[REQ] Idea for Light Sensor - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV Themes and Apps

Hey guys,
I don't know if this is possible, but I kinda like how with the BlackBerries you can put the phone in your pouch and it will shut off and it will turn on when you pull it out.
Well, what if we used this concept with the Touch Pro. My idea is that when you get a text message, your phone turns on in your holster right? What if we made it so that the phone stayed off (kinda like how when you get an email), but then it enabled the light sensor so that when you pull it out of your holster, the screen turns on. Then, once you're done reading the text message and you throw the phone back into your holster and it shuts the screen off.
Am I just fantasizing too much or is this actually possible? Let me know what you guys think?

you can allready turn it off, q2 how will you read a message @ night?

There is something like that, it uses the Gsensor and Light sensor. It is actually a locking app called Pocket Shield. when its locked and u pull it out of your pocket or holster the light sensor detects the light and turns on the screen and unlocks. http://pocketshield.netserver01.com/

Yeah, but the only way it will unlock it out of the pouch is if the screen is on. Anyway to do it in standby mode? I assume if the screen is on it will drain the battery.

You can try TouchLockPro. This automatically unlocks using the light sensor. Just press the Power button to make the screen on, it will default be locked, till you or the light sensor unlocks it.

How to light up the side buttons?

Hi, does anybody know how to light up the side buttons with which you can pick up and kill call? I mean when the HTC is closed with display in. I guess it would be great to have the light on in the night, but I have no idea how to do it. Somebody guessed that the light comes from display, so it only lights up, when the display is on, but that is not true, because I already had it on, while closed (some application did not close). Any help?

Turn off screen after missed calls?

I noticed the screen will stay lit until I unlock it if I have a missed call. This really drains the battery. Is there a way to set the phone so when I have missed calls/messages the screen doesnt stay lit, killing my battery? Thanks!

If you turned off the "puzzle drag" lock screen feature than the light will stay on forever until you unlock the screen. Turning this feature back on will solve this glitch. Samsung really shoulda left the whole Touchwiz sillyness off of this phone.

That's a silly reason to leave it completely off.
I don't ready like the puzzle lock so I have it off. Isn't there a way to fox it with out turning puzzle lock on?

Another annoying issue. The keyboard backlight can't decide whether to be on or off.

The keyboard backlight and the backlight of the capacitive buttons is controlled by the light sensor on the phone. It my living room at the moment. The system can't decide whether the backlight should be on or off. It's really ****ing annoying. It turns on then off again about three times per sentence so far!
Why can't it just be ON when the screen is on and OFF when the screen is off? I don't even have automatic brightness on. The tiny amount of power wasted when your in bright light would be worth it.
I've also seen the keyboard backlight stay off at times when it was quite dim where I was; times when I really could have used it!
I don't understand how this sort of crappy behavior gets through HTC quality assurance testing. Don't they use the phones before just shipping them out?
EDIT: Oh, hey! Problem solved. I put a small piece of black electrical tape over the god damn light sensor. >.<

Lol @ tape. But I cant really say anything about the hk light because I dont use it alot but, there was an app that was for rooted g1 that could controll the backlight of the keyboard. Maybe when the g2 is rooted we will have some better settings or an on off controller

I have that same issue (my touch buttons) go crazy when I use the device, they act like the notification light, and I noticed that about the keyboard too...
The phone has a **** light sensor overall... I can be in a dark room and the phone would be bright as shyt, conversely if I'm near a bright light, the screen doesn't get bright enough.
Hopefully these problems won't exist on my replacement unit.
It's not the sensor, it's the software. Nexus One had all the same problems until CyanogenMod fixed 'em. Boom, working auto setting, working backlight on capacitive buttons.
Stock 2.2.1 AFAIK still has the same issues.
The backlight on my keyboard stopped working the 5th day I had the phone. The light sensor does suck. I was on a call outside and the screen kept coming on. My cheek kept activating buttons on the screen while on a call. Not good. I'm 12 days into my 30 day remorse period. I'm not sure if I'm sending this one back for a replacement or just calling it a day altogether...
30 or 20 days

How did you get 30 days remorse? I was told it's 20 days when buying directly from tmobile website.

Home, Menu, Back, Search lights are not on

The lights for the Home, Menu, back arrow, and search key only come on 40% of the time. Does anyone have information on how to fix this?
I assume its a hardware problem, I wish I had the option to turn mine off.
They only turn on in low light settings. Cover the light sensor and they will come on. There was a glitch so they didn't turn on when charging, but I think it was fixed (?).
The lights are tied to the ambient light sensor. They only come on when you are in a darkened room. Also, they don't come on when the phone is charging (at leasrt mine don't).

Just download the app "LEDs OFF" from the marketplace. It's quite useful and I use it just about every night when the lights are low and I want the device as dim as possible. If you have a problem with the lights flickering, you need to download the latest version of SuperUser... This is of course assuming your on a rooted device. Anyways, just thought I would throw my 2 cents in
My lights don't come on all the time either... Pretty sure its supposed to be that way... They always come on right after un lock and go off about 15 seconds later
Sent from the MATRIX... while plugged into my EVO... using the XDA app... from a galaxy far-far away.......
If you are charging the button lights generally don't come on.

Do you mean "LEDs Hack"? That's what I'm using and it works great when reading ebooks in bed.
I noticed the lights don't always come on on mine and I always wondered why this was.
Now that I think of it I suppose it's only when I'm charging, but it's quite annoying when you're used to hitting the glowing menu or back button!

Heartbeat sensor activates in idle

Hi. I see that the heartbeat sensor lights up with red light whenever something is within ~0.5cm from it, even if the screen is off. It happens when the phone is in my pocket, on the table or if i put my finger near it. Why is that? It dosen't seem to take an actual reading unless i ask s-health to to so...
