3 questions to help me with HTC shift, I plead for your help - Shift General

Dear All
I have 3 important questions
1- I have bought my shift from spain, and I can't use it since its in spanish, so i thought what if I format it all, can I install an english vista on? And how do I do it step by step. Will the Vista Home Premium work on the HTC shift, and after I install the vista premium on it, do I have to get the HTC drivers?
2- Does the shift have GPS, and if yes, which software is available to install on it. Is it possible to install IGO on the windows mobile side, and how do i do that?
3- I noticed that the wireless connection if I am not close to it, like for example i am away from 50 meters, I noticed that streaming media really becomes buggy. What could be the problem, and how can I solve it.
Best wishes

1. You can install a fresh copy of windows vista using an external dvd drive. However, it might be easier to try to change the display language for the already installed edition of Vista. Here is a guide from microsoft on how to change the display language. If you choose to install a fresh copy you can download the HTC drivers from here.
2. The HTC shift has a built in GPS but the drivers for it is not embebbed in SnapVue. Read this thread for info on how to flash a custom ROM.
3. Have you tried using the "High performance" power setting in Vista?

deadnex said most,
the biggest problem with GPS Software is that the SD' Card wasnt enabled yet for the Windows Mobile side, some people used iGo software on it with tiny maps cause u have very few storage space until someone gets the SD-Card working !!
So if you like to use it as a Navi i would prefer to wait or get a Navi solution !

can I ask another question
So is it possible to install Windows Vista home Premium on the HTC, will I encounter any problems if I do with drivers and performance. And do I have to do a full format? If yes does this mean I will lose the recovery partition?

Yes, it is possible to install Vista Home Premium on the Shift. All of the drivers are available from the HTC webpage so this should not cause any problems. You will need to format the primary partition to install Home Premium. The easiest way to do this is to boot from your Vista Home Premium DVD, and when you are about to choose the partition windows will install to - delete it and then add it again. The recovery partition is locked an will not be deleted if you format the primary partition. The performance should be the same with Home Premium.

Cleaning Vista............

Hello my friends my question is that i would like to clean vista with registry cleaners but i was doing it once and then was lost the resolution button the com manager button and etc.... can someone provide me with some executable that after cleaning i can put thaT REGISTRY BACK ?????? Please help me if you can.......
Reboot your HTC Shift
on boot Fn+3 and boot a Recovery Function and Restor A Vista in default style
Hi,
before you do that have a look here:
\program files\htc\control\setup.exe
And I think here you also find the Intel driver to setup the resolution button.
S.
do not touch registry cleaners
yep, as i've told. registry cleaners (all of them) will mess up with the resolution changer and controll center.
Reinstalling the ""\program files\htc\control\setup.exe"" woun't help at all.
The only way will be fn+3

to be honest I dont know about vista yet
been running XP on a PC for 3+ years now without a reinstall or registry cleaner, no problems - have just bought new PC, but before that I used that PC every day for long hours.
you just don't need to put junk on it in the first place. then there is nothing to clean.
I am using TuneUp Utilities 2008 and didn't ever had a problem. I have run it on shift also a couple times and everything still working OK.

What version of windows are you using on your PC? If you are using Windows Mobile Device Center (on Vista or Win7), make sure that in the settings, you still have a check mark on "allow usb connections".
And what if you connect the phone as an external drive? Does windows recognize it?

I have Windows 7, but i also had a HTC Touch pro2 before and that went good.
No succes when i manualy set the phone to harddrive...
I don't even get a popup screen on the phone to select a option...
Can someone please help me to tel me howto upgrade my phone with an other rom version.
I think i have to do a hspl too!!
Thanks all.
If you are not getting the option to choose how the phone should connect, have you checked the settings "usb to pc"? Maybe it is set to "not ask" when the phone is connected. I would check that before flashing a new rom.
I use Dutty's Holy Grail R2 ROM (it's an HD2 style rom for the HD) and I am happy with it. I also installed Cookie Monster's Home Tab which in my opinion is a "must have" as it improves the use of the home tab tremendously.
To install a new ROM, you don't have to use hspl if you don't want. I have always used uspl (newest version is uspl 2.5). You will need to install the old XP drivers on Win7 in order for it to work.
You can find information in the following links:
Using uspl
Tutorial on upgrading to 1.56 ROMs (very important; there you will also find video tutorials that will help you; info is for hspl or uspl)
HTC Drivers for XP - needed if you are flashing using Vista or Win7 (see post 1 and 3)
Dutty's Holy Grail R2 ROM (it's the one I use)
Other ROMs to choose from (HTCpedia.com) or see also ROM development section at XDA
Cookie Monster's Home Tab (great improvement to the home tab. You also need the CHT editor to fully customize things)
I hope that helps.
thx
Yes i changed that setting.. but the same result.
How do i install that uspl with only a memmory card option??
Thx
Hmm, I have never flashed via memory card. I think for that you do have to use hspl. But I am not sure, so maybe someone else can answer that.
Dutty's post in htcpedia.com says:
*Flashing Guide
SAFEST WAY TO FLASH YOUR ROM IS THROUGH STORAGE CARD METHOD:
* Copy BLACIMG.NBH into the root dir of your Storage Card.
* Be sure to have at least 30% of charge.
* Turn off your device by using the Power Button.
* Go to Boot loader mode. Push and hold Vol. Down + press Power button.
* After that your device will have a white screen with text " Press the power button to continue upgrade or Press Volume down button to cancel upgrade".
But, like I said, if you are only using a memory card, I think you have to have first installed hspl on your phone. ???

Confused, T-Mobile UK - HTC HD2 - advice choosing a ROM Required please

Hi Guys,
Got a new htc hd2 from tmobile in the uk, got last years september rom on it and found that it had an old rom on it, needs upgrading and wanting to put a updated rom, but wanted a rom that had all the bells and whistles,
currently it keeps freezin when sending txts an randomly crashes, had a couple of them, an thought it was phone til i realised all software related an needs seriously updating, but thought would go the whole hog then not do it for a while lol
Never done this before and a bit of a noob, have been reading through the stickys, but still abit unsure
Wasnt sure wether i would be able to put windows 7 or android on it, so if need be will stick to just winmo 6.5 but wanted a rom that gave me some decent apps with it, like those power/cooked roms, but didnt know what to go for, what would be best
never installed apps before, apart from through windows marketplace,
So hints tips an a great step by step noobie guide would be great,
Cheers for reading

Rom!! ???
I'm not being rude, but you really need to search forum. There are lots of threads about just what you are needing. WM7 is not available, android, they are working on, no idea when. Give search a try. lots of info,,,,
I did search the forums, i have been searching, hence how i obtained the info,
i know there are a lot of different cooked roms, but nothing that can help me differentiate which to choose from,
tbh ALL I want on the rom is probably like an e-reader and a torch, anything else is a bonus lol,
but i cant seem to locate something that says this is the one that wont cause me any issues, i am tempted just to grab the stock rom off htc, as that should resolve most of the issues with the phone

thats probably your best bet until you are more comfortable with flashing.
Grab the 1.72 and go with customising that.

It will connect to usb while the phone is running, but as soon as it drops to bootloader the usb connection will not get passed back to xp.
you will not get hspl to work in a virtual environment or bootcamp. (or so i hear, i dont have a mac, i just read a lot )
You 'may' get flashing to work from bootcamp, but deff not hspl.
You will need to use a windows machine to instal hspl.

I resisted using a non "stock" ROM for a while, but I eventually got fed up with even the latest version that was released for O2 (1.72).
Yesterday I installed the Atermis v14 ROM, which I have to say stands head and shoulders above the standard release ROMs.
I chose it for two reasons, after looking on the "HTC_Leo/ROMs" page on the wiki attached to the site. First was that it was described as "Combines the latest WM 6.5.5 version with latest Manila 2.5.2012 (Leo 2.11) for HD2.This ROM Family is stable , fast and very close to stock ROM "Philosophy"." Second because it was first on the list
I found it really easy to install, using SSPL; you just put the downloaded ROM image and SSPL exe into a folder, connect your phone via USB with ActiveSync of Device Centre, and run the exe on your PC. There are pretty simple step by step instructions on both the SSPL and Atermis pages.
After installing Atermis I also installed S2U2 via a cab file, which gives me a different un/lock screen; again there's easy instructions, though you do have to play around with the S2U2 config app to get the behaviour as you might want (e.g. background image, time format, caller display). All straight forward though as you install the cab, then it's available via the start menu/app list. I like it because it's more responsive on wake up and allows direct access to messages, etc on unlock.
Unfortunately it seems all the ROM flashing apps are windows based (it's a windows phone after all...), so I doubt you'd have fun trying to flash a ROM with a mac. Probably simpler all round to borrow a friends PC for 10 mins!
If you are going to flash a new rom though, it's definitely worth backing up your contacts and messages, etc. Microsoft myPhone works for me, and comes pre-installed.

Question about TabletPC Patch installation

Hi everybody!
I finally have come to a satisfactory end with the installation of WinXP Home SP3 on my HTC Shift.
Nevertehless, while having the XP features running nomally, I got trouble starting the TabletPC side of the things, i.e.:
1. There is an icon for the on-screen keyboard "Tablet PC Input Panel" in the taskbar (on the r/h side) but it doesn't open-up anything.
2. I also have this "Get going with TabletPC" in Start Menu/Programs, but clicking it doesn't start anything.
3. During Windows start-up or shut-down I can see the on-screen keyboard for several seconds.
I wonder if this is a due to a faulty install of the TabletPC patch or something else that I did wrong. I remember that after installing the patch I had a special welcome screen of the TabletPC offering 2 options to follow - one was "Get going with TabletPC" and another one I can't remeber the name of. Anyway, I did not chose any option, I just closed that screen and went ahead with the installation of the drivers. So far I did not find a way to start that welcome screen again.
In MyComputer / Properties / General I can read MS Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005.
The installation sequence was XP Home - Patch Tablet PC - Drivers - Windows updates - I guess that this is the correct way.
Running the patch again after the drivers and updates, on Step 1 I got the message that the program cannot write to all the registries as some might be busy with other programs. Running Step2 doesn't change anything.
BTW: what is Step 3 for? It was not mentioned in the HowTo installation guide to be run (only Steps 1 and 2), so I did not touch it.
As this is the first time I see TabletPC at work, I kindly ask for good advise from the more experienced people on what to do further to make the TabletPC side work.
Here are also a few questions more:
a) Does the TabletPC Patch work OK with WinXP Home SP3 or does it require WinXP Professional? (I installed Home thinking that it is smaller and lighter)
b) Where to look in the installed files on c:\ and what to look for in order to make sure that the TabletPC files are there
c) How can I bring back that welcome TabletPC screen to play with it
Thank's very much for any usefull idea!
Hi!
It looks that there are very few people left on this forum still using Win XP on their Shift and also reading my thread....
To make the above raised topic more simple let me rephrase one question for the start:
Are there any members having on their HTC Shift the Tablet PC patch installed based on Win XP Home and NOT on XP Professional? Does the Tablet PC work all right with XP Home?
I certainly would much appreciate any confirmation or denial. Thank you.
Size of the TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe file?
Hi everybody!
Please, I need somebody to confirm me that the correct size of the TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2.exe file is 154734723B in Windows Commander, shown also in Windows Explorer as 151109kB. I need to know if I got the correct file, if not then that would explain my above mentioned problems.

Hi axelTP2 !
Since i ordered this days an used Shift (hope it will arrive tomorrow) im thinking of upgrading my Shift with XP or Win7 (I hate Vista)
So i looked a little around and find this at Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Tablet_PC_Edition#Tablet_PC_Edition
"Windows XP Tablet PC Edition is based on Windows XP Professional and includes all the software features provided in it"
So i think your problem is related to the (lighter) version of XP Home...
OK im not sure what i should use XP Pro as an lightweight OS or Win7 for full further support maybe give Vista a try for a few days

Hi tokl,
Thank you for answering.
No, my problem is not related to the use of XP Home. I have tried XP Prof with the same negative result. I think that the problem is related to a bad pack TabletPC_PatchXPproSP2 that I have downloaded from the only source that I've found.
So I keep digging for a solution on this topic.

This is probably more work than just a simple file patch, but since this is a technical site by nature, I don't think it's too much to put this suggestion here, which is a tutorial for you to patch your XP youself to make it w/ full Tablet functionality, same as real Tablet Edition:

[Q] Need Help Upgrade Rom

Hi to all.
I need a help from you.
I have my HTC Shift and I need to make it works as phone and Gps.
I made an upgrade of S.O. from VISTA to Windows 7 Starter Edition
question are:
1. Can I upgrade a Rom Cooked with phone and Gps on it also now that I made first upgrade to Windows 7 Or I must get it back to Windows Vista to do this.
2. I'm Italian, can I wait for any Italian version Rom or it's just the same
3. I liberated my HTC (Modaco...) but when I use the usbtool I cannot attach to Vista, this is because I put first Windows 7?
4. Which is more suitable for me which ROM COOKED you suggest me to flash and for flash I must use utility downloaded from HTC : htcflash.exe ?
5. What is HardSPL, Do I need this for flashing a cooked rom?
Many many thanks for any possible answer to me.
I need to use it as a navigator with Garmin so I need to have GPS works and Phone also.

Hi sullivan2002!
Just trying to answer you questions as good as I can.
1. I guess so (I use XP), but you have to make sure by reading the appropriate threads. I think you have to leave the wifi and BT connections ON before abandoning Vista, but I also recall that there is a workaround that in case you did not do it.
2. It is up to you, but I think that if there is no Italian ROM version by now there are very little chances to have any from now on. There is no further development on this forum, the developers are just not interested in Shift any more. But I think that there is the original Italian ROM somewhere here, if that's enough for you.
3. I think so, but I have no experience with Win7. Did you install the Shift Control Center in Win7?
4. I use i00 which keeps the appearance of the initial HTC snapview screen and also is using reduced resources. But you might want to try several ROMs, once HardSPL is it fairly easy to replace the ROMs. I also enjoyed Thaihugo's Shift custom ROM "age of reason" and "age of beauty", which are very good. But there are also other very good ROMs that I didn't try. Anyway, look for the appropriate radio rom to match the selected coocked rom.
- Are you aware that there is no solution to use the phone with the headphones, but only with the speaker?
- Are you also aware that you can use the GPS only in a mixed way, the GPS module from the WinMobile side with the programs and maps installed on the Win7 side? This is because there is no access from the WinMobile side to the SD card to host the maps.
- Are you aware that there is no access from the WinMobile side to wifi or BT?
5. Definitely you have to use HardSPL. I did it before leaving Vista, but I am not sure it is compulsory to do it under Vista. But you have to do it, otherwise there are very good chances to brick the Shift.
Here are some hints, but you'll have to do some good reading on this forum:
How to flash ROM
(=copy/paste selections from this forum, not my merit)
"First of all you have to:
• liberate the Shift
• HardSPL the system.
Once you HardSPL this, then you have to
• download CustomRUU (CustomRUU.exe utility) from this Shift forum.
• Run CustomRUU as admin on Vista to load nbh file.
Make sure this RUU_Signed.nbh is in the same folder where CustomRUU.exe.
For beginers: first install HardSPL (read forum for the proper link) then the radio, then the rom.
To install radio or rom, use the main program and run as administrator
- for radio, it is "romupdateutility.exe"
- for rom, it's customruu.exe
The 1.58 radio was the original radio for the european shifts. It will make a hissing sound problem on a rom that was made for the 1.27 radios. "
Please do the appropriate readings of the forum, your Shift is at stake here.
Good luck!

Hi
first of all thanks for answering me.
I would like to ask you
You said
Are you aware that there is no solution to use the phone with the headphones, but only with the speaker?
but ONLY PHONE or also Music, MP3, Films... Cause I would like to bring with me in my car and sometimes use the JACK PLUG to use with my car amplifier in order to hear music mp3... from that.
For me is just enough to install GARMIN or iGO 8 on windows 7 and run them. So maps are on hd. But I Can't understand why if I unlock Snapview... and I make work SD, I Can't use SD for putting maps and make Windows Mobile recognize it.
I understood I have to go back to VISTA and to to all I made for unlocking and after to reinstall Windows 7 starter edition (is more light and fast and I can sell it, htc better when I will not use it more in the future...)
for HardSPL sincerly I didn't understand how to use it. I thought after unlock (modaco... usbtool...) I could put exe file from htc to flash rom and use cooked rom i00 instead of htc new firmware but maybe I have to do somthing with HardSPL.
As I understood from you I can use Winmobile only for sms email and phone (if will works) and all things do better from Windows side.... gps....maps... music.... films...
Ok thanks dear friend. I see you are in Bucharest. I went in Bucharest some years ago. Am fost la Bucuresti in trecut si am vezut tot tara ta.

Only phone, there were long debates and high hopes on the forum a few years ago in the time of the Shift Project.
About Music, MP3, Films... I never tried them on the wm side, I guess there is no problem with using the headphones or an external amplifier. BUT there is a reason stopping you to use large files because the SD card does not work on wm side, therefore you cannot access your files.

The HTC Shift is an unfinished HTC job/crippled product on the winmob side, so it doesn't work with wifi, BT or SD card, only with the 3G modem. You can also sync wm via internal usb with the w7 side.
USB and Ethernet are accessible from outside only to the w7 part and not at all to the wm part.

Not necessarily, maybe you are lucky. Try first (re)installing the Shift Control Center (shagctrl) on the W7 part. Then start it from top-right button and see if you have access to wifi, BT, 3G, etc.

You have to HardSPL first before using a coocked rom, otherwise you will brick your Shift wm. You cannot just drop a new rom, you have to enter the bootloader mode first with HardSPL.
With "modaco" you are just liberating your Shift, i.e. unblocking the SnapVue and turning it into the true Windows Mobile 6.0 to allow cab installs. It was said that HTC has chosen this solution (SnapView) to avoid paying the WM license, but I would say also to hide the crippled functionality of the hardware. Be aware of the licence issue if you open the Windows Mobile 6.0, please do some more reading.
If you decide to go for a coocked rom, you have to enter and prepare the bootloader mode, which is initiated with ecshift.exe from W7 without WM running at all. I don't remember exactly from one year ago, but I think that hard-resetting the winmob side and reconnecting the two operating systems via usb are necessary steps preceeding HardSPL. SPL probably stands for "System Program Loader". To HardSPL you have to install the EnableRapi.cab file on winmob side and run ShiftHardSPLFinal.exe on Vista side, which will put the special Romupdateutility (RUU). To flash ROMs after you installed HardSPL you can use the original RUU or CustomRUU.
It is difficult to explain in further details, I am not an expert, but look on this forum for the thread called "Step by step guide to liberate > hard spl > flash Rom" and follow carefully all the instructions there. You have to do a lot of reading, pay good attention to the instructions and hints given by the seniors on this forum. If you have no experience then this is no half an hour job, including the readings you have to spent many hours for being successful in using a coocked rom. But it pays off.

As I understood from you I can use Winmobile only for sms email and phone (if will works) and all things do better from Windows side.... gps....maps... music.... films....

Yes, but for GPS you have to go in a mixed way because of the reduced RAM of wm and of the SD card issues: use the built-in GPS antenna and receiver in the winmob side and install the program and the maps on W7 side; the two sides communicate through the internal usb bus, you have to trigger this connection with USB Tool. Similar for synchronizing the two parts.
GPS is working only with some coocked roms.

Nice to hear that, you are doing excellent in Romanian, congratulations. I hope that you enjoyed the country and the people. Was it as tourist or was it for business?
All the best!
HI my friend
At first for Tourist 1998.. and then business but only for 1 year.
I enjoyed always I came in your country, Romania is a very green and has a beautiful nature and countryside and people were more friendly than here in Italy. But for people, italian people is hard to understand this, due of bad facts and news from some who did mistakes here (more are zigans here who make troubles and they are similated to romanian). Of course here there are a lot of romanians and no all could have a suitable job cause also for crisis that hit our country. I went last year in Cluj for a week and also I took a car a white Dacia like the police car and I made about 1000km to go to Timisoara and return to cluj cause I pay about nothing for airplane.

Not necessarily, maybe you are lucky. Try first (re)installing the Shift Control Center (shagctrl) on the W7 part. Then start it from top-right button and see if you have access to wifi, BT, 3G, etc.
I can see shift Control Center (shagctrl) from Windows 7 side but what I can do? Why I'm lucky if I could see Shagctrl open? I can't still open SD card from WM also when I click on USBTOOL... Maybe I need to do this in order to put here in my SD, HardSpl, and New i00 rom to be cooked or no? is another way to flash it? Can I connect via Activesync and do that?
Ok I will look on the forum Step by step guide to liberate and try to do it today, but first I have to put on my WM a software called pimbackup.... and SMSexport in order to backup all my sms calls...
Thank
Sullivan

Hi Sullivan!
Nice to hear about your travels in Romania. Yes, the lanscape in beautiful and most of the people are very friendly. There are good Romanians and bad Romanians, just like worldwide there are good people and bad people.
But not many of the other people make the distinction or are willing to make it.
This is part of the show of this world......

No, you are lucky if, by opening the ShagControl, you can then activate wifi and BT. If not, try reinstalling the ShagControl, it shouldn't take long. If not, you have to look here on the forum for a work-around before going back to Vista.
Btw, did you erase completely the Vista recovery partition or is it still there and you can put Vista back in 10 minutes with the F3 thing?
If you have no other choice then going back to Vista, I suggest to make a back-up image of the W7 OS that you can restore later, it will save you a lot of time.
Regarding the W7 correct installation, I suggest to read the posts of RSargeant, they are very good and he speaks also about the communication part, if I recall correctly.

That's correct. You did not get my message: you cannot open the SD card from the WinMob at all. Not even with a coocked rom.
This is a still open challenge on this forum. It appears theoretically possible, but nobody managed to do it, it is about both hardware and software (drivers and not only) changes.

Good luck!
OK
Hi my friend.
Ok yesterday I made some changes to my HTC SHIFT X9500
I put hardspl, it was not so easy cause I made it 3 times, always system said me something like: I cannot open port.... and didn't want to start but at the end after 2 times and after I reset my device...it did fortunately.
I could put a cooked rom: i00
sincerly I'm not so satisfied 100% cause resolution...and other things but sure better from the previous
I wanted to put the 6.5 Rome for htc shift from CLIO 28/3/2010 but I cant download it:
http://romeos.monx.biz/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=56&Itemid=93
it's very nice but nothing to do, link is out, maybe I have to pay something to the author to download it.
Now I have inside i00 ROM Cooked but If I want to put another ROM Cooked or the original Italian Rom I have to put again HARDSPL or not? I used one time hardspl is it enough?
AFTER I upgrade Windows Visto to Windows 7 Starter Edition
I would like to ask you this:
After I upgrade to Windows 7 and I go to WM side, I cannot Attach it !!!
Attach to Vista and when I go to Windows 7 side I cannot see Pocket PC
How I can do? Is it possible or I have to remain with Vista? Oh Damn !
MY objective is to put GARMIN PC to my HTC SHIFT and use it as navigation and Mp3 device connected to my Car Radio Amplifier.

Yes, once is enough, but only until loading again an original rom (I think)! May be we get also someone else on this forum to confirm it (that after loading the original rom is necessary to HardSPL again).

Hey, you're not stuck with Vista. Did you follow the recommended threads to install Win7? Watch carefully the drivers. Ah, I think you have to do the installation of Win7 in Vista compatibility mode and as administrator. Can't tell you more, I use XP, remember?

You'll manage that, cannot be that difficult! Once the usb connection done, there should be no further problem.
Good luck!
ok
thanks
I understood about hardspl, I think so to put again if I want to put an original rom and after a cooked one.
For the rest. Now All is ok, also USBTOOL.. works I installed GPSBLUE... and GPSGATE in WM side and W7 side. In WM side I output on Activesync and in W7 side Input on Activesync.. but GARMIN Doesn't reconize GPS.
Ok about the drivers for W7, all went well about installing in Vista Compatibility mode and Administrator mode.
I have installed GARMIN 5...XXX.30 and can see only Bluetooth GPS or USB GPS, I think I must download somewhere a version like 5....xxx.70, I heard somewhere that was written that only this version can reconize GPS from Activesync or TCP/IP

Hi Sullivan2002,
After checking with someone I know, on his HTC Shift there is the following software installed:
- On the WinMob side - PPC GPS Router 2.0.0.0 (HTC 2005) to enable the GPS port and HTC GPS Tool v1.2.1.26 to do the reception.
- On the W7 side there are Franson GPS Gate 2.6, Garmin Mobile PC v 5.00.70g and GMap Catcher.
Unfortunately I can't tell you more, I'm not using Shift with GPS. Maybe in the future.
Anyway, do a search on this forum, I recall there was a thread on Gramin.
Good luck!
ok thanks a lot
I will try
