Video Codecs? - XPERIA X1 General

Ive got some .avi files and stuff that i'd like to put on my phone.
Unfortunalty the X1 does support them so I was wondering if there were any codes to make them run.
I know the Viewty had a Divx codec so was just wondering if the X1 had anything similar

Try TCPMP/Core which include a wide variety of codecs within the player.

Got a link for it?
I can only find .07RC1 or something

Here you go my friend
http://mytreo.net/downloads/the-core-pocket-media-player,930.html

Here's the fix: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2396421

Thanks
Why when I go to download it do I get all the code instead of the .cab downloading lol

Ok not to sound like a nub. But i dont get how you patch/fix it lol
EDIT: nevermind, sorted it. Nice one

Hello Guys!
i've tryed TCPMP and also the Core Player but on both AVI-Files was very slowly. The Sound was Ok, but at the Video Source many frames are dropped. What's wrong?
P.S.: The James Bond Trailer in MP4-File is very beautiful.

Serious TCPMP Video issues on Hermes/TyTN...

Sorry guys, bad news. Sorry if this has already been posted and it has eluded me, but the hermes/TyTN cannot play your Divx/Xvid encoded AVI files in TCPMP!
I've read on some other forums that I am not alone in this area as during TCPMP installation, a pop message makes some mention of the on-board ATI imaging.....whatever. Point is the ATI stuff on the VarioII/TyTN interferes with TCPMP to the point of causing such interference that the interface is 'scrambled' almost like severe 'bad reception' to the point of being totally unuseable. I'm gutted. I've tried most versions of TCPMP includinc 0.71 and 0.72, but to no avail.
I've now tried for the first time other players, like PocketMVP, but no joy.
I was wondering if any TyTN/VarioII/VPA...owners have had a positive experience in this regard?
Specifically with their own Divx or Xvid encoded movie clips or full DVD's converted to such an AVI file.
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. The developers of TCPMP are well aware of this as there are many posts on this topic in their forum but till now no solution.
Has anybody found an alternative player? And for those unfamiliar with this problem, NO Windows Media Player cannot handle Divx/Xvid AVI videos (which IMHO are the best quality video files on a PPC).

Thanks for that mdajax. Do you or anyone else know what the difference is between them?
Just set TCPMP to use Raw FrameBuffer or GDI through options -> video and it plays fine
ok video play but bad quality... and bad sound !!!!
Framebuffer mode outperforms GDI on varioII in TCPMP

When I first read this post, I thought little of it until I came across some stuttering on Video playback under GDI settings.
I decided to run a Benchtest under TCPMP in both modes, and on my VarioII, RawFramebuffer mode outperformed GDI mode by minimum of 50%. Additionally, under 'Media Information' of TCPMP, GDI mode played back the Mpeg1 video file at 18 fps compared to 33 fps in framebuffer mode (no stutters either).
It must be differences between the ROMs or other 3rd party Apps that is causing such a great degree of difference, but for now, I'm sticking to RAWFRAMEBUFFER mode.

looks and sounds great on mine. what kind of video files are you trying to play? what resolution/bitrate? if you're trying to play like an hr hdtv xvid file...then yea...your phone will have a hard time playing it.
i just use the psp or ipod video convertor to convert to 320x240, 768kbps...and it looks & plays beautifully.

The forementioned file was an MPEG 1 file @320x240 from pocketmovies.net, though usually I encode my own vids using DVDx and Divx Codec 6.0 @320x240 @ 400 or 500kbps and all play flawlessly. Presently though I can't test them coz I haven't received my Transflash card yet!
But hey, if it works for you, more power to ya. The other works better for me.
It's starts playing fine. But what happenes when you pause video and then play again? Mine is stuffers like hell, only solution is reload videofile....
Yep same here, works just great with video set to rawframebuffer and audio to anything, but after a puse or skip to later in the video audio stutters and the only resolution to it is reloading the file.
Same problem over here.
Even with BT radio off, I have the same scrambled view when selecting Ati.
Raw frame buffer works for video, but then I still have the audio skipping after pause.

those psp/ipod video convertor programs (videora to be exact) convert it to mpeg4 format, using h.264. i've never tried playing an mpeg1 file on my mda or trion, but you should at least test a converted mp4 video file on your device and see how it plays.
edit: i just ran a benchmark of an alicia keys video...hehe, which is mpeg4, h.264, 768kbps...and the test reported an avg. of 27fps.
right now mine works decently with the imate rom with rawframebuffer i can pause and play it (minor hiccup occurs but then its fine) much better than having to reload it every time.
but for the quality ( and use pause) i prefer use WM encoder....
Guys can yo play back an Mpeg2 stream? Every time I try I get an error saying TCMP unsupported. Although I am usin version 0.66!

It's not supported husain. But WMP10 can play it if the bitrate is not to exessive, but it will most likely be stuttery/jerky. It is after all the DVD format and requires hefty processing power to be smooth. Best bet IMHO is to use an encoder and use Divx or Xvid at whatever bitrate suits your needs. Anything between 500 - 768 kbps will look like DVD quality on a PPC QVGA device @320x240 resolution.

Thanks m8; have you managed to get rtsp working on tytn? I have tried with various degrees of transcoding with VLC on my PC using VOD (RTSP protocol) which works fine on other pc over wifi around the house; although the video streaming client that comes with my MDA vario 2 does not recognise the stream, Has anyone had any sucess playing any RTSP stream? Thanks in advance!

A few questions about multimedia stuff on the 8525 (PPC Windows Mobile 2005)

Hi guys, first post but been a lurker on this wonderful site
What I want to know is what is the maximum bitrate for the MPEG1 codec and WMV (or ASF) ? Prefferably WMv bitrate. Because anything over 1,000 just gives me a slideshow.
Also I've been trying to find the "Voxware Metasound" codec because some WMV files I have use this sound codec, and I want to find a way to play these files because the video plays but not the audio...in the properties under Windows Media Player 10, ironically the audio codec shows up as Voxware Metasound.
Any ideas guys?
Thanks!!!

look up "PocketDivXEncoder_0.3.51_RC11.exe" (9,633,280 bytes)
really easy to use.
Picture:

it basicly re encodes the media to a lower grade while still retaining usable quality. im quite pleased with it. Usually before a long trip, I re-encode 2 to 3 gb of anime for the road. ^_^

Mine only lags with some huge files, say 1.5gb. What sort and what size videos are you trying to watch. I always use xvids my mate dls em and I watch em, no further encoding required unless there is a dolby digital 5.1 soundtrack, then I have to mess about a bit.
I use pocket divx encoder if I need to re-encode a video, it is very good and can be found here: http://www.pocketdivxencoder.net/EN_index.htm

Can't watch Avatar on the HD2

Hi Folks-
I know there are several threads on video encoding, but I think I am asking something new. I am using the retail version of Winx DVD Ripper which does a nice job overcoming encryption from my store bought DVDs so I can rip to my computer and then transfer to my HD2. Problem is I have workable mp4 files on my computer that I can watch after the process, but I am having mixed success watching them on the HD2.
Just recently, I ripped a nice mp4 version of Avatar that played fine on my computer, but when I transferred it to the phone, it would show the circle for the video player for half a second and then go back to my file explorer. This also happened with Black Hawk Down. I've had success with other movies such as Iron Man, etc. Am I running into some form of copy protection? If so, I'm annoyed as these are 100% retail DVDs I have purchased.
Specific settings for Winx include 800x480 resolution, sound to at least 160, using high resolution mode, even safe mode the second time I ripped Avatar to see if that would help.
Any ideas would be most appreciated, thanks!
Try the HTC Video Encoder. I've encoded 1080p .mkv files with no playback issues on my HD2. It's free, so can't hurt to give it a shot.

Its just called video encoding GUI (saying htc implies they made it, when they didn't). But yes, I can highly recommend using it.
Also using tcpmp doesn't allow for full hardware acceleration.

Good to know what player do you recommend?
core player and tcmp player work all the time.. Dix player"sometimes work" but has small keys and audio issues but at least you can adjust sound and timeframe in fullscreen.
I will try the other encoding program. I downloaded pocket divx player and I couldn't figure out how to open up a new file and I tried to follow the directions in the program. Is it possible that I am having a hard time with my mp4 files because I transferred them not via Activesync but by the other option that pops up when you first connect your phone to a computer? Will post in a bit when I try the new encoder.
Edit: Tried the new encoder, but all sorts of error messages when I showed them the contents of my Avatar DVD. I have 33 files on the actual DVD, which ones am I trying to encode?
Don't use the video encoding GUI as it is awfully slow and doesn't even give you a great image quality due to the settings being made suitable for a Touch HD.
Just head over to doom9 and download MeGui. A bit harder to use, but at least you'll be able to encode them in under an hour with great IQ.
Just did an encode of my Avatar Blu-Ray(45Gb) that took a little under an hour and ended up with a 3Gb file with a bitrate of 2453Kbps and max at 10Mbps. Split it into two files of 1500Mb and the HD2 played them like a champ without a stutter in sight.
I also recommend you download eac3to(for audio ripping) and yamb(mp4 splitting).
Will try meGUI, guess people are thinking it has to do with the encoding huh? Even if it works ok on my computer but not HD2?

Yes. Just because it plays on the computer doesn't mean it'll play on the phone. Your computer's hardware is substantially "faster" than the HD2's. Optimizing the video through encoding is usually the answer.

Oof, this program does look confusing. I'm going to go through the help files and try to get a grasp of it all, but if you have some preset settings or a streamlined bit of advice, I'm all for it. So far I'm trying one-click method and I've been able to show it where the .vob files are and create a directory to place the file and working directory. There is a hick-up with something about the chapter titles and it looks like it needs a file but it shows nothing when I explore my DVD drive. The Megui wiki isn't very clear here...though the program looks promising!

A lot of standalone players worldwide need a firmware update to make it work because Avatar BD uses a new encryption scheme called BD+ 5. I recommend u a blu ray ripper named PavTube. I think the Pavtube Blu-Ray Ripper Software is currently the best ripping software and surprisingly it can rip both DVDs & Blu-Ray Discs without the need of having a different Undo-Protection program. I have tried many brands of ripping software with poor results. PavTube Blue-Ray Ripper is a real "Swiss Knife". Download a demo version and you will find it is definitly worth buying.Experience Blu Ray Avatar in the center of your Home Theater System
