manager / Button)
Enable the "X" button to end running programs
End programs by tapping "X"
End programs by tapping and holding "X"
Enable Quick Menu on Today screen
(no more...)
I don't think that it is possible to find a shortcut for this. (do hope that I'm wrong and somebody can find the way and share it here though)
But I would like to recommend one of my favorite light apps which can realize what you desired for. It is called HButton and created by an xda contributor, please referhere:
http://hbutton.dyndns.org/
In Hbtton settings, the <Ok/Close> function actually point to the upper-right corner of the screen.
Think you will like it.
No, thanks, I don't want to install 3rd party apps. : )
I think, need to find a solution here, as under Windows the "rundll32.exe" the "taskservice.dll" to run.

WG > I looked at the link provided and I am not quite sure I understand. from the looks of it.. it would appear to be another Task Manager type application? But are you saying that when configuring the "<Ok/Close>" function and using it, that it will activate the Quick Menu on the Today Screen by "pointing ot the upper-right corner of the screen"? or have I misunderstood you?
If in fact it activates the Quick Menu on the Today screen by activating the upper-right corner, then it may be an app worth trying.
If you could reply and please clarify that would be great.
If anyone else has additional info to add on how I might do this natively that would be AWESOME!
Thanks in advance for your help!
wow... lol. ok so I guess there's been a few more posts since WG posted and my reply to his was a bit outta place.
But it sounds like Sancho unerstands what I am looking for.
I am not looking for another Task Manager/Menu, or the "Quick Access List" menu as defined by the "Long Press End Key" in the System Settings.

S2U2 - EndCall button

Guys,
Just used "Search" button, but didn`t find any clue.
I am a proud user of S2U2, and it`s a great software (freeware).
There`s a great option in it - "turn of software buttons", so you can have a clean screen and only clock on it. Unlocking by pressing the Right D-Pad.
Since our device has no D-Pad, I was wondering, if it is possible to assign, i.e. EndCall button long-press for unlocking.
Those button changing apps, didn`t help. Any clue?
Thanks in advance.
Cmon, Guys! Maybe it is possible to do with the prog TopazKbdControl_GSM_1.3.2? Some argument for the iLock.exe file?
I think this might be the wrong thread for this questions.
You sure will get a quick answer if you post a reply in A_C's S2U2 thread here!
Maybe you just missed a setting or trick...
Already reposted there a couple of days ago, but no answers. All I wanna do is make the option of "hide all softkeys" in S2U2 available on our device. Did not find anything in the S2U2 settings...

The option you are looking for is in S2U2 Settings -> Appearance
Maybe S2U2 Settings -> Advanced -> "Don't use keyboard hook" or S2U2 Settings -> Others -> "Directional PAD" is worth a try...
If I understand you right, you should search for gfx that is transparent. You could set them as buttons or slider, can't be seen, but is still functional?
No its actually pretty easy. Performing a Long press on the End key launches "Endkey.exe" from the Windows folder.
I did this for setting up Comm Manager to the the End key.
I just don't know if you can do it if S2U2 installs to another folder outside of windows. You can try making a copy of S2U2's exe file, renaming it to "EndKey.exe" and copying it to the Windows folder.
Some apps will run from any folder.
I've also seem people make a little program that would run, launch another program, then close. I think Opera does that in Manila (OperaL.exe).
You can also try creating a shortcut... and changing the extension from ".lnk" to ".exe". Extensions are really useless, mostly for humans to keep files organized. Might not work on WM but worth a shot.
yeah, that`s true. Thank you! But what special argument should I add to the *.exe, or *.lnk file to perform "unlock"?
