Flexilis Mobile Security Beta

Hey Everyone,
Wanted to tell all of you about a neat app we're developing, called Flexilis.
It's a mobile security suite for Windows Mobile devices, that keeps your device and data safe from loss, theft, hackers, viruses, malware, spam, and more.
We've currently opened signups for our private beta testing, if you're interested in checking it out, just hit up http://beta.flexilis.com and sign up, and feel free to chat about the product here
If anyone has questions or runs into trouble, just shoot us an email at [email protected] and we'll help you out!
-Chris
Community Director,
Flexilis Inc.
[email protected]
Also, if any of you request an invite and it hasnt gotten granted within a day or so, let me know and I'll take care of it.
If you weren't asking for so much personal information, you might actually get people to try your app...
we're actually working on revising that, the reason we ask for the phone number is because it's used to sms you your download link for the software later on in the process, we're in the process of moving that to later on in the process, as well as an explanation of why we ask for it.
Thanks for the feedback!

Hey man,
nice thing with this soft, that we give the phone number is not so a big problem i think. could you post a little bit infos about the program? Cause on your side there a not many informations.
But i ithink i'll give it a try...
I just have one little question, on you privacy page you write:
When you use the Flexilis Services, our servers automatically record certain information about your usage. These logs may include information such as the IP address, mobile device identification number, phone number, operating system, version information, wireless carrier, web requests, browser type, browser language, referring pages, landing pages, pages viewed, or other usage information.

Why do record the pages we visit?
we're still working on a little bit of a tour/walkthrough area of the software on the front page, as we get closer to public beta, but for now there's nothing there yet. My first post in this thread gives a brief summary of it though. Feel free to shoot me an email at [email protected] with any questions!
-Chris
There's nothing in the software that tracks the pages you view or anything, what that refers to is on our end we track what pages users use on the flexilis website the most, much the same way other websites do, to track what pages and content on our site our most popular, etc.

I'm still not sure what your program do, but it certainly doesn't behave the way I expect.
1) Why to require authorization so often?
2) Contrary to the stated phone number is not accepted for authorization. Only email.
3) I don't really know what you mean by "a few minutes", but currently Flexilis is authorizing my phone already for more than two hours. I see no progress bar and I don't understan what's going.
4) I can't stop authorization process.
5) Why the authorization process continues even when I close all connections? Did you invent new method of communication?
6) The program is hidden from task managers and process viewers. What for?
I didn't sniff the traffic but currently behavior of your program reminds more of malware rather than security software.
My conclusion: As I don't understand what your program is doing, I'm not going to test it anymore until additional guidance is provided.
Sorry, if I'm sounding harsh. It's just writing style (tough work, you know )
No worries
1] once it's authorized the first time, it shouldnt have to authorize again, what kind of phone are you authorizing it on? we're making some fixes to the authorization process to make it even simpler that should roll out in the next release.
2] if you're outside of the US, you might need to add your country code and such if that's the case, let me know, or send me an email to [email protected] so we can look into it.
3] per all authorization questions, it'll try til its authorized, again we're fixing this.
4] per the it being hidden from task managers, we've given this some discussion, for right now it's a security feature to try to prevent theives from disabling the software, though we might fix that in the future to have the app visible in there somehow.
As far as being more indepth on all of the features, we are working on a tour of sorts to explain it all before the beta goes public.
Thanks for the feedback!

Authorizing a device ... what a hassle. I finally gave up since I couldn't tell if it was doing anything. No more testing for or feedback from me.
fredcatsmommy: sorry it didnt work out for you. hopefully in the future when that's fixed (should be less than a week), we can lure you back, it does some amazing stuff, but we do run into bugs from time to time due to the vast number of windows mobile devices out there, and only having a small test bed of them to work with. Keep your eyes peeled, and we'll have that fixed soon!

I think you need to tell us what the app actually does?
I have read this and your site and still don't know what it does?
Will hold off on trying it till I know.
How long is the initializing and activating supposed to take?
seriously, the authorizing bugs should have been worked out before releasing a beta here. we cant even tell if its running, authorizing, stealing information from our devices, etc.. I surely hope this is a legit app youre pushing, if so, FIX IT, so we can at least see what it does.
thx
I installed and authorized with no issues what-so-ever... contrary to what everyone else is saying everything seems to work just fine. works great and doesn't seem to take much memory... not a single complaint here!
Advertising your application for beta purposes is usually not a problem. But, it seems you are here more for "recruiting" testers than anything else. Looks like you joined for this purpose only.
My suggestion to you, is to give a little more description on your develpoment. Seems there are too many questions going unanswered here.

I have an HTC Mobul/Titan using default Rom/Radio with WinMo 6.1
To install it I just did what I would any other and installed it onto internal memory...
Correction: The application works just fine if you don't have push e-mail (aren't connected to a remote exchange server), I have been having problems all day with my push e-mail from mail2web which I use to forward my work e-mail to my phone. I have therefore decided to remove it as I can't afford to have it interfere with work.

New ROM for Orange customers

HTC has released a new ROM for Orange customers.
It can be found on the HTC website.
good find, now if only htc would be so kind as to give a changelog
Could anybody who has downloaded this tell us what the major differences are please. Don't want to be bothered to download it if it tries to fix a problem i haven't got - if it aint broke etc.

Same here, I want to know what changes it will make, No point doing all that hard work for a minor bug that I don't have.
Thanks.

Well I've downloaded and installed the update - I'm one of those "strange" fellows who assumes that an update should just be applied as it will "update" things.
What have I found:
No real differences to anything at all. I did have a bug whereby the browser would start turning itself off randomly (both WiFi and 3G and with 1 or more tabs open & many different sites so no idea what caused it - happened both straight after a reboot and also when been left on for a few days) This no longer seems to be happening.
My main bugbear with it now is that I've found that I can't see all the programs that I used to have on the Store. I can see Twidroid free but not Twidroid Pro (which seeing as I've paid for it I'd rather like to download again!) I also can't see Space Physics - again I can see the lite version but I've paid for the full game and that's not showing anywhere.
I can see other programs that I've previously purchased & able to download (CoPilot, Retro Defence) but it's irritating in the least to not get the full versions of other programs I've paid for already.

I wouldn't worry about that. It sometimes happens when a carrier releases an update. They need to 'validate' it with the big G before it gets access to protected/paid apps...

Thanks for the reply, frankly I haven't come across the bug on my browser, which goes to say, I won't need this update.
Shahin
I have just installed this and there are no real differences except they have added a 4x4 (i.e. the whole screen) People widget, and increased the size of the thumbnails on the People widget.
Tristan
Applied this update. Readme did not work. Now my headphone connection autosense is fsuked. HTC still haven't confirmed the changelog.
Hi,
I am new here and I am Hichjacking this thread, as my problem is in regards to the ROM Update on Orange.
As someone posted in this thread earlier, I do have the same issue that some of my paid apps are no longer available for me. ie Silent time, my backup pro.
I was able to get my MyBackup Pro online, however Silent time pro is not available. Is this also probably because its not approved for the new ROM update yet, although its not nearly 2 weeks old.
I can live without the other ones, but I loved Silent time Pro.
Can anyone help me and shed some light?

Co=Pilot 8 - warning wrt ROM upgrades

I purchased Co-Pilot 8 which I use on a single phone. However, I do upgrade the ROM regularly - I have the latest Energy ROM installed. Each time I install a new ROM I have to reinstall CP8. I've done this many times without an issue. With the last upgrade it would not install - stating it could not activate the product. I contacted ALK and they tell me that there is a limit to the number of times I can install it on the same phone, and that I need to 'buy a new copy' if I want to continue using the software I paid for. Obviously, I'm not accepting this response and have written to ALK support again. I checked the manual and website and it talks about moving from one device to another and re-installing after an update - no mention of limits to the number of times you can do this though.
Don't use that software myself, but I agree that you should be able to install it on the same device as many times as you like. This is probably a safeguard against piracy and installing on many different devices. So they have no financial reason to prevent you from re-installing in your case. Frequent flashing of ROMs may not be common amongst the masses, but you should have every right to do so. I would explain to them the situation and ask (or demand!) that they make an exception in your case and re-activate the product. Especially since it seems that they have given no previous indication of the limited number of installs, it would seem like a breach of contract or false advertising if they didn't remedy your situation somehow. I would also tell them that there is no way that you are going to buy a new copy of something you already own. And if they aren't going to help you, you're going to take your business elsewhere and spread the word for others to do the same.
New version
I had the same issue.
In my case, I had to update the app and maps, based on the info here:
http://blog.us.copilotlive.net/?cat=10
After that, I was able to activate the program again.
EDIT: If you need Copilot Central 2.0 software (manage your Copilot maps, voices, etc. from your PC), new version is also required from here:
http://www.alk.com/copilot/central/

Android: No bug reporting tool!?!??

Something I "hate" about the current Android environnement.
There is NO global bug reporting tool, unless I missed it.
There should be a way to report bugs and/or ask for features on ANY apps you D/L from the Market. I don't have the time to dig into forums, market comments, app dev mails/support to report bugs...
This should be integrated to Android by default. A nice simple interface to report bugs and request features, probably associated with the market.
What do you think about that?

use Cyanogenmod and that way you can use "Anonymous statistics", whatever the rom you use!
Humm... I don't think you understand my point. I just say that for a better user experience, a common repository for bug reports/feature requests would be great.
That's it!
Of course, I can dig/drill through forums and stuff like that and get what I want or report my findings. But, a minimum should be done by developers: at least a shortcut to support/report bug/etc... into their apps.
Maybe it's just me (I'm not perfectly bilingual), but I found your comment a bit "rude".
Well I find it pretty easy to report bugs to the developpers. You just have go to the market and click on the email address and it opens directly the mail client with the recipient and object already completed! I would understand your message about how annoying it is to report bugs if that wasn't as easy as it actually is (I'd agree with you if we talked about WM). But it will only take you a few seconds to do that. I've used the feature several times and I find it very practical.
I've also used integrated feedback feature in some applications, but, sincerely, how much time did I gain? Maybe 10 sec?

Official ASUS Thread - ICS Update on TF101 (20-Mar-2012)

Hi,
We have not been able to replicate the battery drain and random reboot issue that several users have reported after the ICS update and subsequent firmware updates.
As such we are looking for a few volunteers here to run a custom logging problem and report back their results. The system needs to have either the random reboot or battery drain issue and cannot be rooted.
If you are willing to run this logging problem (very much appreciated) then please PM with the following information.
Name
Email Contact Information
Serial Number
Problem Description
Sincerely,
Gary
Update -
I will start sending out the logging file and instructions to the test group tomorrow.
The logging tool simply captures low level OS routines that might lead us to the source problem.
3/21/2012 Update -
The logging tool was delivered to the first control group tonight. I will send the tool to the second control group tomorrow. Thank you for your assistance and replies.
3/26/2012 Update -
Thank you for your assistance and log reports. R&D is working on them feverishly right now. I will send out the tool to a third control group shortly.
4/2/2012 Update -
First off, thank you for your assistance and log reports. We are still investigating root causes for some of the problems. As such, personnel from the three control groups might be contacted directly for a system replacement so we can further investigate the lockup problem. I will have an update later this week.
4/9/2012 Update -
Thank you for the continued log reports. We are working through all the data now within R&D and at NVIDIA/Google. As soon as I have word on a Firmware update I will post it here.
4/18/2012 Update -
We sent out a beta Firmware release to a few users for testing. So far, it has solved the problems these users have experienced but I am still waiting on a couple of test updates. We also received back a unit that had the random lockup and screen corruption problem and so far after 22 hours of testing no problems. If the balance of the test updates are positive, we will get this build qualified and releases ASAP.
4/24/2012 Update -
9.2.1.21 will roll out today in North America. This release addresses several of the random reboot and lock problems reported by a few users after upgrading to ICS. It also provides new functionality with WiFi-Direct, Unzip in File Manager, Restore Tab function in the Browser, and general performance/stability tweaks. Although we had a high success rate in the beta testing phase in solving the random reboots, there were a couple of users who still experienced it during deep sleep mode. We are having those systems returned to us for further analysis and regression testing with their particular setups.
5/3/2012 Update -
We will release 9.2.1.24 into beta testing shortly. This firmware contains new NV code based upon the beta test group who still had issues with .21. I will provide updates once the firmware goes out to the beta group but it did fix returned units that experienced random lockups after .21.
5/9/2012 Update -
I have been out with pneumonia but will have messages forwarded to the Customer Care Team. The .24 release is in final qualification testing and will be released shortly.
5/10/2012 Update -
The .24 release is approved and will be released in the near future.
5/14/2012 Update -
The .24 release should go to FOTA later today or early tomorrow. Please shutdown and perform a cold boot after updating.
5/15/2012 Update -
Bad news, Google has changed their CTS qualification requirements on firmware so the .24 release is delayed for a couple of days. We have asked for an exception to release earlier, especially since it already passed qualification testing.
5/16/2012 Update -
The .24 release should go to FOTA very shortly.
5/22/2012 Update -
Sorry for the delay, tried not to die from pneumonia last week after a relapse. I will start answering general questions again today and forwarding CSR events to the Service Team. Good news is that we have hired a full time employee to assist our Tablet owners in the Android centric forums. His name is Tien Phan and he is available here under the user name Asus_USA. He is part of our new Customer Loyalty Group and will be taking over forum coverage and assisting our valued customers. I will still be around, especially to handle technical problems and coordinate with Engineering until Tien is completely up to speed. However, as always, if you run into a problem that is not solved by our Service Group please feel free to contact me.
5/31/2012 Update -
We are working on another release with updated code from NV/Google. I will be in Taiwan next week to discuss this version and once a beta is available we will release it to a small group of testers. So far, this updated code based has worked extremely well on the TF201/TF300 in beta testing. As soon as I have an update it will be posted.
6/11/2012 Update -
We received additional code enhancements from NV/Google while I was in Taiwan last week. We will create a beta update shortly for testing and hopefully the next firmware update will occur in the next two weeks. I/O and Thread priority changes are the top two items and will address ANR and Sleep issues, however, still testing various application loads as some applications do not want to play nice with thread overrides.
7/4/2012 Update -
New .27 Firmware is released and addresses browser and ANR problems among other items. As always, after the update is complete, clear browser and system caches, shutdown and then power up.
I just checked your previous postings since I wasn't sure that you are who you claim to be. Judging by your previous postings I'd say that you are an Asus rep.
Now to the point.
What exactly does this logging of yours entail?
I am willing to help you out. Please answer in this thread if possible.
I sent a PM to Gary volunteering to participate
PM sent. Hope to hear soon.
Great! Been waiting to see some official movement on this. Will PM requested info.

I hope this goes better than the "No Serial Number" issue with the Prime, in which emails were never answered (including mine), and the promised fix that was "coming soon" in January, never came.

Has anyone actually received a response form this yet? I believe that I was one of the first to PM this guy, but haven't heard anything back...

PM sent from me as well. I would love to help out if it leads to my Transformer working as it did under Honeycomb. It used to be a rock of stability. Not so much with the 2 ICS updates.
I sent a PM. I would love to help test.
PM'd - Will happily run this tool if it will cure my list of bugs
Thanks Gary,
I also sent a PM.
I've definitely had all the random reboots, stuck in boot loop, battery drain, unresponsive touch screen issues since the ICS update. Everything was fine before that.
Hi Gary: Major kudos to you for reaching out to the community. This harks back to Asus' great efforts when the TF101 first came out, and I'm glad to see you've not forgotten us.
I'll be dropping you a PM; I have two TF101s and both suffer this problem at least once or twice per day, so it should be quite easy to get you a log.
PM'd, hopefully we can help. A bit frustrated with my transformer at the moment.
PM'd.. hopefully not too late!
Just got an email from Asus and installed the log program.
