Will Touch 3G work with Tmobile/AT&T 3G services - Touch 3G General

Hi,
I am planning to buy Touch 3G or Touch Diamond. (Still confused)
However, can anyone tell me which one of these will work with US carriers 3G services.
The specs mention
General 2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 2100 / 900
So, general latching on to US GSM networks and using Edge is not a problem, I know. However, not sure about 3G.
Whatever reading I have done shows that the 3G network is as per European standard. So I am sure I should be able to use 3G in Europe/Asia.
Can some gurus help me with this.
Appreciate your help
Anup

I have ATT, and no, the Touch 3G does not work because it is missing the 3G band used by ATT. I only get Edge in places where my old P3600 would get 3G.

Does this mean that this device will work at least for voice/SMS in Japan (which only has WCDMA 2100, no conventional GSM at all)?

KS20 3G att Network?Possible?

hello I have searched all over the place before writing this.
I have a KS20 , unbranded. I have a data plan with ATT, a 3G sim card, I tried different cag with att settings. I have internet, GPRS, my MMS and sms work fine.
But can t get an H or 3G connection?
Any clue? I always like having a PPC, and the reason why I did not get an IPHONE.(Though i have an iphone 3G, still in the box)...
LG KS20 is a European phone.
It uses the European 3g/umts/hsdpa band. It's not compatible with America's.
Sorry to disappoint you.
Hum that s what i thought, i guess i stay on the GPRS, though somehow today i was able to get on EDGE. E icon showed up for a minutes
thank you
Yes you can use LG KS20 in USA!
I use the LG KS20 in USA with ATT in the 1900 Mhz Band.
Remember that ATT use both 1900 Mhz and 850 Mhz. This phone only use the 1900 Mhz with ATT and you need to check the coverage in your city with this Band but at least in my city is pretty good.
Also the GPRS connection is very good with this phone. I pay $15 each month for unlimited internet use (MediaNet).
With 3G is another history because use the 850 Mhz Band.
Will be a KS20 850 Mhz Version (with another name) coming to USA so I hope to use that firmware in mine and see if I can activate the 850 Mhz Band.
Good luck.
there were rumors about it coming to the US, but it seem more and more unprobable.
Gprs is not to bad, but it s frustrating sometime, when i see my Iphone, get everything quick
i got it thanks
wonder if we could use the LG incite firmware to make it work on att 3g?

3G problems

is anyone running the IOLITE phone on TMOBILE US with a 3G connection?
well, better now than never...here is the answer:
nobody is running 3g on iolite with t'mo...
3g freq on iolite is 2100 mhz, and that is a hardware spec that cannot be changed with softwares updates...
im in Chile and have the same problem...here i can't use 3G network...only EDGE.
sad but true...
Here in Spain, the 3G connection is well, is fast! (with Orange)
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Regards!

I'm also have unlocked Iolite and according to spec it have following:
GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800, GSM 1900, UMTS 900, UMTS 2100
CSD, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA, UMTS/WCDMA, GPS
So I think it should work with 3G network.
I preordered 3G network package from my ISP (Orange, IL) and configure it properly, according to ISP instruction... but whenever I enable Data Connection it always show "G" letter on top bar.
On Iolite support site I read following:
You will see these icons on the title bar when your device is connected to the Internet. G means connected via GPRS. E means connected via EDGE. 3G means connected via 3G. H means connected via 3.5G.

Somebody know another way how to check with network I connected GPRS or 3G?
igor7: If you are connected to 3G network, your carrier name usually has 3G in name. For example 3G Vodafone instead of Vodafone. You should also check, which frequency is used for 3G in your country. If it is not 900 or 2100 MHz, you can't use Iolite for 3G.
EDIT: It is 2100 MHz in Israel. So next step is to check, if you are within 3G network coverage
torrentonly: The problem was in my sim card... It ~ 10 years old. I received it with my first mobile phone. Therefore it doesn't know nothing better than GPRS . Previously I didn't use internet on Iolite, so I didn't pay attention on this issue. Now, after I upgraded Iolite to WM6.5 and install WAZE navigation software (it use internet connection and preloaded drivers alert, traffic info e.t.c.) I noticed that my connection to slow...

Network Type/Band Freq

Can somebody please explain GSM vs WCDMA vs UMTS for the bands?
My impression is GSM is 2G and UMTS is 3G and both can supply regular phone service? What's WCDMA then?
T-mobile USA is GSM 850/1900 and what else?
I was thinking if I specify what network and band to use it'll use less batter (ie. no 3g unless I really need it).
this is a really easy google search... or just go to wikipedia....really any search you would try will answer your question.
(you're half right, but mostly wrong)...here's some links for you
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=wcdma+wiki&l=1
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=gsm+wiki
Well I did google already, but still is over my head when I look at the band settings in the TMO HD2.
If WCDMA = UMTS why is there a separate GSM/WCDMA network selection, both allowing bands in GSM and UMTS.
Sounds like GSM is older tech, meaning 2g, whereas 3g is the newer GSM, which is UMTS, which = WCDMA. Therefore, how can you choose UMTS band frequencies on a old GSM network?
Perhaps I'm not phrasing my question correctly. I'm asking these because of the phone settings. I'm trying to figure out if it's more efficient to just tell the phone to look for specific network/band for TMOUSA thereby saving time and battery.
is this just too simple of a question or not many people understand. anyone?
ok, instead of giving you a bunch of info, let me give you just what I think you need.
I'm guessing you're going to Settings>Wireless Controls> Phone>Band and that's where the confusion is coming from. This screen is wrong and the Bands listed there are wrong (they're from previous devices, and htc didn't bother to update that screen).
So, you have 3 main choices there that should be of interest to you as long as you're in the US on Tmobile's network: Auto, WCDMA, GSM (under Network Type).
Auto: switches automatically between GPRS/EDGE/3G (HSDPA, HSPDA+)
WCDMA: 3G (HSDPA, HSPDA+)
GSM: EDGE/GPRS
The only way that playing with the band frequencies could help you would be if you're just interested in Edge/GPRS since tmobile uses two different frequencies there (native 1900 and 850 roaming). For 3g however, Tmobile uses only (and concurrently....as in you need to use both to get 3g and not just one or the other) 1700/2100 frequency.
Long story short, if you're trying to keep the phone from switching between 3g and Edge and you're in an area that has constant 3g, set it to WCDMA. (but note that if you loose 3g but are in an area with Edge, it will not switch to Edge, it will just be 0 bars/reception).
thanks alot, that really clears it up. I don't have data connection besides mms so I figure I may set it to no 3g and save some battery.

How do I find out the dvp bands version?

Hi! would someone please tell me if there is a way to find out if I have a
US Model: UMTS850, UMTS1900, UMTS2100
or
AWS Model: UMTS900, UMTS1700, UMTS2100
"System View" app says it is HSDPA 850/1900/2100, but no other app says that kind of info.
I have an unlocked dvp I got from ebay, the seller said twice that it is a UMTS850..., like for at&t,
but
the problem I have is that there is no way I can get 3G signal here in Costa Rica, I have a 3G sim also, with 1MB internet but the phone only gets "Edge" signal for 128kbits/s internet, I have 3G option enabled btw, and I also messed up with EM, and the RF power stuff was set to UMTS 1700, I changed it to 850, setted and that doesn't changed anything.
Tried some test in the tmobile section and some tests say WCDMA disabled or something like that.
Also if someone know a way to force WCDMA / UMTS / HSDPA ?? of enable it?
or set manually frequencies, or know which version I have.
BTW! internet speed works as it should be on a 3g datacard con my pc, but not on the 3 cellphones I tested.

[Q] Using my beloved HTC HD2 European Version in North America

Hi all,
I am desperately looking for a solution to the above problem.
Background: I moved about a year ago from Germany to Canada. My HD2 worked well with the sim card from Telefonica/O2 on the network over here. The phone itself is not locked but branded. Anyway when I tried to change to a Bell sim card it did not want to work. So I looked up the frequencies. My HD2 works on the following frequencies:
GSM1800
GSM1900
GSM850
GSM900
W-CDMA(UMTS)
The providers over here have the following frequencies:
Telus (including Koodo)
2G
CDMA 850/1900
EVDO 850/1900
3G (and fake 4G)
HSDPA 850/1900
HSPA+ 850/1900
UMTS 850/1900
WCDMA 850/1900
1x EV-DO CDMA2000
Bell (including Virgin Mobile, PC Mobility)
2G
CDMA 850/1900
EVDO 850/1900
3G (and fake 4G)
HSDPA 850/1900
HSPA+ 850/1900
UMTS 850/1900
WCDMA 850/1900
1x EV-DO CDMA2000
Rogers (including Fido, Petro-Canada Mobility)
2G
GSM 850/1900
GPRS 850/1900
EDGE 850/1900
3G (and fake 4G)
HSDPA 850/1900
HSPA+ 850/1900
UMTS 850/1900
WCDMA 850/1900
I thought at least that with the frequencies like CDMA and GMS matching I could use any provider that works with these frequencies. Obviously I was wrong there Anyway I want to use the phone. Can anyone out there help me and get me the information which provider would work with the phone? I would use anyone as long as I can just use my HD2 again.
Thanks so much for any kind of help.

EU HD2 will work on gsm in Canada but looks like will not match 3G wcdma used in Canada.
I used my EU HD2 in Canada on Rogers for a week & was fine on gsm.
Do check in phone settings to see bands are set to auto or gsm only, if set to wcdma only then will not connect to anything.
Not much you can do on 3G issue as hardware & not changeable, the australian Telstra HD2 & USA T-Mobile Hd2 is more compatible as hardware supports the 850,1900 & 2100 wcdma bands ....

Thanks Mister B
I was with my German sim card also on Rogers. I just did not know if the phone would also be able to handle the local sim card. I will try Petro Canada or Fido. Rogers is a little expensive. Anyway thanks. Gives me hope

Hey all,
I just wanted to give a feedback on my recent experience. I yesterday checked at a Fido shop and I can confirm that it works. I now can use my HD2 again :good::victory::victory::victory::good:
I will get a sim card next weekend and then will see how to update my phone to something more current.
Thanks again for the tip Mister B
