.flv? - G1 General

are there any .flv players for the g1, i've found nothing about it on the forum

flash player? google it. they are working on it. there is even a video or a picture of some sort of a demo.

no .flv players as of yet. we've been promised flash support for a long long time and they even had a working demo back in december. i'm still dubious as to whether it's actually gonna get released =/
if it does, they'll probably make us pay for it or something

Not even sure it's gonna be available to G1 devices at all. I read somewhere that proper flash support might require different/better hardware to work properly, which means it might not work on the G1 even if it comes to Android.

I concur.
Adobe has a long way to go to make flash accessible to lower end mobile devices. Based on their track record so far, I would say that if it does show up, it will be so laggy that it will be nearly unusable.
I would say that we have a better chance of seeing a successor to flash take over than ever seeing flash play a video at ~30fps on the G1.

Did you actually watch that video? It was mostly stills, and what little animation it had was laggy as hell.

just realised, if you connect to your home computer through VNC you can watch flash videos, and they (kinda) look alright. i say kinda...
i know it's not the phone playing them but, i'm sure the phone could play flv's tbh. my fkin LG Viewty could play Flash Videos and that was a pile of crap.

the animation wasn't too bad and it was just an early concept.
my point is, if it was fairly ok in november (just checked video ) if they have actually been working on it (which i doubt) it should be pretty good by now.
I'd rather have ok flash support than no flash support at all.
stupid adobe

I don't think we need Flash players to play swf files.
I got my TCPMP to play .flv videos on my WinMo device. So now I can download YouTube or any FLV videos to play on my WinMO device. The only thing that TCPMP needed was an ability to read the FLV container as the videos are standard H264 encoded.
Is there anyone working on porting TCPMP over to Android?
Or is anyone working on getting the existing Video player on Android to read the FLV file formats?
cheers

Audio always out of sync when playing back converted video :(

How can I solve this? Ive converted using MP4ForHD and something else called encoder or something (forgot now). Yet whenever I try to play a video thats been converted for the hd2 specifically, the audio is out of sync. If doesnt happen on videos I record, just others that are converted.]
Might it be the Leo's media player? would anybody recomend using a different media player (free) for the device?
Thanks in advance

I used 4 convertors (handbrake, HD, MP4 and the media coder mentioned in the forum)

This is a well-established bug which HTC has so far refused to acknowledge. Your best bet is for you and everybody else to keep complaining to HTC tech support until someone higher up gets to hear about it.

What annoys me is not so much the bugs but the impossibility of getting hold of anyone at HTC to tell them about them; there seems to be virtually no communication at all between "tech support" and "head office". The bugs wouldn't be a problem if we could report them and get them fixed, but there isn't anyone we can usefully report them to.

Do the videos in this link play OOS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5341496&postcount=32
As above, try setting an audio delay when encoding (if you can with whatever software you are using).
Works fine for me.

So do you recomend using those settings in that single thread?

I've raised this issue with HTC support. Clips that are perfectly in sync on the Touch HD2 are out of sync on the HD2. I'll let yout know what they say.

Sure, just go along with kr00t0n's audio delay if my profiles give OOS results.
At least for me, my current setup on that thread gives me the best looking videos without too much fuss. But it also depends on the videos you feed into it. MKVs with dts/vorbis might encounter some problems....if you have those we can talk somemore.
That's Star Wars : The Old Republic iirc....upcoming video game.

Well I have a ton of mkvs lol, but Ive converted most of them to avi already so its not a problem. I tried that method, with your profile with the slight delays ect and it worked great! really high quality as well (Although I couldnt find where to change the FPS to 30)
The only problem was it took about 25 minutes to encode a 20 minute show which is pretty long @[email protected] Especially on a quad core pc
Here are some more 0.400 delayed 720p encodes:

This is why you should turn your pc on in the morning, queue up the videos, start encoding, then go to work, lol!
After some testing, I have found that the resolution of the original video needs to be factored in to the resolution used in WinMEnc.
Most videos are 1280x720, which is 16:9, but 800x480 is 16:10.
This will cause encoded videos to be stretched upwards slightly, or in the case of more cinematic resolutions (the Legion trailer is 1280x608) stretched quite a bit.
Using this website, you can find out what settings you need in WinMEnc.
Find out the original resolution and put it in the lefthand boxes.
Then put 800 in top righthand box, and calculate.
1280x608 needs 800x380 to maintain aspect ratio (no stretching).
I edited the ini to be 800:380, as you can't edit this in WinMEnc itself, save, then load.
Comparisons:
http://www.kr00t0n.com/Kjam/Legion.mp4
http://www.kr00t0n.com/Kjam/Legion800x380.mp4
no sync issues here. I use HDencoder @1000kbit Video 128kbit Audio and check Normalize Audio.
Never had a out of sync problem converting MKV to MP4.
Some MKVs contain an audio delay for specific audio tracks, which most converters cannot read. Have the same problem when converting/muxing MKVs for PS3. Maybe this is your problem here....?!
why bother converting??? just get coreplayer and play avi's....happy days??

Android and Multimedia

It has been a month that I am using Xperia X10 (which was supposed to be a multimedia phone). It might have been a month but I have been following Android for a long time. I was so sure that if not the phone then the OS is going to be really great. Well I was wrong.....
Android does have lots of apps, and lots of them are really handy. But there are some very basic stuffs that it cann't do, like playing divx or Xvid or flv files. It has been quite a while that Samsung Spica came out, it has divx player support. There are so many devs, but noboody seems to bother to copy the divx player from Spica. Most of the videos are of xvid format now days. The only option you have is to buy yxplayer, but why should I buy yxplayer when this was suposed to be built in.
There is no default file browser, you have to download that too (thank god its free). There is no battery percent indicator, unless you download it. These are pretty basic things and they should have been included with the OS.
I am slowly feeling like those winmo lovers who believes that Android is popular because of the hype created by devs. And the devs started it as they can make couple of bucks by making small apps.
Regardless of conspiracy or no conspiracy, why no xvid or divx player??? Even the devs are not working on one

It's like Firefox vs. Opera discussion. I think if installing something is just few simple clicks, then system itself shouldn't contain nearly anything. I would be happy if it wouldn't even contain messaging app, cause I never use it and I can't delete it if I'm not a root.
So, as you see, there are many different "should have"s, not only yours.
I don't know why there are no divx/xvid player. But I personally don't mind, these formats aren't good for mobile devices, so I wouldn't use them anyway

Can't play RMVB video files on Honeycomb

Just got the A500 this week, extremely excited. Coming from my EVO the Honeycomb works similar, but different than my smartphone (CM7). One thing I'd noticed, is that none of the current Froyo/Gingerbread video player will play .RMVB files on this tablet.
Does anyone has a solution? Or I'm just whacked out? Thanks.

The general consensus is that as of right now Honeycomb on these tablets is only playing certain profiles of media and file types. For me, mp4s encoded at 1080p and under play but some are stuttered while others aren't. This has to do with profiles which I don't know the details about (there's a post somewhere around about it, either in here or in the Eee Pad Transformer section).
Now personally (so this is speculation), I think Tegra 2 can play everything so we just have to wait for updates to enable it all. Forget playing anything right now from your collection OR you can always encode your stuff to the specifications of what the tablet will run nicely now...which is, /shrug.
I've been using MoboPlayer and it seems to play every format I've thrown at it, but I don't have an rmvb to test.

absolute best VIDEO player for honeycomb?

is there anything better? Thank you

Mobo player doesn't dim (and by dim I mean turn them into small dots) the os buttons and time at the bottom, this is the sole reason I am considering uninstalling it, but I haven't found one to beat it yet.
Does it "dim" for anyone else?

I like the way control volume, brightness on moboplayer.
Feature-wise Moboplayer still has a lot of room for improvement. But in terms of codec support and performance (some stuff that wasn't smooth on other players played smooth as silk on Moboplayer), MoboPlayer is my favorite.

yea same here...its very neat
Mobo doesn't play very smoothly in software mode for 720p content... Unfortunately the Xoom doesn't playback enough formats natively so software mode is a necessity...
I swear by MoboPlayer as well, though sometimes I drop back to RockPlayer Lite just to see how it handles things. Love how Mobo remembers where you've left off regardless of how many movies/videos you've watched in between.
On the other side of the spectrum is mVideoPlayer, it has an awesome interface but only supports stock Xoom codecs. They recently updated to support sub/idx support for subs, but that whole stock codec only support kind of ruins it for me. I use this for any YouTube videos pulled w/ TubeMate.
I tested QQPlayer as well, it's not too bad but I was really searching for subtitle support so I could enjoy foreign flicks on the road. It didn't really offer much aside from srt support, but I figure I'll keep it in the hopes it'll see more development in terms of sub support (I believe it's developed in China or Korea, so sub support would have a higher priority).
any players allow you to make playlists? I like to fall asleep with a few episodes of stuff in the background
FWIW -- QQPlayer plays everything that I need it to play....
Vital Player is the best player on honeycomb I love you can turn the volume just using the screen.Same goes for brightness & full and widescreen.Vital Player updates regularly.

720p video playback in ICS worse than HC

I saw there was a thread kind of about this but that got derailed...
I'm using Dice Player, MX Player, and BS Player. BS seems to work the best, but still not as good as Dice was back in HC.
Does anyone know if it's just a matter of those apps having to be optimized for ICS?

DicePlayer is even worse than honeycomb though. MX and BS player are barely watchable.

I confirm the same, Bsplayer plays the audio but not the video . As for the Dice it always crashes ! I will lnstall Revolution HD 3 and see if this will play the 720p videos !!!
all those having issues- you need to reboot.
also bare in mind that video playback issues are not the OS's fault, Tegra 2 is underpowered to play video at 720p and 1080p, always has been, always will be.

me too, you need to do an ICS reinstall, my video playback is the same as on revolver now.
rebooted around a dozen times between lockups and just actual reboots, i've noticed no difference in any app.

There was a thread somewhere about best settings for Handbrake for encoding mp4 to suit the Transformer. These are the settings:
"Start with the Regular/Normal Preset
Container: MP4 File
On the Video tab, choose:
Video Codec: H.264
Constant Quality: RF 24 (Lower number is better quality but higher file size, I wouldn't suggest going lower than 20 in this case)
On the audio tab change the Mixdown to "Stereo", bitrate 160
On the Advanced Tab:
Maximum B-Frames: 0
Uncheck "CABAC Entropy Coding"
Uncheck "8x8 Transform"
Uncheck "Weighted P-Frames"
After those changes, you can save these by clicking on Presets -> Save Preset and name it something like "Transformer". "
This is an exact quote of the post, I don't have the original on hand to thank the original poster. But he does deserve my thanks, as this made 720p video beautiful on my FT101.
Doesn't work so well when streamed via wifi, I think 802.11G is a little too slow, maybe I need to go to 802.11N. Works fine via a portable hard disk, or a microSD card, or even a USB stick. If you have the dock or the usb converter adaptor thingy.
Sorry for those who don't have access to a grunty PC for converting using handbrake, I guess my post isn't much help to you. I'm waiting until I get my TF101 back from a warranty repair to try a few things out, including ICS. I'm currently running Revolver, and I'm VERY happy with it.. kudos GNufabio.

and yes, i'm well aware of how to flash a rom.
most of us here however are running stock ICS from the update with no root or anything like that. So simply saying reinstall ICS is not a very intelligent statement.
If i have an issue with my nexus i know how to back it up and reinstall because i have CWM installed.
however on this, as i just said, i'm running a totally stock device. i've never rooted, never installed a custom recovery, and i don't want to.
and personally, i also think the suggestion of installing ICS is BS and won't make a difference.
anyway, thank you @squire-au for that. i have seen that post and have been hoping there would be another way since totally encoding can take a very long time. but i will be testing that out overnight to see what happens.
