Free memory s/w for HD - Touch HD General

Hello,
Being used HD for one week, I found one problem about memory consumption (not a problem actually ).
At startup, about 120M free memory, after using for one day (Opera, view picture, games, stock manager, etc), only about 80M RAM left.
I have tried to use
- oxios memory
- MemMaid 2.0
but it can only free 1-2M RAM, where is my RAM

Yes, I found out the same problem! Try to do a reset and the memory is cleaned again. I use the X button to kill all programs after using them, but it seems to be fludding on a regular basis, also activesync program keep popping up when I'm not connected, and the memory usage slowely gets higher every hour with a few procent.
Does anyone else has the same prob? Didn't use special appz yet, because it doesn't seem to disturb working with device.

Until the phone starts having problems, why worry? With every new device there are threads like this with people obsessing over the amount of free RAM their devices show, but honestly you can just leave Windows Mobile to deal with the RAM itself and you'll never have a problem. There's no need to try and recover all the RAM that you think should be free. The OS will take care of it.

I have the same problem. My guess is it a memory leak in some apps. ITs no big deal, because there is lots of free memory and if it really bugs me, I can do a soft reset every now and then.

Yes, it is not a problem to me until now as there are plenty of RAM available!
I just curious about the kinds of program that consume the memory??
From my observation, WM OS is not doing the job of memory management well.

Clearing your browser cache will retrieve some of it
(unless you have it to cache to the storage card)

I don't bother too much with this as it does not seem to become a problem.
But, I don't "load and leave" applications. I also generally do a soft reset once a week.
However, in SK Tools there is a "FreeUP RAM" application as part of the suite. I just ran it and it recovered 2 mbytes (a bit less than 1 %)

@ Swantony001 :
Hi, there is a thead about stopping Active-Sync activating itself all the time.
Works perfectly for me.

Greetings,
go42

the memory leak does cause problems for me, well with tomtom7 it does. sometimes i get the message "not enough memory" unpon booting TT and am forced to do a soft reset.
its not often, but the fact it happens piddles me off!

Hi, guys!
I've noticed the same thing! Something consumes active memory!!!
I watched some processes... So "cprog.exe" and "device.exe" eat memory from time to time.
I use Soft Reset once a day or in two days.
If anyone gets a new WWE ROM with that bug being fixed, please, let me know .
Memory consumption is not a big problem now, but it's a bit annoying...

Damn never experienced this problem before *touches wood*
Yeah i have experience the memory leaking up starting from 38% to 44% in a matter of hours.
No biggie, but if it comes down to problems like jonajuna experienced then, yes that is a problem.

Have u ever seen this?

Just happened on my universal onn the third time
First time happened with WM5, then with WM6 for the second time
THe screen turns to fiull brightness and messages shown in the following screenshots are shown.
The only remedy is soft reset. This even happens sometimes with no apps installed
yeep, I have experience same, I got it same issue with some rom's after sending many many SMS. As I could observe it came from running low memory (even the display shows ca. 13-16 meg)
I had >26MB storage memory and >16MB of program memory

don't think it has anything to do with the storage memory but definitely with the program memory. By some of the ROM's it seams the 14-16 MB memory leading to your problems but some of the ROM's you can run down until 7MB and still no issue.
I use jwright's rom which as we all known as memory leak issues and it's been stable till there was only about 5mb left. after that i couldn't even open a photo (note: no crash or other odd behaviour, just out of memory), and that was when i soft booted.

htc polaris memory leak

i noticed when i use my polaris that the memory is always increasing i tried it with all roms original ones and cooked ones, it starts with 46% and ends up 60% where does this go, and i dont usually keep any programs running always shutdown all the programs after i use. where does this amount of memory go?
Yes, I also have this problem. Without any applications running in the background, the RAM usage is ~40% fresh after soft reset/power turned off then on, then after a few days, RAM usage is ~55%. After this point, I again do a soft reset.
What is actually the problem? Anyway to fix this?
My ROM version is 1.26.457.1 WWE
Radio version is 1.58.25.14
Memory leak
The memory leak problem does not happen only in Polaris, it's a known issue on WM devices.
To solve the problem i've found a little aplication that works great for me: "Auto Reset".
With it i can have a daily soft-reset at any time that i choose.
So now my device doesn't have any memory problems.
You can find it for free here:
http://freewareppc.com/utilities/autoreset.shtml
memory leak
good app , but this is not a solution for the problem, it happens when u run programs and then close them, so those the operating system do not clear up the memory.
excuse my english

Substantial memory leak

Hi,
I've noticed that over the course of a day, the memory consumption of the HD increases substantially... going up from about 30% to over 60% if I use it heavily. I imagine it has something to do with the different caches and the tweaks I've run (found on the forums) to increase performance. Is there a way to flush all caches so that I don't have to reset the device?
Thanks!
I'd like to know if anyone else is having this problem too.
After a fresh reboot my memory usage is about 30%. By the time Gyrator and TouchFlo restart it gets to about 40% where it stays.
However once I start using programs it will easily skyrocket to about 70%. Even if I close all the programs using taskmanager I will never recover more than about 2-3% of memory.
i use memmaid to free memory from time to time, but i we also backup a request for something that automaticly do that
shadow option for sktools made my hd to stuck so i rennounced to it
any ideeas?
now i don't know if this can affect battery performance but with computers the most efficient system is NOT the one with a lot of free ram, is the one that USES it totally... virtually having always ram at 99% would mean maximum performance... In other words: why do you want to flush the ram
This can not affect battery performance at all.
And it's totally normal to use ALL ram.
I guess you people grew up with normal Windows, that frees ram...
For example Linux has always used 99% RAM on your pc. It just uses all the free RAM as cache! So when there is more needed, it deletes some cache and allocates that RAM.
It is bad, very bad to waste memory by not using 100%. Using all memory for cache and only giving memory when it is needed is good for performance.
If you look at Vista, it does the same thing...
So it is normal behaviour, especially when you set all the caches high.
I use the SKTools application "FreeUP RAM" which does a sweep of RAM and normally saves about 5-10 mb.
BUT, I find I rarely need it as I don't seem to have any memory leak except with TomTom running.
i am not sure i can follow you
if i understand well, linux keem memory ocupied in order to fully use the whole capacity
but is not the case of windows, and sure is not the case of windows mobile
in my device, diferent processes and application take a slice of memory and does not release it even when you close them
so you end with a memory occupied 60, 70 even 80% despite the fact that you have nothing obviously running
because of that (not having enough free RAM), when you launch a new application, the HD became very slow or even stuck
correct me if i am wrong, but this is what i have noticed during the years of use of windows or windows mobile.
i am not computer literated so i might be wrong, though!
I also raise this problem here before, most expert's advise is that WM will manage memory itself, it is not necessary for us to do anything!!
I had tried to use memmaid, but it only free up 1-2M memory.
Back to the time when I use D810, if there are few MB left, I can't launch new application. Even when I close some and make free RAM left to 16+ MB, that program will still report out of memory........the only thing I can do is to soft reset.....
HD's RAM capacity is much better, but as time goes......maybe this problem will also happen!?!?
Sorry but not convinced. I agree that when in use 70-80% memory usage is not a problem. But when there are no programs running, then there is no reason to use ram.
Also on my previous wm6.1 device when you closed items in task manager it would restore ram. Sure not all of it but a good chunk of it. Heck, even on my previous HD using the task manager would free more ram.
The only thing that I can see that is different between my previous HD and this one is Tweak HD and the TouchFLO Calender. So I will try removing those first and see what happens,
Eventually, after flashing Laurentius's ROM, the problem went away almost completely. Have to say my memory usage is pretty stable now, at around 40-45% even after a day of full application and web use.
dunno personally i'd love to have a superfetch feature like in vista which keeps ram full
Higher memory usage causes minimal/neglectable effect on power consumption, RAM is powered as a whole, fractional/partial modes (where only used memory cells are powered) are not available on modern RAM chips. The CPU or DMA controller may use more power swapping memory data in and out as memory usage grows, however the increase is nothing in comparison with what the LCD backlight or loudspeaker would use.
I don't know what memory allocation method is used in Windows CE/Mobile, but regardless, being unable to start a new application while there are no other applications running in the background means that physical memory is depleted and this is not normal. OS may use RAM for caching/buffering to optimize performance, however memory allocated for optimizations should probably be released when it's required for other purposes. If this is not happening, than either OS lost track of allocated/unallocated memory or memory allocation approach is very inefficient and causes high fragmentation.
Here's a list of tools (for WinCE) that may also work on WinMo and help curious xda-devs figure out what's eating their memory...

Igo8 failed to reserve virtual address

I have the following issue with Igo8:
When I want to start Igo8 it says: "failed to reserve virtual address"! After soft-reset Igo8 starts normal.
Can someone know something about this issue?
Same problem here. RAM Cleaner doesn't solve the issue either. For me, it seems that the problem only occurs if I already started iGO8 earlier; it doesn't occur if I've got the phone running for multiple days without starting iGO8.
Yes the same with my TP2 and IGO8....
This problem has been bugging me too. RAM cleaner fixed it for me once on a level 3, but never did since. I'm thinking memory leak?
I have the same problem too, what I did was usually I disable the T3D before I run the iGO8 (8.3.2.x), this usually help without have to reset my TP2. That is why iGO support said they did not cerified it work on TP2 (even most people said it work great on TP2). Used at your own risk.
I have experienced this issue few times, ussually when I turned it on for the third or forth time (or later on) in a given time, soft reset fixed it.
I am experiencing the same strange behaviour.
I have to shut down and then it restarts correctly.
Obviously it's not a certified device
Thanks for your replies. It's really annoying to soft-reset the device everytime, when I need IGO8. I hope to find a solution for this annoying problem...
Update to the latest version Jun 8 2009, 8.3.2.93112.
I think they solved the problem.

Where can I find this official update? I have regularly bought mine and it has a lower reference number...
I allready have the latest version of IGO8 (Jun 8 2009, 8.3.2.93112). But thx for your advice though...
Hi Guys,
I was having the very same issue with my TP2 but it seems I managed to trick it by using the following sequence of events.
1. Disable TF3D
2. Soft-Reset the device
3. Once the device was operational again I started iGO8
4. Exit iGO8 then re-enable TF3D
5. Start iGO8 again and check if it works (it did for me)
6. Soft-Reset the device again and let it load all it's stuff including TF3D.
7. Start again iGO8 to check if it would still work (it did for me).
Well... it works for me since then, but on another note I don't have too many softwares installed on my device at this time so I'm not sure whether or not iGO is having memory leak problems. I'm pretty sure that the issue is coming from an incompatibility between TF3D and the iGO interface and also the same was confirmed by other people on the various forums.
Right now I'm using the latest available iGO8 v8.3.2.93112 (not instaled just running it straight from the storage card).
I hope the above would help you out, but in any case should anybody find a better stable solution, please let us know about it.
Cheers,
Hello this is a memory problem...i have notice if the ram is under 70 MB this error will come.....
Hi All
Yes, this is solely a memory (RAM) problem.
What is the problem you may ask, well, the phone takes a truckload of RAM to simply ...run.
Consider this.
Specified RAM - 288mb.
Available 'total' RAM - 288mb, minus 100mb = 188mb.
RAM in use (OS + TFlo) - 288mb, minus 100mb, minus up to 130mb = 60mb.
Available RAM to actually use is often 60mb or less with no running apps!!!!
This is a serious issue with this phone, it is not fair and even misleading for the consumer - i mean really, not enough memory to run just ONE app!!!
(Granted, a GPS app is large, but the device does have the chip, doesn't it?)
C'Mon.... I bought a phone with 288mb of RAM, not 60mb - [email protected]%#[email protected]!!!!!!!
Don't get me started on the specified ROM size of 512mb, of which we get to actually use just 277mb....
Cheers to all

I think that this is not the problem. My kaiser will run Igo8 With high resolution, buildings, TTS enabled, etc with just 25mb free memory. why can my kaiser do it with 25 mb and the TP2 not with 60mb free memory?
Verry strange...
The second thing that I dont understand is that the problem will come directly after starting IGO8. My kaiser will run slow or crash when it has too less memory remaining. but by the TP2 it will give an error directly after starting and BEFORE loading the app... This will give me the idea that it is a verry simple and basic problem...
update: I've noticed that IGO8 will run fine on the TP2 with Touch flo 3D disabled with only 35mb ram...
Ranney
Well, ran into the same problem on my Igo8 too. Like others said, I have to soft reset it everytime when I encounter that problem...really frustrating it will waste you couples of minutes to do soft reset and wait for the apps to comes out.
Well, i have tried all versions, but still getting the same stupid virtual address. Almost give up, but I like Igo8 interface very much.
I dont know this is really works for you or not. Without me realized after I have installed SecondToday and then ran my Igo8 from here, then I never have this problem again EVER!!! I am a heavy user of this Igo8, cos every where i go, i depend on this gps software. Now I never have this problem again. Thanks Godness.
Hope this help.
hi,
I have got similar issues but in my case it was (most likely) due to the skin I was using (gurjon 6.9.2p).
After I reverted back to the original igo's skin, I have not been reported with any error since last few days.
I am using 8.3.2.97313 [July 3rd] release.
I'm wondering whether a newer WM6.5 ROM will solve it. Maybe Manilla 2.5 (or 6) may make a difference. I'm currently playing around with NRG's ROM, and will monitor iGo8 over the coming days.
i use windows mobile 6.5 without any touchflow. and i have to softreset too.
i can start igo8 any time i want but if i dont softreset before, i will lost the gps signal every 10 seconds.

Mobile phone is very slow and feels lagging

Hi,
For the last couple of days, I am feeling like my mobile has become very slow or lagging. It appears that ram management is bad, sometimes can't run even few common application in the background. Navigation appears very slow.
I am using 4GB version, latest os with may security update. Mobile is not rooted .
I tried clearing cache partition and tried clearing cache of most application. But nothing improved .
Please help me guys!
Is badly placed screen guard affects performance? I have air bubbles Along the side.
Umm.. screen protectors don't affect the phone's performance in any way. But it is possible that you might get touch related issues with a badly placed one which is very rare.
Does your internal storage have enough space left?
Have you installed a lot of apps?
Check if any app is constantly running in the background.

In internal I have nearly 15GB left.
No. I didn't install that many app. Always have more than 1 GB RAM left. There maybe many apps syncing in the background though.
