Missing Bootloader - MDA Compact II General

I have upgraded my ROM on a few occasions due to corruption issues etc. This time, unfortunately, I hada power cut halfway through the WWE T-Mobile standard ROM. So now, my Charmer just sits on the T-Mobile Bootscreen showing: IPL 3.08.0001
SPL 3.08.0001
GSM 02.69.21
OS 4.0.0.0
I have been trying for two days to enter bootloader but to no avail. All I can do is the hardreset, but all I am left with each time is the frozen T-Mobile screen with the above numbers. I cannot even get my XP PC to recognise the device. I am guessing that the ROM is horribly corrupted, but is it U/S (Bricked). Any suggestions would be welcome. It is well out of warranty and I live in the wilds of West Wales in the Uk and there is no repair shop within reasonable distance.
Is there a method to rebuild/or even the enter the bootloader so I can re-flash ROM? Is there somebody on here who could do it for me (for a fee of course). I would be most grateful for any help..

Easy Soloution
You can do the SDcard method.
You'd have to take a Working Charmer, connected to a terminal program (such as Mtty.exe)
You'd then execute the command "r2sd all".
This comand backs up EVERYTHING to the inserted SD card (must be 64MB or greater for this to work) (warning: this will also delete whats on the card, as it will be a RAW write).
You'd then stick the card in YOUR Charmer, and attempt to go into bootloader again. You'll then get the magic prompt to press the button to flash from the SDcard.
Problem solved.

Thanks for your reply. I do not have a working charmer and I am not sure if the SD Card slot works any more. Is it true that if I leave the battery out for a few days to let the internal battery run down that will allow me to enter bootloader.? Is SD card installation the only way to go for my Charmer?? Thanks in advance..

If you leave the battery out for 20 minutes, then the internal battery will be drained (until its dead), but it won't fix your issue with the bootloader. It'll only seem like just another hard-reset.

XDA O2 WBL 5.17 with dead GSM impossible to recover

My device: XDA O2, with wallaby boot loader 5.17
Tried to flash RSUv1.15(GPRS_421_ENG_O2) into it. Update froze at either 48% or 53%. Tried it 10 times over, while waiting infinitely but the device just auto-booted itself after each froze. Deleted the autorun files from the startup director on the XDA. After which it did not try the update at bootup anymore. Instead the device is now dead :
On boot it just gives a white screen and everything fails / nothing can be done. The device cannot be connected through USB, and nothing on either SD card of MM card will install.
I tried to flash wallaby-patch-tool.nb2 to fix the key problem with 5.17 bootloader but as GSM fails at the bootloader: it just ignores the disk. I tried the patch tool on a SD card and on two other MM cards it does not work on any of them: as the damn bootloader checks GSM first (and gives GSM ERROR)
Also since the device is trashed it does not apper to load its battery, I assume it must be quite dead soon. (is there any way to load a battery on a software-trashed XDA O2??)
I have another fully working XDA O2 at my disposal. That machine is running older version of CE, GSM and 5.15 Bootloader. I tried flashing the OS from that device to the SD card, succeeded in getting it there - but the broken device will not flash itself from the SD card since it has "wrong key", and the patch tool fails to work because the GSM fails before it even checks any cards in 5.17..
The GSM cannot be copied to the SD card from the working device, because copying the GSM requires connecting something called RS232 and running some program nobody has heard of..
Is there anything I can do? I even tried copying the 5.15 bootloader from the working device to SD, and flashing that to the 5.17 broken device: no success, since it fails the GSM at bootloader startup, and the card has "wrong key" anyways.
How can I recover from this?
When you do reply, please reply in full generously abundant and exquisite detail. I am unable to follow instructions such as "just do this and that" if you do give instructions please be very detailed: tell me where to load the files (paste the links) and preferably go step by step through the process.
I have noticed that some other people have this exact same problem. If you give good enough guidance maybe we can create a help file to address this same problem in the future as well.
Thank you in advance!
A further problem with the other XDA
A further problem emerged with the other XDA:
- now it only boots to bootloader, and refuses to power up properly
pressing the power button does nothing. Soft reseting does nothing. Hard reseting does nothing. The only thing that seems to work is pressing the powerbutton+softreseting at the same time == entering the bootloader mode. There the machine passes all tests and seems to be fully functional. however refuses to power up.
I tought maybe the SIM slot is improperly closed, tried closing it better, and manually pressing the switch inside - doesn't work either.
Also tired inserting, taking out, and reinserting the XDA to the cradle, with either the power button pressed at the same time or not (this seems to work sometimes when the XDA O2 in unresponsive) but that doesn't work either.
What to do? how can the device be powered up?
Still stuck with this same situation
Hi all,
I'm still stuck with this same situation. So far nobody has even tried offering any help to me. What can I do? Do you think I should just give up and toss the damn device to the nearest body of water I can see, or what?
look for "repair.zip" in the forum, for some people this helped.

Tried that. That doesn't work since that repair requires that the device works as far as the today screen - my device dies out well before that. As described above it dies right in the start: just frozes up and displays a white screen with a blue bar in top, and after that does nothing, runs nothing, reacts to nothing, etc..
Any other ideas?

xda1 GSM ERROR- not able to reload from SD

I WAS PERFORMING AN UPGRADE ON XDA1 and got and error and the suggeation was to reboot and that the pgm would recover. Whoever wote these programs must have been in LA LA land when he/she wote them. Now my XDA1 shows only an OS version when it boots and no radio stack. When I now want to reflash with the help of the SD card I do a soft reset power button ritual and get a GSM error and no option to load from the SD. Does anyone know how to get out of this mess? Please give me detailed instructions if yo do
I have a similar problem. i flashed, but it must have failed or been bad versions. i write to the sd but it doesn't boot. i tried the wallaby bootloader but either i scrod the pooch, or it isn't working. if i let it boot, it halts at white screen with top blue strip. if i leave itr go, it reboots after a while and the cycle starts again. i have v5.17 bootloader onboard.
Help!
Since my post I have given up trying to fix the device myself and have sent it to Siemens here in Canada. For a fee of 35$ can they will reflash my phone if that is all that I have screwed up. I have also found out that for the SD card to be recoconized with a new ROM it must be loaded on the card with OSItools. Otherwise it won't. I am using bootloader 5.15

Newbie: cannot install Hard SPL for love nor money help!!!

Before anyone ask's I have read all the posts regarding installing the Hard SPL but still have the same problem.
When I connect through Vista 32 via WMDC it recognizes my device fine, I then follow the steps in the tutorials but as soon as I press the button to update the ROM image it goes into the 3 colour screen and then into the updating ROM progress bar were it sits at 0% for ever.
My WMDC has disconnected at this stage and then I get a screen saying communication error which is obvious as WMDC has disconnected.
Is this a WMDC issue/ Vista or am I missing something
I then have to soft reset and it just re boots into my standard ROM.
Any advice woiuld be greatly appreciated
hello
1) connect your polaris to PC
2) run update utility
3) when you see 3 color screen unplug USB and replug it immediately
4) your SPL flash may start
5) when flash end correctely your polaris reboot
6) Flash any ROM you want
Thanks for the quick reply.
Tried doing exactly as you have stated.
Unplug and reconnect in the 3 colour bar screen, after which it goes into the updating screen and sits at 0% for ages until communication error comes up.
My WMDC has disconnected and does not reconnect.
I'm at my wits end!!
Do it from MicroSD, before format it in FAT 32, after rename the file .nbh in POLAIMG.nbh e copy in your microSD, put microSD in Polaris e put it in bootloader ( photo + softreset ) you will see something like IPL, bootloader, SPLASH1, SPLASH2, gsm & OS, press POWER button and wait, it might be long,
never put off microSD, when it finishes soft reset, in the same way you can flash any ROM, always format microSD before.

I think hard-spl can not be installed with sdcard method!
Why not ??? With Trinity you can do it.
cheers guy's for the feedback ,but not sure about the SD method unless someone can confirm it works for Orbit 2/ Cruise.
Somebody out there must have had the same issue as me regards this....what did you do to resolve.
Cheers

But this is not Trinity...Try it...
I know You can flash polaris if you use jumpspl (this is used by hard-spl flash) or hard-spl (this is used by os and radio flash).
But if you have original spl on you pda, and you want to flash with sd card, you will not use nor jumpspl neither hard-spl.

hi there.
try to hard spl with your sd card not in the device.
go in to bootloader mode (BL mode - by pressing down the Camera button, then using the stylus, press and hold the RESET button at the bottom of the phone and release when tricolor screen appears),
now connect the device to your pc (it should show usb in the white part)
flash what you may... hard spl first, oli's recomended by me.
ItayE,
Did you try the hard-spl flash with sd method? Does it work?
I didn't read it was Vista compliant so I ran it from a windows XP SP2 machine with Active Sync 4.5.
I did mine by taking out the SIM card and the SD Card then resettting and running the HardSPL.
HTH
Leon
Cheers for the advice guys I have managed to do it.
I used the Hard-SPL-V2 first which worked fine then I flashed to one of A.Serg roms, very nice and quick it is too.
However my reception bars are down to 2 from 4 that I previously had, although the reception seems ok.
Sim: O2 UK
Rom: 1.52.ASerg.4 WWE
The radio version I have is: 1.58.25.14
Now this is were I am confused.
Can I flash the radio Rom without affecting the o/s Rom, I have downloaded a couple of radio rom versions but not sure if you do it the same way as I am scared of over writing something.
Also could anybody advise if they are in UK on O2 which version gives best reception.
Any further advice much appreciated.

P4350 quite dead after USPL'ing

Hi,
I tried to USPL my P4350 (SPL & IPL 4.xx.xxxx) in order to update to WM6.1, using Herald-USPL-Beta3. Everything went OK until ROMUpdateUtility kicked in, and gave me an error: FILE IN USE.
So I started the ROMUpdateUtility again, with the screen still blank, and suddenly the P4350 turned off. I'm 100% sure the battery was at least 90% full during USPL'ing, so why it turned off; I have no idea.
Problem is: I can't power up the device anymore. No LED's, even when attaching it to the power adapter.
Any tips on how to fix this, or is it fair to say my device is now really DEAD?
Thanks!
Some suggestions of a Junior Member.
1st. Try a soft reset. Didn't work? Go to Step 2
2nd. Try a hard reset. Didn't work? Go to Step 3
3rd. Pull the battery off. Put it again. Try to turn it on. Didn't work? Go to Step 4
4rd. Wait replies from advanced user. End.
Thank you for replying
However none of the options you mentioned worked out.
I'm stuck waiting for some expert guidance here
Hi, it's been a while, but today I finally made -sure hope so- some progress..
I purchased a HTC Touch HD two weeks ago, from which I plugged in the power adaptor to see what my P4350 would do. (specs are the same btw as the P4350 power adaptor; output 5V, 1A) On this attempt however, the left LED on the front of the device turned RED for about 5 seconds before turning off again. I plugged in the adaptor again, and it lit up RED again. However, the device did not respond to an attempt to power it up.
What does this mean? Is it not dead after all?
Any tips on what to do?
Thanks again.
Wow man, I'm getting somewhere now!
I got the device powered on holding the RESET+POWER+CAMERA and it now hangs on the IPL + SPL screen.
What is very strange is the following:
IPL 1.08.0001
SPL 1.08.0001
as to where these were above 4.xx.xxxx before I did the USPL'ing. I am a 100% sure.. (not so sure anymore now to be honest.. )
The screen displays USB in the left bottom corner, because it is connected to the USB power supply.
I'm afraid to turn it off because it might not turn on again...
Where do I go from here?
Well, I finally got my P4350 to work again
I noticed I was able to start into bootloader mode using CAMERA+RESET, unlike previous attempts to do so. I don't know what caused the device to boot after 6 weeks, but I guess attaching the Touch HD power adapter did the trick.
At first I followed the instructions at topic "Goldcard for Herald", but somehow I wasn't able to make the MicroSD card bootable using my HTC Touch HD for the formatting.
Instead I went to page 5 of the topic and discovered this comment by leptir79, who stated the creation of the Goldcard could easily be done from a DOS-prompt in Windows, with the MicroSD card in the SD-cardreader on a PC or notebook. And this is what did the trick for me:
- I put the SD-card in my notebook cardreader (drive W: ), opened a DOS-prompt, and ran the following command to format the SD-card with the correct priviliges: FORMAT w: /FS:FAT32 /A:4096
- After that I copied heradiag.nbh to the blank MicroSD card to see if my P4350 would boot from the MicroSD card. And it did. From this tool I ran some diagnostics tools to see whether my device was fully functioning, and I got no errors. I noticed that among the diagnostics tools there was a tool to Flash the device with a new ROM
- So I downloaded HTC_P4350_WWE_4.17.405.2_4.1.13.44_02.94.90_Ship.exe, extracted RUU_signed.nbh to the root of my MicroSD card (along with heradiag.nbh), and renamed RUU_signed.nbh to heraimg.nbh.
- I started the P4350 into bootloader mode, booting from the MicroSD card. Heradiag.nbh booted up, and I chose to use the Flash ROM utility that came with heradiag. The device automatically found heraimg.nbh, and started the flashing procedure for my device. After confirming, the flashing started.
After a few minutes my P4350 rebooted, and my device is now running Windows Mobile 6.0. Everything seems to work just fine now.
So, if you don't have a second (working) WM device, but do have an cardreader on your PC or notebook, this really is the best option to create the Goldcard imho.. (even if you do have another WM-phone, really, try this procedure first before installing ActivePerl and all the perl-scripts)
Thanks everyone for all the procedures and help. You all did a great job, but most credits in this case go out to leptir79 who gave me the breakthrough in getting my -left for dead- device to work again.
This is a gold trick thats what i'm waiting for...
I have my heralds bricked since 2 months ago... Yup....really bricked...means cant do bootloader mode or hard reseting on device...
And already sent it to the HTC care center, and they ask for mainboard replacing...which is too expensive for me...400US...later cancelling it...
Searching out this forum, and didn't find a solution to reprogramming OMAP via JTAG...then my research suspended...
Untill I found this...
All I need...just to enter to the bootloader...powering up the brick
Can't wait to try this method @home...ASAP...
For now...just looking for 5V, 1A Charger first....
TIA frummel...

[Q] Help!

Hey guys,
Sorry to be a burden but I'm having a few issues with my hd2, and being a noob I didn't really know where to turn except this forum.
Basically my dad bought the hd2 from the UAE early this year and it all worked fine on stock settings for about 6 months. In the last few months, however, the phone started to lock up, and it got to the point where it wouldn't even boot properly.
In an effort to fix the problem I went with a hard factory restore, however, this seems to have caused more problems as now the phone is stuck in the bootloader.
I've been searching for hours, and have come to the conclusion that I need to update the flash? and then possibly install a new rom on the phone?
My major issue in doing this though, is that I can't seem to connect to activesync while the phone is in the bootloader.
Please help me sort this out.
First of all lets make sure that your trying perform the hard reset correctly.......
You need to hold down both volume buttons whilst the phone is turned off..... Then tap the power button and keep the buttons held down.......
Release them when you see the confirmation screen.........
Powering on while holding only the vol down button will take you to bootloader....
If you need to reflash the device then have a read of this thread here....
If its a "Tmous" HD2 (green and red call/hangup buttons) then you need to read this one
When connecting to the pc in bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen change to "USB".......
Might be worth checking the text on you bootloader screen for any irregular looking characters, there have a few cases of people with corrupt bootloaders, usually these will display odd looking characters at the top. This is quite rare though.
If you want to flash another stock rom then you wont need to worry about HSPL just download the appropriate ROM and follow the instructions on screen.
Start off at the HTC site and input your serial number to see which ROM is suitable for your device.....
If none of that helps then hold out for some advice here from someone with better knowledge of these things.....
Ok well I've just tried to do the hard reset in the way you've described and had no response from the phone. I had to remove the battery from the back to actually power down the thing as nothing else seemed to work. I can't actually seem to start it up again now =S
Thanks for all the info, I'll keep trying to get it started. I'm downloading the stock rom from the htc site. Hopefully I will find a way to install that.
Also, when the bootloader was up, there weren't any odd characters that I could see. It all seemed pretty standard. It had the current rom driver which was 1.42 or something and a few other lines of info.
Thanks for the post.
edit: perhaps the battery is dead?
No problem.
Is it charging when plugged in and turned off?
If so let it charge while turned off for a while and then try to boot........
If you cant get to bootloader and establish a USB connection then you could try flashing the ROM from the SD card.
rename the rom to "LEOIMG.nbh" place it on the root of a freshly formatted (fat32) sd card and turn on the phone holding vol down..

To be honest I have no idea if it is charging whilst turned off =S All I get is the bootloader when it decided to turn on and that gives no indication of power level so I really have no idea. It makes updating a rom pretty scary haha.
So I just attempted to install the default rom from teh htc site, but failed due to the lack of activesync. It was strange though because the updater managed to change the screen on the phone and get to 1%. It then crashed and I had to go through this recovery process.
I will have to try this SD card process I guess. Could you perhaps link me to a more in depth guide to how to do this?
Thanks a lot for your help I really appreciate it.
you should get a red light up near the earpiece to indicate that its charging........
try this video for flashing from sd card......
I am not getting a red light flashing? But it doesn't seem to be running out of charge. I'm still having lots of trouble
It would seem that I need to install this hspl before I do anything, however, I can't install that if I can only access the bootloader screen. Does this mean my phone is bricked?
I want to be able to set up a rom straight from SD, however, I have no idea where to start. That video just seems to send me in a big loop.
Perhaps you could link me to a simple rom that I can attempt to load via sd card?
edit:
I seem to have somehow fluked an install of HSPL 8G XE.
I have no idea how this happened or whether it is good or bad.. but at least something has happened.
Hmmm
installing hspl is covered here
as long as the word "serial" is changing to "USB" on the bootloader screen when you connect to the computer you should be ok.......
You dont need HSPL to flash via sd card but I think that video was directed more towards people installing cooked ROMS from XDA.
Installing a stock rom will automatically overwrite HSPL so unless your planning to flash a custom ROM then installing HSPL is pointless........
You might be better off installing a cooked rom. (Artemis, Dutty's)
They tend to run better than stock, if you get one running then it will be easier to get back to a stock rom (if you want to) than the situation your in now.....
This is from the flashing guide;
Flashing Via MicroSD Card
NOTE (PLEASE READ): If you flash a Stock Rom via microSD Card then it will overwrite your HardSPL with a stock SPL included in the nbh file. This does not apply to custom roms as they do not include an SPL. BE CAREFUL!!
1. Make sure your microSD is Formatted to fat32 (you dont have to delete all files but it is safer if you do)
2. Download your prefered Rom from the LEO Rom Develpoment Page and unzip/unrar it to your PC
3. Goto the Roms Folder and rename the .nbh file to LEOIMG.nbh
4. Copy the LEOIMG.nbh file to the root of your MicroSD Card
5. Plug the MicroSD Card into the phone
6. Reset the device while pressing the volume down button to enter the BootLoader screen, you will first see a tri-color screen with the phone and SPL Information at the top
7. Follow the On Screen instructions to start the update
8. After flash has completed, press the reset button with the stylus to reset the device.
Reckon you could link me to one of those roms? I think we're getting pretty close now.
Your help has been great I can't thank you enough.
Your welcome
You can find Dutty's ROM here
or the Artemis ROM here
Have a quick read and see which one you think you'll prefer, to be honest I think they're both pretty similar to stock but with a lot of the crap taken out....
Just follow the steps in the first link I posted and you should be good to go.
Ok new problems.. Can you believe it.
I seem to have tried everything.
Basically I can install of a sd card, but when it gets to the end of the install and I restart instead of booting into a OS it boots to the tri colour screen, and starts the install process again.
Also, I have attempted to install via usb and have had varying success.
As I have already said, I am able to install hspl, however, when I try to flash I get to varying percentages below 30% before the whole thing freezes.
I now have an error that says Upgrade Rom code error Please Try Again.
Sorry i dont mean to hijack ! but will any of you be kind enough to help me here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=879980
thanks !
Ok so I followed the steps and still to no avail.
I am able to boot using the sd card method, however, the same problem occurs with each rom version. Basically as soon as I reset the device it pretty much switches itself off, then I can't turn it back on, once I finally do turn it on, it restarts the process like it never happened.
The other issue is again the active sync problem.
With most of the the usb connections I am able to connect and get a little way through the install (most I've got is 15%) then it just freezes up and I get the 262 error
Your best bet is to try flashing with a freshly formatted (FAT32) 4gb, class 2 card.
I know, sounds pretty specific right?
You wouldn't think it would matter?
I have tried flashing with 16 gb class 2, failed at the radio step
Tried with a 8 gb class 6, failed at the radio
4 gb, class 2, flashed successfully.
Seems our HD2's are picky about what cards they'll take a ROM from for some reason.
Alright I'll try that, my next issue is which is the stock rom for the phone =S
It was bought in the UAE and I'm currently in Australia.
edit: Also I read somewhere that the constant bootloader screen can be caused by a bent battery pin?
Edit2: I have attempted to do that, however, now the bootloader will accept the card, then just sit on loading...
I'm pretty sure this thing is bricked.

I've heard of bent battery pins being a pretty common problem, causing usually just the phone not to charge properly. I've personally never heard of it causing constant bootloader, but it's definitely worth checking.
It's weird that it's such a common problem, my usb/charging port is broken, so I have to use an external charger. I change my battery on average twice every 24 hrs, and I've never bent a pin
Ok, new info, apparently because the device is for the middle east it does not support stock 3.14 roms. What does this mean for me? Am I bricked.

That's the post I found the info in. All of that info matches up to mine except my original image was 3.142 I think =S
Firstly, your phone is not bricked - a bricked phone is responsive as a brick.
Can we start from the begining?
What does the Bootloader Moder screen say (with and without the USB cable connected)?
What ROM (and if custom ROM, what RADIO) have you flashed and are trying to flash?

Alright from the beginning.
Basically about a month into using the phone in Australia it became very unresponsive to the point where it would not boot at all. We left the phone for a couple of months, however, after seeing a friend rom android I decided maybe it was time to attempt to fix this phone.
Some more info:
When I attempt to do any sort of ROM update there is nothing in the 'current image' part so for example it will say update to Dutty 3.6 but it's updating from nothing, does this mean there's no firmware there?
In the bootloader I have:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MICROP(LED) 0X05
MICROP(TOUCH) 0X40
Without USB cable in I get Serial in the white part down the bottom, with the USB cable in + plugged into computer I get USB.
Just to further clarify. In regards to the ROM I have installed. I simply don't have anything installed. There is a bootloader, no image, no bootup. It boots up to the tri colour, that's it.
For a moment we will forget about going to 3.14 ROM: I don't know if that phone is entitled to an official upgrade to 3.14, if it is locked to a particular network, if it is branded, etc. If it is not entitled to a 3.14 ROM upgrade then you will have to go through GoldCarding, so we will leave it for now.
Make sure that the battery has had a good couple of hours charge in the charger or double that if connected to the computer.
Remove SIM Card and SD Card.
Switch on to Bootloader Mode, then connect to USB.
Download and run HSPL2 - ignore the instruction about connecting to ActiveSync etc, just proceed.
Download and install the HTC 1.66 WWE ROM - again, ignore the instructions, just proceed.
The reason for HSPL is because your phone may be operator locked (not SIM locked) and you aren't entitled to run the 1.66 WWE ROM.
