kenetic generator? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III Accessories

here is a thought.. i had 4 watch batteries die close togather and decided to get a Seiko Arctrua which has a little kenetic generator in it to keep the battery charged. i wonder if anyone has ever thought of something like this for a cell phone... it certianly gets a lot of movement in my pocket as i walk and would greatly improve battery charge time. maybe as a plun in case or somethign to start with... just a thought..

Nice idea, but the watches in question have a very low power consumption, and I doubt you could get enough to recharge or even run the phone, maybe a couple of minutes extra runtime over a few hours, but nothing massive.
Chris

unless us nuclear charge ...

i think that it could be done because the kinetic generator would be a lot larger than the one used in the watch. i am thinking that the best way to do this, disregard how it would look, would be to make one that replaces the whole back of the phone. I think that it is a good idea I wish there were more people nerdy enough to want this so it could actually be produced.
you would probably still have to charge your phone though.
it would be huge and not that great but a fun toy.

well, wish no more. Someone did it. (pretty sparse on the details, though)

[APP] Anyone seen this EYE poping & AMAZIG APP??

An app for the iPhone that simulates a lighter. Yup, you heard that right. So why is it all the rage in Europe and Japan? Read on.
This is insane.
iPhone users all over Europe and Japan have been going ga-ga over a new app released by a company called Smule. Basically, "Sonic Lighter" is software that displays a virtual lighter on your iPhone; with e-flames blazing on your phone's screen. And yes, the flame "sways" depending on how you move your phone. The main attraction though is something else.
The app is location-aware: if you choose, you can display your location on a virtual globe. When you do so, and when you run the app, you show up as a flame shaped blip on this map. The more you run the app, the more "kilojoules" you burn -- which further brightens your area on the globe. When you're done for the day, just blow on the microphone to "extinguish" the flame. For those who think it's not cool enough, you can ignite other lighters on iPhones near you.
Not satisfied? Have a look at this:

well thats useless .. but also fun! .. i put these apps from time to time to have fun with my little brother & sister lol
i wouldnt mind to get this app on my diamond
The brilliant thing is, is that the Diamond is perfectly capable of doing this is someone was willing to create the application. The only reason we don't see as many cool applications as there are for the iPhone, is because there is little to no advertising to draw the consumers in, and there's no officially released SDK for the sensors on the Diamond.
The Diamond does actually havemore hardware based sensors than the iPhone does, and it also has the added advantage of being able to run programs made by any random user with a compiler handy.

24 Hours w/a Nexus One

I just finished my 24 hour testing of the Nexus One for my employer and figured I would give my 2 cents worth:
1. On screen keyboard: Great, especially when used in landscape. Portrait has a bit more room side to side than the G1, and it makes it easier, but I wouldn't go so far to say in protrait it is a night and day difference. Landscape truly is, and I had no problem typing long messages in landscape mode, and using portrait for quick stuff. A physical keyboard is still a better option, IMO as a keyboard lover, but the onscreen is executed very, very well.
2. Speed/Android 2.1: I have tested some of the 2.1 ports on my G1, and as nice as they are, they do not give justice at all too what 2.1 is on a Nexus One. Blanket statement, the phone is faster and 2.1 is a great advancement. A more astute observation that I wasn't expecting, websites load much, much, much faster on the Nexus One. I didn't do an actual stop watch test, but a realistic guess says sites load about twice as fast. I am on an EDGE network where I do most of my surfing when not using WiFi... when on WiFi it was more dramatic (I actually loaded 1 site faster on the Nexus One than on my computer)
3. Stability: I tried my absolute best to slow it down and make it unstable. Couldn't do it. At one point in time, I had 23 apps open, the browser had 3 windows, I had youtube running, music, and so forth. Of course, several of the apps had to "reload" the last point I was at, but with this phone "reloading" is pretty much instant. The longest it ever took was one of the web pages had to re-download the content. I found that the phone's cache held my normal use just fine without ever having to reload.
4. Fit/Finish/Style: The phone has a very solid feel too, despite being very light in weight. Fits well in the hand, comfortable being used as a phone, and I got a lot of comments on it when I was out and about testing the "wow" factor (I was asked to go to a busy restaurant/bar and see how many people asked me about it). And, as odd as this might sound, being right handed the back button being on the far left was not a big deal, and I actually liked it's placement a lot since when I used it in landscape mode it was much more comfortable hitting it, and I think this is what they had in mind when they designed in like that.
5. Battery Life: Damn! That is all you need to know, Damn! I tried, really, really hard to push this to the max and see how fast I could run it down. I had WiFi and GPS both going, music playing, and was surfing the web as quick as possible, messing around with google maps taking a look at new and interesting places, and gave up. I used 80% of the battery in those 24 hours, but I was trying my best, for a little above typical usage it only went down 20% from 9AM-5PM. My G1 is usually about 60% gone over that period.
6. Conclusion: I am someone that pretty much demands a physical keyboard for me to even think about buying a phone. I am getting a Nexus One as soon as they become available through the company I work for. My manager is a BB addict, and she said as soon as we get it she is switching as well. That is a huge statement, her daily phone is a BB 9700, she texts and writes most of her emails from her phone, and the Nexus One out performed her BB 9700. She was using the google voice service to write, but she said out of all the texts and emails she wrote using it she didn't have a single typo!

Your welcome! I will say, if you check out the Nexus One forum opinions differ on battery life, but those saying it isn't good enough or are having issues with it not lasting long enough seem to have something off IMO.
I would say, with my normal usage, I could get 2 days of use on a full battery. Doing power use to the max I would get a full day. The only way I see this phone not lasting an entire day is if you are surfing the web, playing music, and using GPS non-stop type thing.

I know, its so hard to get enough when your parents wont buy it for you.
And being to young for a job doesnt exactly help either.

Thinking of getting HD2, would like opinions from owners.

I currently use an HTC Fuze on the AT&T network. It works well, I have it flashed with a custom ROM and I've never had problems with AT&T as so many others apparently have. However I had the opportunity to check out an HD2 a couple of weeks ago and I was pretty impressed. Impressed enough that I might want to get one for myself, but I have a few concerns.
1. AT&T's data network is pretty open, I haven't run into any blocked ports and I can do pretty much anything I want to as long as I can find a program for it. How is T-Mobile? Do they restrict data usage in any way? If so, are there any workarounds through third-party proxies or waps?
2. Up until now I would not have considered any phone without a physical keyboard. After using Finger Keyboard 2 for a while though I think I could live with that as my primary input method. How is the default keyboard on the HD2? I assume I can install FK2 anyway, so this isn't a huge deal.
3. Battery life. I hear it's not great on the HD2. On my Fuze I get just about a day's use on one charge with medium web browsing, GPS use, and relatively heavy email use. Any thoughts on what kind of life I'd see on the HD2?
4. Custom ROMs. I see there are quite a few available for the HD2. Any recommendations? I use the RRE ROM for my Fuze, hopefully there's something similar.
I guess those are my main concerns, if anyone has any additional thoughts please feel free to post them. Oh, and yes, I know the HD2 is significantly bigger than the Fuze, that's ok with me.
In short, the Achilles' heel of the HD2 is the battery life. If anything, it's the screen that really screws up the 1250 mAH battery.

The screen size, and the fact that the battery is so small in the first place, really put the pinch on usage time. But, if you manage activity (particularly 3G etc) carefully, you can still get through a full day or at least most of one.
Other than that one thing, the phone is a dream, for me anyway. I haven't had any trouble with tmo blocking any type of data that I've tried, and both the stock HTC keyboard as well as swype make the lack of a physical keyboard a non-issue really.
Thanks for the replies. I looked up the specs on HTC's website, evidently the EVO2, the Incredible and the HD2 all share pretty similar hardware, but for some reason they only put a 1200-something mAh battery in the HD2 while the other two have something like 1350 and 1500. Strange decision.
Anyway, I'm rarely away from a location where I can charge my phone, either at my desk or in my car, so battery life is not a make-or-break point.
Thanks again!

I think it's to cut down on the "heft" of the phone. While they are similar in specs, the EVO is considerably heavier than the HD2. On a sheet of paper you might think it's probably minor, but in person, and across day to day usages, you'll notice the strain in puts on your hand.
One more question, my custom Fuze ROM came with IE 7 as default, which does not work with Logmein's Windows Mobile app. The Fuze has a tweak to reenable the old IE which allows it to work. Has anyone had any experience with using Logmein on the HD2? What version of IE does it come standard with? Not that I'd be using it for browsing, just LMI.
Oh, and one MORE one more question. The data/charger connection, is it a standard USB mini-B? Or at least compatible with mini-B cables and chargers? All my other HTC phones have been, I assume this one is as well but confirmation would be nice.
you do know by pressing the edit button on your previous post, you can keep adding as many questions as you want

Correct, OP = Original Poster in any specific thread...helps spot their posts easier when threads get long or off-topic. Editing a previous post is preferred in cases like this one, just to keep down on the clutter. Best rule of thumb is that if nobody has posted since yours, just edit it Also a good idea to point out your edits by tagging them thus:

It's not so much the ROM. Make sure you get LeoCPUspeed, and set it to 998mhz all the time.
Won't that kill the battery even faster? Besides, the speed is fine so far, it's more the interface. Guess I better put Mobile Shell on there.

Nah, I've been doing this for the past week no. No noticeable difference.
You'd be surprised at how often the chip throttles it up to 998mhz than leave it at 768mhz.
The throttling in my opinion, is what causes the "uneven" smoothness that you see when you navigate throughout the phone (weird statement I know, but I hope that makes sense).
The device does not draw 998mhz of power when it's asleep, so don't worry. It's still be the same as before.
So it only fixes it at 998mhz when it's awake, which is totally awesome in my opinion.
Why don't you give Energy roms a try? He has the widest selection of ROM-types you can tinker from. From the MaxSense ones to the standard Titanium ones. This flexibility is good for people who wish to try out which versions that they are most comfortable with.
If you feel that you like SPB Mobile Shell better, then perhaps go for the Titanium roms to free up more space, etc on the phone.
Cheers.

[Q] HTC Dream vs Nokia 5800

Hi guys!
I had (well stiill have it somewhere) an old HTC wizard and i loved it, XDAdevs helped me a lot with it but well, i needed and upgrade so I bought a Nokia 5800XM. Im happy with it, but now I have the opportunity to change it for an HTC dream, and Id really like to go back to HTC and I dont like symbian very much, Id like to give droid a try.
Yes, I did use the search, i thought there would be some thread like this (since they are similar devices and were released very close) but I couldnt find any.
So, I did comparisons between their specs, and for what i see, the main differences are, dream has qwerty keyboard (big plus, i dont like touch keyboards), capacitive screen (so i guess it means multitouch, vs 5800s resistive), 500something mhz and 192mb ram (5800= 128 ram 400something processor, not big difference but it is something) and hmmm, dont know i got lost.
The 5800 is a bit smaller, has a better screen (360x640 16M, vs Dreams 320x480 65K), FM radio, 3.5 jack (i dont know what kind of plug the dream uses, i would like to know please), TV out, more battery time, better camera (carl zeiss, flash (i use it as a flashlight and works really good), and secondary camera for videocall).. and i think thats it.
Now, you guys, as users, what would you recommend? well if im asking here i guess most of you would go for the dream, but please, tell me ANYTHING, EVERYTHING i should know before making the swap..
is accelerometer good? is GPS good? (my 5800 works fine, but it takes 10 minutes to find satellites so it makes it kind of useless for short trips through the city, it might be because im in Argentina tho)
what about music/video playback? build quality?
If you think i forgot something, or that there is anything i should know before going through with the swap, please let me know! also when im doing the exchange if i decide to go through with it, what should i check is ok and test so i dont get scammed with a broken device?
Sorry if its too long, hope you read it, and that you would help me! Im counting on you guys
Thanks!
You can have the most advanced hardware in the world, but with crap software, it is still junk. Dream is BY FAR the superior.

Capacitive does NOT mean "multitouch". It means it has a HARD surface designed for use with your fingers. Resistive is a SOFT surface requiring (for proper use) a stylus.

Dream is NOT multitouch -- not really, except with some nutty hacks that *kinda* work.

The camera works not too bad all things considered. I caught some pictures of a fox snooping around my house a few months ago, turned out nice, but taken outdoors in daylight. LED flashes don't work well -- they just don't give you the same kind of output that a proper flash will, so trying to use it in a dark and psychedelic place won't be yielding very good of results.

Just some words upon the topic: HTC Dream last official firmware is Android 1.6 Donut - it has no multitouch feature. But you can quite easily install Android 2.2 Froyo (CyanogenMOD e.g.) - it has such functionality. As the example, i can say that while navigating through picture gallery you can zoom in and out the image with two fingers movement - and it really works...
GPS: it takes one or two minutes outdoors to catch the satellites without AGPS.
Audioconverter HTC ExtUSB -> 3,5 audiojack costs $5 at ebay.com (item id 335ea04db3 e.g., sorry, no link due to new users policy of xda forum).

Hi jinxie
Have you got your new battery? seems like the 1700mAh battery is the largest that conforms to the original form factor.
For myself, I'm thinking of going with a remote that has a 3.5mm headphone port, probably HTC RC E100, instead of one of those multi port USB adapters.
I'm curious to know which ROM you went with?
hey!
i am just ordering the battery right now.. but intl delivery sucks big time for latin america.. so I will tell you in a month lol
about the adapter, i wanted it because the guy who i made the trade with forgot to give me the headphones that come with the device, but now i have them, and i must say im impressed, despite the looks they fit really well (and thats an issue for me, headphones often fall from my ears, but not these), and sound quality is great, even music with heavy bass sounds good, so i think im gonna stick with these for a while..
and about the rom, im open to suggestions, havent found what im looking for yet, CM6 didnt work for me, im currently using biffmod but not happy with it neither, i wanted to try superF, but im not sure if all the issues it had are fixed yet, also i was waiting for the OTA release, so there must be some new stuff now, but actually what i was really looking for was an equivalent for the dream of the milestone's eclairless, i want the most RAM available i can get without the hack (im rethinking that), im really sick of FCs.
i might flash something today as i came to XDA today to look for a ROM, hope i find sth interesting.. what are you using?
I broke my last dream going from CM6.0.0 to biff's. I did manage to get another second hand dream, in good condition, of craig's list and i'm going to chill on rooting for now.
So, did you order a battery that requires a special back cover? For myself, I ordered the 1700mAh battery, just because I really like my case and I wouldn't be able to use my case with one of the super sized batteries that change the form factor.
I really miss having the music controls on the lockscreen and I can't seem to get that feature,at least for free, on cupcake with the stock music app, so I ordered a remote with headphones because, the stock HTC headphones, though sound awesome but are too big for my ears, and keep falling out. With this remote, since it has a 3.5mm jack, I should be able to use my favorite earbuds from sony, that is if I don't like the ones that come with my order.
I attached a picture of the remote / headphones
The most annoying thing I'm finding, is only having sixty megs or so, for apps, and not being able to remove the stock stuff included that I don't use, like Quickoffice, and such.
yeah i saw that remote, looks cool, but i heard that it might not work depending on the rom youre using.. or sth like that, look it up here in the accesories forum..
how did you "break" it? didnt you just brick it? im sure theres some way to recover it.. but tell me how you did it because i dont want to do the same.
still havent flashed anything new yet, since with the low bat life i get im not using the phone that much, but i might try the new cyanogen 6.1.. but im not sure yet..
btw yes i also ordered the 1700mah, the pohne is big and heavy as it is, with an extended battery i might aswell buy a netbook :/
chences are that you will get your bat way before i get mine, so tell me how much more juice you get from it!
edit: so finally today i flashed chromatic 3.9.1.1 (eclair)
so far so good, very fast, i changed adw launcher for launcher pro, now i want to remove all the extra stuff i dont need/use. then lets see how it goes with all my apps loaded, lets give it a few days
here's my post from the CM forum: regarding my broken Dream. I believe there is a JTAG solution, but I figured just get another used for cheap instead of taking the nonbooting dream apart, buying the necessary equipment, learning how to fix it, or getting someone else to, etc. now I'm using it as an extra charger.
The remote I order wasn't the one I really wanted, but it's coming with the earbuds I prefer, instead of the stock ones that are way too big for my ears.
If I still have this phone, I might get one of the 2850mAh batteries just to see if I can get a full days use on a single charge. But I'm thinking of getting a HTC Desire Z from bell off contract, and using it with rogers.

Galaxy S10+ and blood pressure

Will it be possible to measure blood pressure in Galaxy S10+ ?
I'm guessing that like the S9 it does, but you're very limited on apps that use it. I've only found one for my S9 and that's "My BP Lab". I don't find it particularly accurate and maybe that's why Samsung Health won't support it.
My guess is that they can do it, but they are careful with it, because of the huge responsibility. They need to be absolutely sure on every aspect first.
My blood pressure is high just waiting on my Pre-order! lol

My BP Lab requires a cuff reading before it will read BP the first time but I can use it immediatelt after a cuff reading and the phone's reading will be at least 15 points or more higher every time. I didn't get the phone for that so it's not a big deal.

I really think that having such capability would be great achievement and would actually save lives. I'm looking very much forward for this technology to evolve. I didn't know it was still not so accurate. I expected it was already pretty precise.

If it is a consistent difference then it could still be helpful. I haven't actually used it enough to see if that's the case but I may try after I get my S10.
